"pissing of the stove to put it out" refers to her being raised to do things, even odd gross stuff, by her family. Alluding to her being trained to not think gross things with her body is wrong. It desensitized her to sexual abuse from her brother. Then, an older, non related man starts abusing her. Her brother is so mentally messed up that he hasn't figured out she's being r@ped by another man, thus the line "If he wakes up he'll show you what im talking about". Even though the abuse from her brother is wrong, it's the only hope she has for being protected from the other man. Her brother, as gross as it is, is her safety net. He groomed her to only trust him.
There's a couple of theories about the brother in Inbred. The first is that the brother is a protector and doesn't know about the abuse (which is spelled out for us,) the 2nd is that he is the abuser like suspected in the video, and the 3rd is that he's actually dead and the protagonist is an unreliable narrator, inspired by the lyric "If he wakes up." He could be dead and she's desperately waiting for him to wake up because he was her only protector. I like how it can be interpreted in different ways.
Hell yeah! Been waiting for this one for ages ❤ Psyched to hear that God’s Country is your fave too. First time I heard it I was FLOORED. Out of body experience I swear.
God's country is top 5 Ethel and that's saying a lot. It deserves more love! Thanks so much for waiting for this! Like I mentioned in the video, PD was just so devastatingly beautiful, I needed some time before going down that road again haha. This EP did not disappoint! -Ryan
Can't believe you missed the best, live version, call and reponse lyrics in Crush - "And piss him off 'til he hates me - yeah right - he......" Apart from that I love how both of you react to Ethel. I heard her first at her London support slot with boygenious and have listened to little else since!
Y'all should check out natural born losers, heart shaped bed and married in mount airy by Nicole Dollanganger. She's a friend of Ethel and one of Ethels biggest inspos aside from Florence + the machine. The line "don't sink in me with your dog teeth" is a reference to Nicole's song on her first album, dog teeth.
I'm so glad you guys are enjoying Ethel Cain. Since you enjoyed God's Country so much, I highly reccommend you check out her original demo for it called South Alabama!
@@WaveReact it was just so unfortunate because that line is so devastating and important to the story. "Does your baby know her daddy's a r@pist" literally explains what y'all were trying to figure out about who was abusing her :(
INBRED ALBUM YESSSSSS another valid reaction wow love these reaction videos so much! keep it going and have a good one you guys! (ps. ryan you look good with this shirt haha)
Can’t wait for you guys to react to Golden Age as well

Good insight! Thanks 😊
@@WaveReact of course!
If you look at the genius page Ethel has actually explained the lyrics to “Inbred”!!

Hayden's music saved my life fr
You're spot on with the true detective vibes, that didn't even occur to me until you said it but it's so true for the whole EP

Omg!!!! I'm living for it
Two-Headed Mother sounds like the guitar tone from the Cure.
Oh nice! Good ear 😊
23:50 noooo y'all talked over the most important lineeeee :(
Sorry! We really try not to talk too much over music and I hate that this occurred.
@@WaveReact its okay man, sorry for over reacting
you guys talking during the second verse of inbred annoys me a little bit but whatever it was a good reaction
sorry! we try not to have full on convos during the songs
literally I was so annoyed 😭 like pause the song and talk at least
