no idea if anyone has mentioned this-look up the ptolemaea acapella. after that STOP, ethel KEEPS screaming. during the verses at the end, you can hear her _gasping for air, gagging, and then her death rattle._ absolutely insane piece of work
the worst bit is that you can hear her death rattle in the original song if you listen enough. it’s faint, but distinct and horrifying. it’s like no one wants us to hear her final moments.
As a survivor of dv the this is so rawly perfect of running and the scream! That scream is a scream I think a woman knows. Knowing the story of Ethel Cain but when o first heard this, that scream isn’t fear of death but fear what something worse than dead for a woman. I hope that listen to the 2 instruments and Strangers
Ethel Cain is one of my most streamed artist if not the top one. This song isn't a song that I would just listen to casually 😭 I used to but not anymore. It's so dark and depressing if you know the context. Also reminding yall that Ethel wants to make a movie out of this one day since yall were talking about movies in the beginning.
Since y’all mentioned Deftones, Ethel Cain is inspired by Chelsea Wolfe (who did a song with Chino called “Shadows & Light”). If you enjoy this, Chelsea is a good next step (well, some songs). But the dark, visceral nature of this particular song is FULLY Lingua Ignota.
I reaaally hope that Ethel will bring this Ignota vibe in her next project! The new song she released (Punish) makes me think she’ll experiment a lot more with this dark sound!
Cain has the potential to really carve out her own spot in the industry. There's not really anybody who can compete with her. She's got some seriously raw shit.
re: having more songs in the queue: if "Hard Times" is one of the songs in the queue, PLEASE review trigger warnings for it before listening - for your own good. I know y'all have daughters - you're NOT gonna like how that one makes you feel (I don't mean in a "pulls at your heartstrings" way - I mean in a "make you angry/disgusted and want to throw up afterwards" way) Also I know you've heard it a bunch already, but I beg you to look up the storyline of the whole album on Genius if you haven't already. Especially for this song, and before listening to "Sun Bleached Flies," "Strangers," and "Gibson Girl". The meanings behind this/those ones are so important. This isn't just a horror song for the sake of being scary - it's the distillation of female fear.
This album is one of my faves, and if this had been the only Ethel Cain song y'all reacted to I would have been so annoyed, but having seen your other reactions and having seen this reaction, (and specifically how much y'all appreciated the song along with having worthwhile commentary,) I did enjoy this reaction. *If "August Underground" & "Televangelism" are requested please react to them together, (they are like the part two and three to this song's part one.)
My all time favorite review! Holy crap you guys killed this one! You did it! You win! The way you guys reviewed this one blew me away! Speaking of blowing me away.... That little bald one. He has a way... With words.
You should definitely listen along with the lyrics in front of you with Hayden. Her singing style can be quite muffled at times and it’s important to know what she’s saying. Ptolemaea is definitely one of those songs I’d recommend listening to with the lyrics in front of you.
Are yall looking at the lyrics while yall listen? It makes it way more creepy when you know what the voice is saying. Shes kinda hard to understand anyways but her musoc def conveys what shes saying
Wish you guys would read the concept of the album before reacting! Every song is a chapter in the story of Ethel Cain - it definitely makes listening to the songs better.
the themes of religious trauma are really intense and as a girl who grew up southern baptist it strikes such anxiety and a deep sense of terror that i cannot describe
omgggg, not gonna spoil anything, but what one of you read was the prayer of the daughters of cain. Ethel invented it ofc, but its related to the secret story beneath Preachers Daughter.
All of the other Ethel Cain songs that are submitted are so different from each other 😭 the closest to each other might be Strangers and Sun Bleached Flies but not really

ethel's face appearing in the back actually scared me LMAO
As a rape and attempted murder survivor, this song speaks to me on a primal level

YES THANK YOU!! Your Ethel reactions make my day. This is a great one but definitely hard to swallow without context or lyrics lol.

sadly she said it’s not a female rage song 🥲

the fact that she's a trans woman makes it even better. it's such a different perspective of the experiences of being a woman. she is a genius.
hayden herself literally a piece of art, her music is SO good

Amazing reaction to this incredible, (but creepy) song! You guys rock 🤘🏼
Not me enjoying this song and actually adding it to my playlist 😂
“Longtime viewer of the live stream” currently late to the live stream so I can watch this because I missed it this morning
Worth it I’m sitting here giggling

To me the “blessed be the daughters of cain” speech is ‘Death’ as a person
can't wait for you to react to inbred by ethel cain
Looking forward to you reacting to her new album, "Pervert". Maybe focus on the YT releases...

From what I can tell, the ending is Death talking to Ethel as she nears her end.
