u don't even understand guys.. this was a cultural reset. influenced almost every pop girlie who's in the game, taylor, billie, lorde, olivia, charli, chappel, everyoneeee. the songs r meant to b long and tell a whole storyyy. never complain ab the length of OFF TO THE RACES??? hello??? Lana created her own genre bc she mixes genres (hip hop, jazz, orchestral, pop, indie, etc.) together, all while being vulnerable and honest speaking ab her lived experiences. she doesn't make radio music, she makes music she likes and she doesn't care ab losing fans if they don't like it. which is what makes her so genuine and interesting. truly timeless album, just like ultraviolence which i hope u listen to NEXTTT!!
It's really sad how the new generation are so okay with songs being 2 minutes long. Full length albums with long songs and full storytelling is an art form that is lost nowadays
Lana had a very rough teens hence the “at 16” lines. And the carmen story about alcoholism and drugs is about her. Definitely check out more of Lana. She isn’t a singer. She’s a poet. So yes the stuff she did at 16 sounds crazy bad but knowing Lana and being there since 2011 it’s very personal and goes way deeper than drinking with the boss.
Carmen is telling a story about a young prostitute girl who uses alcohol and drugs to escape her reality, who is also a “famous” girl who sings. I think it’s a fictional story based off of things Lana has witnessed or went through in her life and the entertainment industry in general. I didn’t really like this song when I first listened to it in 2012 because the song is really story based. You have to put the production to the side for a while and really interpret what she’s saying. It’s one of my favorite songs now because I think it speaks on women in the entertainment industry. Lana is a poet. Like literally wrote poetry before she decided to sing. At the beginning of her career she always said “im not a singer because im a poet in my heart”. I think some of her more eerie deep stuff really shows her talent aside from musicality she tells stories. Lolita is another one of her songs that she talks about the movie “Lolita”. It’s creepy and gross. Dirty. But again one of my favorite works by her, not because of the story of “Lolita” but the way she interprets things and can take such a dark story and turn it into something musical. A lot of people don’t like Lolita because like I said the story is … really disgusting if you understand what the context is but again the story based work of hers are some of my favorites because it’s shows her poetry background fr.
They kept talking about the songs being long and I knew as soon as they heard Video Games they would get the vibes because that song is like 4 mins long 😂
This is why tik tok era minds cant and will never understand music from previous years. You guys looked uninterested and detached from the music, and for "music reactors" thats crrrraaazy. Such a waste of an hour.
19:25 A$AP has 2 songs with her as well as being in her "national anthem" music video and they have an AMAZING unreleased song called "ridin'" that was recorded around 2012! He was on it!
I remember hearing this album for the first time back in 2012 and I was mesmerized with the sound and aesthetic. I would get high and jam out in my car.. also a senior in high school..What a time.
One of my all time favourite albums. I've got the Paradise edition which has one of her best songs, Ride. You need to watch the video to understand, it's a mini movie ❤💔❤
I love buying records but only for artists that really show their creativity and have albums that are worth listening to all the way through….since listening to Lana more and more she’s DEFINITELY on my list of people that I wanna buy records from now 😫🙌 it took me a while to enjoy her vocals and production styles but now I can’t get enough 😍
I’m so happy you guys did this album, it changed the landscape on what a pop song can be, she deserves her flowers and she’s yet to get them. I’d love if you guys did the paradise edition :,)
This album was a huge cultural moment, it basically defined the early tumblr days and shaped so many teenage girls' music taste! This album is relatable to women especially. Lana had a very hard, difficult early life and the songwriting speaks for itself while painting that picture pretty clearly. Her later albums also delve deep into her life and personal moments. Born To Die was a cultural reset and Lana was one of the queens of tumblr. She followed me on tumblr and I'll never forget how kind and sweet she was to me when I was going through a difficult time. 💜
Born to Die, Norman F*cking Rockwell, and Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd are some of my favorite albums EVER! You should def react to more lana, she does not disappoint
Boys you really need to enjoy loong songs if you really gonna heard Lana she is not a singer but a poet and always make music so you can conect with whatever she is describing to you if you really pay attention you will get it and enjoy the song better
I love lana and her music. But the cinematography in her VIDEOS are insannnnnnnnneeeeely beautiful. They tell each story so well. If you guys ever wanted to watch a few of those I think you'd enjoy them.
When I say this album was a MOMENT… Bay-bee… this shit had me in a chokehold. No skips. I was STUCK. I wish I could go back and hear it for the first time all over again.
My top 5 from this incredible, amazing, mind blowing, spectacular, never been done before albums are: Born to Die, Blue Jeans, Off to the Races, Summertime Sadness & National Anthem
I learned a new term today: "baroque pop" a fusion of rock/pop and classical. This record is also described as trip hop. I get some vibes of electro swing in vocals of some of the songs. Definitely folk and alt rock, too. Basically a refusal to be boxed into a genre.
unsurprised but still disappointed they didn't understand the relevance of Carmen. As someone who was once a 17yr old girl who was also an addict and trouble, couldn't relate more to this song at the time... Just pulls at your heart a certain way
Ive been patiently waiting for this !! It's about dang time, gentlemen ! 😅 You gotta also react to Paradise AND Tropico !!! You must you must you must !!! And for me, Dark Paradise and the concepts of her song Bel Air, and The Blackest Day, are all so therapeutic for me, having lost my boyfriend back in 2011. It was classified as suicide, but his sister and i both know it was murder. Lana's music has gotten me through situations that i didn't think were possible to survive. Forever indebted to Lana's artistry and her genius 💙💙💙
You guys should do honeymoon or ultraviolence! A lot of people like those albums the most supposedly! (My favorite albums from her are probably honeymoon and the one you just did, born to die!)
Late to the party but I loved the honest reactions. One thing about Lana, she's never not real. Would you be open to listening to her other album Ultraviolence?
my top lana songs are 1. without you 2.brooklyn baby 3. sad girl 4. million dollar man 5. west coast 6. pretty when you cry 7. love 8. black beauty 9. young and beautiful without you is my favorite lana song but the rest isn't in order

doing the lords work 🙏🙏
thank you❤.
🎉 gracias
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
They're not ready for Venice Bitch and A&W, these songs aren't even long.
❤❤❤
Seriously like are we really that far off where an average timed song is "too long" 😂😂
They would lose their minds over the ending of AW and all of peppers, taco truck x VB, summer bummer, and groupie love
😂
Tumblr era in 2012/13/14 couldn't get enough of Lana. she was IT. this album still hits and was so ahead of its time. glad you're reacting!
if your attention span is not longer than a ig story don't do lana

“Some of the things are very specific to her” it’s literally called this is what makes us girls, what would you know about that
😂😂😂
I dont think I ever realized how long some of the songs were, they just put you in a trance haha

fr omg lol
i also feel like now in days, people don’t make real songs. some artists can’t even make the 2:30s mark.
@@zlongleatiktok really fucked up the industry dude😭 i miss 4+ minutes songs being the usual.. thats real music for me

Craziest part is when this album first came out everybody said it was a flop. Lana the genius you are🙌🏽
"everybody" was still stuck in 2010 gaga crazy era LOL.
Lana is known for long songs just enjoy and actually appreciate the music
COOKED attention spans bro
It's really sad how the new generation are so okay with songs being 2 minutes long. Full length albums with long songs and full storytelling is an art form that is lost nowadays

EXACTLY OMG
They should revisit with the visuals.

well carmen is still FAR from her best work..next
