The part where she says "dark and lonely, I need somebody to hold me" the scene just breaks me. Her eyes really show the sadness in that scene and it's just that it brings lot of tears when she looks at the camera
That epilogue is one of the most gorgeous things I ever heard in music. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the gunshot sounds as she is saying "He was torn"...
Revisiting the different eras of her after Ocean really makes me see how she experiences the duel between her idea of the United States, the American dream, and the idealization of that life reflected in the media she grew up with, and how much it helped me with it feeling that grief for myself, not for the United States in my case, but for the romanticized ideas we grew up with
I definitely hear a lot of the commentary on wealth in this song as being a bit satirical. Like “money is the reason we exist / everybody knows it, it’s a fact” is kind of campy/comedic to me, I feel like she’s falling into the characterization that romanticizes these things, is chasing the “American Dream” but really there’s so much suffering in the things being chased, such as her singing about “drinking and driving / overdose and dying” off our need/want to chase these grand things and thrills. I feel like it’s a piece that brings the Born to Die era together in looking at the story she is really telling behind the things she is singing and writing about. You did recognize this through the video but I wanted to say! There’s lots of complex reasons I imagine behind the decisions and the perspective of one watching/listening can vary so much.
I love the story telling in this song. How this evolves, she starts with 'he says to be cool but i don't know how yet' and in the second verse 'but I'm already coolest' and the ending showing all the dark side of it, or when she first asks 'can we party later on? But in the second parts she asks for diamonds. This is a masterpiece to me! Loved your reactions as usual!!!
i can't even believe how this woman doesn't have any Grammy for all the ART that she made and keep making it. Literally I cannot understand all those people from recording academy
In fact, the blue dress carries a very relevant meaning for the clip! The baby blue represents purity, as she 'displays' herself over the dead animal, in these scenes, representing the wild - and slightly dangerous - life she submits to. The false idea of power; of being the "pretador", but in reality ("Blurring the lines between real and the fake") all individuals there are subjugated, even if they appear to be "grand and powerful" with so much money and spotlight. Which, on the other hand, basically represents an empty and meaningless life ("We’re on a quick sick rampage Wining and dining Drinking and driving Excessive buying Overdose and dying) Lana was so right in including Marylin in this idea! Because her life was about that...
@@yakuzio I said that on my Twitter. I genuinely hope she never submits or even goes again and I’m being so serious. She got Artist of the Decade. And I’ll take that W. That speaks volumes.
i think she plays both marilyn and jackie as a way to say i can be your everything. your national anthem. i can be your wife and your mistress, i have enough love for two women to give you the world. also could represent the duality of women and her own insecurities. the pressure to be the perfect woman as jackie represented in her time and the pressure to be a sex symbol and be desired all the time like marilyn. you either were the boring mother or the harlot no man could ever take seriously, you could only be the housewife or the whore. lana talks a lot about that in her music.
This is the first time I have ever come across one of your videos and happily I clicked on it. As a long time admirer of the great Ms. Lana Del Rey, I thankfully appreciate your analysis. Just subscribed to your channel. I so look forward to watching your other videos, Lana and otherwise. You could probably devote an entire channel just to analyzing and reacting to Lana's lyrics. How this woman has never won a Grammy or multiple Grammys is an absolute disgrace. The 'Born to Die: The Paradise Edition' album to me is Lana's masterpiece and the most preeminent musical effort of the 21st century by any artist to this point. The lyrics, the instrumentation, everything is just perfect in every possible way. There is no song on the entire record that I do not consider to be great to listen to or watch on a video when applicable. It is one of those albums that just mesmerizes you on first listen from start to finish and leaves you in awe. And I still feel this way over a decade later since its release. Cannot count how many late nights I spent listening and re-listening to this album. I do not so much as lament that it has been this long since it came out, but that I was alive when it did come out and experienced it in real time. Unlike let's say the Beatles or a number of the classic rock albums that came out in the 1960's or 1970's. Anyway, thanks again for this video and your channel. Wish you the best personally, as well as professionally.😃
A lot, indeed. I, too, was jarred despite expecting the boom would happen at some point. This is beautifully sad. Lana is so good at beautifully sad. ❤
I've been following your channel since you started reacting to Lana, i love how you chose to do separate reactions to songs rather than whole album reactions. Not only is it great for your channel to bring in viewers regularly, it also allows for a in depth analysis of each song which i love from you. ❤
this is really just a message of appreciation of you and your channel. it feels so grounded and real, and i love you for that. thank you for putting your content out there for us to enjoy!
Absolutely loved your reaction.. I saw a theory saying that Lana’s discography serves as almost like a warning… from a big sis/ mother figure.. especially in her early work BTD & UV… she mentions a lot about drug abuse, abuse, codependency, and toxic relationships.. each song is meant to be triggering and brutal.. it’s showing you what may and will happen if you go down that path.. especially with ofc the BTD. Music video and UV music video. A lot of ppl assumed Lana was glamorizing and encouraging that type of toxicity but In reality she’s warning you.. definitely revisit or watch Carmen MV I feel like that song is a great example to what I’m saying…
Great reaction as always! One of my favourite Lana songs. I've always felt it was an ironic take on our capitalist society. I think Lana believes money is important, especially as someone who didn't grow up with a whole lot, but like you said, it's not everything and really doesn't make you happy and I think that she is very aware of that. (not sure if you've heard it but she touches on this in her song Religion too, where she says "it never was about the money or the drugs, for you there's only love.") and I feel like this song is sort of being tongue in cheek when she says things like "money is the reason we exist". Like that's not what Lana actually believes, but it's the message that society and the media constantly seems to be pushing. I do know that Lana actually did date a very wealthy investment banker at one point when she was living in New York before she was famous, and I'm guessing that it's also partially about her initial feelings of inadequacy while being with him. (He says to be cool but, I don't know how yet) and eventually getting over that feeling and becoming more confident within the relationship. (He says to be cool but, I'm already coolest.) It's great this guy has money but it's really that feeling of love and safety that she wants from him.
102 million views and at least 400 of them are mine. I watched this video everyday for over a year. It makes me so emotional; it is gorgeous. Her epilogue just chokes me up every time. I loved learning about the Kennedys when I was younger. Lana did a really great job capturing the essence of them and the old American Dream that died with them. My husband's Great Uncle was even the police officer who was escorting Lee Harvey Oswald when he was shot. I love her "trust no one" tattoo. Excellent analysis, Mere!
I think she wasn’t playing two roles( Jackie and Marylin) i personally think she played Marylin as the First Lady instead of Jackie and that the outcome of him being shot was “inevitable” and has nothing to do with whom he stayed…. Some sort of criticism on the public and how they always have put women against each other and so on
Mere you’re literally glowing ❤️😭 by the way, off topic, you should definitely react to “Oblivion” by Grimes, it’s about the fear of walking alone at night as a woman. Ily🫶
I remember watching something a while ago where one of Lana's fans recommended that she sang as Marilyn in the beginning and she was like you know what ? That's a great idea 💡 and it was so tastefully done and she sang it so beautifully it was a perfect rendition to include in the story telling .. she's so good at what she does. How she hasn't won a single Grammy by this point is so far beyond me. How incredibly disrespectful after hearing the echoes of the countless voices calling it album of the year and song of the year for so many reasons, how many of the artists admitting how injected Lana's undoubted influence is in their own work, yet pass over her, again, it was so painful to watch. And then no hate to Taylor, but then drag Lana up onto that stage where she's off standing in the shadows, was absolutely heartbreaking. While Taylor thanks the academy for voting the way they do, which is a direct slap to Lana's face. They vote on what's the most popular and what makes them the most money. In saying all of this, I'm not saying that any of the winners don't deserve to win, I'm just pointing out the fact that Lana very clearly deserved her flowers. You can't say otherwise without sounding ignorant and foolish, among other adjectives. And like I've said, I'm more excited for the new album, The Tortured Poets Department (Lana's version) ❤
Just a recommendation here, but i think if u r going to react to a new Lana dong and mv together in one vdo, I think u should react to the audio first then the mv, this way u won't grt distracted by getting the lyrics and visuals coming at u at one (ee know how dense Lana's lyrics and visuals can we) and it will be fun to watch if the vibes u get from the music matches the visuals
Mere react to “Eu Sei Que Eu Vou Te Amar” by Maysa. She was one of the greatest Brazilian composers and singers of the 50s and 70s, with a poetic and melancholic air. In my cr@z! mind she would be Lana Del Rey's “Brazilian Vovó 👵🏼”
I feel like she plays a role of both Marilyn and Jackie due to her identifying herself as "the other woman" and with Marilyn it's obvious, but Jackie also was kinda "other women" to JFK becaus the only thing he was truly faithful and devoted to was the country, that's why she asks him to for once make her feel like the national anthem. Blurring the line between real and the fake is how their marriage appeard perfect to the public, then when the press found out about Marilyn this fasade was ruined but even the soultry romance with Marilyn wasn't that ideal, because she also never was his "national anthem", but even though - both of them, still loved this man and chose to stick with this fake idealistic picture of him in their heads because they just wanted this love so bad. I also feel like the "love from sixth page" is what public perceives as this life they're aspiring to but they're also "blurring the lines between real and the fake" and don't see how this newspaper stories are fake and how it leads to unhappiness and "overdose and dyin" and that's why they praise money as their national anthem.
I am often suprised that so many miss the flip from irony to heartfelt that Lana often emphasis in her lyrics and singing presentation. It is so clear here, her whole voice changes and you even spotted in her eyes. Maybe, being Australian im more in tune with tongue in cheek, because it is rare that we are literal in anything. But critics often falsely take Lana lyrics as always literal.
I was kinda disappointed cause I knew you'd like the man in this one, and we were not gonna get the usual roasting! But my eyes were glued to the screen, this may be my favorite music video reaction you've done!! I appreciate how you went back to the lyrics and really gave this one a lot of thought
This is only slightly on topic because you mentioned Taika Waititi and I'm just wondering if you've watched Our Flag Means Death (he's one of the co-stars). It's an INCREDIBLE show, very funny, very romantic, very inclusive and queer-positive, and also I think it would be interesting to hear you talk about some of the really heavy things that happen re abuse and suicidality and working through trauma.
I think se doesn't put Jackie O and Marilyn against each other or try to compare them, it's more like bringing them together. They both got attention from same man, they were both successful, but they also both lost the said man. Money didn't save either of them. To outside they where both beautiful, stylish and happy, but in the end there were two intelligent women who suffered. They were not that different after all, or should I say under the surface. Like ocean hides currents under it's surface
Three observations: National Anthem was made during Obama era who also epitomized youth, is charismatic, distinguished-looking . . . similar to Chamelot, the JFK era. (2) Lana uses her poetry to send up obsession with designer clothes, shoes, and bags, sleek cars, diamond jewelry . . . the fast life (3) the Hamptons idyllic scenes on the yard on the waterfront are stolen from Tommy Hilfiger ads I am certain!
I know it's outside of your usual genre, but I'd love to see you do anything off of Wildlife by La Dispute. The entire album is a concept album chronicling the frontman's loss of someone close to him and him trying to figure out how to cope with the loss and grief through analyzing the ways other people have. Really great album if you get the chance. I'd recommend the songs King Park, St. Paul. Missionary Baptist Church Blues, I See Everything, or You And I In Unison.
I think you should continue reacting to Lana del rey. More specifically Carmen. I really enjoyed this song and personally I think it’s really underrated. The harmony and storytelling is why I enjoy this song. Carmen is a depressing song the more you listen to the lyrics, I hope you react to this song in the future. Keep up the good content!
Hey mere love the videos!! I’d love it if you reacted to thunder from blue banisters, I’ve somehow only just discovered it and I’m obsessed. Very much in the mould of nfr track, shitting on a man so think you’ll love it!!
I think you hit it right on with the affairs, jfk and his wife didn’t marry for love it was for publicity of the “ideal family” and ideal man, jfk had a lot of affairs one being Marilyn Monroe
15:06 When I saw this video at first I thought she was regretting for not using all the moments she had with him, it feels like a melancholy period she had after hers husband’s dead.
I love how the music video is about Marilyn and JFK affair and everything lana is asking, as both Marilyn and JFK wife, is to be his national anthem 🤧😭
hiii! a while ago i commented ab songs i thought you would like (this is not me rushing you, this is simply me wanting to give a gentle reminder bc i genuinly think you would like lots of songs from this artist 💞💞) they're by marina and they are 'numb' from her first album 'the family jewels', 'fear and loathing' from her 2nd album 'electra heart', and 'happy loner' from her 5th and most recent album 'ancient dreams in a modern land'. marina is my favorite artist and these songs were the first of hers that i really connected with and the songs that made me start loving her. again, i'm not trying to rush you or make you feel like i'm forcing you to do anything, i just like to share music with people i think would like it (especially marina's bc i love her) anyway, you also definitely do not have to listen to all of these songs, you can just listen to whichever one's title interests you the most if you'd rather that (unless you don't want to listen to any of these, which is perfectly okay as well), and if it takes a bit, that's okay, i understand that you might have other things to do and that life gets weird sometimes. i always love watching your videos and hearing your opinions, sending love 💞💞💞
Please react to "Big Eyes" and "I can fly" by Lana, you can react to the two in the same video because its from a movie about this man trying to steal his wife credits about paintings and she refuses to let that man takes what is hers. And I love it because big eyes is act 1 and I can fly is act 2 and is progressive
The fact people trying to make her as a racism woman when back at the beginning of her career she released that video , before anybody act woke and made it a big deal. Love this video, loved that she put asap a black rapper as the president.
Mere, could you please react to Chemtrails over the country club? If you haven't yet... And if you can, tell us the reason for that tornado to appear in the video, I never got that lol
My bad y'all! Wrong rapper. It was G-Easy she dated for a couple of months before he hooked up with Halsey. But hey, don't come at me like that. For real, there's a different way to go about it. Think before you type, please. It's always better to assume the person could be MISTAKEN (as I was) than to assume someone is spreading rumors just to be vicious. I'm not that kind of person. I made a mistake. It was RUMORED they dated, but that's all anyone could prove…Rumors. I was MISTAKEN. Please, show people GRACE and KINDNESS before approaching someone in a tactless manner. I f**ked up and said the wrong rapper…MY BAD. I apologize. Is that good enough? Or should I grovel?
Hey Mere! Love your videos so much. Little thing I've noticed: Sometimes the audio for the Songs/MV is much louder than the audio of you speaking. I have no idea how easy or difficult that is to adjust, but I'd thought I'd let you know. 🖤
I really think this song and video is referencing her ex-boyfriend who suddenly passed away when she was young. She's comparing their love to the American Dream, and the monologue at the end is very telling of that. This is all just my opinion of course
the way you were slightly surprised when you saw Asap playing the president haha....I think choosing a black man to play such an iconic president was a very smart choice by Lana.
The fact that Marilyn d!ed the day after singing Happy Birthday, and Kennedy also d!ed later, makes me think that this video is about they being together in some kind of heaven where they had a perfect life
I think part of the Marilyn and Jackie O juxtaposition relates to her singing a lot about being “the other woman”, like in Cola, the Ride monologue, Sad Girl, and her cover of The Other Woman, plus references to this somewhat in A&W (“Did you know that a singer can still be looking like a side piece at 33?” - clearly seeming fed up with it, especially with how dirty her ex did her).
You definitely have to do ''Tropico'' some day! It's her biggest production (a short film containing three of her songs)
Yesss
Omg YES 👆👆👆
YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah!
Y E S
No one talks about how pretty Mere is ❤
Love her hair
Right?
Her beauty is captivating, but what makes her stand out is her facial expressions and how they express empathy.❤
She is very Chemtrails era coded
❤❤
The part where she says "dark and lonely, I need somebody to hold me" the scene just breaks me. Her eyes really show the sadness in that scene and it's just that it brings lot of tears when she looks at the camera
similar to the Born to Die music video when she sings "...and the road gets tough, I don't know why", she conveys sadness very well
"Lock and lonely; I need somebody to hold me"
National Anthem is an absolute definition of iconic and a proof of lana's aesthetic and lyrical genius
Lana and ASAP Rocky actually have a few songs together: Ridin, Groupie Love, and Summer Bummer.
That epilogue is one of the most gorgeous things I ever heard in music. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the gunshot sounds as she is saying "He was torn"...
Omg I never noticed 😭😭
I have been WAITING for this video. National Anthem is absolutely iconic

I needed this after my agony from the scammy’s. I’m tired of them playing in our and HER fucking FACE. 😭💔

Also, Lana Del Rey used a duplicate copy of Marilyn Monroe's dress, not the original. Unlike COUGH COUGH.
Girl we love when you stop and talk with us about your feelings and thoughts! It’s why I love your content🤗
The biracial comment was odd to me but I do love your pov and hearing different opinions 😊
Literally 😂
Great reaction as always! One of my favourite Lana songs. I've always felt it was an ironic take on our capitalist society. I was kinda disappointed cause I knew you'd like the man in this one, and we were not gonna get the usual roasting! But my eyes were glued to the screen, this may be my favorite music video reaction you've done!! I appreciate how you went back to the lyrics and really gave this one a lot of thought
Awww congrats to your friends baby!!! hope ur hanging in there mere! 🤍
Yes! This song is one of my absolute favorites from BTD. Great job as per usual.
in the "candy necklace" music video she also acts like Marilyn and Jackie
Not jackie though
I'm from Philippine and I really luv ur videos ❤❤❤
I lover how dramatic her facial expressions are 😂
You Channel is só famous in tiktok Brazil. We loves u, Mere
It is nice to see how your channel is growing
I think you should continue reacting to Lana del rey. More specifically Carmen. I really enjoyed this song and personally I think it’s really underrated. The harmony and storytelling is why I enjoy this song. Carmen is a depressing song the more you listen to the lyrics, I hope you react to this song in the future. Keep up the good content!
React "Dark but Just a game" by Lana Del Rey
i second this ^
This video is iconic and song is a masterpiece ❤
Hey mere love the videos!! I’d love it if you reacted to thunder from blue banisters, I’ve somehow only just discovered it and I’m obsessed. Very much in the mould of nfr track, shitting on a man so think you’ll love it!!
Goddess. She’s at a whole different level.
I think you hit it right on with the affairs, jfk and his wife didn’t marry for love it was for publicity of the “ideal family” and ideal man, jfk had a lot of affairs one being Marilyn Monroe
Amazing reaction as usual ♥️
15:06 When I saw this video at first I thought she was regretting for not using all the moments she had with him, it feels like a melancholy period she had after hers husband’s dead.
Ok so … are we not going to talk about the roach 🪳 that appears in the back at 14:06 - 15:00 and 17:46 😂😂😂😂😂
I love how the music video is about Marilyn and JFK affair and everything lana is asking, as both Marilyn and JFK wife, is to be his national anthem 🤧😭
Oh good old Lana we love her you should go to her concert
i just want to say you are so gorgeous! you remind me of Elizabeth olsen and lily collins a bit!
Finally!!!! This is a really good song and im happy you did it. (Imo the demo one is better , change my mind)
hiii! a while ago i commented ab songs i thought you would like (this is not me rushing you, this is simply me wanting to give a gentle reminder bc i genuinly think you would like lots of songs from this artist 💞💞) they're by marina and they are 'numb' from her first album 'the family jewels', 'fear and loathing' from her 2nd album 'electra heart', and 'happy loner' from her 5th and most recent album 'ancient dreams in a modern land'. marina is my favorite artist and these songs were the first of hers that i really connected with and the songs that made me start loving her. again, i'm not trying to rush you or make you feel like i'm forcing you to do anything, i just like to share music with people i think would like it (especially marina's bc i love her) anyway, you also definitely do not have to listen to all of these songs, you can just listen to whichever one's title interests you the most if you'd rather that (unless you don't want to listen to any of these, which is perfectly okay as well), and if it takes a bit, that's okay, i understand that you might have other things to do and that life gets weird sometimes. i always love watching your videos and hearing your opinions, sending love 💞💞💞
Finally! 😅 Tropico next, please please, please! 🙏🥲
You should do Salvatore by lana del rey :) and Salvatore means savior.
This lyric is usually not captured right - "it's a love story for the new age, 46 page" - AA book = 46 pages.
I really need to work, but I can't resist watching one of your videos lol
Please react to "Big Eyes" and "I can fly" by Lana, you can react to the two in the same video because its from a movie about this man trying to steal his wife credits about paintings and she refuses to let that man takes what is hers. And I love it because big eyes is act 1 and I can fly is act 2 and is progressive
The fact people trying to make her as a racism woman when back at the beginning of her career she released that video , before anybody act woke and made it a big deal. Love this video, loved that she put asap a black rapper as the president.
Mere you’re sooooo gorgeous
Such an iconic music video and song 💘
Biracial here thank you it was not an easy road for my parents or myself ❤❤
Mere, could you please react to Chemtrails over the country club? If you haven't yet... And if you can, tell us the reason for that tornado to appear in the video, I never got that lol
This mv is a masterpiece ❤
You definitely have tio react to Mitskis 'Lush' Album
when lana says “money is the reason we exist” she’s being sarcastic because everyone thinks when someone has money that their problems are solved
one of her best bridges also yes those are her real tattoos
Yep, he plays the Prez & Lana and he were in a relationship for a while.
they were never together stop spreading this
You all this is a lie! Don’t believe this
My bad y'all! Or should I grovel?
i think shes talking about how much shes griefing cuz ive never heard her talk so positive about a man without sarcasm still sarcastic but.... idk
This is all just my opinion of course
you should definitely react to history of man by maisie peters, it is amazing and has Taylor swift type lyricism
you are so pretty!
Uou esperei muito por esse react 🇧🇷♥️
i always saw the video as Marilyn's dream world with jfk like when it switched to color was her in her dreamworld
omg yessss i missed ur videos❤
PLEASE ARCADIA BY LANA!!! ILYSM, I appreciate ur channel sm ty for everything 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
So ready to get into this vid 🤭
Please react to the music video of burning desire or the lyrics of This is what makes us girls!!!
Pleaseee react to This is What Makes Us Girls!! the title says it all
the way you were slightly surprised when you saw Asap playing the president haha....I think choosing a black man to play such an iconic president was a very smart choice by Lana.
The fact that Marilyn d!ed the day after singing Happy Birthday, and Kennedy also d!ed later, makes me think that this video is about they being together in some kind of heaven where they had a perfect life
She died like 4 months after singing happy bday
I think part of the Marilyn and Jackie O juxtaposition relates to her singing a lot about being “the other woman”, like in Cola, the Ride monologue, Sad Girl, and her cover of The Other Woman, plus references to this somewhat in A&W (“Did you know that a singer can still be looking like a side piece at 33?” - clearly seeming fed up with it, especially with how dirty her ex did her).
Yes, it's the frustration about usually being seen as the 'side chick.' Many women can relate.
