Lana Del Rey - National Anthem (Lyrics)
Money is the anthem of success
So before we go out, what's your address?
I'm your national anthem, God, you're so handsome
Take me to the Hamptons, Bugatti Veyron
He loves to romance 'em, reckless abandon
Holding me for ransom, upper echelon
He says to be cool, but I don't know how yet
Wind in my hair, hand on the back of my neck
I said, "Can we party later on?", he said, "Yes, yes, yes…"
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Booyah, baby, bow down, making me so wow now)
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Sugar sugar, how now, take your body downtown)
Red, white, blue is in the sky
Summer's in the air and, baby, heaven's in your eyes
I'm your national anthem
Money is the reason we exist
Everybody knows it, it's a fact
Kiss, kiss
I sing the national anthem
While I'm standing over your body, hold you like a python
And you can't keep your hands off me or your pants on
See what you've done to me, King of Chevron?
He said to be cool, but I'm already coolest
I said to get real, don't you know who you're dealing with?
Um, do you think you'll buy me lots of diamonds?
("Yes, of course I will, my darling")
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Booyah, baby, bow down, making me so wow now)
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Sugar sugar, how now, take your body downtown)
Red, white, blue is in the sky
Summer's in the air and, baby, heaven's in your eyes
I'm your national anthem
It's a love story for the new age, for the sixth page
We're on a quick, sick rampage
Wining and dining, drinking and driving
Excessive buying, overdose and dying
On our drugs, and our love, and our dreams, and our rage
Blurring the lines between real and the fake
Dark and lonely, I need somebody to hold me
He will do very well, I can tell, I can tell
Keep me safe in his belltower hotel
Money is the anthem of success
So put on mascara and your party dress
I'm your national anthem
Boy, put your hands up, give me a standing ovation
Boy, you have landed
Babe, in the land of sweetness and danger, Queen of Saigon
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Booyah, baby, bow down, making me so wow now)
Tell me I'm your national anthem
(Sugar sugar, how now, take your body downtown)
Red, white, blue is in the sky
Summer's in the air and, baby, heaven's in your eyes
I'm your national anthem
Money is the anthem
God, you're so handsome
Money is the anthem of success
Money is the anthem
God, you're so handsome
Money is the anthem of success
Money is the anthem
God, you're so handsome
Money is the anthem of success
Money is the anthem
God, you're so handsome
Money is the anthem of success

well clearly. The songs just called national anthem. There isn't an "actual national anthem" There are over 200 countries in this world, majority of them have a national anthem... I think it's interesting that Lana portrayed herself as the mistress (Marilyn) and the wife (Jackie) in one video, sort of the two personas that she plays out throughout her music. The other woman, the forbidden lover, the lost soul, and also the devoted woman, the eternal one.
Thanks God somebody saw it. I scrolled down for someone saying this so I wasn't the only one thinking that.
+Dreamer Warrior i saw it because marilyn is my idol❤️❤️❤️
"The eternal one"? Really? Jackie was with Jack because of money (and status), nothing more than that. It never was a "real" marriage.
Sara, please don't get so technical. I was not writing a biography of Jackie for that comment. She was playing the "wife figure", which Marilyn was not.
I was not being rude. I know what Lana did, I just said that Jackie never was ''the one'' for Jack.
A friend showed me this song without me even knowing anything about Lana. After listening to it I discovered a whole new world with her music. My eyes were opened. This song is absolutely gorgeous, just like Lana herself ❤❤

@@katie4482 Late reply, but 4:14
I love that it looks as if she first thinks about what she's going to sing next and, at the same time, she looks so terribly sad... I think it's a very human gesture she pulled here. We have all thought of someone/something that has made us feel desperately sad and that sadness has a way of manifesting itself within us. Idk if that makes sense at all, but my point is that we all have experience this kind of stuff.
I can’t be the only American that listens to this every 4th of July?
Some people don't understand this song/vid is not about what it literally says (money is the anthem). If you look at the video you see what Lana is getting at. This is a persona of a first lady (Jackie) who believes that money and power makes her and her husband (President JFK) invincible, because that's what it seemed like at first... until something happens (he gets shot) and she realizes that money and power doesn't make you invincible, and even if you're the most powerful figures in America tragedy can still strike. This video is a mix of that invincible feeling that most young people have, and then the realization of reality after a wake-up call, like a tragedy.
Megan94824 I think it’s also trying to point out the idea that as a country we have a tendency to worship opulence because it is a distraction from the darkness that happens in everyday life. It’s a double negative in some ways.
@@benjaminjackson9449 I agree! It's a very smart representation of these issues.

I think she would have been even more insane if media didnt pressure her this badly. Still the only queen deserve the queen title
This song is so special and magnificent. Almost cosmic, really.
@Écrivain yeah and it was the same 10 years ago but she was even more underrated

“And I remember when I met him, it was so clear that he was the only one for me. We both knew it, right away. And as the years went on, things got more difficult - we were faced with more challenges. I begged him to stay. Try to remember what we had at the beginning.
He was charismatic, magnetic, electric and everybody knew it. When he walked in every woman’s head turned, everyone stood up to talk to him. He was like this hybrid, this mix of a man who couldn’t contain himself. I always got the sense that he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all of the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him. And in that way, I understood him and I loved him.
I loved him, I loved him, I loved him.
And I still love him. I love him.”

She's still so underrated. Her music is artistically and brutally honest.
Sis she's not underrated
Honey she's not underrated maybe you think that because her music doesn't chart that well but despite if that she's still the talk of town.
@@arthrefuerzo6983 she deserves all the hype
She's literally one of the most important artists to emerge in the 2010s and she's the centre of discussion all the time. Maybe she was underrated till like 2016, but definitely not anymore since everyone knows her.
for doing great music, she is not underrated, actually it’s rare that great musicians have millions of view. In fact her mainstream success is because she looks like a doll with a great aesthetic, not her great music.
I love the way how Lana enunciates in this song, like it’s kinda funny to me but that’s why I love it. The enunciation is so fun, I’m witnessing the slayification of her words as I listen to this song

Don’t know why but the lyrics to this song, especially the hook, makes me get weirdly emotional. I just love the imagery Lana creates with her words. “Tell me I’m your national anthem” is so simple, but such a beautiful expression when you think of it. Love this song

I struggle to find another video from Lana Del Ray that has this much symbolism and meaning or somewhere close to this. I never thought I'd listen to this kind of music but this is genius, brilliant, creative, original way to look at and approach music and it's visual form...I just don't wanna be disappointed with this artist, please don't tell me that this is the pinnacle of her creativity and there's no other project of hers that I can enjoy as much or almost as much as this...
Have you watched Tropico? It's not really a music video, it's more of a short film, but it's very deep and has many symbols.
I love this video, but her video for Ride is definitely my fave ever.. Mainly because it holds a lot of personal truth in it for me and reminds me of my past.
Idk Tropico Is My Personal Fave. Some People Try To Say Its Satanic And Illuminati When Actually Its A Story Of Purity, Corruption, And Redemption. Its Pretty Awesome, You Should Deff Check It Out
Myley Costanzas I have to agree. It can be interpreted as illuminati but idk, I see past it and see what you're seeing
Vlad Belov May I ask you what meaning and symbolism you find?
Lana Del Rey was WAY ahead of her time. I'm glad she didn't get forgotten and is finding success.
National Anthem isn’t just a music video, it’s a reason to breathe, an escape from this cruel world filled with thieves. It’s art, the first gift you open on Christmas, a hug from a loved one, everything you’ve ever want, everything you need

I love Lana's style, and I think this has to be my top favorite music video from her. The scenes and the colors, the old/retro look, I just adore it!
S.Cielo Cuevas This entire video is based on real people. ASAP Rocky represents John F. Kennedy and she is in the role of Marilyn Monroe/Jacqueline Kennedy (later Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis). The Kennedy family was the closest Americans came to having royalty. John F. Kennedy Jr. probably could have become president himself had he not died in a plane crash.
You're not as smart as you think you are.
