      mauro_planespotter My school has white ones. They play the message: [9:06 tone](female voice) May I have your attention please, may I have your attention please, a fire emergency has been reported in the building, a fire emergency has been reported in the building. Please go to the nearest exit and wait for further instructions. [Repeats audio from start]

  • @ZakWolf
    @ZakWolf 9 лет назад +1

    There are a few schools in my city that have these, from when they upgraded the fire alarm systems. They all have Notifier NFS2-640 voice-evac systems with these speaker/strobes, NBG-12LX pulls and FSP-851 smoke detectors.
    One of them, installed in 2009, replaced an old Gamewell FlexAlarm system from 1965 with Vibratone 450 horns; another installed in 2010 replaced a Simplex system from the 80s with 2903+2901-9806 horn/strobes, and another installed in 2013 replaced an old Edwards system that was just relayed into the intercom.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      An older Edwards system relayed into the intercom...that sounds interesting. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like the system would have emitted some kind of tone into the speakers, acting as the signals. I may not be 100% right on this, but it might be close (I saw a video a while back of a Simplex system that would emit some tone into the intercom speakers, with 4903-9219 horn/strobes in the hallway).
      The recent installation of those voice evac in those schools you mentioned seems like a GREAT idea, especially with a mass amount of occupants in the building at a time (students, teachers, etc). Having a system that gives directions seems like a great aid in the event of an evacuation of the building, as opposed to having a horn making a blaring noise. Best of all, the system can be used as a PA system, for an event that requires specific direction (someone instructing to not go towards this part of the school, etc).

    • @ZakWolf
      @ZakWolf 9 лет назад

      Yep. All the new schools they've built in my hometown since the late 90s use voice-evac systems too, but they're EST. My parents' old middle school had a Notifier voice-evac system installed during a 2008 renovation, but most of the alarms appear to be the old SpectrAlert speaker/strobes (clearing out old stock, obviously.)
      My old middle school will probably get a voice-evac system too, if they renovate this summer (the current system is a very old Gamewell FlexAlarm system from the 50s with flush-mount Federal Signal explosionproof-style horns, and NO automatic detection or sprinklers.)
      IDK about the K-8 school I went to for kindergarten; given its' size they might just use voice-evac in the cafetorium and gyms, and horn/strobes elsewhere (some re-walled classrooms had SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes installed, but the rest of the Simplex system is still intact.)

    USfireFan It's fairly easy; I have the voice messages stored on a device (MP3 player or computer will do) and connected it to an amplifier that supports a 25v output or a 70v output. Heck, it even has an 8ohm output. In this case, I was using the 25v output for the two speakers, which could take either 25v or 70v input lines.

      You're welcome! Having the amplifier works the best for the speakers. You COULD hook up the speakers to a stereo system, but it would not be good for the system itself, and you wouldn't get the best output.

      Josh A Ok first of all, it’s a *speaker* meaning it requires an analog audio signal, if you just power it you’ll blow it up (due to resistance;acts as a heating coil; frying the alarm)

  • @evannazario331
    @evannazario331 9 лет назад

    Do you need something to activate the speaker? When I apply power, the speaker makes 1 popping sound.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      Evan Nazario First and foremost, don't apply DC power to the speaker...it will eventually damage it (hopefully you didn't damage it too much). What you need is an audio source of some sort (mp3 with messages and amplifier). The mp3 device can easily plug into the amp, which will output the audio signal to either a 25v signal or a 70v signal. I use a 40w Pyle audio amplifier for this. It's able to output to an 8ohm speaker, a 25v speaker, or a 70v speaker.

    Can I connect this to a conventional fire alarm control panel? Are there additional wirings needed or just the same wiring as the normal Notification devices like bells and LED strobes?

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  4 года назад +1

      Pretty much any manufacturer's devices and panels that are not Simplex utilize conventional notification devices only, even addressable panels from these companies.
      Short answer is yes. In this case, the strobe(s) would be wired directly to the panel. You would need the correct equipment to send audio to the speaker(s) as well.

    Hi does the wheelock 34t-ws-24 skip a beat like a 7002t

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  8 лет назад

      +Emillio Melendez No, they do not. That's because the horn and the strobe can be wired separately from each other. On the 700X series, the strobe is hard-wired in series to the horn. Because the strobe pulls so much power from the horn in this arrangement, it causes a "skip."
      Interestingly enough, if I wired the horn and strobe on one of these devices in a parallel circuit, the horn would not skip. I would be able to do this if the horn on my 34T-WS-24 worked (although I made up for it by sticking another 34T next to it, I made a video of it a while ago).

    Can you still wire the speaker part even if you DON'T have an amplifier?

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      Fire alarm speakers are much like PA speakers, they have a transformer on the back that takes a 25v or 70v input and steps it down to a more reasonable input for the speaker itself. These systems are designed to hold many speakers with constant current, unlike a typical stereo system at home which is designed to have two 8 ohm speakers.
      It is possible to wire the speakers up to a typical stereo unit, but I DO NOT recommend doing so. Because the alarm speakers require a much higher voltage (25v or 70v) than the typical output of a stereo (8 ohm output), you won't get a very loud sound out of the speakers. Furthermore, this can eventually damage the stereo unit, since it is drawing a bit more than it should.
      If you can find a way to use the speaker without the transformer on the back, there should be a 4 ohm speaker, lower than the typical stereo output, which could probably damage the speaker.
      If anything, try to find an amplifier that can output 25v or 70v. I found a great 40w one from Pyle audio that isn't too expensive

    • @TrafficControlFreak
      @TrafficControlFreak 9 лет назад

      ***** So how do you wire the amplifier to the alarm? Thanks for help so far!

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      xXPyroPyroXx A speaker strobe should have two pairs of terminals, just like a typical four wire horn/strobe. The only difference is that one set of terminals is the 24VDC input for the strobe, and the other for the audio signal. Wire the speaker up to the amplifier pretty much like a horn, minding the polarity of course. If your amp has a couple of + outputs for the different voltages, MAKE SURE you are wiring to the right voltage output for the alarm speaker you have.
      I explained this as simply (no pun intended based on other companies) as I could, hope this helps more.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      The units themselves don't have terminals, like the typical Horn/Strobe. There's terminals on the bottom of the mounting units (that I mistakenly blocked with my hand in the video). There's separate sets of terminals on the SPSR units for the speaker and the strobe (Each with a single negative and two positive terminals, mainly for supervisory purposes). You mount the plate to the box, wire up the mounting plate, then mount the alarm itself on the plate.

    • @exoticcar5482
      @exoticcar5482 9 лет назад

      Well that would have to do with the voice panel, not the alarms themselves. Voice evacuation systems work more like a PA system, with all the speakers hooked up to the voice panel, rather than traditional systems that just apply electric current and the devices themselves make the sound.

      +Levi Hanson I'll tell you just upfront here. You will need an audio amplifier that will output to 25v or 70v (don't use a stereo, as that will damage the stereo). What you do is wire the speaker to the audio amplifier, minding polarity. The strobe you wire to a typical 24vdc power source as normal.

      +NewEnglandElevators thanks you that makes sense. Where do you get downloads for the different messages?

      +Levi Hanson I believe you can find the Fire Lite message somewhere on their site. I don't know where for sure, though. I don't remember where I found the Simplex one, though.

      +NewEnglandElevators oh okay. Another question.. I have the system sensor speaker strobe SP2R241575 btw. I want to wire it to my iPhone 6 Plus, I don't care if it's loud I just want to make it WORK, would a 3.5mm to RCA cable have any chance of working? I'm thinking the 2 Rica speaker connectors could go in the + and - or I could even strip the wires and put them in that way. Is this even a possibility? Otherwise how do I get a small amplifier that isn't $50-300? Thanks again. I feel silly since I know next to nothing about this stuff.

      +Levi Hanson You will need an amplifier. Fourtinatley, I found a Pyle Home PCM20A for fairly cheap. It outputs both 25v and 70v, in addition to an 8-ohm output (for a typical house speaker).
