    These were just installed at the high school where I graduated two years ago. I wish they had been there when I was, anticipating fire drills and loud horns was extremely anxiety-inducing.
    The school, which has four separate buildings, just renovated two of them. As a building science nerd, I figured they would install voice-evac in one of the buildings since it has a large gymnasium, but I found out at their public open house that they installed Wheelock speaker/strobes not only there, but in the other building, a small classroom building, as well. I don't know what the message is, but I saw a Siemens panel if that gives any indication.
    Side note: In my opinion, the Fire-Lite message is ridiculously verbose and the Simplex message is way too slow. I prefer EST messages which are more concise. However, it astounds me that they never say about the nearest exit, "This may not be the same way you came in." Our silly brains automatically think that the "nearest exit" is the way we came in and people need to be told specifically that it probably is not.

      Not a fan of est. some of the custom Simplex messages I really like (not the default). The Siemens and Wheelock messages I really like.

      While the E70 series may have a somewhat flush appearance, somewhat more classy; these do have a somewhat modern appeal, more box-like. Not sure why, but it seems more modern looking.
      Oddly enough, what I didn't bother to mention was that this is close to the 7001 series, with the strobe on top, audible on the bottom, etc. In fact, it's close to the size of the 7001 series!

    A store at the local mall by me has E50's installed and actually play MUSIC through them. Never seen nor heard of that until I walked in there one day to look for sport items.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      There's more and more fire alarm and intercom system (I am assuming that's where the music is coming from) integrated installs that are appearing. Walmart I know, has a few installs like this.
      Fire alarm voice evac systems are starting to become more and more popular due to the wide capability of notification options (Fire, and other Emergency notification) into one large PA-like system. I'm assuming there is a desire to implement your typical intercom system with the fire alarm system into one large system. Therefore, you have the best of both worlds; PA when you need to page someone/general ambiance in the store, and emergency notification (Fire, Weather, Intruder, etc) when you need it.

      +FireAlarm42 I do like the design of these, particularly because of how close it is to the AS. The snap-on cover design makes life a little easier as opposed to the E-70 (screws that hold on cover-plate can get lost, luckily, haven't lost any yet).

  • @dale4231
    @dale4231 4 года назад

    The reason the ET70 goes up to 8 watts is because it’s a high wattage type of speaker. The E70 only goes up to 2 watts but the ET70 goes up to 8. The E50 goes to 2 and the ET50 goes to 8. I guess that’s just how Wheelock does it.

      This video is still the standard 30fps; I am unable to record at 60fps at this time. I don't see the need to record in a high frame rate yet, I still think it looks fine at the standard 30fps.

    • @Rodj12341

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      ***** Actually, you do have a valid point there, you may be able to see the light flash as opposed to the huge flash across the screen. Now I did say I personally don't have the equipment record in 60fps at this time, nor do I feel like investing in it just yet. However, I changed mind; I might be able to borrow a 60fps capable camera to try this out. Thanks for the suggestion!

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      ***** Done! Uploaded the video yesterday. You're able to see the strobe a lot better. I found as long as the strobe a low candela strobe, you would be able to see the strobe.

    I have this alarm!!! Just don't know yet how to wire the speaker though :/

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      This is a nice alarm, I have enjoyed it so far. It's easy to wire the speaker, all you have to do wire the speaker from the audio source, preferably a 25v or 70v amplifier. Usually, these have some sort of Auxilary line input where you can plug in an audio source. Basically, you can plug in some sort of MP3 player (a cheap one or an iPod) or a Computer to feed audio into the amp, which outputs to the speaker.
      Other than making sure you have a sufficient audio source, it's easy to wire up, almost like wiring up a horn or strobe. The only thing I would say you would have to look out for is setting the speaker up correctly, making sure you have the proper voltage setting selected. It's probably not a good idea to send 70v into a speaker that is set up to accept 25v.

    • @NewEnglandElevators

      Oddly enough, no, I haven't lost power. Most of the snowstorms I have experienced, I haven't lost power, not even for any "NorEaster" or Blizzard. The only exception to that statement was a snowstorm in October 2011. Back then, I lost it for almost an entire week.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      You would think we would lose it a lot up here with some of the wild weather we have (snow, thunderstorms, etc). Somehow, it's every once in a great while there is an outage of some sort, usually never weather related. Most of the time, the power is restored within 4 - 7 hours.

    My church has those alarms and they system is a Siemens. Also the school part watch is they Christian school they system is a Siemens too but with Wheelock E70 Speaker Strobes. They system used to be a simplex but got replace with they Siemens system in 2006. So they Wheelock E70 they were used for old Simplex system too. I am guesting they old simplex system was of 4100 from the mid or late 90's. Now i don't know what the church part what voice evc it plays. But i only the school part they system does a code 3 tone and a famale voice. Saying May i have your attention may i have your attention they been a fire emergency reported in the building please evc the buliding by the nernst exit do not use the evevator.

    • @NewEnglandElevators
      @NewEnglandElevators  9 лет назад

      Steven Lebbing I would say the Simplex system was originally installed somewhere in the later 1990's, if the E70's there had the horizontal strobes (like the one I show in the video). Otherwise, the 1990's is somewhere in the ballpark.
      I wouldn't be too surprised if the E50's were a part of a new installation in the church itself; for any new Siemens install/expansion, they currently use some sort of Wheelock device (either an E50, E70, or any other Wheelock speaker for voice evac). Are the church and the school part of the same building or at least connected to each other? If so, they may be using a central panel to drive all the alarms in the building, so the evac message in the church may be the same as the school.
