I got Smurf accounts that tag me in Twitch so they could stream snipe me, and RUclips be like if parent turn their kid mode on if I'm playing game kids like the only chatting with me is a kid on live. Smurf accounts bypass the lock identity So I'm just accepting I'm not into popularity, and I'm not creative enough to be entertaining with the same age audience
The 3rd party engagement restriction clause is vague enough that it might not be limited to chat but may also include things like follow/sub/member alerts. The oneway street analogy is perfect. This move really feels like the Twitch wants multi-streaming so that streamers can allow people to watch their Twitch streams on YT or Kick but not the other way.
I specifically asked them (Twitch Support) this question: since I'm not allowed to show events from other platforms on screen, can I at least actively acknowledge them saying "Thanks for the Super Chat" for example? Let's see what they answer me.
Multistream is why Kick ain't working and why allowing it will kill Twitch too. Viewers do not like to watch live content when the broadcaster is interacting with a chat they can't see. Why the fuck is this so hard to understand. No one grows from restream. No one.
I think one of the big considerations is that people can upload their vids now straight to RUclips, since they're streamed on RUclips, and edit them down from there. Plus a quick conversion to shorts. I think Twitch has the strength as a live streaming tool, and by letting it thrive in that spot and be an accessory to the other platforms and their strengths, it has a lot to offer in this new form.
I’m a bit surprised the turn Twitch has taken considered I expected Twitch to die off. I think it’s definitely a step in the right direction but there’s a long way to go yet
Thanks so much for being so kind and gracious with your time at TwitchCon -- It was a such highlight to meet you and thank you for all the knowledge! I went to the panel with product leads for Stories and Discovery feed and I was really encouraged by all the coming features, focus, and felt like they are thinking about (and curious about) it all in the right ways. The excitement around what these new features could mean for streamers and viewers was palpable with the program leads in a way that felt SO different than the same people on stage last year. Specifically, they talked about the challenges of trying to optimize the discovery feed differently than all the other platforms do -- into new channels to follow, not into just staying in the feed all day. This will be a tough challenge, but it's great to see how clearly they understand that. They also are not making assumptions about what will content do well or poorly in that format, and are positioning to be able to respond to the user data. Will be fascinating!
I personally think that if Twitch was to make some form of evergreen content that streamers could make on the platform it would have the opportunity to join the other camp. An example is your stream VODs. If they allowed streamers to save VODs indefinitely and then built a video discovery system around that pushing people towards watching your VODs or highlights they can monetize that with ads like RUclips plus you would passively gain new viewers, followers and revenue. They could even expand on their in-house video editing tools to make it easier for streamers to edit their VODs and highlights by including all the basic functionality that easy to use video editing software has (such as clip champ)
I don’t have an issue with NOT combining chats because up until recently, Kick didn’t even have a Tos and still doesn’t have a good one. While your chat may be respectful, twitch shouldn’t have to suffer the awful experiences most kick chats tend to display. A way to help with streamers ad sales and lower stream hours can be improved by the stories as well as adding posts/updates via each channel. I know stories just came out and will improve in time but we are used to the ads in between story posts on IG and instagrams ads actually garner a lot of sales. I know I click on the curated amazon ads all the time. Yes that takes you off the platform but I believe if the story or stream is made into a small picture n picture when visiting said ad, they will be more inclined to head back. Just my thoughts on the matter. Great video.
So question if you use something like Botrix or whatever you use that can combine them but you turn off the little icon thing to show which platform its coming from in the overlay would that still be against the Multicasting/Simulcasting TOS?
Authenticity is everything for me. I find myself much happier after watching Twitch, compared to soulless videos, however carefully planned they are. YT got people too, but the live format is so scattered I feel and the chat just a blurr, so I don't feel a part, rather apart People who don't care about the psychology won't need to bother comment to this, right?
The number of people who clearly ONLY read the headline after the other policy excepts were made live, had me shaking my head. It's a mini-step in the right direction, but those exceptions are HUGE and betrays what *SHOULD* be a good announcement, into one that most creators should question. My big issues is Twitch doesn't support AV1, so I cannot push 4K to YT because Twitch doesn't have their act together? Part of why I enjoy YT is the ability to share my exceedingly rare live streams in 4K. I'm not downgrading the YT experience, even if I have zero viewers, so Twitch doesn't feel left out at 900p.
Personally, I feel like this is just another "until they start banning people for it, then don't worry about it too much" kind of situation. Much like what you said about multistreaming before this rule change.
I'm thinking of a few ways to circumvent this rule. The chat could be placed as an overlay at the time, the stream is being broadcasted, and then the chat of the respective platform is beeing placed and displayed on stream. As a streamer, you would then have a multi-chat to read all the messages. I think that would probably be one of the best ways to bypass this. Maybe it will be available as an OBS feature soon. Which source will be outputed to which platform?
I honestly think they don't want you combining chats because they (as in Twitch TOS / Guidelines) cannot moderate what people say on other platforms, and they can't hold the streamer accountable for other platform chat rules (kick especially), and they don't want that appearing on their platform which could lead to issues. I think it makes sense, they could have made that clearer though.
Yes and no. Clancy said in a Q&A that if they allowed showing merged chats on stream, the streamer becomes responsible for what is said in them (and therefore, shown on stream) and that is a burden they don't wanna put on streamers. Like, imagine getting banned on Twitch for a racist message from Kick that made it into the stream.
Love your content. The only opinion I have is that it's good to see someone who actually seems to care about the future of Twitch in Shear's shoes. I hope he keeps pushing forward to make changes for the better :)
It was so great meeting you at twitch con, I was glad to see that you're as awesome and kind in person as you are in your videos! Thanks giving me the knowledge I needed to get started, and most importantly, for telling me to start a yt channel over and over until I finally did. It was a game changer for my stream and my life. Thanks for doin what you do while being who you are. Cheers 🎉 - LuckyGhost
I kind of understand not driving your viewers to other streams, that makes sense to me. The chat thing seems dumb, but you can always just make it visible to yourself combined, and not everywhere
REALLY looking forward to your chat with Dan today! Thank you for your consistent and infinitely valuable content; I aspire to be you when I grow up. Peace, love, and hot dog flavored water 🌭
I'm of the mindset that not just in the world of content/media creation, but just about every aspect is even more aggressively about corporate desire to monetize users, yet still come off as a service for us to engage with. I'm a freelancer who is slowly trying to gain ground in freelance work, keep my presence on TikTok/RUclips and eventually on Twitch happening on literally next to no budget, and just myself as the only source of labor. The burn out aspect is real, so knowing that I have to go live as much as up to 30 plus hours to gain ground is frightening to say the least.
Thanks for stating your takes. I truly think this is a big and surprising W from Twitchs side. I am very happy I can freely focus on fun content on Twitch, RUclips and Tiktok now. I don't even mind the new rules from Twitch - I had planned on making Twitch my go to stream place and main chat anyways, but wanted to be able to restream it on youtube. And that is now officially possible. I am grateful for that. TikTok streaming feels VERY different than Twitch, so I will actualyl dedicate separate streams to that. Shorter than on twitch, but also more casual. Sure it's a time consuming endeavor, but I also believe in treating each platform with a dedication of it's own in respect to it's community. :3
My biggest question is, why Twitch doesn't offer a good bot? Why do streamers have to go for Streamlabs, StreamElements, Nighbot and so on, that often don't work very reliably? I'd bet that a lot of streamer would pay around 10 bucks per month to have a good chatbot. Second question is: Why there is no possibility to directly buy the games the people see in stream? I mean, Twitch belongs to Amazon, the biggest shopping company in the world, right? Why don't they make use of this momentum? And last but not least: Why is there no direct option to donate via Amazon Pay? What does Amazon own Twitch for if it doesn't make use of any good options to get buyers out of it besides Twitch merchandise?
Love the updates, also That I got em here as I have no one else talking about them - but for equipment, do you have thoughts on the new DJI Osmo 3? the pocket camera as a vlog camera?
I think one of the great things about Dan Clancy is that I see him a hell of a lot more. Being transparent was something Emmett was awful at. Dan is actually out on the floor of the cons talking to people. I would have never seen Emmett be on someone's stream, let alone a stream that's also on Kick and RUclips.
I was thinking the other day that, if Twitch get on partnership with Instagram, could be a great duo platform. That way you can have a community focus platform where the creators can feed their community and then you have your live content in twitch. This is a vague idea but I think, if you want your competitors be as good as you are, there are always improvement for everybody. Thank you so much for your content Harris, Inspirational as always! Big hugh for ye!
Thanks for the coverage. Always a pleasure getting the information from you. Its going to be "fun" with the chat overlay, but hey, how will they know if you do it 😂
Realistic or not, it's not about RUclips trying to adapt and compete with Twitch, it's Twitch adapting to compete with RUclips. The only avenue I see that Twitch can take to solve those final hurdles of cutting down streamer hours etc. is to add in RUclips style uploaded content.
As someone who just kinda wanted to play games and chat with folks while doing so, being part time....engagement is going to be HUGE, and Twitch not allowing that engagement cross platform kinda hinders that. It will be weird to have those one way conversations when the non-twitch platforms interact and can't see each other. It would be nice to see that magic "discoverability" thing happen, but that isn't just a Twitch problem.
Good stuff! I actually don't think that the one way street is bad, as Twitch is still the best place to be when it comes to live streaming. People may become aware of your twitch stream when they see you like on RUclips or Kick when they may not find you on Twitch. I see it as a chance. Plus, we're finally heading into a good direction again.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting you this weekend Harris, and thank you for your kind and inspirational words! Hope to meet you again when I've grown as a creator, and as a person. (Thanks for adding me to the beginning of the video too, that was such an exciting small moment!!!)
i can understand the having people come to your chat and not on other platforms. its a competitive market. at the end of the day, kick and RUclips are rivals to Twitch. i think twitch needs to implement a better editing system for its users to chop up their videos and make content out of them so we CAN upload them to youtube or other platforms. what they have is simple, but its not enough. especially with most editing softwares being super pricy. Twitch is headed in the right direction imo, but they're still hitting all the potholes in the road so to speak.
thanks for the awesome content, i tried setting up aitum vertical plugin (that i have been using for a year now for shorts) to do a multistream, using the main obs to stream to twitch and then aitum vertical plugin to RUclips but it just doesn't let me connect, i have backtrack off and the right stream key but i get the error "an unexpected error accurred when trying to connect to the server" nothing online helps.
Thank you for the information! I want to start streaming soon but, I have no logo, brand and social media set up for it. Do you advise to start streaming and then set the rest up or the other way around to give maximum exposure?
I mean it as a compliment but I follow you for a few years now and I noiced that beside you getting more pro you're sounding more slick every vid. I can't catch up with your level of slicknes anymore. You're so pro
Hi Harris! Thank you so much for being such an amazing person, and I was so glad we got to take a photo together! P.S. thank you for your amazing light tutorials 😉 😎
OMG 8:34 Too much of a flash back moment from the girlfriends line, from past girlfriends and also from Twitch. 😂❤🤘Nailed it. At least where making SOME progress. Keep rocking it Streamers! ❤🤘
Actually it's not just about streamlining chat. While chat is a core point of what multistreaming is all about, we simply CAN'T forget about alerts and overlays. Having good alerts and overlays is often the ENTIRE catalyst for a live stream. The chat keeps it alive, but the chat interacts with the alerts and overlays. Twitch needs to make a move to make THEMSELVES THE GO TO place for multi-platform overlays and alerts. Their current system sucks, and we have to rely on third party apps to do this for us, and even they haven't made this move yet. But it's a move that HAS to be made and WILL be made if multistreaming is to ever become a priority. And if that's the case, then it would be incredibly stupid not to be the first one on the bandwagon when this becomes a thing.
I think it's interesting that you pointed out how it is basically one or the other for streaming or youtube. I ran into a brick wall of burnout trying to do all of it an manage a full time creative director position in entertainment advertising. The struggle was real and I had to pull the plug on it for my own sanity.
Thanks for the video! I am super new live streaming and Its not games ... We do a live cam off our balcony looking at the ocean .... do you have any tips for the non gamer streamers?
Yeah, I am doing multichat, but I took the emblems off, so you don't know where its coming from. But yeah, agree, it was a stupid decision. I have a feeling that it might change down the road
If Twitch put a bit more thought into it, the multiplatform chat overlay is a good idea. It makes a better show/stream when you can see all the details and interactions IMO. Side note until youtube starts running adds during live streams, people might enjoy that experience more. I recently tried watching some new channels that I do not sub to on Twitch, and I left within 15 minutes because of the add breaks. Great video as always, and thanks.
Twitch-con still felt too advertisey but I honestly don't think that'll ever change, sure beats vidcon at least. Also I'm glad the CEO's got swapped because it shows people how much power a CEO has in screwing over or reviving a company, so many people blame and harass Twitch employees when most of the bad decisions are finalized by the CEO. Same kind of thing happens with game developers being blamed for greedy moves done by their publishers.
I think that each platform does its thing very well and that's it. RUclips is for long form and now short form content that has the additive of streaming. Twitch and Kick are solely streaming platforms, with very little additives. Tik Tok is great for short form and then you had the additive of weird streaming, not a true community engaged streaming experience. As a streamer of three years on Twitch, I decided to stop and refocus on long/short form on RUclips as my time is limited and I can gain more from video content than I ever can from streaming. I enjoy my occasional pop ups on Twitch and that is solely my streaming experience these days.
I wonder what has happened to the rest of the basement. Also the future of the company that Harris envisioned when he was building it. Did I miss the launch of series 1 for merch? Maybe he discussed that during some live streams on his personal channels but I didn't get to see those. Love Harris and everything he does
They definitely like to release things half baked. I've been trying featuring clips and using the twitch clip editor but there's 0 editing options, you can't even customise the camera shape or add text. They also really need a page to browse featured clips not directly from the streamers channel. Then maybe they'd be more on par with tiktok because clips are short form which would give people a reason to stay on twitch when their favourite streamers are offline.
1 big step forward, 2 big steps back. It makes absolutely no sense that they are "allowing" people to stream on other platforms, we just can't tell anyone that we are - I mean, WHAT?!
I’ve opened Twitch twice since it became Twitch. They aren’t going to “lose” people to a link or combined chat. Twitch Stans are DIE-HARD and it’s wild Twitch doesn’t know that about their own fan base…
Alright, I had to stop the video to reply to the "big three dumb rules" made, because I'm still Suuuuper geeked about the feature as a whole. The first one I can see why they don't want you to redirect people to other places: because technically, you're already visually doing and Saying that in the first place. Simply saying "I am live on these places!" is already clueing people in that 'oh I can follow this person There too? Cool!" Besides, of course Twitch doesn't want people to Leave the site. It's still the only reason it exists right now. The second one...I've seen streamers doing this long ago already. I believe Etika - Rest in Peace - had been doing it for years, showing not just YT Live chat, but also those from Twitch and other places; but mainly the two mentioned.
I 100% agree with your position on combined chat. It's kind of ridiculous... that's why most people are breaking up with that controlling girlfriend that is Twitch.
About the chat overlay, I do think it's an odd particularity however I can another side to it. If Kick chat is known to be wild, toxic, land of no one (in some cases) and you get those chatters being displayed on your twitch stream that can be troublesome specially when you consider ban evasion and twitch not being able to moderate those users outside of the platform.
Twitch allows multi-streaming, Devin Nash posts to YT again after 2 month hiatus, I think its time for another Devin Nash x Harris Heller video/multi-stream
Wouldn't Twitch version of YT Shorts resolve some of the issues? Infinite scroll of short stream clips would bring in users' watch time and also it would be a way to discover new channels, therefore it might even eliminate the need for RUclips for starting streamers.
I've found Sizzle good for FPS but for games like Dead by Daylight, it kinda falls short a bit. Like the few times I've used it for DBD, it kept giving me compilations of just hooking survivors, but completely missed other moments that were clip or compilation worthy. Beyond that decent program. But in moments like that, it's best to have a side notepad or a programmed button to timestamp those moments for later clipping yourself.
Sizzle definitely isn't good for DBD. I tried it myself, and none of the clips were good simply because of the timing (and it took a couple days for it to review the VOD).
Sounds like a great idea for a big brain person to make a plug-in for obs that allows you to have platform specific scenes like VOD track for scenes so you can have your twitch chat only for twitch but show all for YT & kick. No idea if something like that is achievable
4:37 "stream together" sounds A LOT like RUclips's "go live together" functionality!! Yet ANOTHER example of twitch and YT copying each other's homework!
No combined chat is a little silly, but I think it's a step in the right direction. I personally think if Twitch was smart they would just lean into the socials side and give streamers the option to automatically post clips to your other socials. Maybe put a watermark on it if posted direct but seeing other socials as competition is kind of an old fashioned idea at this point. We all use most, if not all, platforms already
To comment on what you mentioned towards the end, I think its to do with the TOS on other sites, Twitch doesnt want to re liable for something that happened on a different platforms. I bet even those rules will get adjusted as time flows with the changes
Yo, did you enter the $25 cash giveaway from Sizzle.gg yet and start getting free highlights and compilations? Enter here - bit.ly/SenpaiSizzlegg
Sizzle doesn't work for the kinds of games I play on Twitch. No support for Retro games or Romhacks :(
Signed up!
I got Smurf accounts that tag me in Twitch so they could stream snipe me, and RUclips be like if parent turn their kid mode on if I'm playing game kids like the only chatting with me is a kid on live.

I'm super glad to hear the good news!
Late last year, we thought Twitch was going under. But, now the future's looking bright for this platform.
Can you have overlay alerts for other platforms? Is thanking a RUclips membership allowed while on twitch?
Here's a thought, Senpai Streaming! Take your ideas, show them how to do it right, and let them buy you.
I'm a fan of the new multistream. I was ready to move away from twitch but maybe its worth sticking around. ill keep checking back for more updates!

I'm really looking forward to the stream with Dan Clancy! Thanks for breaking down the Twitch Con announcements!
It was so great meeting you! Twitch con was a blast, and watching this was so helpful remembering everything that happened!
well im just glad you exist, harris. and you still continue fighting for us so twitch can be a better platform :")

Yay I have been waiting for this video.... Thank you
Any plans to review the Opal C1 Webcam?
thanks for the awesome content, i tried setting up aitum vertical plugin (that i have been using for a year now for shorts) to do a multistream, using the main obs to stream to twitch and then aitum vertical plugin to RUclips but it just doesn't let me connect, i have backtrack off and the right stream key but i get the error "an unexpected error accurred when trying to connect to the server" nothing online helps.
I have been waiting for this video for like 5 days lol
Great video man. Thanks for the info. Really important stuff when considering multi streaming in the future. 🤔
maybe this is the start of something new with Twitch
Thank you for the information! I want to start streaming soon but, I have no logo, brand and social media set up for it. Do you advise to start streaming and then set the rest up or the other way around to give maximum exposure?
9:19 ...haha best cameo ...the two time in a RUclips video about Twitch....
I mean it as a compliment but I follow you for a few years now and I noiced that beside you getting more pro you're sounding more slick every vid. I can't catch up with your level of slicknes anymore. You're so pro
Thank you for a good update! 😍👏🏻 you’re always clear about What u talk about. Ty again!
Hi Harris! Thank you so much for being such an amazing person, and I was so glad we got to take a photo together! P.S. thank you for your amazing light tutorials 😉 😎
Excited to see a shift. Hopefully things continue to improve.
Need to add a link to the livestream with the Twitch CEO whenever that drops
I appreciate what you do for all of us!
You can't use an overlay to mix chat, would that mean (loophole). If you don't use it as an overlay, you can mix chat? Likely not, but just wondered.
Thanks for the video! I am super new live streaming and Its not games ... We do a live cam off our balcony looking at the ocean .... do you have any tips for the non gamer streamers?
Normal for Twitch to add caveats to any improvements
(Comment for engagement purposes)
😊
I do a livestream on RUclips once a week for 2 hours and I was contemplating switching to Twitch... but now I might just start streaming on both.
gotta love one thing having 50 names
Great updates! Glad to hear about the x of exclusivity.
What not also monetize the recorded livestream for those who watch it afterwards?
Love Harris and everything he does
i walked right by you there, i didnt say hi cuz it was my first twitchcon and was taking it all in, i had a blast
What program do you prefer for multistreaming?
They definitely like to release things half baked. I've been trying featuring clips and using the twitch clip editor but there's 0 editing options, you can't even customise the camera shape or add text. They also really need a page to browse featured clips not directly from the streamers channel. Then maybe they'd be more on par with tiktok because clips are short form which would give people a reason to stay on twitch when their favourite streamers are offline.
What was your setup at twitch con, looked super small
The streaming space is finally exciting again.
These are great things and I am very hopeful for the platform.
That is insane dude 😎 congrats 🎉
Is stream together the same as squad streams? I been wanting squad streaming since they announced it but it's been partner locked.
Does that sizzle app work with Art or makers and crafting? I'm only seeing them advertise for primarily gaming. :/
I hope they call the 2nd Subtember "Dubcember" because it's a huge W
Right on point like always ❤
Love the videos as always
What’s the best tool to simulcast with?
Ah yes. The RUclips Video promoting the Kick Stream with the Twitch CEO.. What a world we live in.. Now we just need a TikTok version..
I promote Senpai for twitch CEO ! ❤
Good video. I think its right on point.
Keep crushing it! ❤
do you have a video on how to start "Twithching" (lol )?
Also 💙...for engagement
To comment on what you mentioned towards the end, I think its to do with the TOS on other sites, Twitch doesnt want to re liable for something that happened on a different platforms. I bet even those rules will get adjusted as time flows with the changes
