I think you must be the first person I've ever heard say they have had a cup of tea on a bike ride! I love tea, but its completely useless for riding, coffee is what you need its packed with energy, oh and food, I'm convinced your fuelling for and on bike rides is what makes your rides possibly harder than they actually are!? I'm in the late part of my 50s and I did 55 km today in 2 hours 45, and every hour I consume minimum 90 grams of carbs, energy bars and banana and hydro carb drink etc etc, and I felt great. And several hours after ride I still feel great also. PS I have COPD lung disease, high blood pressure, herniated discs in neck and lower back, Spine degeneration, and god knows what else, but I just get on with it, putting up barriers and not fuelling correctly is a recipe to fail, cycling is 80% in the head and 20% in the legs!

Wow, fair play to you getting those rides in with all the health issues you have. I used to really like coffee, but since the accident I've found my tastes have changed and I now find coffee very bitter, hence why I've gone to tea. Hopefully will be back drinking coffee soon 🤞

Do me a favour please, and let me know how you get on with it, try honey and a little pinch of salt in your water bottles. Do it with boiled water, helps disolve the salt and melt the honey, obviously cooled for the ride. I found it wonderful. I take 1 x 500ml of water, and 1 x 500ml of this mix. Kinder on your gut, than all those energy mixes.

That’s an interesting tip. I’m not keen on ‘normal’ energy drinks so may give this a go. Will give an update if I do 👍

@@themuddycyclist exactly why I use this method. I don't like the additives in most energy drinks. Go easy on the salt, ¼ of a 5ml spoon per 500ml bottle works for me. 2 tbsp of honey, put it in a coffee mug, boiled water, just enough to melt it all and mix it. Then add your water and honey mix to your ride bottles and fridge em. Works for me buddy. I'm using one and a water today, in 28 degrees 110k around Kent coast!

Did you eat anything during the ride? I bet the answer is no 😂

Never seems to eat when out riding. Booking half way round is your problem, you'll feel a lot better. Well done anyway. I rode 10 miles yesterday, it was my 1st ride in over a year!

@@themuddycyclistvery true. I've come from riding 225 miles C2C in under 15 hours, to a 10 mile jaunt around Worthing! I'll extend it next weekend. Enjoy your recovery, and every extra mile is extra fitness.
