Modern Gravel bikes will take 50mm tyres, or even wider if running 650b wheels. Run them 30psi tubeless for a more smooth ride.

Great to to hear you on the bike still and gettin in good shape , top peddling 💪👍 i was on the sdw a few weeks back on an event and pretty much walked up every hill 😅 the only one i didnt funnily enough is the long left climb u just showed as a top bloke mtb guy peddled up to my side and got chatting so i couldnt walk had to keep peddling 😅. 3 bits of history to add to your otherwise great analysis. First - though as the man caught with the gunpowder, Guy Fawkes is the more famous plotter, it was Robert Catesby who led the plot. They sought to replace an authoritarian protestant regime with a far more oppressive and corrupt catholic one. Second - religious toleration enjoyed in Britain today started with the catholic emancipation movement - which was largely started by Thomas Paine in Lewes. Third - bonfire all but died out in the early 19th century, when the celebrations were closer to Halloween in style - people's begging for food and alcohol from rich people rather than children for sweets, followed by a drunken evening round the Bonfire. In the 1820s, the Cato street conspiracy attempted to assassinate the government, similar to the gunpowder plot. In Sussex in particular, bonfire saw a revival. But with new rich from the industrial revolution, the rich didn't hand out food and alcohol anymore. So bonfires became riots and were outlawed. Smuggler hooped Guernsey's with blacked out faces were a disguise against 300 metropolitan police officers who failed in their attempt to stop the event. So it was made legal again, but the new costumes were used to transform it to the processions of today. From there, costumes have become more elaborate to make it more of a show. Though it may not look like it, bonfire today celebrates today's religious freedoms. It does this by celebrating the failure of the gunpowder plot, while highlighting and in some ways reenacting the almost equally intolerant "sensibilities" of the time. The past is there to be learnt from. How do we learn from it if we don't know it - warts and all. As an aside - the aim of the gunpowder plot was not just to assassinate the king, prince of Wales and parliament. They also planned to capture Princess Elizabeth and put her on the throne as the plotters' puppet.

Im not gonna lie some of you saying "night and day" but i think the wolfang does really well its smooth and not really noticeable if the oerson doesn't know what camera your using anyway. The go pro mainly has more vibrant colors. But u could add thaat in editing. Im getting wolfang thanks for this video

Really useful review, thanks. All the more useful as your chosen ride is on my doorstep! The media marketing machine has gradually chipped away at my self-control and has convinced me that I'd like a gravel bike too. I love my modern MTB but am often frustrated by how sluggish it is. I miss having a road bike, the lightness and stiffness but really don't trust today's traffic and crummy potholed roads to get back into road riding. I can definitely imagine how alien it feels with head down bum up depending down wet chalky mud. I guess the trick is to know when to pick the best bike for the conditions or route. Like you I've not ridden on road for decades. I wonder if I'm remembering the best bits with rose tints on! Hmmmm.... I need to do more research. Thanks for sharing your honest views, great stuff.

The downs link is probably the best signposted route ever, you need exactly zero navigation aids. Its a straight line.

Why? If you are riding off road or unsurfaced roads use an xc hardtail ,better on steep climbs , downhills, and bouncy roads......and are not heavier than a gravel bike which is just a road bike with nobbly tyres.... Ok xc is slower on smooth long roads, but the UK isnt Kansas.

My problem is that crunching and slipping on certain gears when I've already shifted into the gear. Then the chain does that loop thing and almost comes off.!! This has happened ever since I cleaned the drive train...

Nice1 for the video,.. I sold my mht 8.9, and got an 8.6 adv but I absolutely hate the mechanical brakes and the quick release skewers so I've decided to upgrade again to the 8.9 adv.. This video helped me change my mind, thank you!! 🤘🏻😎

I can't help thinking that lack of mudguards was a serious omission, I'll be doing the ride with a couple of mates in september and we will be using winter bikes !

too bad they you can't rotate the vice upside down so that the weight of the bike is helping..

Why not use a 3 foot pipe wrench after putting PB anti seize at the top and the clamp slit.. Then use heat on the bike frame to expand the frame.. and ice pack on the seat tube to shrink it'
