    I’ll be interested to see what you go with in the end! I live next door to the SDW like yourself so looking for that similar bike to you. I’ve always liked the Ribble but I’m not sure about 650b wheels either, the other one in contention for me is the giant revolt! Good luck with the bike shopping and looking forward to that big reveal video 👍

    New Terra C is so nice. Stiff, and you can spec with a roadie 105 Di2 or a more off-road Campag groupset. Bought one based off your vids and have really enjoyed it. So good at linking the road and trails up together.

    I'd go for a change, every bike has their own character. It's always nice to try something new and learn about what you like and appreciate for your next bike. A test ride would be ideal. I'd go for something a bit more exciting than a Boardman or Ribble if you can. The import tax is prohibitive but the Lauf Seigla, which now has an option for Apex electronic is pretty nice and you can choose to have the suspension fork or not. It's insane tyre clearance future proofs it for a few years use. And the Vitus Venon Evo-GR caught my eye too, but is sold out, will hopefully re-stock. I'd stick with 700c for speed, as nice as 650bs look on that Ribble. I got to test ride a 3T Exploro and a titanium Reilly Fusion at the London cycle show - that was a blast. The 3T was so racy, but too firm for me, the Reilly so comfortable but way too expensive! Of course, I can't afford any of these options but it's nice to dream!

      Hadn't thought of the Vitus, but have checked it up, looks sweet. I know what you mean about the Boardman/Ribble being a bit boring but not excluding them. Reilly's are too expensive but looks amazing. Thanks for your input.

    The Ribble does look gorgeous.
    I have a Boardman Team Hardtail MTB and the Boardman Adv 9.0 which is quite new. I got the latter for bikepacking. It's a decent bike, but I too have gear shifting issues. It has GRX600 shifters with RX810 front and rear derailleurs but shifting up to the big wheel is hit and miss. Also there's no mounts on the forks. I have a work around using a Topeak clamps but its not ideal.
    I did want the Orro Terra C is south downs white but it increased in price.
    You liked the Orro but were not ecstatic. The Adv 9.4 has no fork mounts.
    I like your 3 choices and see why you've picked them. I also looked at the BMC URS but the model with the rear micro suspension was too ££.
    So the Ribble"s 660b 47 will make it more off road, for me that negates the differentiation between my MTB. But you have a spare wheel from the Orro...would this spare fit the Ribble? Then you only need to buy a 2nd wheel and you'd be able to swap them out based on terrain.

    • @themuddycyclist
      @themuddycyclist  Год назад +1

      Interesting you had trouble with your Boardman's gears, I did too with my old Adv 8.9. I hear what you say about the 9.4, not fork mounts, not a deal breaker but something to consider.
      I've also looked at the BMC URS, looks very impressive.
      My spare wheel may fit the Ribble, it's not something I've looked at.
      Someone put me onto the Vitus Venon Eve, a beautiful bike but expensive.
      Still unsure which way to go, my net has widened since this vid!

    What did you go for in the end? I have an Orro Terra C on order. It’s a 2024 model but discounted to half price. No intentions to bike pack, just do fast gravel riding and maybe race, which the Orro seems ideal for. I also live in the South Downs and love that I can support a local brand, we have so many, Orro, Reilly, Enigma, Kinesis, USE, Hunt, etc.

For me, id go with the Ribble. I only spent £1300, bike was in a sale, originally £1899.00, but couldnt warrant 3k already having 8k of other bikes. Its a tough one, take your time. I dont regret only buying a more budget oprion. It rides like a dream. 1,500 miles in, on road and gravel, some mtb trails, its not put a foot wrong. How about the Orro Terra C Rival Etap?
    Merlin are doing a very good price on the medium atm (£2399 instead of £3249).
    Wireless shifting with 12 speed wide range Eagle cassette 10 - 52 tooth.

    • @jules52mtb26
      @jules52mtb26 Год назад +1

      I've just bought the Terra C Rival Etap. Yet to ride it though.
      Thought long and hard about GRX400, GRX600 & GRX800. Wasn't interested in the Di2 as the gear range was more road orientated and it doesn't have a clutch, so chain slap more of an issue.
      I did consider the Ekar but I'm not a Campagnolo fan.
      I like the SRAM app usability with the ETAP, lots of configurables, i.e. multiple gear skips on hold of lever, change which lever does what. Fine adjustment of derailleur movement, etc, etc. Also displays gear selected on Wahoo head unit or other compatible head units.

    • @jules52mtb26
      @jules52mtb26 11 месяцев назад +2

      @ MrKosq83
      I haven't ridden it for any massive distances yet. However, I have ridden it on mixed surfaces including the Downs Link from Guildford South and I can say that I LOVE the Etap wireless and the 10 - 52 gearing. I was worried, coming from a 2x setup, that the 1x would leave me wanting more gears. However, I have found it a real pleasure to be able to just keep sequentially changing up or down the cassette. No worries about changing up the rear cassette then down the front ring whilst loosing momentum up hills. Or cross chaining and dropping the chain!
      So far I haven't run out of high speed gears.
      Also the stats that the electronic shifting and App give you are tremendous. It tells you which gears you used, how many miles in each gear, how many gear chages you made, etc. You soon realise, just from the stats, that the higher speed gears get very little use.
      Another thing I love is just being able to look at my Wahoo head unit and being able to see which gear I'm in (you can have it numerically or as a little graphic of the cassette). Personally I have it set numerically so that when I'm going up a hill I can see that, for example, I'm in 3rd gear and know that I have another 2 gears I can drop down if needed! Before, I always used to hope that I'd got another gear I could drop down and was often dissapointed when I tried to change down only to find out I was already in bottom gear!
      The list of functions that electronic changing gives you is phenomenal. For example, you can fine adjust the rear derailleur at the push of a button, no messing with screw adjustment. You can set it to change multiple gears or single steps depending on the length of time of the lever press.
      I was tempted by the Ekar initially, just because of the extra gear. However, my research indicated it was less popular, had more issues due to the 13 speed chain and just being "unique". Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't give the Ekar a 2nd thought. The extras that I gain from wireless shifting far outweigh the "possible" advantage of 1 extra rear ring on the cassette.
      My advice: get the AXS Rival Etap!
      But, at the end of the day, it is your choice.
      I hope this helps. Let me know what you decide to do. If you have any other questions about it or points I've missed just ask.
      Obviously, we are all different and others may disagree with my sentiments or recommendation, it comes down to personal preferences and experiences at the end of the day!
