There have been other videos that show that on the FX3 and 6 the S-I actually introduces more noise in images with less motion than the long gop files. Which makes sense as even with a high bit rate it's still needing to compress down each frame. So for corporate work with talking heads and simple b-roll, it feels like S is the way to go.
Do NOT be misled, V90 cards WILL allow you to film ALL formats in these cameras. XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K/HD, XAVC S-I 4K, XAVC S-I HD, XAVC S-I DCI 4K ALL film perfectly fine with the V90 SD Cards in normal movie mode. The max bitrate is 600Mbps in XAVC S-I 4K (Roughly 0.6 Gb per second) plan card size accordingly. Where you run into trouble with V90 is when you switch to S&Q and try to film in XAVC S-I 4k (1200 Mbps or 1.2 Gbps) and XAVC S-I HD (890 Mbps or 0.89 Gbps) the camera simply won’t let you. Getting a few 256Gb or 500+ Gb V90 cards and then one or two smaller 160Gb CfExpress Type A cards for those perfect XAVC S-I Slow motion clips is more reasonable, cost effective and logical in my opinion.
Thank you for this video. I tried all the format myself and thing it really depends on your project what to use. Long Interviews in XAVC S 4K 50p 150 Mbit/s 4:2:0, short clips in the new format XAVC HS 4K 50p 200 Mbit/s 4:2:2 10 Bit . Ofer all I am disapointed that a Cinema Line Cam like the FX3 does not have XAVC.
I'm coming from the 5D Mark 4 where I use proxies anyways.. I have a older computer since I use proxies you think HS will be okay? I'm doing a conference video
Every time I shoot in 10 bit I'm going to convert the footage in Prores 10 bit 422 to make it editable in Davinci free version. In this case is it better to shoot in XAVC-HS than in XAVC-S?
With FX 3 you can shoot on v90 sd cards in all intra 50p 4k. A 256 GB Card gets 1 hour and 6 minutes video. This is the Best option for that Camera beast. Its offers good quality and no Problems on the Computer With editing and playing and mouvements are better.
I have an older Alienware M15 r6 and it works fine with XAVC-HS h.265 4:2:2 10 bit using Premiere Pro without proxies. I'm going to take a chance and shoot an extreme low light project in HS. Wish me luck! 😨
So I'm trying to get the full experience without worrying about any codec ...I'm guessing just buy a type A cfexpress card. Am I safe to say that's the route?
Talking head videos like yours , you don’t need Xavc S or HS. But doing outdoor filming detailed scenery or action (movement) the quality difference is noticeable i only shoot XAVC SI. Huge files but its worth getting the higher GB cards for it.
Pro res raw is 12 bit and has no noise reduction applied. High bit rate in theory could mean better quality too for fast moving scenes. Other than that you probably wouldn’t see a difference in most situations.
@@quiztasiarocks oh without a doubt XAVC S is the way to go for that sort of work. Interviews have little movement and controlled lighting so you really don't need raw in that situation. Also Id argue light corporate work never has the budget or need for larger file sized codecs. Going for the smaller codecs and even HD makes far more sense.
Depends on the bitrate you choose. You can go with a lower bit rate in H.265 and get the same quality, no need to go with the highest option unless you want the ultimate quality.
Hey Jonathan. I just ordered a FX3 and i’m planning on using XAVC S-I 4K (mostly because it’s easier to edit with, and i do a lot of heavy editing and vfx). I use a fair amount of slowmotion (120fps S&Q), and i’m not sure if i should go for the CFexpress 320GB or 640GB. From your experience do you think 320GB is enough for a day of shooting? A day of shooting for me is approx. 1-2hrs of footage and on rare occations up to 3hrs. I was also thinking about getting a V90 for the 25fps shots and a CFexpress 160GB for slowmotion. The safer option would be a CFe 640GB but WOW it’s expensive. 😢

Can anybody help me figure out the main differences in terms of quality, compression and weight between MXF files coming from a Sony FS5 and XAVC coming from a FX30 as I am considering doing the switch of camera. I want to know how much my editing workflow will change with this new codecs. Thanks
@@gabrielemariotti5780 overall image quality is a big step up, much more dynamic range and you can push the files a lot more. It’s a real night and day difference.
I only shoot in XAVC HS (H.265). Smooth up to 4K@60fps, but painful at 4K@120fps in real time with audio. Worth it in the long run.
Great video, Im using XAVC-HS 4.2.0 for weddings, small file size, smooth editing on M1 PRO and great quality.
Good information
Would you please tell me what the problem that i will have if i use NTSC in a country is using pal?
Which problems will happen?

I'm still waiting for the next episode about the different modes 8bit and 10bit and so on! Good job buddy
Haha I will get round to it. Hopefully over Christmas I'll get a chance to test

How do you convert XAVCS to mp4 playable on android phones please? Is there any apps available?

I made some videos with the fx3 and placed them on RUclips 😮

Any idea why there is no option for 25p in XAVC HS?
Which file type can be playbacked and edited on windows computers
I’d go with S or I but avoid HS on a windows PC

Only with this video do I realise what a stupid system Sony is running….
Better than their FX6 to be fair. That camera doesn't have a 10 bit Long GOP codec.
Prores RAW period.
