Final Boss: Galbalan, Sinister Marauder From Afar
    Nightmare Mode
Adol descends into the Seat of Evil, finding Elena as the last bit of energy needed is drained from her into Galbalan. The ancient being awakens, recognizing Genos' sword in Adol's hands. He curses those whom imprisoned him, as well as mentions how he can achieve the former heights of his power. Chester is able to save Elena as its monologue continues, leaving Adol, Genos' sword in hand, to face the terror known as Galbalan.

Galbalan offers one of the more notoriously difficult fights in the series. His arsenal is large, but it's how he randomizes what he does that makes him truly threatening. From the start, he bombards you with orbs that track you pretty well and move quickly, threatening to shut you down pretty fast. His second attack is two waves of flames which can be jumped over, and the most important of his attacks is when he shoots ice blasts at your position. They form into floating platforms which are needed in order to shoot fireballs at his "face", unlocking its weakpoint. As you try to get shots off, he will be taking his giant sword and smash/swinging it however he pleases, meaning you have to work to deal damage.
After being damaged enough, he will absorb the magic from you and begin his second phase shenanigans. This means lasers. Lots of lasers. Lasers will cross the field horizontally in two different patterns and from both sides, and while they are crossing Galbalan's arms will be doing one of a few things. He will either cross the field with a vertical beam, pound his hands into the ground in an attempt to crush you, or he'll shoots flames with one hand and orbs with the other. It can become VERY difficult to keep up with everything on the field, and it's easy to get clipped by the edge of all of his attacks. His randomization can work against you as well, as if you hop on the ice platforms he shoots he may decide to follow up with orbs, meaning you'll have to jump back to the ground (riddled with lasers) or risk getting shot up. Everytime you hit his hands enough, youll stun him and cause him to charge the field with his body, pulling up a field of ice which will continuously damage you unless you're using Earth magic.
Galbalan's final phase is a classic game of ping pong....or perhaps a bout with Ganon. He'll sap your magic once more and summon a giant ball of energy which you must volley back at him in order to finish him off. Easy enough, but he also summons two obstacles during this. One of these is in which will be filled with spiraling bits which will hit you for minimal damage but stun you enough to miss hitting the ball (coincidentally this lags remotejoy, throwing my timing way off). The second attack is similar to Garland's, in that he has a claw appear from the ground and attempt to drag you in. If it does, and automated attack occurs which you cannot dodge. Unlike Garland's, however, you can use earth magic to negate most of it. Besides those, the energy ball itself does a HUGE chunk of damage if you fail to volley it back to him.
Overall, this battle requires a really specific rhythm and extreme perseverance, but it is possible. Fortunately, unlike Inferno mode, there is some space for mistakes, and having a Spirit Necklace equipped helps a lot. Still, there's a lot of luck involved, and if you know when and how to attack then you can reduce a lot of time and a lot of pain. The longer the fight drags on, the worse it's likely to get.
It's hard to describe just how satisfying the sound at 9:39 is.

Galbalan is soundly defeated, but the threat isn't yet over.

Damn, when he catches Adol, I don't think I have ever heard Jamieson Price laugh like that. Never knew he could do that kind of mad cackles.

Galbalan's VA does an amazing job here. Gotta have that passion. And that death scream -- that's how a villain death should sound right there.

Man I love this final boss fight, it easily makes up for all the cheap attacks many bosses do throughout Oath. It was cool to hear more dialogue here!

Galbalan is voiced by Jamieson Price (Super Street Fighter IV announcer, Lu Bu, Mayor Edgar in this game), while Garland is voiced by Chris Sabat (Vegeta/Piccolo, Kuwabara, Zoro). They're pretty close, but Price's deep voice is fairly distinct while Sabat usually gets the rougher roles, Garland being an exception.

Even its not the hardest boss fight in the series, its certainly one of the more enjoyable ones.
