@@MrJWTH The Black Pearl is visibly weakened over the centuries when the Twin Goddesses sealed it after the Ys Origin. Dalles, Zava, and Darm have been revived due to the Books of Ys being unveiled and the Ore of Cleria is being dugged under the earth once again by the Esterians.
Theoretically he should have been at his most powerful, Solomon shrine was lowered to the ground so the full power of the Black Pearl and the Demonic Essence was in effect. My guess is having been sealed took a huge toll on him, there's also another X factor in Adol himself. While it's never stated out right that there's something more than human about him Adol seems to eat demon lords, dark gods and monsters of insane power for breakfast, hell in 8 he destroyed one of the pillars of the world's order. Also in 8 Maia the upper most of the trinity of top gods that rule over the Ys Universe states that Adol and his adventures are her favorite parts of her dream. All together this might suggest that Adol has some kind of divine providence behind him.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how this boss works. I just attack and hope the pearl comes out eventually. Sometimes it's fast sometimes it takes forever. Is there anyway to tell if you are hitting the part with the pearl? Or if the part you are hitting doesn't have it?

As you can see in Ys II, Dalles and Zava are nothing but Darm's loyal lackeys. They don't have much free will at all but to obey Darm.
