    Given that there's an order that you're supposed to see the story from the tears, there's no reason they couldn't have just delivered the story in that order. Every time you collect a tear, they could just show the next part. I just found it really frustrating.

    • @Gaming_Certified
      @Gaming_Certified  22 дня назад +3

      That is actually a really good idea. It does suck that they didn't implement something like that into the game. However I think since in cases the locations of the geoglyphs reflect the settings of each memory it is difficult to implement that specific version of the memory system.

      They really should have just told you explicitly where to go in what order - as is, unless you go ALL THE WAY to Hebra and go to the Forgotten Ruins and take a picture of that mural, there's literally no way to know that you're not supposed to go investigate each one you see; it's the opposite of everything they present the game to be: see thing, explore thing. I saw them all out of order, and I saw Sonia get murdered and demon king Ganondorf right at the start 😂

    • @Gaming_Certified
      @Gaming_Certified  21 день назад +1

      I appreciate your insights! It's always interesting to hear different perspectives on gaming experiences. But I don't think Nintendo could have implemented in a worse way. I do admit that all the linear-storytelling systems that people are suggesting kind of fly in the face about the whole, ''open world thing''

      @@hanburgundy4317 "all the way"? The game takes you there, with big feckin bells and whistles lol.
      Unless you mean after getting the camera fixed, but I just SS it and then wrote down the order, though really all that mattered was not seeing the last one first.

    • @daniel8181
      @daniel8181 18 дней назад

      Hard disagree, You start the game seeing events out of order (killing sonia and taking the stone was in the first 5 minutes of the game, on the wall, in center of screen) and you know all but one outcome (zelda). There is only one tiny thing wrong with how the past was presented, and that was the fact that one of the tear memories drops a single line (i think it was "ill be forever changed") OR the fact that it was called "draconification" and is explicitly "turning into a dragon"
      All they had to do was a change so small that It could actually be fixed with localization team alone, it creates either a:
      A) A near-required linearity to the story (because it introduces an element who's outcome you are unaware of)
      or
      B) An uncertainty in the result of the ritual (meaning that even if you got the last tear first, you would be scrambling for more tears to explain what zelda meant)
      a linear timeline doesnt make a story good and a non linear one doesnt make it bad, You experience non-linear stories constantly - from friends, history lessons, spoilers, wikipedia surfing, would you say you have never enjoyed those stories?

    I'll be honest I like the fact that I don't have the drive to finish neither of these games. What I like about BOWT and TOTK is that the fun never ends, everytime I get back in to the game there can be somthing new to do, a new sidequest to do, a new item to find, or just an old boss to re-beat. If I were to 100% them I could not come back to them and have fun in the same way. But your POV it's fair too.

    Your point about the story being so good that there’s no reason to keep playing once your done is a very interesting perspective that I’ve never heard before, but you’re totally right. Botw was about the world and exploration, but lacked in story, so Totk was made for a great story in mind but people would complain if there was no exploration outside of the story, so they turned the exploration up to 11, but the real focus is on the story, botw encourages you to explore everything, in Totk however, exploring everything is the players choice more so than it was in botw, and the attention was focused on the story

    • @Gaming_Certified
      @Gaming_Certified  10 дней назад

      Thanks for the feedback! I totally agree. Both Botw and Totk are exploration heavy games however Botw emphasis exploration so much that it is in the slogan of the game. I honestly loved exploring more than experiencing the story in both games because I think that is what the genre is known for? I still haven't played the rest of the 3D zelda games so I wouldn't know but I loved both Totk and Botw

  • @kit76149
    @kit76149 21 день назад +13

    I mean, Zelda has always been about saving the princess in some form? Even the little game and watch game stated the goal in it's manual is to save "Link's sweetheart Princess Zelda". It has never been solely about defeating the evil. Saving the princess has always been part of it. What happens even in the silly alttp rap ad? The focus isn't just on defeating ganon, but saving zelda and they even had the actors embrace. Skyward Sword is another example. It's odd to me to act like this is somehow new to totk, because it really isn't at all. I understand if you would *prefer* it just be about saving the world, but this series always been a take on the traditional hero saving the princess fairytale trope. It didn't start with totk.

    • @Gaming_Certified
      @Gaming_Certified  21 день назад +1

      well yes and no. Yes I do agree that all previous Zelda games, even breath of the wild, had the hero saving the princess in some form. However where I don't agree is with how there was more emphasis on saving the princess in tears of the kingdom. Breath of the wild is a great example because you are still saving the princess but you have to beat the ancient evil first. From the beginning we learn that Zelda was in Hyrule castle fending off Gannon and that she was on the brink of collapse. Yes her farther said, ''you must save my daughter'' but he also told us that we needed to save Hyrule and the main quest given after that sequence is, ''Destroy Gannon'' whereas in tears it is, ''find princess Zelda''.
      This means that my opinion isn't disproved because while yes other games did have saving Zelda as a part of the game it did so through saving the world being the main component.
      Thanks for the comment man, really did love reading you takes on my video!

    I feel the same way, though I did force myselfl through the game just to finish the story. Breaking my long standing history of 100%ing every Zelda game I played before it. (I don't count the koroks though, because if I did then I BotW is the first that ruined my 100% streak. TotK I just couln't be bothered from the outset to complete a single collection. Too much of the same stuff repeated.
    ..In the endTotK only made me feel nostalgic for older Zelda games, like Windwaker, Majora's Mask, OoT, The Oracle games. With their unique items and quests.
    I especially love Majora's mask, because every npc interaction and quests Feels consequential. Seeing the epilogues for all of the side characters was the reward itself.
    My 14 year old nephew who played BotW as his first zelda game and Totk as the second, was just a few weeks ago playing Oracle of Ages on the tv at my home and I was watching him play and he said (I'm paraphrasing) without my prompting: "These puzzles/dungeons are pretty hard and I keep dying, but it's really fun figuring what I have to do and where togo. I wish I had these cool switchable items that don't break in the new Zelda games."
    I asked him if he was going to 100% TotK. ( He did 100% Mario Odyssey and he will try 100% everything if you let him.) He said......"No, I'm not going to spend my free time being bored. I'd sooner 100% Mario Odyssey again."
    Later he was playing BoTW again. So I asked him why he was playing BotW instead of TotK. He said " I don't have to build anything and less menu stuff, also I like the puzzles better, you actually have to solve them."
    I thought it was sooooo funny that my nephew basically feels the same way as I do about TotK.

      Wow glad someone feels the same way. Tbh I thought my opinion was pretty unpopular lol. It is kinda annoying because I thought the casual gameplay of tears was really good but there isn't any real reward for 100% and if it were possible to find everything without a map I would.

    Big agree with all the points made in this video, but on top of that I have my own personal gripe with TotK that's continued to frustrate me the more I think about it...
    Despite being labeled as a sequel, TotK seems so RELUCTANT to even acknowledge not just BotW, but ANY of the previous games and preestablished lore. It makes references, callbacks, drops items meant to inspire nostalgia, but REFUSES to forge MEANINGFUL connections to anything that's come before it. It's frustrating, especially when we have Majora's Mask (a sequel that also reused assets), which directly ties itself to Ocarina of Time while still managing to stand on its own as a unique title in the Zelda series.
    TotK gives off this mixture of disdain for Legend of Zelda's history, on top of a lack of confidence as they rely on that history as a crutch for nostalgia bait. The same game that sprinkles all the old Zelda gear in the depths for no rhyme or reason, also completely erased ALL Sheikah technology from the world that had been established in BotW. I just don't get it.

    • @Gaming_Certified

      Thanks for your feedback bro! Unfortunately I am still trying to play through the rest of the 3D zelda titles so I can't really relate but you do make some valid points.

    I wasn't really surprised with the rewards from the side quests being lackluster. Heck most of the chest rewards just scattered around the world are just resource oriented so that wherever you go, you have the tools you need to succeed with just being out and about. For me the side quests were about becoming even more engaged and immersed in the world of Hyrule, and playing the part that Link always has in pretty much every game in the franchise, which is to interact with the citizens and races within that world and help them in any way he can, and learning about the people that inhabit Hyrule along the way. Many of the side quests also have various rupee rewards varying from 50, to 100, to even 300 rupees, which is valuable because the upgrade costs for the various equipment sets are pretty costly once you hit the 3 and 4 star upgrades. I'm of the opinion that the people doing the side quests for the rewards are kind of missing the point of why you would want to participate in doing them in the first place.

    • @Gaming_Certified
      @Gaming_Certified  20 дней назад

      True True. However most of the side quests that I did had pretty lackluster dialogue between the npcs. I think there should have been less side quests and they focus more on the npcs giving them as they would have made me more immersed during my casual playthrough

    I love the fact that Botw and Totk give me the feeling that the world still lives after beating the Mainquest. Twilight Princess is the best example what i dont like. After the ending and collecting all collectibles, i took a ride with epona through hyrule and that´s all. With Totk, i still start the game after 300+ Hours and still have ideas what i could do next in my given time. Yes of course, i could restart any classic Zelda, but there are also some annoying things in it, wich i dont miss anymore. Like the long lasting windows popping up when collecting an item i already know. Or the fact that i have to equip every important item over a slow inventory-menu. The puzzles itself were good, but the new physics-based puzzles in the new Zelda games are a good step in the right direction. Because shooting with an arrow at a crystal or hooking up with a hook on something to traverse over a long distance etc. can feel very limited over the many installments wich already exists over 30 years. When playing an old Zelda game like Links awakening, the thing i really appreciate more than the puzzles, is the world were i have to use my imagination to make it feel like a big world.

    I wonder how much my personal experience impacted how I saw the story. I had absolutly no issues with it, but that was because I figured out the order of things on the walls of the Forgotten Temple, then only watched them in order. I was actually super close to discovering a tear at the beginning (went to investigate the shiny spot on the ground lol), but luckily I didn't find annything. If anything I feel like they should have made my experience mandatory (or at least mandatory if you were looking for the tears) by not allowing the "tear" part in the geoglyphs to appear unless they are in the right order. They went to the trouble of including the order in the Forgotten Temple, so why not force players to use it to solve the puzzle? Or at the very least they could have included cutscenes of the tears moving somewhere to give less observant players a general idea of where to go next.

    tbh I feel like the memories being out of sync was the killer part for me since.
    firstly I kind of already speculated the zelda that was around, obviously wasn't the real zelda or she would've said something. it's out of character for her to just keep walking and not do anything. I knew from the start but perhaps its because I first, before getting all the sages, I got most of the memories by that time, and knew Ganon used a fake zelda to trick the queen
    problem is when you allow everything, you're hurting the story.....people have agreed they want to be like oblivion or fable or any other open world MMO game so badly that they forgot how to do zelda right.
    seeing how, at least in BOTW you're TOLD where to go first and collect memories along the way.
    problem with tears entirely, you're giving too much information. I can't tell you how confused I was because first she tells me to seek out the other villages and places, but problem is doing one or the other first especially with how damn easy it is to die, you're more out to want to find shrines and unlock the locations first.
    and when you're out in hyrule field now impa gives you these geoglyps where it makes you feel like that's also the next goal next to saving the villages
    problem is, you can find the memories entirely out of order. the story itself is fine for me. i feel like it could've been better, but if your third tear drop memory is the queen being killed you feel also nothing afterwards because you know the character's fate anyway and beside they're all dead by this time anyway.
    and not only does it also retcon the Rito being even alive back 10k years ago when they weren't, it jumbles up alot of the story to where it doesn't make sense in a timeline perspective either.
    not only that, why call it tears of the kingdom when really it was zelda just leaving tears for you to collect. tears of the kingdom make you believe that the kingdom is crying over something
    and just like in BOTW my problem is, there's really no give or take.
    in past zelda games there was always a sacrifice of give and take
    wind waker the King let himself drown with hyrule because of his failures and mistakes then and told Link to start a new hyrule or in the very least make a new land for themselves while Link tries to rush to hold out his hand for the king who was like a father figure. and even leaving home leaving his sibling and grandmother behind for good. sadly a give and a take. he left everything behind for the good of everything.
    in OoT Link sacrifices his childhood entirely to save hyrule, having to mature quickly, and even when Zelda trying to save whatever is left of his childhood, it's kind of too late seeing how, he goes back and soon after leaves to termina well not to it but falls into...it? lol. but thing is/problem is, it's too late. damage is done. he had to mature early on in age because of what happened.
    MM is where you have to take responsibility for sadly the sacrifices of others who sadly had died. even leaving the new friends he made along the way. to where eventually as we see in TP he had died through his eye. Not being able to carry on his skills to his decendent
    were even TP link kind of suffers the same fate, and even then some with having a connection to Midna having to say goodbye to her forever for the greater good and returning to his home.
    every Link and every story practically had a give and take leaving us to feel something. if you can feel something other than "phew thank goodness" but you can leave happy but with sorrow much like Link would probably feel, happy but sad that it had to happen or be that way; then you made a good story
    both BOTW and TOTK have no give or take
    if TOTK really ended off with zelda having to stay the light dragon protecting her people in that form/state finally being able to live up to the destiny she always wanted along with Link then switching roles to where he'd be the new "king" of hyrule seeing how he's been the one whose been helping and opening up more and more throughout BOTW and TOTK where he'd build towns up and help the people much like a king would and even holding the first kings arm the entire time making it peotic, saying it just had to be this way.
    I feel like that's better story telling then the one at the end where it's like
    OH NO SHES STUCK AS A DRAGON FOR---nevermind she's fine people she's okay
    Oh link has the arm of the first king probably fore-....oh nvm he's fine.....and for some reason shirtless again.
    that your ending is "Oh everything is fine, everything is good people!"
    then what was the give and what was the take? What was the real story besides the king and queen? Was it really about zelda or really about the King wanting to make up for his own mistakes in the past 10k years ago? Why is it even called tears of the kingdom when there are no real tears to give?
    Hell if they did a thing where like in Wind Waker Link traps him in stone but also with himself and Mineru crashing down the temple of time on top of the old hyrule castle saying none should ever go in or risk great evil being awakened, even that is a better ending to me
    I want some form of give and take there is none.....and you lose for me interest of the story afterwards and now just given just side quests and random things to do.
    though funny how you say it's too big of a game to finish
    my own friend whose beaten it all the way said he wished it were even bigger since he was done with it a month or so later with everything practically done. Saying it wasn't big enough of a game lol. then again he finds all games easy even finding the King Gleak easy saying he waits till the blood moon just to fight it again. so he's that kind of person lol

      DAMN bruh really appreciate your take on it. As a kid I never really had access to the classic Zelda games and thus never had the opportunity of experiencing them in their prime instead I had to play them a few years ago when my brain had already gotten used to HD graphics.
      I was lucky in that I didn't get screwed over by the memory questline because I was just too lazy to go find all of them. but that was and is a serious issue for a lot of people.
      I think the whole give and take thing was valid to a certain degree. However the release of BOTW was a lot about breaking the franchise's traditionally formatted sequence. Personally the whole Zelda turning back into a human at the end was a huge relief for me because ever since I learnt that she was a dragon I got really depressed. However since the ending didn't effect the in game world Zelda still remains a dragon so I think for me that's good enough.
      To your point about the title of Tears I think it was justified because the kingdom in that sense is Zelda because she is royalty and also because of the delusion since link cant tell anybody where Zelda is. This created a really interesting dynamic for me at least.
      With the whole 100% thing nowadays I am finding myself having less and less time to play games outside of for making videos because of school and responsibility or whatever. I do find it pretty funny that your friend can finish tears AND STILL WANT MORE CONTENT lol.
      It might sound like I am trying to disprove everything you said but I promise you I'm not lol.
      Anyway thanks for the comment!

      lol no problem, my guy. I AM A ZELDA JUNKIE lol
      I grew up with entirely beating OoT at a young age
      of around 7-8. So I grew up with the series.
      Shame you couldn't or didn't really bother too.
      But at least you're able to experience it now.
      Then again not everyone grows up with it, especially since not all of us got ninendo consoles. Either owning an xbox or a playstation. Some even have never played a game until better graphics came out. so that's understandable.
      you reallllly were dude. I fudged up on that one. I just
      really wanted to get the locations unlocked and while doing so I ended up just figuring "meh I see it, I can just go to it, right?" sadly there is no force stopping you. they really should open up along the way. Like perfect solution would be, every time you progress
      you see another tear drop fall from the sky somewhere opening up another memory that way it's in order. That would've been the best solution.
      I know they were trying to break the old mold, but sadly that's kind of what upsets the fans the most. Especially old ones like me saying "Not my Zelda"
      I'm all for trying to start or do something new. But even a story can still have give and takes. Not just reliefs. I then again, wasn't depressed when she turned
      into a dragon. Cause when seeing the memories luckily before then, when they even mentioned it I was like "She goin' do it ain't she?" xD and then she did it. I was
      more impressed that she was willing to do it for the good of her people. Something she's always tried to do her entire life is live up to her destiny of being a protector. someone who can help against Ganon which she does. Guess I'm just an old soul who never really had a problem with the old Zelda formula because that's what worked for it for so long. Even someone on Minds didn't like it saying they literally just did the every other open world game and slapped on Zelda as a mask to call it a Zelda game. There are so many out there who really just don't care because everything is out of order, nothing lines up, and it doesn't have the same feeling. All Zelda games were technically open world, you were allowed to explore the world. But only as you kept going so you didn't feel over whelmed. here theres just so much that why bother lol. well to most people. I am still at least playing. I haven't beaten the game just yet. Figured I'd get all the Shrines first which I'm almost done. But i can't tell you how agitating it is when you can easily die where even almost a full two rows of hearts can still kill you in two hits unlike BOTW where it couldn't. That's another pet peeve people had. to easy to die lol
      I in a sense understood the kingdom in this sense was Zelda. But I then wouldn't have called it Tears of The Kingdom because it implies the entire kingdom is crying or in moarning. which I guess in a SENSE YES they are because they can't find their princess and are panicking.
      I would've actually named it something else entirely so it doesn't sound misleading. Not sure what exactly at this moment. But that's literally what i thought and some others thought when they heard tears of the kingdom. lol. not just Zelda...leaving tear memories. If anything the only real tears of any kingdom was back then when the era Zelda fell into, that era lost both it's
      King and Queen due to sacrifice the only sacrifice int he game. It felt more like their story then anything else because in the end you're making up for the King's mistake, hell Mineru even says she was with you technically all throughout BOTW she just figured it wasn't the right time to come out and say anything yet. So it doesn't really feel anymore at this point, about Zelda or link it feels more like trying to help correct the King's mistake of a time gone by.
      And I'd actually be very okay with that, if it was in bloody order x'D but if the next game is of him or something I'd be fine, cause he literally did a give and take for his people. In his era it should be tears of that kingdom. lol.
      oh trust me my dood he works but he still somehow finds the damn time to finish everything.
      I don't know how he does it, but i know he's not lying when he tells me where everything is! x'D
      and what every item in the game does or where every shrine is or where most of the koroks are.
      and tells me to be careful in some places where the hands spawn in lol. Idk how he works either.
      people like him surprise me x"D
      oh not at all. I can easily see both sides of this. =w= all is well dooder!
      and no problem
      sorry for this long dang comment x"D
      as you can see passion of Zelda games are there in me x'D

    I personally love the game (story kinda sucks though, I’m not just glazing. I really liked the premise, but they could’ve fleshed it out SO much more), and some of these complaints just sound goofy imo 💀
    Disagreement 1: The switch is a 300 dollar console with low storage space, so they kept the file small and it drops frames when you set a field on fire or make it calculate tons of physics by attaching a bunch with Ultrahand (I personally didn’t experience nearly as much lag as it seems you have). I don’t see how lower quality is a reasonable complaint when the game itself was a fourth of the price of the console, and the console is 7 years old.
    Disagreement 2: Side quests aren’t just for rewards. Part of the reward is giving you a reason to explore, which is almost all of the game. Getting sidetracked is the entire game, and side quests are just another way to do that.
    Agreement actually: Dragon Tear order was a big flaw. I think the first one I got was Sonia dying 💀 I think they should have done things based off first, second, third, etc. tear discovered, not set memories for each geoglyph. Also, the dungeon cutscenes being the exact same was undeniably dogshit 😭 Similarly, a different cutscene with new details and a twist or two based on how many you already completed would’ve been nice. Also, “secret stone”? Really?
    Disagreement 3: Quantity over quality map. I half agree. Lots of the smaller sky islands are straight up useless 😂 But, also, some have maps that lead you to the depths for more items. The depths is largely barren, but that’s kinda the point. If you want to farm Zonaite, bosses, and enemy horns/materials, go to the Depths. If you want more Zonai-based puzzles and the armor pieces up there, check out sky islands. The surface is the same shape, but with all the caves and alterations, I think it’s still worth exploring, and I still found myself getting lost despite my 400 BOTW hours. That’s not as much as other people obviously, but still.
    Disagreement 4: There is like 4 times more content than BOTW 😂 I think people more just got so addicted to BOTW that they exhausted the systems in their entirety, and since TOTK wasn’t literally 100% new, it felt somewhat like their past 2000 hours, and thus made the experience kinda boring. It is definitely super hard to 100%, as there is a tttton of new content, but I personally think going for 100% is a detriment to the game. They don’t throw all of that in for it to be 100%ed, it’s so that you can NOT 100% the game and STILL feel strong enough to not get oneshot by silver enemies. If you want to spend that much time going everywhere, that’s a choice you can make, but the game, just like BOTW, is specifically built to have an *excess* of things to do so that missing things isn’t a problem. If you look at the “requirements” for experiencing the game as intended, it’s closer to maybe 60 shrines, ..18? memories (dunno the number), 4 main quests, like 20 side quests/adventures, and a great final spectacle. I mean.. your reward for getting all the korok seeds in BOTW is a piece of shit. Literally. They don’t give you any incentive to 100% because that’s not the point of the game. Pictures are more for the sake of “where does this thing spawn?” and the shiekah sensor. Koroks are just for a bit of inventory and mini puzzles around the world for a quick dopamine hit. Heck, you max out your inventory like 500 seeds in anyways.
    Overall, I get where you’re coming from, but I feel like most of these complaints are from misunderstanding the point of the game in the first place. It’s like if you say the world’s best chocolate cake is bad because you personally don’t like chocolate. You’re not wrong in your own perspective, but you’re also looking at the situation in a way where it can never possibly fix itself in your eyes. A chocolate cake can never be good enough for you because you simply don’t like chocolate. Similarly, if you want to 100% TOTK, it will definitely feel bloated because it’s meant to have 2/3rds of its content overlooked every playthrough, which is what gives it replayability. I’ve never 100%d BOTW, and I feel like I always find new things every time I play a new game. TOTK is supposed to be the same in that way. Gunning for 100% does the game a disservice.

    Tbh, I didn't even finish TotK. Why? Because after the couple first hours playing it, I sadly unlock the "Story" of Zelda being a Dragon... So yeah, it spoil everything right away , sadly.
    Another thing is, it is stil basically the same as BotW. TotK shouldnt have been on the surface, but in the sky and in the depth, but both were empty. To be fair, I spent most of my time in the depth doing a lot of "nothing"
    This isn't a popular opinion, but for me, BotW and TotK are Great games, but not good Zelda games. I still have no motivation to go back to TotK, right now. That's what is sad.
    Even today, I will take my Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask cartridge, put them in my N64 and play them. They are still the best Zelda games out there and in my list, they are #1.
