Bro, as some one whom is riding with a dad getting up there in age I really appreciate you including him. My dad was my OG riding partner years ago.. and still is. Love your videos
Just wanted to expand on my thoughts of Riot vs Assault. The Riot is capable off trail. It can definitely accomplish the off trail aspect of being a 50/50 sled but personally I find the Assault does it all a little more easily. I think with the 1.6 you can really enjoy a riot especially if you've never ridden an Assault or Backcountry, you wont feel like you're missing out. As someone said in the comments the best way to compare them is business vs rowdy the Riot does its job but the Assault does it with a little more ease and can be a bit more playful overall. Thanks for watching!
Suspension was full stiff but the skis were not narrowed unfortunately. Kind of a last minute storm so I didn't get to adjust them. Thanks for the support!
Would like too see you hop on a backcountry one of these videos and do the same video going back and forth with the assault curious as to what you will think. I know the backcountry is more offtrail focused on paper but alot of ppl say it still handles very good on trail. I guess its mostly preferance but it would be cool to get your take on the two. Great job as always man!
I have a 2018 800 assault 2 inch track and my buddy has a 2019 backcountry x 850 2 inch track. We swapped on the trail and we came back a bit flabbergasted. I felt like his backcountry felt good but more planted less nervous and he felt the same way about my assault. I felt like my 800 had better throttle response in low rpm and he felt his 850 was punchier from the low end. So basically the sleds felt completely diffrent but kind of arrive to a similar result. I did feel less ski lift in our small swap time but it was cut short from the belt of the 850 letting go while I was driving!
My dad and I are waiting for our 2021 riot 8000 and thundercat 9000 to come this fall. Its gonna be my first sled so I cant wait! was wondering though, we are gonna be doing 99% trail riding since were in Ontario and thats pretty much all we have, but how often do you encounter wildlife on the trails and have close calls on the trails?
Nice congrats on the new sled! Should be perfect for you type of riding! Little extra capability off trail when you want it an a incredible trail machine! Not too often. My dad has had a close call with a deer jumping over his hood. Other than that they seem to stay off the trails for the most part.
So I'm looking in2 getting a new sled and have always riden arctic cat but the old style my last sled was a 99 thundercat sold it a couple of years ago been lookingbat the 2024 riot but am Def not brand locked on my decision what do you think is the best all around sled in the 800 class for comfort reliability and handling?
This is not intended to be a dig at cat and I know some people would disagree but the 800 ctec is an underwhelming 800 class engine in my opinion. I’ve had 800 liberties, 850 patriots, 850 etecs, and now a boost and honestly the power of the 800 ctec never wowed me. If you’re not concerned with power I’d say the procross sleds are a great option for comfort handling and reliability. I’d probably go with a 137 over a riot (slightly better on trails manners and the riot is not a very playful crossover sled anyway) but that being said the riot is one of the best handling crossovers on-trail that I have ridden. I’d only recommend a 137 because they’re a little more glued to the snow and have less inside ski lift. I saw your other comment as well and based off having had the riot for 4 years I’ve often thought about trading it for a thundercat so personally I would go that route. In my opinion these are the best sleds in each category Crossover - 850 Assault Big bump sled - Lynx rave RE Groomed (smaller bump) trail shredder - doo XRS 850 Lake racer/long ride sled - thundercat (or even SRX but the clutching and track options on the thundercat are slightly better IMO)
@@Revrider550 wow thanks for that reply I have commented on many vids and never gotten even a small reply. I’m on my way to check out the thundercat there’s one only 1/2 an hour from me in barnstead went and looked at it the other day, but they were closed. I could see it through the window then I’m gonna head to Laconia to the Polaris dealer and check out their sleds as well they also carry Yamaha. I did notice a big difference when you were on the riot in the powder and then yours on the powder yours the skis were right on top definitely seemed to be a big difference between the two sleds. I’m 55 and unfortunately a little on the heavy side I won’t be going off trail and will do a lot of lake riding if the lake ever freezes it’s January 17th and lake winnipesaukee hasn’t even fully caught yet half the lake hasn’t frozen..will be interesting to sit on these sleds for I have never riden the rider forward sleds b4. I’ll put a couple of videos on my 5 subscribers channel lol if you’re interested later.. thanks again
Sorry about that! Comments can get lost in my notifications so I have to go looking for them at times. Nice! My dad loves the procross chassis and is around the same age. The Polaris chassis is definitely a bit more rider forward and more active of a ride. It handles better the more you move around on the sled. The procross will handle better if you shift your body around but it’s not as necessary to make it handle “well”.
I use sony action cams. The AS300v. They have optical image stabilization rather than the digital image stabilization the Go Pro's use so it uses less battery and they dont require adapters to plug in a mic. Congrats on the new sled man! Hope you like it as much as I like mine 👍
190 no gear, zollinger racing makes a set of offset spindles as well but I went for the MTN side products from the start, I have my clickers two up from the middle (cant remember how many clicks that is total) and I have 3 turns of preload taken out of my shocks from factory settings, I have c&a pro XCS's
Tried the Riot finally...no way that thing is in any ways comparable to my Assault. Not off, or on the trail. Biased maybe..but..at the very least you've found some redeemable qualities on it. Eager to try the Riot X w/ Alpha.
I'm thinking hard about ordering a 2021 riot x... I have heard from a few people that the alpha rail isn't all that bad on trail. Hope it's like a 70/30 off trail bias.
yeah off trail you need to stand much further back and use much more throttle input to get the sled on edge. On trail I don't notice it as much but compared to the G4, and the Axys its definitely the largest sled when it comes to the cowling etc.
arctic cat is now just picking straws to see what buyers want more power from a engine that needs more cubic inch there suspension needs the coupling blocks removed to be even with the assault by not being coupled or put the ALPHA on the trail riot then it will tip and lean like the assault right now they are different
@@Revrider550 true. But I would also add that if you wanted the crazy carving, and wheelies, I would look into an xf8000. But I have heard people aren't as impressed with the c-tech2 800 vs the old suzuki 800s.

I'd love to do that! Unfortunately I only know one guy with a Backcountry but hopefully I can get a ride in with him and give a review.
@@Revrider550 you should comme ride in New-Brunswick and do a Vlog!
So you felt the assault transfered weight better? Which one did you like more or was more fun to ride?
Those old rev’s were a lot of fun , they just weren’t great once the trails went washboard. I don’t miss mine lol
For sure! I also just havent been on a 121 in a while. It was quite the experience in the whoops, fun in the twisties though!
Looks like you got to have some fun out on the lake in alittle bit of some fresh pow!! Crazy that the right couldent get on edge like the assault can

What are you seeing for mileage on your 850 assault I have a 19 xc800 and only see about 10 mpg and wondering if the 850s are better
I'm typically seeing a little over 13 but depending on the ride I can see as much as 15 mpg

Lol...if you mean it isn't comparable on trail as in the assault handles like shit then yea I agree!
@@scottcarter7 Nope, not what I meant. I like the aggressive ride of the Assault, you may not...your opinion.
If you want to make the cat pop up on the snow remove coupling blocks and then it will squat more like older cats did back in the 90s
Thanks! The Riot has the cross action skid though so it's already uncoupled. Appreciate the suggestion though.
Can you really feel the weight difference? I think it's about 70-80 pounds?

Yes it is 👍
Awesome Video as usual
Thank you!

2 completely different machines! The riot has a wider ski stance. Try the alpha vs the assault. More apples to apples comparison.
The polaris is a Switchback Assault not an RMK Assault. It has a trail width front end as well.
