I found my dog at a skydive dropzone near Houston while on the road last winter. She turned out to be pregnant. I live in a 20' travel trailer and I was slowly making my way to the desert of southern California. By the time I got to Arizona, it had become alarmingly obvious that she was pregnant. Thankfully, a rescue in Phoenix saw my plea for help on Facebook and lined up a foster to take the dog and raise the pups. I went back to pick her up three months later and continued my road trip with her sans puppies. This winter, I'm living and working at that skydiving facility, so she's basically back where I found her after a year on the road.
What an awesome full circle! That's so awesome that you were able to find the support that you needed to care for the dog and pups when you couldn't! Sometimes the internet really comes through! -J
You take Trinity to the dump station! 🤣🤣🤣 i'll have to keep that in mind next time. But our little pup, Olivia, is pretty good about going if she runs into gravel. I don't know what's attractive about that but maybe that's what her backstory is, living on gravel. (She was turned into a high-kill shelter because the family hadn't bothered to fix her and she got pregnant and they dumped her, saying they had "too many dogs". Go figure… She had the babies, they were adopted out, they fixed her and put her up for adoption at an SPCA in a different part of the state near us that has a higher adoption rate. (And a shoutout to the good people who work in high-kill shelters for the hard work they do to try to get those animals out and into loving homes. It's a tough job.)
Oh my gosh! I think all RV couples should watch and learn your videos. They tell a story without all of the boring and random rambling. Really amazing editing and bringing the viewer along for the ride! Plus I LOVE the Trinity rescue story. Send to The Dodo. Will be watching every week!!
If there ever were a comment that I was going to frame and hang above my dresser...it would be this one. But I don't have a dresser. Thank you so much for your kindness. We work hard to make sure we show real life while also keeping it entertaining and interesting. When someone tells us that's what they are seeing it means the world. -J
DOG TIP when you take her out as soon as you start to get to where she needs to potty tell her "potty" (any word is ok) Tell her a few times when she does go get excited. 🎉 Tell her" good girl" in a happy voice praise her. She will eventually learn what that means. Build the habit now since she's learning the rv routine.
I love that you guys not only kept Trinity but are being excellent and responsible pet owners. You saved her life. Seriously, think about where she would be without you. Probably hungry and thirsty sleeping in the dust under a tree. You two rock! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
She didn't even have a tree 😭. She was sleeping in the grass by a culvert. Some of the workers had been feeding her scrap food for a month before we arrived. We're so glad she's part of our lives now. -J
@@OpenRoading..My Lab would go nuts if l put a rabbit next to her! It’s good that Trinity is so chill! I also use the same medicine for my girl and it works great. She’s never gotten fleas, ticks, etc.
@@ajf5823 I hope the meds work as good as they have for you! She had 3 ticks within 1 week but I'm sure it takes a while for the meds to fully kick in. We're away from grass now so less chance for the ticks too which is nice. -J
Trinity is your new Director of Subscriptions! Like others, I subscribed when you adopted her. You guys are great and I'm glad i found you. When are you crossing into Canada on your way to AK? We're hoping to go this year too, but from NC.
Director of Subscriptions. 😂 Love it! We don't have exact dates just yet. Kalyn just ordered last years milepost book so she'll be making plans over the next couple of months. Basically, once the weather is good enough to get into Canada we'll go explore a couple of their national parks and keep working our way north! -J
I subbed because of the gorgeous little girl Trinity. Love her name btw. I’m super invested in her story, and want to know everything Trinity related. Side note: I’m not sure if you guys are aware of this or not but I’m commenting just incase. Truck stops are FANTASTIC options for dumping, and they are easily accessible along most highways. Also, I do know that Loves has been updating quite a few of their stores, adding RV spots. So if you’re unable to find a place to dump your trash, just hit up one of the thousands of truck stops along the interstate. Love your channel, love that you’re believers, and super love Trinity ( and Cody too) give them lots of love and snuggles for me. 😊❤
This video told me what I thought I already knew about you guys. Praise God for how He works things out. The joys of dog ownership. Our baby flew out the door two days after we adopted her. Someone was driving by and saw her by the side of the road and picked her up. We posted everywhere and then contacted them and picked her up the next day. She ran away a second time but we were able to chase her and grabbed her. My husband got to carry her home. Lol I just love how you make your videos. I love learning and watching the videos is a learning experience as well as getting to know a sweet couple. So excited to be watching. Thank you for sharing your lives.
That dog is pretty incredible. She even won me over and I still don't consider myself a dog person...but as I type this she's asleep by my side on the couch and I couldn't imagine it any other way. -J
Just started watching you folks, 3 episodes so far, love the content, you're a perfect math together! I was thrilled to hear that you believe in God and trust his guidance in your lives. Safe travels, gate guarding, and may God bless your RUclips content!
Thanks so much and thanks for taking the time to watch some of our past videos! God has always been good to us, through the good times and bad, through our smart decisions and not as smart decisions, He's always there. -J
LOL at the bunny just chilling in the backseat. We had a dog and a free roaming ferret at the same time. They got along great. So glad Trinity and Cody(sp?) are, too. Dogs who find us are the best. Our pup was found wandering a big city. He is such a sweetie that the policeman who found him called a rescue that we volunteer for, and asked if they could find him a home. Since it was December 23, the rescue asked us to foster him just through the holidays, and then they’d find him “permanent” foster home. He walked into our house, looked around, and decided that he’ll take this one. :) He imprinted on us SO fast, he became our Christmas miracle and is the best dog. You can absolutely train them to go when commanded. Our dog does. I wonder if she’d still pee near the patch if you dug it up and replanted it outside your door. God does handle everything. Hasn’t dropped me yet! I wish you wouldn’t stress over the post time. I owned a marketing agency for 25ish years and used to be the same way about issuing e-letters at the recommended times. Years of data told me it never mattered that much. IME, people watch videos around their schedules. I watch them at 11pm every night, before sleep.
"God does handle everything. Hasn’t dropped me yet!" Nothing is truer than that. And even when we think He's dropped us...usually it's simply because something didn't go the way we had it planned out and He had something else in mind. Re: the post time - we kinda like the idea of hearkening back to the old TV era when families would gather and watch something at a specific time. I do know we have a few people who do that with us every Friday night - so I really want them to be able to keep that routine. BUT - we will be taking a week off of posting soon in order to get 1 week ahead in our production schedule to reduce our own stress a tiny bit. 😁 -J
Trinity will be the BEST dog u ever had. Rescues off the street WILL B incredibly loyal/thankful to u. I have 2 that i rescued off the street, and they DO NOT leave my side
I can affirm....at 41 years old...Trinity is the best dog I've ever had. Granted, Trinity is also the first dog I've ever had. 😂 I'm 100000% with you on rescue animals. Both Kalyn and I worked with a Rabbit rescue (fostered dumped rabbits and until they got adopted into new homes) which is why we took in Trinity to begin with. She just figured that she was part of our family instead of wanting to get adopted though. 😁 -J
Thanks so much. Means the world to us even when people watch our videos in hit-or-miss fashion. Honestly Trinity won not just our hearts but the hearts of the internet as well. -J
Your channel is growing because your video editing is so good! I have done some of that & it takes serious skill to get cuts that good & overlapping audio over other video. Transferring the story line between the both of you throughout the video and making it seamless is very high skill & you guys will be making 100% of the Alaska fund in a single video down the road 💰 Happy to see a better gate job opened up, this one seems soo much better!
"you guys will be making 100% of the Alaska fund in a single video down the road" Let's talk about setting high expectations.......... 😂😂😂😂 We're very excited that we are starting to see a small income from youtube (more on that in a future video). Kalyn has literally dreamed of getting paid to create travel content for yeaaars and I'm so happy that we may be able to make that happen in the future. -J
Love your videos. Hoping Trinity is not pregnant 🤞🏻 She is such a lucky dog, that you all have large hearts, and the willingness to take her in and give her a forever home. A load of puppies when you’re living full-time in an RV would be a true challenge! Hope that your new work Camping gig turns out to be a good thing for you.❤
Thanks for adopting and keeping Trinity. Getting her checked for heart worm is very wise. We rescued 2 that ended up with Stage 4 heart worms and the treatment is NOT fun or cheap. Also, in regards to your comment about the 'dog waste' being forever stuck in a plastic bag. The diseases that dog poo carries is scary. If no one ever picked it up in public places, you would not be able to walk or be near the smelly mess. Just a little FYI.... stay safe and good luck in your endeavors.
Yeah, We are so blessed that she didn't have any medical issues. I'm totally with you on cleaning up after your pets. I'm thinking based on a few similar comments that my attempt at humor didn't come through. 😂 I just think it's funny that our culturally accepted solution to dog waste is to seal it up and ship it to a landfill where it's of no use to the soil. Seems like there could have been a few other options but that's the one we settled on. 😂 -J
@OpenRoading I kinda understood the humor...my apologies for not sharing the 😆 to express my understanding. YES there should be another way because the plastic is probably more of a problem than the contents. We can't solve all of the worlds problems... -C
Started watching your videos when you found Trinity and subscribed.Truly enjoying them, thank you for sharing your life and experiences with us. Hope you consider getting Trinity spayed before she goes into heat because that's not fun.
I've considered that and I should probably do more than consider....but we have always tried to avoid night driving anyway and not having proper lighting makes it less of a temptation. 😂 But...that can also get us in a bind like we had on this particular trip. -J
So glad you kept Trinity she is a really nice dog. It looks like she has had a litter, but you should be able to get her spayed soonest. Vet can do a quick progesterone test.
So glad you adopted Trinity. If you tell her poopy and/or timkle then reward her it will soon become her habit. Our pup is 7 and we still praise his tinkle & poopy. Also we prefer a harness when traveling so we can tether him in the truck in case of an accident. Best wishes!
Another good training tip is make her site and wait by the door until you release her to come out. Then she won’t just dart out. Little by little just keep adding distance and time eventually she will get to the point she will sit by the open door with you guys a distance from the RV.
Working on that! If you have any tips for keeping her attention after the reward let me know. At the moment the second she gets the "good girl" or the treat she is instantly on to the next thing. Treat for sitting? boom up and walking away. 😂 -J
I haven't looked far enough through the comments to know if someone has suggested getting a dog "seat belt"/ harness. It's so if you have an accident or stop suddenly the dog doesn't become a flying projectile from the rear, and it keeps them stable on rough roads, and I think they actually appreciate them.
WoW...that is a sweet gig ! My wife and I worked for J&G Security in Texas for 24/7 Yes at a Frac site for $200.00 per day. Through Christmas and New Years... And it was the gate from Hell !! Average a truck every 4 minutes... and 30 to 40 trucks at the same time during two shift changes, every day. No that didn't include sand trucks we just waived them through...That was our 1st and last gate guarding job... BTW Anchorage is our home base...
Oh wow! Yeah, that's exactly the type of gate we did NOT want and why we said no to so many. There is zero chance I would have been able to edit our videos and that Kalyn would have been able to work on her business if we had been at a gate like that. This job is a 1 in a 1,000 job I'm sure of it and I am thankful for every day that it continues. Maybe we'll see you in Alaska later this year unless you're down in the lower 48 in which case we'll pass each other. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I spent 30 yrs on the inside of those gates all over the world. I ran frac sites in the EF. I know who is a proper gate guard and who isn't. If you're not willing to give 100% to the job, stay out of the patch. It's a matter of national security in the EF, particularly when fracing with all the alt-left cultists running around. Not to mention the drug mules and criminal illegal aliens wondering about.
Drawer retainer: From the leg space under the desk, drill through the cabenet into each drawer, then put pins with some kind of pull loop into the holes when traveling. Could be anywhere along the length of drawers. Towards the front for easy access, or at the back out of the way where pins could be left sticking out when not engaged If you want something more automatic: you can buy push button latches, but it would be a bigger project with more expensive hardware that you would spend a while tracking down.
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing the video making and editing process. There is a reason certain channels do better than others and the passion that you guys put in video making and editing is the reason you guys have a great channel that I really enjoy watching. Looking forward to your next videos.
did you guys know that you can get an "electric collar/fence" that will center on your phone and does not need a physical wire for the perimeter. also ... have you seen handbrake?? it will let compress the video ( you get choose how much compression ) to allow better upload times for youtube.
I have heard of one of those and not the other! So I've got to experiment with handbrake sometime, my concern is I know youtube compresses it so I've always wanted to give them the best quality possible because I don't want compression on top of compression. For some reason I have always struggled with getting crisp video from youtube if I do anything less than the big guns. That said, I haven't specifically used handbrake. And I had never heard of the app for the dog. That's pretty interesting. -J
Just found this channel today, it is one of the best channels on RUclips. I have now watched 8 of your videos, it’s now 5 am I’m going to bed will watch more when I get up in the morning.
Regarding the desk drawers: if you can make it work with the shape of the desk, an exercise strap around them top to bottom would probably do it. It’s like a giant 3” wide rubber band.
@@OpenRoadingI had the same idea, but I thought of some of the downsides for that...🤔 So another similar idea would be to make a fabric velcro strap (with the velcro positive on the fabric) horizontal on the left and right sides, and then put a small piece of wood (felt or something on the back so it doesn't wear off the paint, or something similar) on the side facing the drawers.
@@LloydsofRochester Thanks! I think Kalyn is going to attempt something with magnets that was suggested on here. She really doesn't want to put anything on the outside to spoil the clean white aesthetic she has going on with it. 🙂 -J
14:45 So, add some Auxiliary Lights! Here in Michigan, pickup owners who attach snowplows in the winter have raised headlights which illuminate beyond the light-blocking plows. I don't like to drive after dark as much as I used to, but extra lights make night driving safe. Edit: What will make a huge difference with Trinity is taking a specific hour each day to work on training for her. One critical thing to work on is getting her to return to either of you immediately, without pausing or indifference. A second is training her to lay down, and stay, no matter what is going on. I'm so glad that you decided to keep her, she seems like a real sweetheart!
It's funny you mentioned that about Trinity - we just started working on this today. We had been working on sit and laydown commands but she is VERY bad when it comes to coming when called. So we literally started working on this today. It's gonna take a while I'm sure because she is easily distracted but we've got a game plan! Lights - I've considered them, and may spring for them in the future. At the moment we just prefer not to drive at night so it's nice not to have extra stuff. That's always our number 1 thing when it comes to adding things to our gear is that we then have another thing to store somewhere when not in use. -J
No waste tank: I have been living in my 19' Roadtrek for quite a few years, so I've been dealing with the small waste tank. Try to find a way to put an overboard dump on your shower drain. In a place like your gate, just let it fall on the ground. The sink water will fill the gray tank slower than the black water tanks fill up.
Just want to say it is refreshing to see rv content creators that don't have the newest and greatest RV and truck. Showing you can do this on a budget. We are just getting started and bought an older Jayco Designer series 5th wheel, and truck. Great job, thanks
We hope to either give this one a facelift someday or get a "new to us" one (I don't think we'll ever drive a spankin' new one off the lot). I appreciate the comment because sometimes we feel a little embarrassed by the peeling decals. 😢 -J
I did hospital based night shift nursing for 40 years. When a someone started nights and asked for suggestions I always said I used a fan for the white noise, black out curtains or eye shades and to try melatonin. ( The melatonin helped me fall back asleep if I was awake (had to go to the bathroom etc) and still had time to sleep.
Great tips! I generally struggle with restless legs but for some reason during this season I have had very little trouble getting to sleep. I think it may be because I cheat myself out of some sleep time every few days to run errands or do some filming but I really don't mind those days because the next morning when I go down, I go down HAaaaaaard and I love it. 😁 All that said - respect for doing this shift for 40 years...I cannot wait to be on a normal sleep schedule again soon. -J
That's great that you mentioned God, more people should! 🙏 In case anybody doesn't know the gospel: 1Cor 15:1-4, Rom 10:9-10,John 3:16 God bless you and yours and all my brothers and sisters!😇
We’re planning an Alaska trip this summer also! It certainly won’t be cheap. We’ll be mostly boondocking and staying in state and provincial campgrounds. Maybe we’ll see y’all up there!
Soooooooooo….. if Trinity isn’t spayed…. Definitely don’t let her have off leash time in a non-fenced area. (It is way too easy to wind up with a rogue male in an area and then wind up with puppies!!!! 😳😅) That being said… you are doing a GREAT job of being dog parents!!!! Trinity clearly already trusts you and sees you as being “pack” for her. ❤ Once she is no longer capable of having puppies, get back to enjoying that off-leash time! 🎉❤
Where we are right now...I don't think there is a dog within a country mile unless we count the occasional coyote. 😂 We are going to get her spayed very soon. -J
in order to Keep your drawers closed. Screw an eye loop in the top front face. (may need one lower too.) You can just drop a wood dowel rod through the loops. I use wood spoons in my kitchen handles.
Thanks for the tip! I think I'm going to try a couple of the other suggestions in here first because while this one is super effective...it requires putting a hole in her desk and I think Kalyn is going to want to avoid that if possible. -J
lol. I just find so much humor in some of the things we do as humans. Like...of course no one wants to step in poop. Clean up after your animals. But the solution we as a culture came to was to bag up poop and send it to landfills. 😂 -J
The dog and rabbit is a friendship miracle. 😌 That would never happen with our dog Rolo. Our dog took chase on a rabbit and we couldn't find him for 20 min.
Oh no! I'm glad that didn't end up worse! Yes...we consider ourselves super lucky that they have gotten along so well. It was our primary concern in adopting Trinity in the first place just because we didn't want to cause any issues for Cody to deal with. -J
I like that you have Jesus in your relationship. The Lord definitely has his hand in our lives. Enjoy the journey. Life is what happens as we plan for the future.
I just starting watching your videos about gate guarding! There is something so warm and loving the connection you two have as a happy couple. Your video is refreshing and interesting. Trinity took my ❤️ Hope all works out with her.
Thanks so much! I've heard comments are great for views, to be honest, I just love interacting with everyone on here! So much encouragement it fills my tank each week. -J
I bought a Ryobi battery air compressor- it looks like a hand held drill, and yes it will air up a large tire with ease- I love my Ryobi tools, I have others and some corded tools, I even have a 1/2 horsepower air compressor with a 50 ft hose, but having to plug it in and wait for it to build up pressure- when all I have to do is put a battery in it and go, Love it, lol. Yepeee- haha-
That stop is such a beautiful overlook! I'm a little sad because it seems to be getting a little litter-y. Next time we go through I'm going to have some extra garbage bags with me and not be in such a hurry. -J
We have the same drawer setup from IKEA. To keeps ours closed during travel days we screwed on small 'D" Rings, one at the top and one on the floor and hook a small bungy chord to them when travelling. Hats off to you for adopting Tinity.
It's a really great idea! I do think Kalyn wants to figure out something where we don't add anything to the outside of it. We have a couple of thoughts we're working on. We tried child locks but they didn't fit. -J
Get a pair of road legal driving lights and mount them on the lower part of the motorcycle rack with a quick disconnect. That way you have good illumination when you have the rack mounted. You could also mount some fog lights if you wanted to go all out. Just make sure they are aimed correctly so you don't blind oncoming drivers.
I'm strongly considering this. The lack of lights has made it less tempting to drive at night which is a plus, but it also causes needless driver stress (me) when we run into situations like this one. -J
I'm so glad I found your channel because you two seem so down to earth and looking forward to seeing your journey, watched the last to and can say yay trinity
Thanks so much. You have no idea how much of a compliment that is. We want to show real life while also providing you with some laughs along the way. 😁 -J
Could you put a tension rod between the floor and the edge of the desk to keep the drawers closed. I couldn’t tell if there was a lip on the top edge of your desk. They make curtain rods that small
Not a big enough lip unfortunately. But I'm in the process of working up something with magnets. Kalyn really wants something that doesn't add something to the outside look of it. -J
Uhm the editing is 10/10 & yall took the dog, how can those of us that found you via the algorithm & yt pushing yall not subscribe 😂🤷🏼♀️😜 KEEEP ON GOIN!!!
Thank you so much. I don't know that I'd go full 10/10 - there's a lot of people out here that I have a lot to learn from - but I soooooo appreciate the compliment. The algorithm has been working overtime this week and we're very grateful! -J
Thanks for the tip! We tried the magnet ones but they don't fit unfortunately. I have a solution now that's related...just have to make the time to install it! -J
We love your videos! It started out just me watching and then I told my hubby about you, and now it's our regular routine, thank you for working so hard at making such impressively stunning videos! That does sound like the perfect gate guarding job! Divine Providence is no joke! What a wonderful blessing! 🙌🙏🙌 It is so cute to see Trinity and Cody get along so well!🐕❤🐇
Being part of anyones regular routine is the highest praise. Thank you. It is indeed hard work, but comments like this genuinely make it worth it. If you go back a couple years on the channel (I don't recommend it 😂 ) The comments were always crickets and it had a lot to do with why I burned out from creation. But back then we weren't creating things that interested people. This time around we realized with the help of some dear friends that what people wanted to see was just real life...in an entertaining way. And ya'll have just been so encouraging along the way. -J
It's also the quality of your editing and the smoothness of transitions between frames And how you make every episode like a multifaceted story. You really do an excellent job... And I am picky, I only subscribe to a few RV channels.🙌
Please don't worry so much about your upload time. Life goes on. Relax, im new to your channel and growth comes from many places. Shorts, lives and videos. Your subscribers long term won't care if your hitting you upload time exactly. Give yourselves some slack.
I really do appreciate this. For me you have to understand that we flamed out with youtube twice before. And by "we" I mean primarily me...as the editor. There is a lot this time around that is different, including a crazy awesome community that has developed around the channel. But one of the things that I'm doing that's different is I'm treating this as a job. I worked in local news in a previous life and we HAD to hit our time slot...and I RARELY missed them. But for some reason I would make excuses for youtube and we'd post a day late...then two days...then a week....and then full flame out. So this time around I decided this IS my job and as such, I want to pull in the attitude that I had with my old news days, I want to hit my time slot. 😀 Nope - not the end of the world if I miss it, but boy do I feel a lot better looking back and saying "Hey - I've hit my goal for X number of videos." -J
@@OpenRoading yes, I get it. I too have been hit or miss. I have MS. and a host of other medical issues. I used to belong to a charity and on the board of directors. I had to leave them. I no longer agreed with the issues I saw. Because of this I "by my choosing" deleted every video I had posted with them. 3 years worth of my hard work flushed! I am basically starting over. I had and probably will have months of operations and recovery time off from posting. It has hurt our channel, but I know I can come back. We are doing better, but is a long road! Just keep up, keeping up! I'll be watching!
We Need To Find A Way To Hook Up Your Bike to the rear of the camper. One to alleviate and balance the bike on it. I'd put the bicycles if possible on the front to give your headlight the best view. With the tire, take some soap and water to see pinhole location could be a simple plug job and get a tire repair kit which might be better to take tire off wheel at a shop and have it patched from inside. But if the hole is on the side wall, then replace it because it can cause a blowout. Love the content Your Veiwer, Lcpl. Brandon Rice USMC RETIRED
Thanks so much. The rear of the camper is only rated for 200lbs and I'm afraid that even if I upgraded the hitch that I could severely damage the camper frame by putting that much weight hanging off the back. We're just gonna continue to try not to drive at night. 😂 As to the tire, we found the leak back in September (I didn't film it) with the very thing you mentioned. It actually took me forrrrreeevvverrrr to find it because the leak was exactly that tiny. It was the tiniest of pinholes in the sidewall. So tiny that you had to sit and wait for it to blow a bubble. Like..it wasn't evident right away. Because it was so small we kept our eye on it, never running soft between then and now because we wanted to change all 4 tires at once as close to Alaska as possible. Welp, as you'll see in an upcoming video...that time has come and no fears of blowouts anymore! And the truck looks a little meaner with its new treads. 😂 Thanks so much for watching and commenting! My favorite part of this whole youtube thing is the comment section. I worry how I will handle it if we ever get to the place where I can no longer respond to everyone. It would be a good problem to have, but it would make me sad. -J
Great tip! Thank you, unfortunately in our case for this specific set of drawers....no handles and I don't think the counter top comes out enough to get a good grip with a tension rod. 😭 We did get tons of suggestions on here though! Ya'll came through in the comments section. -J
Whoah! 😳 I can't begin to describe how fast one wakes up when they get out of bed walk around tired then pull up their phone and this is the first notification. Instantly awake. (reminder I'm working 7pm-7am so I sleep at weird times...I'm not sleeping in till 2pm on a random saturday. LOL) Sir....wow. Thank you. It's unreal to me your generosity for a couple of random people working their way through life and attempting to document it. -J
LOL -- I think the SAME THING every time I deposit a poop bag. More plastic -- yeah! But you gotta follow the rules. Trinity is a great dog -- I really hope she's not pregnant.
I think we have confirmed that there are no pups. Yay! Still making daily plastic deposits though. 😂 And I'm so glad you caught my attempt at humor. -J
good for you about your job. God is looking down at us If we believe God Bless you two. I myself got lucky after eight years of teaching Jr. High Ba;nd, my nerves couldnt take it. A job opened teaching fifth graders strings. i took it and did that for 26 yrs. I was so blessed. You both need to enjoy each other and enjoy your wonderful llife like I said Gpd Bl;ess
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I think one of the main things about the goodness of God I've had to learn and relearn is when you're slogging through the waiting you just have to keep trusting that He knows best! -J
Yeah, We tried one solution but the pieces were too big. I'm going to try to rig something up with magnets on the inside...just hoping I don't have to take the entire thing apart in order to do it. -J
Enjoy seeing your progress every week.. if you’re late in the future just rest assured I will always support and watch when it is ready. No pressure.. a just breathe and enjoy one another.😊
You have no idea how much I appreciate this. As the channel grows there's a little bit of self-imposed pressure that we have to get them out at a certain time. We also don't want to "flame out" and get fickle with our posting schedule. So for the time being, expect a new one every Friday at 8pm Eastern...but when in doubt, check our channel header where I update when the next video is scheduled to go live! -J
Aweeeeee. Trin & Cody are chilling together. Ticks are so strange to me, as we’ve never had to worry in San Diego and now in AZ. Our adopted pup found roaming the streets of Anaheim, CA has never even needed flea meds. Best wishes with that & best wishes with work. Back to video! 👋🏽🤗
Yeah, we traveled for 4 years with no ticks...then I actually got a tick bite last spring in Indiana and we found 3 other ticks in one week. It was crazy! Now Trinity seems to attract them. We're hoping the meds keep them away or at least keep her safe. -J
we kept ours from opening by putting a screw in the top, and one in the bottom, and stretching a sall bungee cord from top to bottom in front of the drawers.
Best to get that tire fixed unless you can determine it's a "Bead Leak". If the puncture item finally works itself inside the tire, you never know what type of damage it can do or how big the hole is left.
Got away with it since September with constant monitoring (when I say slow leak... the thing barely blew soap bubbles and took me absolutely forever to find) but we finally got our Alaska tires this week! -J
We have family in San Antonio, San Angelo and live down by Corpus Christi, got kind of excited by you all being in the neighborhood. The weather has not been kind the last few days, hope you guys have warm cloths.
Just went back and watched a beet harvest video. I lived in Minot ND for 4 years, good thing you guys got the heck out of that state before the weather got really cold. Also, I see you went to Michigan. We have also lived in Michigan. If you go to Florida, you will have been in all the states we have lived in. I don't understand why anyone would want to travel to Alaska, but I'll be watching.
Look for “rare earth magnets” they will help keep your desk drawers closed. Use some hot glue or Gorilla glue to hold them in place. They are very small and extremely strong……also hows your pet rabbits eye doing? In video looks like meds are helping.
Thanks so much for the tip and thanks even more for asking about Cody. ❤️ The meds are primarily pain meds and he does seem to love taking them so we have kinda a drug addict on our hands. But with them he's pretty much his old self which we have appreciated even though we still know time is most likely limited. -J
Simparica trio is awesome. My GS has been on it since a pup, and it's been awesome. Shop around for the best deals, chewy, your vet... Trinity is blessed to have yall! Great job on the video. I'm glad i found yall again. I saw yall back when you were leaving MI and hadn't seen anything since. Keep hammering God will provide and your living it❤!
Good to hear! And thank you for the tip on shopping around. Sometimes you just assume the vet is getting you the lowest price and we've been burned a couple of times with that in the past. We were just lucky to have an amazing vet in Florida that either gave us the meds at cost or with a tiny markup. -J
You two are cool. We have done gate guarding and the beat harvest. You need to check into Boondockers welcome and harvest host. Great overnight camping and sometimes a few days very cost effective. We are not full timers but use the Boondockers when we travel. We are also host. Meeting wonderful rivers hope you make Alaska. Just found you today I’m hoping you can stay warm while this arctic blast is go on. Safe travels
Boondockers welcome is great! I think we looked at it and their either wasn't something available in the area or because we weren't sure how long we were going to be in limbo we wanted to get somewhere and not move until we had our next job. One of those two.... We're surviving the cold so far! You'll get a full report on it in a future vid. 🥶 -J
@@OpenRoading there is 5400 Boondockers welcome and harvest host sites across America they are two separate businesses but under the same ownership ! When join there is an app ( of course) you have to do a bio on ourselves. The host also does a bio. The host has right to approve or disapprove. Depending on what’s going on with their life’s. Myself I have let rivers stay even when we were not home. We are between st.Louis mo and Springfield I’ll. On the mother road Route 66. I believe Boondockers welcome is $89 for the year and harvest host $139. Don’t hold to the price I’m just a host and traveler. The nights camping is free but if we supply elect we ask for a $10 donation per night. If you don’t use electricity it total free. Harvest host host have products to sell example a winery would expect you to buy a bottle of wine. But the camping is free. When we stayed at Walmart we usually buy something there. This just gives you a lot of opportunity for another way to have a nights camping and to meet people. Oh my other suggestion is to get an extra fuel tank. I have an extra 90 gallon tank so when I find a good price on fuel to load up for the long hauling travel days. Also do you use Mudflap discount card ?? Also the TSD card that gives you discount fuel at certain big truck stops. These have saved us money one time and it depends on the day and price but I put in 365$ of fuel and got a $65 dollar discount. I just found you and I am enjoying your channel. Be blessed
I found your channel initially through the video about how you optimized your YT channel and, although I’m not a YTer myself, I watched because it was really interesting. Then of course more of your videos showed up in my feed and now I’m very invested in your story. I mean I’m a dog person so obviously Trinity 😂. Your videos are so well edited and you’re both very personable. This might end up being the only channel I watch regularly. Of course I want to see you guys go to Alaska because I did the trip in 2019 and I’m looking forward to seeing you guys discover it and watch the story unfold. Highly recommend Glacier to Banff to Jasper up the AlCan to Denali and then back on the Cassiar Highway. If you can get to Denali in the fall you might get lucky enough to win the road lottery and drive the 92 miles into the park, which would be a once in a lifetime experience. You could even enlist your followers to enter to help you win. 😉
I'm so glad you stuck around! And thanks for all the tips. I'm going to have to look into that lottery system (although so far we haven't had much success with any access lotteries we have entered. 😒) -J
I just checked the site and due to a landslide at mile 43 😢 looks like no lottery for the foreseeable future but definitely still worth visiting and the Denali Highway (Route 8) is truly spectacular.
Ah! Well...we wouldn't have won it anyway. 😂 We are doing Denali - and possibly a flight around it. We'll see. Gotta make the most of that Alaska budget!@@MelloCat80 -J
The kid latches that go inside the drawers work great for that!!! We are headed to Alaska, too!! We will be there in May 2024, maybe see you there!! Trust me on the kid locks, great for cabinets as well, and cheap at Walmart!! Safe & Happy travels!!
@@OpenRoadingso glad you adopted that dog. She’s a fine addition to the family
@@jeffconley819 She is indeed!
Love your kindness. ❤
DOG TIP when you take her out as soon as you start to get to where she needs to potty tell her "potty" (any word is ok)
Tell her a few times when she does go get excited. 🎉 Tell her" good girl" in a happy voice praise her. She will eventually learn what that means. Build the habit now since she's learning the rv routine.
Thanks so much! Lots of training going on but we hadn't done any sort of rewards for bathroom behaviour! -J
She knew you were her people! Animals usually know first! @@OpenRoading
She "stole" Kalyn's chair day 1. I think she stole her heart just as quick. -J@@summerzandrew
Trinity KNEW her family had arrived to give her a much deserved forever home❤😂
The rabbit and the dog in the back seat is hilarious!
Cody rarely jumps up there so we were both shocked! Pretty sure they were both over the potholes! 😂 -J
Please forgive my ignorance if you are well aware of any suggestions I mentioned above. I’m only 2 videos in so far lol. 🥴
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment. We certainly make use of every public garbage can we can find! 😂 -J
My last dog came to us randomly too. He was a great dog for 12 years. My best friend. I hope you experience the same with Trinity.❤
I think the chances are very high, she's already very special to us. -J
As long as u keep the dog I’ll stay subscribed 😊
Well prepare to be subscribed for a very very long time then. 🙂 -J
Lol
I just love how you make your videos. I love learning and watching the videos is a learning experience as well as getting to know a sweet couple. So excited to be watching. Thank you for sharing your lives.
Thanks so much. I'm quickly becoming a believer that the dogs that drop into your lap can change your life. -J
Trinity got me to subscribe with tears in my eyes.
That dog is pretty incredible. She even won me over and I still don't consider myself a dog person...but as I type this she's asleep by my side on the couch and I couldn't imagine it any other way. -J
Congrats! God does provide!
He does!
Hasn’t dropped me yet!"
Nothing is truer than that.
You had me at Trinity !!
When introducing 2 pets, especially ones of different species, them ignoring each other is the best outcome. Anything beyond that is a bonus
They do really well. We're so happy about it! -J
I'm 100000% with you on rescue animals. Both Kalyn and I worked with a Rabbit rescue (fostered dumped rabbits and until they got adopted into new homes) which is why we took in Trinity to begin with. She just figured that she was part of our family instead of wanting to get adopted though. 😁 -J
kinda watched y'all hit or miss...on the fence. Then I saw how your treated that beautiful dog. I'm a subscriber and supporter.
Transferring the story line between the both of you throughout the video and making it seamless is very high skill & you guys will be making 100% of the Alaska fund in a single video down the road 💰
Happy to see a better gate job opened up, this one seems soo much better!
"you guys will be making 100% of the Alaska fund in a single video down the road"
Let's talk about setting high expectations.......... 😂😂😂😂
We're very excited that we are starting to see a small income from youtube (more on that in a future video). Kalyn has literally dreamed of getting paid to create travel content for yeaaars and I'm so happy that we may be able to make that happen in the future. -J
Definitely fantastic editing!😊
Love your videos. Hoping Trinity is not pregnant 🤞🏻 She is such a lucky dog, that you all have large hearts, and the willingness to take her in and give her a forever home. A load of puppies when you’re living full-time in an RV would be a true challenge! Hope that your new work Camping gig turns out to be a good thing for you.❤
Thank you. It's been a couple weeks since we filmed this one and we are 99% confident there won't be any pups! phew! -J
@@wheelepicadventures Indeed we cannot. lol So until then...I shall dutifully (pun intended?) send Trinitys #2 to landfills around the country. 😁 -J
Started watching your videos when you found Trinity and subscribed.Truly enjoying them, thank you for sharing your life and experiences with us. Hope you consider getting Trinity spayed before she goes into heat because that's not fun.
Thank you so much! Spay is on our schedule, we just wanted to make sure there weren't already pups in the oven first. -J
"most compatible rv couple in the world."
Thanks! We have our moments for sure but after 17 years, I think we're gonna make it! -J
You can get headlight relocate kits that are used for snowplows and mount the headlights up higher and would shine over the motorcycle
Getting her spayed is on our to-do list! -J
So glad you adopted Trinity. If you tell her poopy and/or timkle then reward her it will soon become her habit. Our pup is 7 and we still praise his tinkle & poopy. Also we prefer a harness when traveling so we can tether him in the truck in case of an accident. Best wishes!
Working on allllll the training. Thanks for the tip! -J
So happy for Braxton
I haven't looked far enough through the comments to know if someone has suggested getting a dog "seat belt"/ harness. It's so if you have an accident or stop suddenly the dog doesn't become a flying projectile from the rear, and it keeps them stable on rough roads, and I think they actually appreciate them.
Thanks for the tip! -J
BTW
Anchorage is our home base...

Frac sites are not for the lazy.
@@bennettjones9696 interesting inference that the other gates are for the lazy.....
I love that u show how u can work and live ❤in ur RV

Glad you enjoy it! It's always a fun crossover when our "behind the scenes" makes it into the feature. 😂 -J
Drawer retainer: From the leg space under the desk, drill through the cabenet into each drawer, then put pins with some kind of pull loop into the holes when traveling. Could be anywhere along the length of drawers. Towards the front for easy access, or at the back out of the way where pins could be left sticking out when not engaged
If you want something more automatic: you can buy push button latches, but it would be a bigger project with more expensive hardware that you would spend a while tracking down.
Thanks for the suggestion!! The youtube comments section came through for us! -J
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing the video making and editing process. There is a reason certain channels do better than others and the passion that you guys put in video making and editing is the reason you guys have a great channel that I really enjoy watching. Looking forward to your next videos.
Thank you. We weren’t sure how far to go “behind the curtain” but it’s part of our life so…do we even have a curtain? 😂 -J
did you guys know that you can get an "electric collar/fence" that will center on your phone and does not need a physical wire for the perimeter.
also ... have you seen handbrake?? it will let compress the video ( you get choose how much compression ) to allow better upload times for youtube.
Don’t go back too far!!! They start becoming less interesting!! 😂
Thank you so much for those amazing compliments! -J
Regarding the desk drawers: if you can make it work with the shape of the desk, an exercise strap around them top to bottom would probably do it. It’s like a giant 3” wide rubber band.
Yet another good suggestion in the comments! Thank you! -J
@@OpenRoadingI had the same idea, but I thought of some of the downsides for that...🤔
So another similar idea would be to make a fabric velcro strap (with the velcro positive on the fabric) horizontal on the left and right sides, and then put a small piece of wood (felt or something on the back so it doesn't wear off the paint, or something similar) on the side facing the drawers.
@@LloydsofRochester Thanks! I think Kalyn is going to attempt something with magnets that was suggested on here. She really doesn't want to put anything on the outside to spoil the clean white aesthetic she has going on with it. 🙂 -J

Thank you so much and thanks for coming back to watch our new videos! -J
At this particular gate, they have us dumping all our gray on the dirt and then they come pump out our black when we need it. 🤷🏼 -J

Yep! She's got one now! -J
All that said - respect for doing this shift for 40 years...I cannot wait to be on a normal sleep schedule again soon. -J

Soooooooooo….. if Trinity isn’t spayed…. Definitely don’t let her have off leash time in a non-fenced area. (It is way too easy to wind up with a rogue male in an area and then wind up with puppies!!!! 😳😅)
That being said… you are doing a GREAT job of being dog parents!!!!
I sort of agree with the comment regarding "stuck in a plastic bag" is very true. I'm glad all of you animals are getting along well together.
Absolutely. I've found that His hand is always there, in the good times and in the bad. -J
@@OpenRoading Amen my brother. Amen. God Bless you and your Wife, the pets. You and your crew will do great . Love, perseverance, faith .
I just starting watching your videos about gate guarding! There is something so warm and loving the connection you two have as a happy couple. Your video is refreshing and interesting. Trinity took my ❤️ Hope all works out with her.
I so appreciate that compliment. We are a normal couple working through life together 🤗. Trinity's the best...she's rules the fam now. -J
What a nice beautiful dog you rescued ❤
She’s pretty amazing -J
They say comments help so here's my comment. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 You deserve it love your videos and anyone who will help a homeless animal deserves the best ❤
Yepeee- haha-
Thanks for the rec! I have it on my list to get a few battery operated tools over time. Right now I have like...3 things. 😂 -J
Super nice job with this vid. Love Trinity and the rabbit... and the rest area night stop was still gorgeous.
That stop is such a beautiful overlook! I'm a little sad because it seems to be getting a little litter-y. Next time we go through I'm going to have some extra garbage bags with me and not be in such a hurry. -J
traveling dog tip: Don't relieve Trinity at rest stops. The amount of dogs that go through there make it easy to catch something. :-)
Fair enough!
Child locks on the drawers, i think. I just recently started watching, Trinity pulled me in :)
Thanks for the tip! We've got a lot of good ones in here to choose from. The comments section came through BIG! 🙂 -J
Time doesn't matter! ANytime it comes up is fine!
That is a really nice gate you got, congratulations! Hope you get to follow that crew and keep the 12 hour live on site deal.
RIGHT?! Like....1 in 10,000 opportunity! The road here sucks...but it's like it's own theft prevention system built in! -J
Could try the toddler safe drawer clips to hold your drawers closed.
Thanks for the tip! We tried the magnet ones but they don't fit unfortunately. I have a solution now that's related...just have to make the time to install it! -J
Your videos are terrific. My wife and I watch you and can’t wait for the next video. You are entertaining and informative. God bless you all.
Thank you so so much. I'm glad you find them fun! -J
Try putting an eye hook at the top and bottom of that drawer cabinet, then hook a bungie cord to hold the drawers closed.
Thanks! Loving the ideas coming in on this. -J
@@OpenRoading I actually saw another video, where they made their own straps, to match their decor. So, not my idea, but happy to pass it on.
Many roadside parks in Texas with restrooms have free public wireless internet. You can stay 24hours in those roadside parks.
Oh that's awesome! When it comes to roadside parks I think it's hard to find another state with more of them available than Texas! -J
I think its so awesome that Trinity adopted you.
She did indeed!
Thank you so much. I don't know if anyone can top that praise for the day. 😊 -J
You guys are awesome thanks for always putting God first be blessed
Thank you so much 🙂 -J
God is good…congrats.
All the time! Even when things don't turn out the way we hope. -J
Love the content Your Veiwer,
Lcpl.
As to the tire, we found the leak back in September (I didn't film it) with the very thing you mentioned.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! My favorite part of this whole youtube thing is the comment section. I worry how I will handle it if we ever get to the place where I can no longer respond to everyone. It would be a good problem to have, but it would make me sad. -J
We also have a dog that loves us. Thanks guys.
Trinity is such a good girl!
Praise the Lord! God will clear your path. ❤
To keep my drawers closed, I run a tension rod through the handles (top to bottom) and wedge it between the floor and the countertop.
Great tip! Thank you, unfortunately in our case for this specific set of drawers....no handles and I don't think the counter top comes out enough to get a good grip with a tension rod. 😭 We did get tons of suggestions on here though! Ya'll came through in the comments section. -J
Thanks!
LOL)
Sir....wow. Thank you. It's unreal to me your generosity for a couple of random people working their way through life and attempting to document it. -J
At the least you guys show normal travel
For those pesky drawers there are numerous solutions found on van life videos. Magnetic options aeem the easiest.
Enjoy your time together nd with you newest addition. Hoping the best for you and your time in Alaska this summer.
My wife and i have gate guarded since December 2019. We have covered west and north Texas. Thank you for rescuing Trinity.
That's awesome! Do you do it seasonally or year round? We're in west Texas now...bracing for the cold snap. -J
We do it year round. Currently in the Hereford TX area. Also preparing for the cold.
we kept ours from opening by putting a screw in the top, and one in the bottom, and stretching a sall bungee cord from top to bottom in front of the drawers.
I like this idea, but I think we're going to try some of the child locks because we don't want to put a screw or eyelet on the outside of the desk. -J
Portable sod block for pup.
So far she's been able to find a spot everywhere we go! -J
I have you admit after 3 videos, ya'll have become my fav RV couple! Actually, my other favs died or stopped posting so you became favs by default. 😂😂
OH NO!! I mean...I'm glad we are your favorite because there are a lot to choose from. But the circumstances for how we got there 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 -J
To get those drawers to stay closed, use command hooks and a bungee cord(s).
Thanks for the tip! -J
For your Alaska trip and vet bills 😊 wishing you luck!
Thank you so much. That's so incredibly kind and generous. 🤗 We are so looking forward to this adventure! -J
The meds are primarily pain meds and he does seem to love taking them so we have kinda a drug addict on our hands.
I'm so happy for you two!!!
Thank you! We really scored a very amazing gig.
In the amazon cart! -J
