    I was a geologist for USGS, and spent about a month down there back in 2004, doing fieldwork in Big Bend. Simply one of the most marvelous places I've ever been to, and was where I actually saw the shadow from starlight as John Denver said in his songs! It's that dark… :-) Do yourself a favor, folks who haven't, and visit Big Bend before you die!

    Love your channel! I also love Trinity! As Rottweiler owners and lovers, it is obvious that Trinity is part Rottweiler. We have been told by many campgrounds that our Rottweiler wasn't allowed because they have breed restrictions (due to insurance). Please always list Trinity as a mixed breed if you ever have to register her at a campground, and just avoid the word Rottweiler. :) Also, clean her ears regularly, as they are prone to ear infections. She seems so happy and loved. Best dogs ever! Thank you for saving her!

    Just a little tip in case you don't know this hack for stripped out wood screw holes. Always keep some wood matches and/or especially some wood tooth picks to add more wood to the stripped out holes. The wood matches add more mass and stronger wood while the tooth picks act like shims to add more tension and strength to the repair. Just stick them into the hole as far as they will go and break them off at the woods surface. If the wood is broken and coming apart around the wood hole, covering the matches and tooth picks with wood glue before sticking them in and waiting for the glue to dry can repair that too, but it is better to drill a small pilot hole for this repair before adding the screw to keep it from splitting the wood more. I hope this helps with some future repairs. You wouldn't believe how many times I have done this for door hinge screws stripping in the door jamb, but also cabinet doors after someone decided to put their weight on the door and OOPS!

    In regards to getting dog hair off of furniture or your truck seats and carpeting use a pumice stone. Walmart has them for like a dollar or something. Best thing for dog hair. I’ve got two boxers that travel with me in my jeep and it’s the only thing that gets their hair out of, the back carpet and off the seats. Arriving in the dark is no joke. We have the same rule and so far I think we have only had to do it one time. PS I love that you had the closet door incident on camera, the look on Joe's face is priceless. We have the same seat cover for the cats in our truck, It has worked pretty well, but I thought it was "waterproof" and on the couple of occasions that the cats got sick or we spilled something, it went right through. Where did you find that massive drill?!? Lol
    I laughed when you were showing the plastic piece you saved for years & were so happy to have a spare. Then you pull out a drill that could blast through boulders 🧨 to screw it in. Best scene of the video Lol
    I like the drone shots too! My drone was super cool until it got froze with software updates (Dji Mavic Air)
    Your rabbit is pretty cool too, he didnt get enough air time eating that apple. You guys should time lapse him devouring veggies & incorporate that in 🥕

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  7 месяцев назад

      😂😂😂 You don't know how funny that is because I talked about the drill a lot in the video but we cut it because it got boring. But I was talking about how I don't have a ton of tools but you MUST have some sort of a drill/screw gun. 😂 I just happen to have a giant one.
      The plastic piece has a backstory as well. My initial 3d print lasted like a year. And when it broke I had a friend print me 2 more - but they have broken much quicker and I believe it's because I printed with PLA and he printed with ABS which I think is less flexible. But the snap....couldn't have been more perfect. 😂
      As to the drone...software updates with any technology always scare me. 😱 -J

    Maybe add headlights to your motorcycle rack. There are bolt ones meant for semi trucks. I added tail lights to mine. If you have both a 7pin and a 4pin connector. Plug them into the 4pin so you can just unplug them when you want to take off the rack. Most of them even have integrated turn signals.

    You pronounced Chisos perfectly! ;-) It is a gorgeous place. We spent a month at Big Bend Nat'l. Park a few years ago. We also did the South Rim and it was pretty grueling as you have a 2,000 incline and decline coming back. So we will differ on that, but it was great to do. Glad you showed reality as most RUclipsrs don't and it tricks a lot of people to jump into the lifestyle and being ill-prepared for the reality. Thanks for making this episode.

    Your 3-d part may need to be printed in a different orientation so that the layers are perpendicular to the force that is exerted on it. Also you may consider a different plastic type that is less brittle / more playable. You would have to investigate plastic types that your printer supports. Possibly the best solution may be to see if you can get a direct replacement from the Rv manufacturer because those would be molded plastic not layered extrusions. Still that was excellent work that you recreated that.

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  7 месяцев назад

      My first part lasted a year (PLA) and I had a friend print these two parts and they were ABS and I think that was the problem. The way it was printed shouldn't have left a weak spot there other than the fact that it's a thin point. Live and learn! -J
