So very sorry for the news you received. Pets add so much joy to our lives and losing them is so very hard. Glad he is feeling better with the pain meds. The hardest part of living is saying goodbye. So prayers for you both as you go through this trying time. I lived in Anchorage for 20 years about 30 years ago. It’s beautiful but expensive. Totally worth it. Thanks for sharing your lives with us. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your kindness. In our 16 married years we've had to say goodbye to 2 pets and it just never gets easier. Since our videos are always a little behind real life I'll give you a quick Cody update. He is still enjoying traveling with us and actually enjoys taking his meds which is good. While it's sometimes tough to realize that our time with him is limited we genuinely are enjoying every day we get. Hopefully we'll get to see your old home state in 2024. -J
@@brittneygriffin Cinder passed this past summer (2023) She was a trooper, got an ear infection and then another different infection common with rabbits back to back that left her with permanent head tilt. But she acted like it was normal for 5 more years. She lived to be 8 which is average for Rabbits and we didn't think she'd make it to her 3rd or 4th birthday for a while. Miss that girl. -J
Thank you so much. He's still bringing us joy every day as he hops around and begs for his bananas. (I think we are about 2 months down the road from when this was filmed.) The only progression that we have seen is that he drools more than the dog, but that's to be expected with where the tumor is. As long as he remains happy on his pain meds we're going to give him all the love we can. -J
I’m thinking Trinity came into your lives at the right time. Between my wife and I we’ve had a lot of pets in our lives. It’s hard to know they won’t be there forever. Just give Cody all the love you can so his life will be as happy as possible.
I am so so sorry about Cody. And I can empathize. In October 2017, we adopted a neglected 10 month old yellow lab mix. After about 2.5 years of training, love, patience, he was starting to enjoy being a safe, loved, secure dog. In June 2021, his face swelled from a bee sting, so we took him to the vet, and that was resolved quickly. The bloodwork still concerned the vet, so she did further testing. Bottom line, he was born with kidney dysplasia, and based on his numbers, he had about three months to live before his kidneys shut down. We made the same decision. We could have tortured him with hospitalizations, fluids, dialysis, etc. Instead, we took a road trip, made all yummy homemade meals for him, spoiled the hell out of him, and said our final goodbyes in August. It was the worst grief I ever felt, mostly because he had JUST started really enjoying his life. We have consoled ourselves with the fact that he did know so much love for 80% of his short life. I’m so, so sorry.
I'm so sorry you had to experience that road. The grief is always so hard because they have such an impact. 😭 We just lost Cody's buddy Cinder this past summer so this felt like such a gut punch in November. We feel soo blessed to have had 4 months (and counting) with Cody taking his twice daily meds and hopping around the RV like he owns the place. We don't know how much time we have left but are grateful for every day. -J
My beloved senior cat had squamous cell carcinoma and it came on fast with no warning. He started drolling heavy and was in a lot of pain. I had to make the painful decision to have him put down. I feel for you both and pray for Cody. Give him all the love you can❤
I'm so so sorry for your loss. We experienced similar with our first rabbit Twix. We took her in for a checkup and a within a week we had to go through the same painful decision process due to a tumor growing across her windpipe. 😥 Loss of pets is such a difficult road to walk. -J
So sad to hear the news about Cody. He is just awesome as his parents are too. You both have given him such a wonderful and loving environment to grow up in. Love your channel & the fun that you all have together. I am going to pray with all that I have for peace and strengthen as you all go though this.
Thank you. Much appreciated. This diagnosis was last November and we feel blessed that he's continued to love his meds (we call him our little druggie 👀) So far his quality of life has been quite good so we're amazed we've had him for this long. While we know he won't be with us forever, we're grateful for the past 9 months and however much longer we get. -J
I had an English Spot that got cancer at around 9y/o. It was aggressive, the vet talked us into the surgery, they took out the mass but didn't get it all. It grew around into his chest cavity, crushing his lungs. If I were faced with a similar dilemma today, I would not have opted for the surgery. Poor thing was fighting the cancer and trying to heal from the surgery in the last week of his life. Pain on top of pain, never again.
I'm so sorry. 😢 I completely understand why you made that decision and it's so incredibly hard when you're faced with the thought that maybe the surgery will give more years. I'm so grateful the vet we had was very open and honest with us through all of this. He's still taking his pain meds and we're just loving on him every single day. It's also nice to have another person in the comments section who has a heart for rabbits. Thank you so much for being here. -J
I'm so sorry to hear that. That would be absolutely devastating any time of year, but through the holidays had to be particularly tough. We'll give Cody an extra hug today for you. He's still taking his pain meds and we're hoping he stays with us a while longer. -J
So sorry to hear about Cody. Pets are truly members of the family. Thank you for sharing and being real. It’s what I love about your channel. Prayers for all the members of your little family🙏🏻
Thank you so very much. We are always a few weeks behind in posting videos but he is still providing many smiles and we are still giving him lots of love. -J
We just lost our 14.5 year old Labradoodle this past July while we were in Valdez, Alaska. We adopted him at a shelter when he was 9 months old. Definitely, one of the most painful time in our lives. There was only ONE vet in town. And we knew our dog was slowing down, but the fantastic vet told us that its better to put them down too soon vs too late. That struck a cord with us to make the decision. We miss our Dookie so much, but, we know we made the best decision knowing how awesome of a long life he had. He'll always be with us no matter what. God Bless.
I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your🐶 . It’s so hard when it comes to that decision with a pet, we’ve had to make it twice including once this past summer with Cody’s other half, Cinder. I do kinda agree with that vets advice…too late is aweful but I also don’t like the idea of too soon. So hard. 😭 Thank you for sharing. We really do appreciate you. -J
I've been binging you guys as I try to catch up on your past and history and have ran across this video. So sorry to hear about Cody. These kinds of pet things are so hard to deal with and handle even though we all know that they're coming. Our thoughts and prayers are out to you guys
Thanks so much. This was shot back in November and we feel lucky to have had so many more months with him. So far his meds seem to be keeping him on track and enjoying life which has been such a blessing. We know time is limited but we cherish every day. -J
We had to wait several days before we could record that section. We wanted to give ourselves time to process. Thank you for your kind encouragement. -J
So sorry about your rabbit. My daughter and grand-daughter had a rabbit. Rabbit Stu was his name. My input. Sorry!! He got scratched by their cat which formed an abcess. Finally found a vet who would see him. His comment was he is just a rabbit put him down and get something else. I’m an RN so I treated like he was a human. Drained abcess kept it open it channeled through his ear. But after weeks of treatment with peroxide and debreedment then packing with Desitin. He healed and died severa❤l years later of old age.
I'm shocked the vet said to put it down. A lot of people don't realize how hard it is to find a good exotic vet and your story confirms that even more. So glad you were able to give it the care it needed. As to the name, I chuckled. I'm not sure Kalyn would. lol The care you gave it matters so much more than the name though. -J
I’m so sorry about your rabbit. We went through something very similar. She was 11 1/2 and I found a tumor in the back of her mouth. They biopsied it and it was cancer and she was given 3 months. My friend’s dog was diagnosed with the same cancer but it was in a more operable spot (our’s was not)…but to remove it meant to remove half his lower jaw. He did get over a year longer than my dog did…but he couldn’t eat or drink on his own anymore. It was heartbreaking but she at least got to leave this world pretty pain free and otherwise healthy. Enjoy your time with him. You will have so many good times to look back on which, in time, will be what you think about.
One thing I love about the online community is that you're rarely alone in your experience. Thank you for sharing your story = while you never want people to go through pain, when you're walking through it there's comfort in knowing you're not the only one who's walked the path. -J
So very sorry to hear about Cody's diagnosis. 😢 My family and I have lost some pets to cancer over the last 40 years. It is never an easy decision to make for your fur babies on what treatment to take. Praying for you all ❤
Thank you so very much. Our other rabbit passed this summer which made this diagnosis extra painful, but, now being a couple of months beyond that diagnosis we continue to be grateful for every day we get with him. I also believe that even though it won't at all be easy when he's gone, knowing it is coming has helped us value our time. -J
So very sorry to hear about your rabbit, you actually made me cry,its hard to loose a family member , my apologies for my last comment about over spending, dumb statement when I don't know the facts, I'm retired and always wanted to do that kind of lifestyle but my wife refuses, but thanks to you 3 I get to enjoy watching
Not a problem! It's hard to convey every thing on a youtube channel so of course some things are going to get lost along the way - and of course not everyone sees every video. And on top of that...there is a lot of garbage on the internet where people are trying to make a quick buck or worse, scam people out of their money. That's why we specifically do not ask for money. This channel is about our journey and this series of videos is about us working hard to turn Kalyn's biz around to dig us out of our own hole and hustle with side gigs to earn money for Alaska. 😁 Glad you enjoyed watching! Our story is similar, I didn't want to do RV life but Kalyn did! It took her several years and watching a few youtube channels together for me to be convinced. Just goes to show you a dog wasn't the first thing she convinced me about. LOL -J
Glad you stuck around! I encourage you to consider that it's not always the right thing to adopt a pet...you have to make sure you are ready to commit to it for life before you say yes, otherwise you end up with a pet dumped along side the road. Sometimes the right thing is to get the pet to someone who is equipped to find the animal a better forever home. I'm only adding this in here because there has been a lot of "the right thing" in the comments and it bothers me that people could be shamed for rescuing an animal but not adopting it because it wasn't right for their situation or they weren't capable of providing the home the animal needed most. -J
Awwww....so very sorry to hear this news about Cody. I am glad though you were able to find a vet that could help him and was straight about your options for treatment and she prescribed pain meds to help him cope. Our pets are family, and it is so very hard when they are at the end of their lifespan and we have to say goodbye to them. Just know your subscribers are here for you guys. Prayers and best wishes for the holidays and good job on getting that roof patched up. Big virtual hugs to you guys and to Cody!
Roof has worked amazing since we coated it in a video 2 after this one. Cody is a trooper and we have both been super amazed that he has stuck with us this long (this video was shot last November) -J
I've just recently found you guys. I love my fur babies so so much. I was a vet tech for many years and have worked with 1000s of animals. I still have great love for them and I appreciate that in you both. I'm down to 1 cat 1 dog my packs have all left my life but not my heart! God bless you and your furbabies.😢
So very sorry to hear the news of Cody's health. It is a very sad thing to go through this waiting journey. May you have as many happy days with Cody as possible and then celebrate the love and happiness he provided to you during his life with you. I love watching your videos and learning the ups and downs you have during you full time RV life. My husband and I have been full time RV'ers for the past year and we could not have done it without y'alls help and guidance through your videos. Thank You for being there. Hopefully we will see you down the road sometime soon. Happy Trails Y'all!!!
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. They really do mean so much. I have to chuckle just a little when you say that you couldn’t have done RV life without our videos…on a video where I’m showcasing how I don’t know how to maintain an RV all that well. 😂 Hopefully you’re learning from our mistakes along the way! -J
On a lot of alloy rims they leak around the rim where the bead of the tire and the rim touch it’s like the chrome wears off , you can run your fingers around the inside of the rim and if you feel a rough spot where the chrome pealed. Off, that’s the leak spot, tire must be put back on with special glue ( temporary fix) or replace rim
Yeah - rim was my first though but I was able to locate the leak back in September. It was a literal pinhole in the sidewall. So small it almost didn't even blow soap bubbles. But watching it for time and it kept blowing them...one by one...verrrrrry slowly. -J
That's sad about your bun bun. I've had rabbits through the years and they are such sweet pets. I also had a pet turkey that got sick, took her to the vet and they discovered she had cancer. A year ago I lost my little dog to cancer, she was 15. It's hard to get that diagnosis, you feel so bad for them. My priorities in life are people, then pets, then money....if we adopt a pet, it's our responsibility to give them the best life we can provide and that includes medical care. It's nice to see you love and care for your pet, so many don't.
Sorry to hear about your rabbit we had lost both of our puppies on our full-time journey because they were 14 when we started, losing them just about killed us, there was no way we were gonna be able to share that on RUclips. It was just too emotional. We have a new puppy now, and we are very happy to have her in our life now. But even after over a year I miss my puppies, larry
The hole from a lost pet never quite goes away. We actually lost Cody's companion Cinder this past summer so this news was extra hard coming on the heels of that. He's doing well all things considering. Just gave him a banana piece so he's happy. 😊 As far as sharing on youtube I have no idea what we will do when the time comes but generally we are a few weeks behind in posting (for example this video was recorded mid November) so we should have the ability to step away from filming if need be and still maintain our posting. I don't like thinking about it though. -J
After having a female rabbit suddenly die of uterine cancer (we didn't even know about it)!) I sympathize. It's hard. They don't show pain in ways we might recognize, and they don't live long anyway, but at least YOU know and are able to keep him more comfortable in the time you have left.
It one of the things that shocked us about rabbits early on is how quickly they can go downhill. 😥 He's doing pretty well on his pain meds still but we know it's only a matter of time. -J
@@OpenRoading I'm so sorry. We also had another one die quickly for different reasons. My daughter decided it was too painful for her to go through (in the span of a comparative handful of years), and now has a tarantula in her home instead.
Sorry for Cody. I completely understand. I’ve spent $10,000 on a dog for surgery that they said she would not last for for 3 months. Ended up lasting 9 years. I recommend you call Rv armor and they can put on a new roof for way cheaper then the dealership will do and it’s a lifetime warranty. Just a thought for when the time comes. Enjoy your journey, and take care
Oh I'm so so sorry. 😢 We've gone through that twice in our life together so far with a 3rd on the horizon with Cody and it never gets any easier. Praying the good memories slowly ease the pain. -J
Dont worry.. we appreciate All updates..We,re rooting for you...take your meds so less pain..THE CIRCLE OF LIFE...Then we,ll all find each other,,as I m 75....I have alot of fur babies waiting for me....WE LOVE YOU ALL..
Thank you. It certainly doesn't get easier. We lost a rabbit earlier this summer (Cody's other half) and we've had one other rabbit in our 16 years of married life. It's amazing how much room they each take in your heart. -J
You won't be far from Winnie,Texas. They have a real good Vet. That's where we take, Sadie. There is also a free city park in that little town that offers free full hooks ups. We have stayed there as long as a two week stretch. When you Get to Winnie, you're only about 30 minutes from Crystal Beach where you can camp on the beach As long as you want there are no limits. And it only costs a ten dollar permit that you can pick up at any store.
Awww thank you so much! It’s easy to let people get under your skin sometimes but we feel nothing but love from this community! You’re amazing and we’ll pop your super thanks right into our Alaska fund! THANK YOU!! -J
Thank you so much. We are enjoying the days, weeks, and hopefully months, that we still get with him. Our videos are always a few weeks behind (they take some work to put together) but Cody is still hopping around the RV and taking his meds like a champ. -J
I'm currently watching on TV, the roof, yikes. I'm so excited to see you make it to Alaska. I know you all will make it there. I'm so sorry about Cody, I haven't gotten to that part and not sure I want to. They aren't just our pets, they're family. I had a rabbit named pandora, who turned into pandor when he started marking his territory. He went to live on a farm when he became more then double in size. I had already purchase 3 cages since he was a baby and couldn't keep him cause my step father wanted him gone. I was sad when Cody got the eye infection. I would of done the same with warm compress. I would of held him all night. 😢I don't think I want to see what happened so I'm gonna stop at the roof. Good luck and I will picture Cody just went to stay with family. Don't tell me different. ❤❤
Thank you. It means a lot. We're always a few weeks behind in video publish dates but I can report that Cody is still running around being himself and getting his daily dose of meds. -J
God bless you guys 🙏🙏🙏 We travel with our cat. We were actually on our way home from a funeral in Georgia. We live in Florida. About 35 minutes noth of Tampa Reggie had a problem. We phoned ahead and found an emergency vet. We parked the RV, Class A diesel pusher, and i had the car unhooked in under a minute. The vet said he had a blockage in his blood stream. His entire hind quarters were completely useless and he voided himself. The doctor told us there was a medication they could give him. It only had a 15% sucess rate. It would take a week to work "if" it even would and during that time his hind quarters would think he was dead and start delaying. 💔😭 They recommend letting him go. We felt sick, but it was the right thing to do. I highly sympathize with you guys. Pets are family and it really hurts losing them.
Oh I'm so sorry you had to go through that. 😭 It is absolutely so hard when it comes to making those decisions. We walked that road with our sweet Cinder (Cody's partner in crime) this past summer and it never gets easier. Prayers to you as I'm sure the hurt continues to linger. -J
Really enjoy following your journey - I am spending 6 months each year in my 5th wheel travelling and cycling all 50 States - 41 down to date - keep up the videos - they cheer me up and I admire your honesty 👍
That is sooo cool! I love seeing people with unique goals like that! Our goal to see all the national parks is nice and all, but pretty sure there are 10,000 other people with the same one. 😂 -J
lol. I sense a bias here. I'm sure there are some airstreams that have sprung leaks but that aside - yeah...home maintenance is part of the deal just like a house! -J
This is weeks after you posted this video. I’m so sorry to hear about your rabbit. It’s very sad. I do admire your desire (as you should as a responsible pet owner) to provide the best you can for your bunny to make his last months the best. As far as trinity and the bunny they will get along very well. Dogs have to be taught to hunt and not like other species, Except squirrels and birds and most snakes, they are known to be a natural chaser of them. But as for rabbits and cats most dogs have no problems getting them to get along. Best wishes. Love the content by the way. You guys are very inspiring.
Thank you for your kind comment. So far Trinity and Cody are getting along very well and we couldn't be happier. The last thing we wanted was for Cody to experience a trauma with the introduction of a new member to the fam. -J
There is a state that doesn’t charge tax on tires. But you’ll need them before Alaska. Also other maintenance. Alaska is very rough on tow vehicles. Many gravel rough roads.
Thank you. This was filmed back in November and we've been incredibly blessed to have several more months with him. He continued to take his meds like a champ and continues to rule and roam the RV. We'll see every day we get as a blessing. -J
I’m new to your channel and just started watching today ( binge watching actually) and I loved seeing you take on that beautiful abandoned puppo and how much love she has received, but that rabbit! Cutest fur baby ever. I can’t imagine how devastating it is to lose your fur love😢. Here’s to healing and peace.
Thank you so much. We've been so blessed that Cody has continued to live a happy (albeit "drug assisted") life for the past 4-5 months. We hope he proves the vet wrong and turns months into a year or more but we are simply happy for every day we have with him. -J
You guys have convinced me that I need to replace my roof this year. I have put it off way too long. I wanted to use the money for something else but, it has been put off too long and for too many less important things. It is so funny to be watching your videos out of order since I know “the future” but it is still fun. I will continue binge watching.
Thank you. We have been very blessed. This was back in November and we are so glad we've gotten this long with him. He loves his daily meds (we may or may not call him our little drug addict) and he still seems happy. We treasure every day we get with him. -J
Rarely, but we have had some sugar ants before. Terro cups get rid of them quickly when it happens. If we're going to be parked somewhere for a long time I'll put the ant spray or granules around all the RVs connection points to the ground. -J
Thank you so much. Yes he has. He's also been such a good pet for us. He's still hopping around enjoying life on his meds but we know our time with him is limited for sure. -J
If you find the video "Unemployed" I finished the roof there. I didn't show this extensively but I re-cleaned the roof once again with simple green and then wiping it down with rubbing alcohol before putting on the roof coat. -J
My recently discovered your channel, I shared it with my wife and we have fallen in love with you both. Love your adventures, how you tell stories and handle situations and how likable you both are. We are trying to watch in order. Thank you for sharing your life with us all
So so kind! Thank you. 🤗 I don't know if we've shared this yet or not super clearly but that is how we ended up starting RV life. Kalyn reallllly really wanted to and I was like "No thanks!" but then we started watching the Less Junk, More Journey channel together (this was 7-8 years ago now) and the more I watched...the more I was like..."Maybe we could do that....it doesn't seem so bad." And here we are. 😂 I'm sure you know this (but just in case) if you go to this page www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/videos And click on "Latest" it sorts them all from newest to oldest. -J
We have felt so blessed. This was released in November and we at the time honestly didn't think he would make it this long. He loves his meds and still runs around the RV like normal. He still drools like a madman and we aren't sure when his time will be up but we are so grateful for the days, weeks, and months we have been given. -J
Thank you. We feel really blessed because this was in November and he has been taking his daily meds like a champ and continues to run around the RV like he owns the place. We are grateful for every day. -J
Hello. Yes, Texas has very fast speeds on roads that in most other states would be much less. Having just been across & back the state of Texas I hear ya. Happy New Year. Safe Travels.
It's CRAZY! lol. I think it's worse because we drive at like 60-63MPH with the RV (less on roads that are less than smooth) so we had people passing us and honking. Texas hospitality I suppose. 😂 -J
Hope he does as well as he can. i had many rabbits when I was a kid. 7 Does and One Buck. I ended up with 80 little bunnies running all around my garage. I have nice memories of that. I have lost 2 dogs lately and I know it is rough. Feel for you both. God Bless
i'd also say no to the surger option...it is the way of nature, let things happen as long as your bunny is comfortable...oh and BTW for sure it's Pot-Able....at least that's how the West coast of the USA pronounces it! so you are right on brother
Thanks. This was filmed in November and Cody is still doing so much better than we thought. He continues to drool but with his medications he remains his happy self and remains King of the RV (even Trinity isn't quite sure what to do with him). So I'm super curious about the Pot vs. "pote-able" water because it was on the west coast that I was first corrected on it. Although, it's possible the person who corrected me wasn't an original west coaster. I'm going to have to do more research on this but I do know that according to everything I've found "Pote" is correct....but that doesn't make it less silly. 😂 -J
Thank you. Our videos are a little behind real life - Cody is still bringing smiles and taking his pain meds daily. We're hoping for as many months of quality life as possible from our little guy and cherishing every day. -J
Just found you all a few weeks ago (after the pup adopting you) and so sad to hear about this news. I did get excited when you mentioned YNAB - I love YNAB and it’s changed my life!
Appreciate your thoughts. This was actually pre-Trinity and Cody is still doing pretty well on the pain meds. We're hoping he enjoys a drug addicted life for several months more cause he's still bringing smiles every day. -J
I had to go back and watch this video that you were editing in your latest video… but what I wanted to say is that I’ve watched a few now and I’m super impressed with your RV interior, the indoor shots look like you’re in a regular home than in an RV. You’ve done a super nice job with the interior. It definitely feels like a home! And it makes me very happy that you chose to keep Trinity. She really seems like a great dog, you both got lucky to have found each other!
This must be BT (before Trinity) I am sorry to hear about Cody. It kills me when I see people writing, mostly in the south, that they just keep rabbits in cages or containers in a garage or worse or outside until they are eaten😭
So much love for what you wrote here. Yes, we got this diagnosis in November, and met Trinity in December. Cody is still with us, he's getting along with Trinity, enjoying his daily pain meds, and getting all our love each and every day. -J
Poor bunny! I'm so sorry to hear that! He obviously has had a very happy and full life and he is very well taken care of.🤗 What an adorable blessing he has been to your journey! We are looking forward to hearing about your new gig! We are contemplating going full time after a 3 month trip up the East Coast. Watching your work camping videos is super helpful! 🙌 I am also interested in how you boondock. We haven't tried that yet since we don't have solar or a generator.
Thanks so much for you kindness. Cody has been (and still is) an incredible pet. We cherishing the time we have left. I would certainly make sure you have some form of power before boondocking. The batteries that generally come with RVs won’t last long especially if you have an inverter and run things other than your water pump off it. Having the opportunity to test it out for 3 months is incredible. It will give you a really good idea as to whether or not you can enjoy living in a small space with the benefit of a new front yard whenever you feel like it. Keep us posted on your journey! -J
My advice is go old school. Don't use your microwave or any other electrical appliance. We toasted bread on a stove top toaster. Made coffee using a stove top percolator. Or used a French press. I last did the about 5 years boondocking in Northern Ontario in my motor home. I was able to last three weeks before my black and gray tanks needed to be emptied and I needed to fill my water tank. My house batteries needed charged by then too. Baths were taken in the lake I was camping near with environmentally friendly soap.
@@Amtrak.taz. You are certainly more "one with nature" than us 😂. We have enough solar and battery to have the comforts of home minus air conditioning...and we can only go a week on our tanks. 😂😂😂
It was hard to hit the like button with news like this Im so sorry for you guys , my last dog was a rescue and she was so sweet and mellow and she was getting sick and I took her in to the vet hoping it was treatable or a diet change and ended up being cancer , got a couple more months with her it was so hard . My thoughts and prayers to you guys .
Thank you so much. Yes, I always never am sure what to do with like buttons and hard news! You want your friends to know you are thinking about them even when you don't "like" what you heard. We appreciate your prayers, again, thank you. This video was recorded around Thanksgiving and Cody is still with us, taking his pain meds like a champ and still bringing daily smiles to our faces. We are grateful for every day we get. -J
Thank you for sharing. It’s so hard to get news like this sometimes it’s comforting to know that you’re not walking a road that others haven’t also walked before you. -J
We go over it a little bit in the "We're broke" video but I want to stress something that I think was misunderstood by many. Our fault for not making it more clear. First the breakdown: $4,000 for fuel $9,000 for experiences & extras (excursions, bush flights, etc. This may be high...but we want to do a lot while we are up there.) $2,000 for budget buffer That's the $15K. We are 110% sure we will spend more than $15K while we are there but we are using this fund to remove fuel and entertainment from our monthly budget to help cover the fact that things like food will be more expensive. Typically our monthly budget is between $3,000 and $4,000. (Kalyn actually breaks down our normal monthly budgets on IG if you're interested) So if we spend 3 months on this trip and spend everything we saved along with our normal monthly budget (which I don't think we will....but better safe than sorry) we would spend somewhere between $27K - $31K over the course of the trip. I hope that makes sense! -J
if your ever in southern kansas look up cottonwood animal clinic in arkansas city knasas they take care of all of our animals and we also have a rabbit
I've wish we had known yall were a mere 10 miles from our house. I would have had you bring your rig here or came there to help you with your roof. So sorry about the news with your fur baby. Hang in there stay safe.
That's the hard thing with our videos being a few weeks behind real life 😫. Thanks so much for that offer though and we'll come your way next time the RV is falling apart. lol Appreciate your kindness with regard Cody. -J
Ahh , Paris, tx. Very familiar with that town. Have tons of family there. Went to Pjc that’s across the street from that Eiffel Tower. Good ole’ Lamar County
Thank you. We are so grateful that his meds have been keeping the pain away and seem to have slowed any major progression of the tumor. The vet gave him months, and so far it's been about 4 months and we just give him the best life we can while we can. -J
Sorry about your little buddy. Also the roof thing was funny bc I was like, how is the roof bad, he just painted on that stuff! But then I remembered that I had just found your channel yesterday and had binge watched from the first video all last night so in my mind it was recent…but was actually 5 years ago!! Lol
that forest service road is not far from my house theres alot more better spots around here with ponds and lakes on them we camp them alot in the summer
Yeah! We were setting up close to sunset but when I drove around a couple days later I saw that there are tons of options around there! That spot worked out pretty well for us though because we had some really good TMobile service. We'd certainly camp there again! -J
I commented previously, without knowing about this previous episode about your bunny. Im older and not very good at this stuff ( technology ) Sorry to hear the news, glad Trinity found you guys. “Enjoy the time you have “ kinda applies to Life in general I suppose. Mike
Thank you. It's been about 6 weeks since we filmed that and Cody is loving his pain meds and we give him all our love every day that we have left with the guy. -J
EPDM installed on a house should not be in that bad of shape, so why has it deteriorated so fast as an RV roof? My home EPDM (black EPDM direct glue down installed in Colorado) is still going strong at about 17 years with zero deterioration.
So I’m not an expert but all I know is what it looks like. 😂 it’s 19 year old roof - last 5 years of its existence has been privately full sun. I don’t know if it’s a thinner material or different in any way from residential epdm. We have a plan though! Stay tuned. -J
We've posted a few reviews and added one spot in South Dakota. However we haven't been exactly sure what's going on with Campendium so at the moment we're using it as a resource but not really contributing much until we see how things shake out. -J
Good reminder! We've been to Canada with our rabbit before with no issues - but we may have another animal this time around and we will certainly have to make sure we have all her records in order. -J
I am so sorry about the news you received, it's never easy to know you're furbaby has health issues. I'm sure he's had a wonderful, full life, but it still hurts our hearts. I'm so glad the meds are working, enjoy every day!🙏❤️🐾
Thank you so much. This was over a month ago now and he's still being our buddy. I keep hoping he has several months of managed care but of course we don't know. Thank you for thinking of us. We do greatly appreciate it. -J
So sorry I couldn't imagine if it was my dog but I would do what y'all are doing just letting him live out his life and give him all the lives until that day live you guys
Yeah. We would have considered surgery if the operation wouldn't mean another operation every 6 weeks. Even if that was financially feasible it's no life for pet. Our videos are always a little behind real life - but as I'm typing this Cody is at my feet begging for a banana so I better go get a piece for him. 🙂 -J
As of yet, we do not! It is on our list though! And at the moment we are kinda locked down in a location with not much "Adventuring" happening so we may need to push that one up closer to the top! -J
Just curious, do y'all ever go to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous? The big tent there is full of companies looking for seasonal or full-time workers. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.
Many of the western states are 80mph, its crazy, we never go over 65 when towing so we get some flak from drivers that want to go 90. Are you guys pulling that thing with a gaser, it must be to only have a 20 gal tank. Dude that roof is screwed, that cracking is really bad, time to replace that roof or use one of the whole roof coating systems but they are expensive. One good thing about traveling the west is you rarely have rain like we get in florida. Did you guys purposely get an old rv that is falling apart so you have lots of youtube content, haha. You need to use a proper roller to make sure that eternabond is sealed properly. Screw that, even if they dont allow washing, i wash the roof anyway, what are they going to do kick us out, we are usually only at a campground for a few days at a time. We have a youtube rv channel with 50k subs and have never gotten a super thanks, congrats. I didnt mean to watch a 25 min video this morning but your story kind of sucked me in, and you kept me wanting to know what was going to happen, spending big money on pets medical is a tough call, especially when they get close to the end of life. When we lost our pets, no way we could have held it together to share online.
I'm totally with you on the 65mph thing. Actually cut a good chunk of video out where I discussed that very topic. It's crazy to me whenever an RV passes me doing 75-80, even if its the speed limit. So you'll need to stay tuned on the roof. We've been working on it. I'm hoping to get another couple of years out of it and after some of the work I've done, I'm hopeful. I know for sure that I will be up on the roof far more often though giving it thorough inspections. We got this RV because we loved it...it's falling apart because we've lived in it for 4 years and I haven't done enough solid maintenance on it because I haven't learned enough yet. Working on that. This thing is solid as a tank though which is one of the reasons we love it so much. Yeah, pets care is always tough so I was glad this was a pretty clear cut decision for us. So far he's still loving life and taking his meds every day. Just drools a little bit. -J
I just wanted to say. I was so impressed with how hard Joe worked on the beet harvest the last few videos. I feel guilty because I work in tech and make way too much just sitting on my butt all week, so I wanted to spread the love. Really sorry to hear about Cody. :(
Thank you so so much Jonathan. Someday I'm going to give someone a $100 super thanks just so I can understand being on the other side of it, because on this side it's incredibly humbling and encouraging all at the same time. I appreciate all the tech workers out there because without tech, these videos wouldn't exist! Your career matters - but don't be afraid to go for a hike on the weekends! 😁 Thank you again for your incredible generosity! -J
@@OpenRoadingwhat happened to your other rabbit? So sorry about Cody! My husband and I recently found yall after watching Craig and Victoria!
@@OpenRoading sp very sorry to hear that! She was so cute! We have really enjoyed watching you guys & are still catching up on episodes 😀
So sorry about Cody. They are not our pets, they are family. Sending prayers for you guys.
We're cherishing every day we have with him. ❤️ -J
We just lost Cody's buddy Cinder this past summer so this felt like such a gut punch in November.
Cody has had a beautiful life! 9 years is pretty long for a rabbit.Bless you guys!
We have been so lucky to have him for so long. ❤️ -J
I just lost my 18 year old dog 2 days after christmas. Very tough. Just love him. He knows he is loved. You gave him a good life.
Thank you. ❤️
So sorry to hear this news about Cody. Hopefully he can have a wonderful next few months.
Wishing you all well.
Thank you so very much. We are always a few weeks behind in posting videos but he is still providing many smiles and we are still giving him lots of love. -J
Love to see Cody's sweet face! I lost a bunny to bone cancer. Never easy.
So sorry for your loss. Cody makes a couple of appearances in todays video (8pm Eastern) -J
So hard. 😭
Thank you for sharing.
It's heartbreaking to lose a sweet one like yours. You have, obviously, given her her best life ever.
Thank you! Our pets are everything to us! -K
Even your sad news is given in an upbeat and positive way. Thank you. Cody is lucky to have such caring parents!
I'm so sorry to hear about this. We are so lucky that they share their lives with us, however short. I hope both you and he enjoy this last chapter.
Thank you. We are making sure he feels our love and care every day we have.
Glad you enjoyed watching!
Thank you so much for the virtual hugs! They are very much appreciated. We are quickly growing very fond of our online friends. 🥰
Sending some bunny 🐰 treats. 💜
🐇 Thanks so much! We appreciate your kind generosity so so much. 🤗 -J
So sorry for you. I've been through this several times. Enjoy the time you have left with him. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Thank you and we will, we promise. -J
😪 Poor little feller...😢We have to do what we can for our fur babies. Water issues surely can't be ignored. I hope the sealing works for you.
They never leave your heart. 💜 -J
❤️ this. Our pets mean so much to us. -J
@@LloydsofRochester Now that is a switch....
Yeah - Animals have a huuuuge upside for years with a soul crushing downside. 😥 -J
Aw, I'm sorry about your fur baby. He looks content and loving resting there on your arm. You are great pet parents!!
Thank you so much. We’re pretty fond of the little guy. -J
I appreciate the rec. I will look into them if my repairs don't hold...which since I did them we both know that we don't expect them to hold. 😂 -J
I’m so sorry to hear that news. I feel what you’re going through. Prayers for you all! 🙏😢
Thanks so much. We're so blessed that he has continued to do pretty well on his meds for the last 4-5 months. -J
So sad for you guys and Cody. Life is hard, but life goes on. I had to "put down" my male lab and I cried like a baby.
I lost my dog to osteosarcoma in Oct 2022. The diagnosis was devastating and the outcome even harder. My heart goes out to y'all.
It's so hard not knowing WHEN. It's comforting to know there are people out there who understand. 🤍 - K
Thanks for being honest and real with your journey. Ignore the trolls. Give Cody all the love. Y’all rock.
Awww thank you so much! It’s easy to let people get under your skin sometimes but we feel nothing but love from this community! You’re amazing and we’ll pop your super thanks right into our Alaska fund! THANK YOU!! -J
The love and joy we have with our pets is a beautiful gift. My heart goes out to you. That is hard news. Sending you prayers and hugs!
So sorry for what yall are going thru. It is very hard and my heart goes out to yall. Sending hugs and prayers.
Thank you. It means a lot. We're always a few weeks behind in video publish dates but I can report that Cody is still running around being himself and getting his daily dose of meds. -J
@@OpenRoading That is so good to hear.
7:40 Paris TX is where i just watched the Total Eclipse - sweet 😋
Oh that would be a very cool spot for that!

Unfortunately there are only 3 types of travel trailers. Ones that have leaked, ones that will leak, and Airstreams.
lol. I sense a bias here. I'm sure there are some airstreams that have sprung leaks but that aside - yeah...home maintenance is part of the deal just like a house! -J
I just watched to the end. I'm so sorry! Sending love! 🐇 ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much. Everyone on here has been so kind. -J
❤stay strong! Faith over fear. So sorry for the news.
Thank you. We appreciate the love. -J
When I have an RV the roof is coated every summer. I hate doing it I'm afraid of heights. But I'm up there doing it.
Yeah. Regular roof maintenance is now on my radar. 🙂 -J
Awww, so very sorry about your bunny. Thanks for keeping it real. Keep showing him the love. 💛
Thank you, Darlene! Our pets are so special to us! -K
There is a state that doesn’t charge tax on tires. But you’ll need them before Alaska. Also other maintenance. Alaska is very rough on tow vehicles. Many gravel rough roads.
Just got tires this week! Will be sure to do as much maintenance as possible before departure. -J
So incredibly difficult. So sorry...
At least make sure you get someone up there to check it's condition. I really should have done more sooner! -J
Sorry to hear about your fur baby, enjoy the time you guys have left with him. 😢
We aren't taking a single day for granted. Thank you so much for thinking of us. -J
I don't drink the water from my tank either, but I ended up getting a filler filter because of Arizona's hard water
Hard water. Hate it! -J
Many blessing to you and Cody. 💖💖💖🙏🙏
Thank you. We have been very blessed. This was back in November and we are so glad we've gotten this long with him. He loves his daily meds (we may or may not call him our little drug addict) and he still seems happy. We treasure every day we get with him. -J
that reminds me...do you ever have a problem with ants coming up the wheels and into the RV? I would constantly be afraid of that!
Rarely, but we have had some sugar ants before. Terro cups get rid of them quickly when it happens. If we're going to be parked somewhere for a long time I'll put the ant spray or granules around all the RVs connection points to the ground. -J
Hello. Sorry to hear about Cody, but he has lived a good life. Happy New Year, & safe travels.
Thank you so much. Yes he has. He's also been such a good pet for us. He's still hopping around enjoying life on his meds but we know our time with him is limited for sure. -J
The colours of the trees in the background when Cody was on the roof …. Wow
We followed fall to Texas! 😁 -J
Thanks!
Trinity came into your life through god knowing it was Cody’s time he gave you trinity to help you through such a bad time love and prayers through it
Thank you. Yes, I think that's one of the many reasons Trinity came into our lives. ❤️ -J
Do you have a tarp or two to cover the roof to keep it dry until you can get back to complete the restoration?
I'm sure you know this (but just in case) if you go to this page
www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/videos
And click on "Latest" it sorts them all from newest to oldest. -J
Sorry for your news. Praying you have an awesome time with your wabbit Cody.
We have felt so blessed. This was released in November and we at the time honestly didn't think he would make it this long. He loves his meds and still runs around the RV like normal. He still drools like a madman and we aren't sure when his time will be up but we are so grateful for the days, weeks, and months we have been given. -J
dang, sorry about the bad news for your rabbit
Thank you. We feel really blessed because this was in November and he has been taking his daily meds like a champ and continues to run around the RV like he owns the place. We are grateful for every day. -J
It’s fun to find a new couple to “travel” with
We're happy to have you come along! Thanks for taking the time to let us know you're here. -J
God Bless
80 bunnies!? I don't know whether I would be in heaven or stressed out. 🤣 Thank you so much for your kind words. - K
Hoping you have some good times with Cody in the next few months. I wish you guys have a blessed 2024. Looking forward to going to Alaska with you
We are soaking up every minute we have with him! 🤍 - K
you also have London , Texas Athens , Texas and Turkey Texas
But is there a Big Ben, Acropolis, or Hagia Sophia? 😁 (I hope the answer is yes because that would be awesome) -J
@@OpenRoading i believe there is i do know those towns do something to celebrate something about how they got their name
@@christophereverett5695 That's awesome. -J
i'd also say no to the surger option...it is the way of nature, let things happen as long as your bunny is comfortable...oh and BTW for sure it's Pot-Able....at least that's how the West coast of the USA pronounces it! so you are right on brother
Very sorry to hear about your furbaby 🙏🏻
I always get a chuckle when a video we're editing shows up in a video. Kinda breaks the fabric of space and time. 😂 -J
Oh so sorry about Cody😢
Thank you. He’s still hopping around enjoying life on his meds. -J
This must be BT (before Trinity) I am sorry to hear about Cody.
It kills me when I see people writing, mostly in the south,
that they just keep rabbits in cages or containers
in a garage or worse or outside until they are eaten😭
WOW that is super impressive and inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing! 🤗
@@Amtrak.taz. You are certainly more "one with nature" than us 😂. We have enough solar and battery to have the comforts of home minus air conditioning...and we can only go a week on our tanks. 😂😂😂
Hugs and love to you all.
Thank you. We have felt every virtual hug. -J
Sorry you have to go thru this! Our dog had a similar tumor in her mouth. We did same antibiotics and pain med for 6 months of good times with her.
Thank you for sharing. It’s so hard to get news like this sometimes it’s comforting to know that you’re not walking a road that others haven’t also walked before you. -J
Im curious how you came up with the dollar amount for the Alaska trip? Im also wanting to travel to alaska in my van.
We go over it a little bit in the "We're broke" video but I want to stress something that I think was misunderstood by many. Our fault for not making it more clear.
First the breakdown:
$4,000 for fuel
$9,000 for experiences & extras (excursions, bush flights, etc. This may be high...but we want to do a lot while we are up there.)
$2,000 for budget buffer
That's the $15K.
We are 110% sure we will spend more than $15K while we are there but we are using this fund to remove fuel and entertainment from our monthly budget to help cover the fact that things like food will be more expensive.
Typically our monthly budget is between $3,000 and $4,000. (Kalyn actually breaks down our normal monthly budgets on IG if you're interested)
So if we spend 3 months on this trip and spend everything we saved along with our normal monthly budget (which I don't think we will....but better safe than sorry) we would spend somewhere between $27K - $31K over the course of the trip.
I hope that makes sense! -J
if your ever in southern kansas look up cottonwood animal clinic in arkansas city knasas they take care of all of our animals and we also have a rabbit
Thanks for the recommendation! -J
then if you guys ever need a place to get away for a few days we have a 50 amp plug in and sewer outlet in our back yard @@OpenRoading
@@christophereverett5695 Thanks so much! -J
So sorry about Cody. New subscriber as of today.
Thank you. Cody is still with us and still taking his pain meds faithfully. We're cherishing every day we get with him. -J
I've wish we had known yall were a mere 10 miles from our house. I would have had you bring your rig here or came there to help you with your roof. So sorry about the news with your fur baby. Hang in there stay safe.
That's the hard thing with our videos being a few weeks behind real life 😫. Thanks so much for that offer though and we'll come your way next time the RV is falling apart. lol
Appreciate your kindness with regard Cody. -J
Ahh , Paris, tx. Very familiar with that town. Have tons of family there. Went to Pjc that’s across the street from that Eiffel Tower. Good ole’ Lamar County
It seemed like a nice town. The tower just didn't live up to the "Everything is bigger in texas" vibe. 😂 -J
So sorry to about Cody…
Lol
Don't underestimate my power to screw things up as well. But in this case yeah, you were time traveling. 🤣 -J
that forest service road is not far from my house theres alot more better spots around here with ponds and lakes on them we camp them alot in the summer
Yeah! We were setting up close to sunset but when I drove around a couple days later I saw that there are tons of options around there! That spot worked out pretty well for us though because we had some really good TMobile service. We'd certainly camp there again! -J
I commented previously, without knowing about this previous episode about your bunny. Im older and not very good at this stuff ( technology )
Sorry to hear the news, glad Trinity found you guys. “Enjoy the time you have “ kinda applies to Life in general I suppose. Mike
Thank you so much for your kindness. -J
So sorry for your loss 😢 Animals are so special and loved by everyone around them.. They’re apart of the family.
Stay tuned. -J
Do you post your stays at Campendium as well?
We've posted a few reviews and added one spot in South Dakota. However we haven't been exactly sure what's going on with Campendium so at the moment we're using it as a resource but not really contributing much until we see how things shake out. -J
REMEMBER CANADIEN customs with Cody. paper work and health is a big deal. call them get a supervisor. im guessing alaska is for the spring time?
Do you have a video on how you choose & find these types of seasonal or temp jobs
@@tennesseeterri The what what what? 😳 Now that's a name for a gathering!!
Haven't been. Will have to look it up! -J
It's once a year, I think it's this week.
Thank you again for your incredible generosity! -J
