    Our pup is great with basic commands (come, sit, down, place, heel, off, break) but is eager to learn more. What are some intermediate to advanced commands we can train with e-collar and how to start training them?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад +5

      Thank you so much for asking about this, Deena. It's great to know your dog is having such a good time training with you.
      It is important to mention, first, that no commands should be taught for the first time using a remote trainer. These tools are intended to help reinforce commands your dog already knows and thoroughly understands.
      With that being said, the type of training you would move to next would depend on the skills you would like your dog to have. If you are interested in hunting with your dog, we would recommend checking out our videos by Tom Dokken- these can be found by searching his name on our profile page. He has many examples of helpful commands and training exercises for working with our hunting partners.

    Hello and thank you I hope this works for my boy, anyway it says about basic obedience first but he knows his name and what come means but is stubborn and dosent listen so if he won't listen to command how can I get him to listen to that before introducing the collar?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад +2

      Thank you for asking this question. If your dog is already understanding commands but not necessarily obeying them, you can use our remote trainers to reinforce this training. These are communication tools which will help your dog better understand what is expected of him when a command is given.

    Just actually bought one of your collars I am trying to use it with my 3 yr old staffy who is high anxiety has had one bad experience with the e collar that I know of to date... And has major dog reactivity... I am scared to try this because I don't want to make him worse... Do you think I am making the right decision for my boy with the anxiety and previous bad experience?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад +6

      Thank you for reaching out. We would not recommend our remote trainers for dogs that are heavily affected by anxiety. Since anxiety is a condition rather than a behavior, using a remote trainer to correct a behavior created by the anxiety could potentially make the behavior worse. We would recommend reaching out to a certified trainer or animal behaviorist for further assistance in your dog's situation.

      Thank you for your question, Alain. While you can certainly use a remote trainer to keep your dog from running out toward the road, please keep in mind that it is not a containment system and you will always need to be present with the remote to deliver the correction as needed.

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад

      Thank you for your question. Our remote trainers are excellent tools for helping refine your dog's responses to commands that have already been taught. While you can certainly use the system to work on off-leash training, we do recommend starting the training on a long lead to help establish the initial command. Once your dog has the basics down, you can then transition to working off-leash and use the remote trainer to reinforce your training commands.

    My dog already knows these commands but occasionally has a delayed recall with distractions or ignores if chasing an animal. She’s been leash trained with a prong collar and knows commands off collar. Should I still introduce the ecollar to her with the prong collar so she associates the stimuli of the ecollar as the same communication as the prong?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for this great question.
      We would recommend still introducing the collar in this way, as this will help teach and enforce the collar's use as in some ways essentially a long lead. For most dogs, it's very helpful in understanding these collars to use them alongside tools and commands they already know.

    Hello. Where on the neck do you recommend placing the receiver? It looked like you had it at the bottom instead of off to the side. Thank you

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад +1

      Great question. For the most comfortable and effective fit, the receiver should be right in the center of your dog's neck just below his chin. This is where the neck is narrowest, so it will allow for a consistent fit, and it is more comfortable for your dog in this position as the contact points as opposed to the side of his neck.

      Great question, Auryan. Some dogs may be more sensitive and the lowest level may be too strong. In these cases, the vibration or tone may work as a form of correction, but this will entirely depend on your dog's own tolerance to the tone or vibration and how they respond to it.

    What level stimulation (V/T or level 1) would you recommend using just starting to use an ecollar on a 5 month old chocolate lab puppy for duck hunting and what excersizes for "come/here"

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  5 лет назад +3

      Hey Ryan. It will depend on your dog. You'll be looking for recognition in the form of an ear twitch or head tilt. It should be a very mild reaction. Vibrate might be the only thing you need, but if your puppy has high drive you might need to bump it up. The X-Series collars feature low, medium and high levels per each level on the dial, so start at Level 1 Low, then Level 1 Medium, and so on until you see that recognition. Here's an article that details this out a little more: www.sportdog.com/hunting-training-tips/finding-your-dogs-just-right-e-collar-level#content-top

      Hi Stacey, we certainly appreciate you choosing our YardTrainer 300 for your dog's training needs. Rather than being ready at a certain age, you want to be sure that your dog has developed the mental capability to learn and understand commands first, before starting with the e-collar. This happens at different ages for different dogs.

    What is the difference between the 100 yard remoter trainer and the 300 yard remote trainer? Besides the distance, why does one have the V/T button and the other does not have that option?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  2 года назад

      Thank you for this question, Matt. The primary differences between these two systems will be the distance and stimulation options. The YT-100 offers tone, vibration, and continuous static stimulation. Each correction option is assigned to a single button and the job of each button cannot change. On this model, you will have 8 levels on the dial to choose from to find the best stimulation match for your companion's temperament. On the YT-300, you also have tone and vibration but the difference is the static stimulation can be continuous on the upper button or momentary on the lower button. You can change the jobs of the upper and lower button to vibration instead by turning the dial to the V/T setting. We hope this information is helpful to you. Please contact SportDOG Customer Care directly at 1-800-732-0144 should you need any further assistance.

    Can I put it on a 14 to 16 week puppy?

    • @SportDOGBrand
      @SportDOGBrand  4 года назад +14

      The main thing to look for is "Can my puppy understand commands?" If your puppy has learned commands, then your puppy has shown he/she has developed the mental capability to learn how you are communicating. The e-collar (when used correctly) is just another form of communication to help polish those commands you have already taught. If your puppy's mental capability is not there yet, then you can use these early moments to start associating the collar with fun times. You can put the collar on your puppy (while it is off) and have a 10 minute play session, for example.

I love him and have no desire to see him in pain, so will limit myself to the vibrate mode in the model I bought in anything other than an extreme emergency (running into a highway or going after someone’s cat). These are controversial devices for a reason - in the wrong hands they can cause pain and that’s wrong - but if you love your dog and use it responsibly and cautiously I don’t see a problem with it.

While there is a strap keeper provided to help tuck the tail end of the strap down securely, any excess strap is meant to be cut once the strap has been fitted to your dog's neck size.
