    The main thing with teaching any recall command is never settle for ignoring it. Ever. They must come back every time with no slacking or lack of enforcement by the trainer. Dogs are like kids. If you give in an inch, they'll push for a mile. That really goes for any command.

      Completely agree, which is why the ecollar should not be used as a training aid because you have no way of reinforcing a command that is ignored. The bleep collar is gradually introduced as an alternative recall message. They need 100% recall before you add the collar.

    21 levels between the 3 buttons. you can change beep vibrate and shock buttons all you want.

    Wow. Lovely dog. How did you teach him such a good recall with such distractions. With the e collar? Or e collar is just to reinforce what´s learned?

      Thank you, yes he is lovely! I trained him to recall away from distractions with voice, then added the whistle. He was always rewarded with a clicker and treat. I then added the buzzer, which was easy, once he knew one signal I could use both and then either. I gave him a lot of training so it became habitual. I never ever let him ignore a recall, I kept at it until he obeyed. Now he doesn’t think there is an alternative option. He still gets a treat reward. Now out in the field I have added arm signals using the same combination method, it adds an alternative way of communicating if needed. Good luck. N

    I would love to see you show your process for teaching recall
    I am currently introducing the beep as recall to my wire fox terrier as when he gets on scent he doesn’t hear me. , he has a whistle recall down well except when chasing

      I'm not a professional trainer but I have trained a lot of my dogs over the years. I always do training away from any other distractions, that way the dog will focus all his attention on me. I start with a simple command, and when they master that I work up to the next level - another comand or maybe the same command but a greater distance. I always reward with a clicker and a treat. It is absolutely essential that a dog is never allowed to ignore a command, you have to keep at it until they obey. If they think they can get away with ignoring you, all is lost! For recall, simply start with voice command and short distances. Then longer distances. Then do a voice and whistle at the same time so they know it means the same thing. Then voice and bleep, or voice and arm signal. That way they know that voice, whistle, bleep and arm signall all mean "Come to me". When then get to you, always make them sit and wait for a teat and release. I have seen people get good recall initially but don't follow through, and they wonder why the dog starts to devuiate from a direct recall route. When you get 100% obedience in the training field, it will be easy to continue that level of obedience where there are distractions. Some dogs are better than others, I have always had working dogs so it is probably easier than breeds that are less focssed on the relationship with the handler. I hope that helps!

      @@ArfordSalar thank you so much for the reply.
      I am certain then I have just allowed him to learn to ignore them when I could not enforce
      I appreciate your time

    i just bought one of these for my 1 year old german shepherd. i want to teach her a recall as she does not listen at all outside around distractions. how long did it take you to teach your dog that recall? and any advice would be appreciated! 💕

    • @ascentlearning5107

      You have to train to recall first to voice or whistle or signal or a combination, and have 100% confidence in an area without distraction. This just requires perseverance! Then introduce the collar as well, again without distractions so the dog knows to always come. Then you can go out and use the collar around distractions. If you ever, ever allow the dog to disobey you give them permission to disobey and you have to start training all over again. It took us to about a year old to get good reliable recall without distractions, then another three months probably to introduce the collar and be confident out in the field. Always be consistent with clear signals and follow through for obedience. But GSPs are highly trainable (as are GS) other dogs may take more work. Good luck and I hope that helped.

      @@ascentlearning5107 What do you do when the Gsp disobeys a recall and doesn't return for several minutes?

    • @ArfordSalar
      @ArfordSalar  2 года назад +2

      @@jamesbatt4439 put him back on the training lead and start training from basics again. If they start to ignore recall signals you have to stop them doing that otherwise they think they can get away with it. Most GSPs go through a phase like that at 12 to 15 months old, but if you go back to the training lead they soon learn again.

    I have the SD825. All three of my buttons don't work when I press them. Only one does. I pair the receiver with the remote with upper button, only upper button works. If I pair with lower button, only lower works. How do I get all three to work with let's say level one or two? Thanks

      You need to contact the supplier because that is not a fault I can help with. When I had a faulty unit in the warranty period they were very helpful.

    Can you comment on the sport dog collar vs the mini educator?

    • @ArfordSalar
      @ArfordSalar  2 года назад +1

      I can't comment from experience as I haven''t used the Mini Educator. From the details available online it seems to have a similar function but uses a "tap", whatever that is. There are many similar devices on the market but with all of them, they need to be introduced sensitively as part of a dog's training. With that approach, they should all be a great help in long distance control. Good luck!

    I can’t figure out the vibration on my remote for my Sport Dog e collar. I tried following the video but when I press the vibration button it just beeps like the other video. Any idea on how to fix this?

    • @ArfordSalar
      @ArfordSalar  2 года назад

      The beep button is the side button. The vibrate button is in the front with an extra little bump on it. Set the dial to VT to vibrate instead of shock.

      @@ArfordSalar That’s what I’ve been trying and it still doesn’t work. I’m wondering if there is a problem with the actual remote and/or collar as I’ve watched a ton of tutorial videos and I still can’t get the vibration. I’ll be calling the SportDog help phone to see if I can talk to someone and figure out the issue. Thanks anyways!

      One bump is the Vibrate button , the other on the right is used to switch between collars if you are managing more than one dog.
