WOW! We just got an E collar for our dog. She is a brilliant but stubborn. Now that we know how to use the collar and have her connect the vibrations with us, we can train her safely and correctly. Before the collar, we were about to give up. Thank you Tom!
Good intro. Way too many people have been told this is the dreadful "Shock collar" That is nothing but a pain delivery system. I use it for recall mostly also. I can let her run around off leash. If I can’t see her I push the beeper on collar and she’ll come running! Feel it’s a safer way to let her run. Warning!!! Don’t put it in your pocket and forget about it! I’ve done it!! Sucks! lol
Great introduction, saving up to get one,!! Love your videos and training , by far the best ! Your connection to the dogs and the comunication to the owners is to the point . A good trainer is so important.
Thank you so much for this! I have an ecollar but was hesitant to use it because I didn't know how to correctly use it. It's one thing to read the directions and another to see someone like you doing it.
Learning to use the ecollar in under 20 min... perfect! I don't use mine that often with my clients, but it's a good tool to have in my tool bag (literally have a bag with various tools for dog training... leashes, collars, etc.)
@tomdavisofficial well, the hour I spent with you a few years ago going over prong and remote collar usage was worth every penny. I use prongs a lot more than remotes but having both with me on every appointment has changed lives in the best way...for the dogs and their owners. Merry Christmas, Tom
A superb introduction. My wife and i watched together and so appreciate the clarity and expert guidance. We went from zero understanding to "getting it" in a short time. We'll look at the full package, but appreciate your generosity in sharing what you have so far.
Very concise and easy to understand. I think you explain the e-collar so well because you 100% believe everything your saying. I see how it can be a great communication tool. What do you think of the Dogtra Mini for small dogs?
I would have like to have seen this on a high energy dog that hasn’t had the E collar on before. That’s where most of us are at with it. I have a 6 month golden doodle. Just ordered my collar
Have an American bulldog I adopted in Florida last year. She was only a year old n only knew how to sit. E-collar helped a whole lot. Now she is my service dog and sits in the booth with me at the table in restaurants like a little lady
Thank you for showing me how to start using an E collar Tom. I have tried positive training for so long and 3 trainers. Finally started with the prong collar and my dog is a pleasure to walk now. Certain things still need a bit of work and the e collar should help with that.
Great intro to ecollars. The most impactful group demo for me when I was skeptical on the ecollar was someone holding the collar facing the group. Trainer standing behind pressing button starting at 1. Group can watch the face of the trainee and see where they feel it. Can be a very different #?by person but it’s usually teens. Then put on a dog and see where they feel it. As you say, much lower number. Feeling is believing! Or watching someone else feel it for the not so brave😅
Wonderful introduction to the e-collar. Good clear and concise directions and information! Your delivery just keeps improving all the time, Tom. Nice job!
I never used the vibrate function before on my dog but he’s 10 now and going deaf. So recall has been extra challenging as he can’t hear me. The e-collar has been a game changer using the vibrate to get his attention (just setting 1 even) then he can be recalled with hand signals! Just an idea for any one else struggling with deafness in their dogos.
I wore my dogs bark collar on my wrist to see what they experienced. It vibrated, beeped and next shocked. Two warnings. My dog Chester actually would come to me to put it on him so he could go outside. Chester also learned to moan, huf, stomp under the sensor levels. My dog Bear opts to stay quiet with his on. Most of the time the batteries are dead now. When they figure it out I just charge it. I am learning a lot about the training collar version because FionaClaire my 30lb puppy is all muscle and can keep up with cars at 35mph. She also will yank and pull me to test me. She knows training cues and will do them when she chooses. FionaClaire doesn't have a bark problem so I don't need the bark version for her. I am glad I came across your videos.
Thank you for giving us this intro to the e-collar. Gives a much easier understanding to it and helps give people the right way to use it! So many people think this is an aggressive and aversive tool. Thank you for helping break the stigma and educating people. So much information and helpful tips and questions answered. Happy holidays, can't wait to see more from you and your channel!
Just wanted to say I got this collar months ago, but was still unsure about it, and had it hanging on my wall for the longest time. Meanwhile, we've been working on recall, and he's been doing really good, but sometimes he'll come and still fly by me, which I didn't want off leash, it was making me nervous. Seen a video of a husky with your collar on, so I thought to give it a try again, since he mostly needed fine tuning. Didn't bother re-tuining it to him, just put it on, had it at a 7 because i couldn't remember exactly where you said, but it seemed like a good spot. Had some treats on me (even though he doesn't only come for those), called his name while pressing the button and I got an instant laser beam dog sprinting towards me. Felt so much relief.
I just got Dogtra ARC 802 for my 2 dogs (2yo and 1.5yo), we started training and conditioning yesterday, the dogs are working at lvl 5 and responding nicely and faster with their already known commands. Thanks to you and your videos I decided to give it a go and train with an ecollar, in hope to give my girls more offleash freedom when we go for walks in nature and at the beach. I tried this without ecollar and I always have fear that they wont listen in case something grabs too much of their attention (like for example the other day we were walking in some fields and a rabbit jumped out 2 meters away from us, they went into wild chase, one dog came back right away but the other took off and didnt come back right away, took her at least 15 secs, I was terrified she was going to hurt herself as there were bushes and holes and uneven ground and all kinds of crap in the field. Thankfully she was fine, but I do not want this to happen again as we walk around nature alot and I want them to freely explore without having to stress or restrain the dogs with long leashes or extend leashes all the time) Thank you for your videos and content, they help us so much in our journeys with our furballs
Imagine how insanely smart Lakota must be to have commands said all day long around her to sort out the ones he needs to follow and those she can safely ignore bc its for another purpose. Pretty amazing dog.
I have one dog she's the elder dog, she's fully trained, and then I just got a 2 month old Canne Corsa... The puppy is doing great. I corrected once with the E collar while walking now he stays at my 3 o'clock.
Off topic question: is there any truth, or reality to male dogs being more protective to female owners and female dogs to male owners? Maybe some puppy finding help. I love your knowledge man it’s helping me a lot.
Great video. I have the Sportdog 425X and am in the conditioning stage with my 2.5 yo black lab. She is solid on all basic OB. Question for you is I am getting more of a response then I like on the lowest level. I'm keeping everything super positive, but I am not comfortable with the way she pins her ears back and gets clingy after a quick nick. She has a decent reaction to the vibration mode, but I don't hear too many professionals even mention using the vibrate mode. Any tips or thoughts?
Brooo wtf two days ago I introduced my English staffy the ecollar (a $30 one) and he did great… today I took him to a huge dog park and he did amazing! Payed with other dogs, lol (which was always scary, cuz he used to attack) easy to get back his attention, followed me everywhere… life changing! I been using level 6 and I don’t think I’m gonna need more, he even stop chasing random people playing with soccer balls which was a big problem! Crazy
I have been nervously waiting on getting an e collar because of the stigma around it, but I have a 7 month old cane corso and her strength and size and unwillingness to obey my commands has me thinking otherwise. She is loving and sweet but can knock my 6ft tall husband and myself over in a millisecond if we aren’t careful. Having grandchildren that visit frequently makes me think it may be necessary now.
Maybe mentioned somewhere. Dog needs to get used to the collar before you start using it! Don't just put it on and start! Mine wore daily for a while before adding any stim. Also didnt take collar off immediately after training. Just chilled for a while
Thank you for helpful understanding of e collars. I am getting one for my gsd as she gets sooo amp at anthing new or different. ( we've decided shes a horse in a pupper body😂😂) shes pretty spot on for recall and has learned to wait (stay) but shes always been a bit hyper and needs a shut off before shes over the top.
We just purchased a Dogtra 1900S for our newly adopted (roughly one year old) German Shepherd who is displaying some behaviors such as play biting/nipping (still hurts!), jumping and dog reactivity (only in very close contact which is good!). How long should we wait to use a "correction" for these behaviors? My understanding is that we should always enforce obedience to try to prevent these behaviors from happening at all, but when she gets excited, she starts nipping and play biting.
P.S. I ONLY ever considered buying an e-collar after watching all of your other videos and seeing how much you genuinely love dogs and would not harm them. You explain everything so well. Love the fact that we can eventually allow her the freedom to more safely go camping, fishing, etc.off leash. So excited for that! Thank you!!
@tomdavisofficial I'm considering on buying this for home training. My dog continues to jump on guests and i can't stop it. He won't do it to me but he will do it for new people. He's already too smart for the house leash or if I'm near. Trying to train my guests is not effective either. He's like a bad kid that knows it's wrong only when I'm around basically. Lol will this e collar work? If so, what's the best method to do this the right way after getting them used to the e collar?
My one pup loves treats but the other is only motivated by toys and affection. I realized that she liked toys immediately but I remember the first time I realized that she is most motivated by hugs and pets. I have those all the time, everywhere. lol
Sorry, I didn't see the part about "without food". Definitely try a treat like Tom suggests but if not toy motivated either, you could try having the crate open at both ends and use a leash to have the dog go through it to see that it's not something scary. Then you close the one end and bring the dog in and out and then close both ends. Just another suggestion.
Great Video so i will teach my dog in Germany, No Germans hast a Video that i can Trainee the dog with this tool , very great thank you very much !!! Greetings fromm Germany 🇩🇪👍👍👍
Great video! Would you be willing to teach with a dog that isn't already trained? I always struggle with what to do when introducing a skill and my dog has no idea what's going on, and does not react the way we want. I would love to see the strategies a professional uses with a dog that is just starting out.
Hi 👋🏾 I’m a newcomer to your videos and just watched the E collar opening and the controls and also this video on how to use it for beginners which I loved btw. I wanted to know, so the whole time you were pressing the bigger button which is the … damn I already forgot the name but I know it’s not the pager/vibration. So my question is when do you use the pager/vibration. I’m not sure if I missed it or not sure if I seen it pressed.
Correction** I just rewatched the first video i thought the red/orange on the bottom of the remote were buttons. So I was actually talking about the boost button aka bigger button that I mentioned above
Overall nice e-collar. I like the lock feature it should be on all of Dogtrd e-collars. I wish there was a actual off switch. I also wish it was expandable to two dogs because Dogtrd's other lock feature e-collars aren't for dogs under 35lbs.
THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME THAT THE VIBRATION IS NOT GOOD TO USE FOR TRAINING TO COME TO ME AND FOR SIT AND DOWN SO I AM GOING BACK TO THE STIMULATION I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH YOU ARE GREAT
Hi Tom, just watched this training with the e collar. We recently rescued 3 husky's from having to go to the pound. I can not keep them concerning my circumstances. 2 of the 3 husky's apparently have a scares social issue. These two do not allow me to touch or pet them. The original owners have shared that when they got the husky's, they were caged, and obviously the original owners never trained them. What can I do now that they are at the age of 2 and 3 yrs. to get them to trust me as my efforts is only to share love and care.
I can't decide if i should get the two dog collar or start with one and just work with them one at a time. I want to be able to take them both to the beach eventually. They are both willful and will require a lot of work. One is a rescue with high anxiety, and the other is a border collie who suddenly goes def when there's something interesting to chase.
Love this and hoping to train my 1 year old pup with the ecollar before going camping later this summer. Any chance you’ve got any discount codes or running any sales right now? Great channel, been using your advice to train him on leash so far. Wish I had a nice distraction-less training area to take him to that wasn’t my home. Any suggestions for good substitutes that I might find around town?
Can you do this with a vibration collar? And if you can, is there any vibration only collar that you would recommend? Here in Sweden electric is illegal with heavy penalties unfortunately. Thank you for all your videos and merry christmas!
@@tomdavisofficial oh sorry, my question was badly worded. I simply wonder if you think it is possible to achive the same result with the same teqnique but with a vibration collar. My bad! :)
@tomdavisofficial I've just bought a Dogtra Arc for my dog. The remote doesn't have a boost functionality. I'm wondering if there's time to manually adjust from say a 5 to a 15 when something goes wrong and the dog is in danger. Would it make sense to flip things around, use the pager as a baseline call function and the shock option at a higher level, say 15 or 20, as a last resort option for dangerous situations? I saw here on RUclips that several hunters use it that way - rightly or wrongly. Just trying to find the best solution that doesn't make this a negative thing but also allows for quick reactions should something happen. Cheers
I have a 4 yr. Old American dingo Shepherd mix. He's good with basic commands like sit lay down ect. But he is hard to control on the leash. Can this be corrected with an ecollar?
So I am very interested in this e-collar but I have a question do I have to use that sound or can I shut that off? I’m afraid the sound may worry my dog if anybody has this Tom Davis electric collar and knows a lot about it can you let me know if I could shut the sound off and just use the shock on like a three or four to start Thank youll
Apologies for the silly question, so the electric shock vs vibration, which one is to use during the intro and have less pain? which one for correction extreme behaviour?
I've been doing this, but she doesn't respond to the corrections once she's fixated on other dogs or animals. Prey drive is through the roof. I turned it almost all the way up after going up by increments by 10 several times and she clearly felt it but not enough to break her fixation
This is a great video. Im going to start using an Ecollar on my heeler pitbull mix. Hes 2 years old, and extremely protective and turns into aggression. Anybody have tips or advice in that area? I use it for recall mostly also. I can let her run around off leash. If I can’t see her I push the beeper on collar and she’ll come running! Feel it’s a safer way to let her run. Warning!!! Don’t put it in your pocket and forget about it! I’ve done it!! Sucks! lol
This video is such a gift 🎁 to so many. Thanks for all you give Tom
Thank you!!
Thank you!
Amazing video! So many people told me I should never put a shock collar on my dog. This is a perfect video!!!
this is not a shock collar its sound and vibration
@@RPSTORM88 No it is a shock..."stimulation".
You tried positive reinforcement only or reward-only training* Happy you found something that works!
Bingo!
Wonderful introduction to the e-collar. Good clear and concise directions and information! Your delivery just keeps improving all the time, Tom. Nice job!
Thanks so much!~
My 280c arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to introducing it following your technique. Thanks for all you do
Thank you! The mini educator, was huge for us in training our rescue boxer mix.
I use the Mini Educator too......Can't afford the Tom Davis Dogtra
I have a e collar from Amazon I can't buy your e collar
I never used the vibrate function before on my dog but he’s 10 now and going deaf. So recall has been extra challenging as he can’t hear me. The e-collar has been a game changer using the vibrate to get his attention (just setting 1 even) then he can be recalled with hand signals! Just an idea for any one else struggling with deafness in their dogos.
just placed my first order with you in appreciation of these videos 🤞🏼🐾
Great advice. Makes training my dog easy & understandable. Love the demonstrations with his dog.
Invaluable information, Tom. Well cone. 👏🏻👏🏻 Wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks so much!
Debating on getting one of these collars just to help our puppy. Looks like a good idea as long as we’re consistent and using it appropriately
Great video about the proper way to use the e collar with training & not a shortcut.
Thanks!
Thankfully she was fine, but I do not want this to happen again as we walk around nature alot and I want them to freely explore without having to stress or restrain the dogs with long leashes or extend leashes all the time)
Thank you for your videos and content, they help us so much in our journeys with our furballs
Thank you Tom. You explained the method so very well.
Imagine how insanely smart Lakota must be to have commands said all day long around her to sort out the ones he needs to follow and those she can safely ignore bc its for another purpose. Pretty amazing dog.
Lakota is a female
@@cmmm829 Thanks for the correction. Comment edited!!
Male dogs typically are more protective period.
just received the Dogtra Tom Davis 280C! I had been using the Amazon $30 dollar ones. Wow! This Dogtra you designed is awesome! Thank you!
I love everything you do. The e color have helpt me and Fugi a lot. And crazey fast🐺🤠✨
Excellent video , straight forward , informative and the visuals are a great addition…
Just ordered mine right now for my golden doodle
This is all well and good, I would get more from this video seeing you teach us using an untrained dog.
Crazy
Thank you Tom - you are a great teacher!
Bro you’re awesome and your understanding is realistic !!!
positive only people running away😅 great video, thank you so much!!
Thanks for watching!
Very helpful video merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Thank yoiu!
Just got one, not sure how to start using it properly, thank you for this!
Hi Tom, great video indeed! Can you please clarify whether your e collar vibrates only of it also gives a bit of an electric shock?
Maybe mentioned somewhere. Dog needs to get used to the collar before you start using it! Don't just put it on and start! Mine wore daily for a while before adding any stim. Also didnt take collar off immediately after training. Just chilled for a while
Yes. This is how I'm doing it.
That’s in my course
Thank you for helpful understanding of e collars. I am getting one for my gsd as she gets sooo amp at anthing new or different. ( we've decided shes a horse in a pupper body😂😂) shes pretty spot on for recall and has learned to wait (stay) but shes always been a bit hyper and needs a shut off before shes over the top.
big Fan here! Thank you.. Dogtra is best.
BRILLIANT video. Well done, sir.
Great video I'm for sure going to invest in your merch soon especially doggie stuff Merry Christmas to all
wqohoo!
Thank you!!
this is so helpful ty you explain so well
Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you so much for this teaching!
Thanks for watching!
Can you do a video about crate training with no food? My dog is not food motivated. I just want her to be able to go in a crate.
What about a toy?
I think he has actually done a video on crate training before?
My one pup loves treats but the other is only motivated by toys and affection. I realized that she liked toys immediately but I remember the first time I realized that she is most motivated by hugs and pets. I have those all the time, everywhere. lol
Sorry, I didn't see the part about "without food". Definitely try a treat like Tom suggests but if not toy motivated either, you could try having the crate open at both ends and use a leash to have the dog go through it to see that it's not something scary. Then you close the one end and bring the dog in and out and then close both ends. Just another suggestion.
Great video thank you! So the stimulation is just beeping and the pager is the vibration?
No, watch again!
Thank you! I appreciate your knowledge and that you are so generous with sharing. Wish you were located on my side of the country:)
Love it! Can we get some intermediate work and advanced work? Like after the first week of conditioning. After the into stage?
Great video and explanation.
Super helpful.
Can’t see how these ‘cause pain’ - look how happy that dog is!
People don't know how to use them :)
Agreed
Great video, Tom. Merry Christmas
Awesome video! I’ve subscribed because of this video amazing work! Very informative
Great stuff!
Excellent, important training video❤
Just bought a collar for my dog now. She doesnt listen off leash so this will be great.
This was a great intro video! Great job!
Awesome video! Thank you for everything you do !
Thank you very much for this video. How would you used the E collar for a barkind dog. My neibours are tired of my Pug barking for no reason.
Dogs very rarely bark for no reason. You’re dog is very likely bored.
Can you do this with a vibration collar? And if you can, is there any vibration only collar that you would recommend? Here in Sweden electric is illegal with heavy penalties unfortunately.
Thank you for all your videos and merry christmas!
I might do this in the futre!
@@tomdavisofficial oh sorry, my question was badly worded. I simply wonder if you think it is possible to achive the same result with the same teqnique but with a vibration collar. My bad! :)
I have the same situation, can only buy a vibration collar, so I would also love to know if there is a proper technique for using it@@darvishgoude3836
Cheers
So when training is done do they listen without collar?
Thank you Tom! Great info here.
It helped huge training my Turkish Kangal. Very-very useful video!
If I'm just learning how to train, my pet is probably not already trained as well. How do you start?
Apologies for the silly question, so the electric shock vs vibration, which one is to use during the intro and have less pain? which one for correction extreme behaviour?
Tysm for the knowledge
Glad it was helpful!
The collar is also electric or just vibration, and the dog is trained with vibration or with electric shocks.
I've been doing this, but she doesn't respond to the corrections once she's fixated on other dogs or animals. Prey drive is through the roof. I turned it almost all the way up after going up by increments by 10 several times and she clearly felt it but not enough to break her fixation
So at what point is the vibration setting used? What is the purpose of that function if the stim is main use?
Thank you, a very informative video.
This is a great video. Im going to start using an Ecollar on my heeler pitbull mix. Hes 2 years old, and extremely protective and turns into aggression. Anybody have tips or advice in that area? Hes bit me, my fiance and his daughter and gets very aggressive when you try to punish him. I’ll start with basic training commands to get used to the collar but if anyone has any more tips
