I commend Janelle on the graceful way she handled the comments that were critical of her. She was graceful, which is difficult when someone chastises you publicly and especially rare in our uncouth society. You go, girl!

Janelle, I saw something that might help in the future. A lady was taking the ink cartridge out of the Sharpie, holding it with the needle nose pliers and then taking a syringe filled with alcohol, and shooting that directly into the ink casing and kept doing it this way to fill up her bottle. She was ending up with practically clean white cotton or whatever that substance is. I wish I had seen her video first because I made one heck of a mess !

FYI, if you are leaving it open in a cup overnight, your measurements will differ because of evaporation. Alcohol evaporates quickly (hence the wonders of alcohol inks lol). Doing it in the bottle will get you less alcohol loss. =D

After you do a couple of videos you will be a whiz! Just keep on doing what you're doing. You are great and I thank you for sharing your information. Oh also, it's very nice that you replied to almost every comment made. I also noticed that some of the folks making comments don't spell very well so maybe they should try to improve themselves. Thank you for putting the video together. Please don't feel I am being rude or negative with my next comment, because I've never done a video but would like to try, my suggestion would be to do a trial run first. Give only important information, I don't need to know how many bottles you are going to do repeatedly. There were few times I wanted to pull the words out of your mouth. I have not seen the other videos yet but will. I guess after watching several videos of same thing to see if there was added information I became impatient. I honestly give you huge credit for doing the video, I learned some good information. If I ever get brave enough or smart enough to do a video I think I'd give it a few tries first to clean up any kinks. I'd write down things I'd not want to forget and keep it near as a way to keep things moving. And like the cooking shows they show ya how to put it all together but have one ready to cut right into. Thank you again and I'm glad you trashed the gloves. Lol ps do you have access or ever used gloves in a bottle?

I don't feel like you are being rude at all. I appreciate the constructive criticism. This was one of my first videos so I hope I have learned a lot since then. I tend to give a lot of unnecessary information- even just in conversations!! Something I am working on for sure.

@Awenda I'm not trying to get into it with you but I felt I should say something. Firstly you can't really say " no one cares what you think" because for one that's what the comment section is for and 2 that would then also include your comment lol. 🤔 When reading that persons comment I felt the same way as you initially, maybe not to that extent though. But when reading it all, everything she said was exactly what I was thinking when watching the video. And if anything I actually found your comment more jarring then hers. It felt very aggressive 😣. Even the person who's channel it is appreciated it meaning she did care lol. There's only so many ways that you can leave a constructive comment without it sounding rude to someone even if that isn't the intention. Without criticism we can't improve as effectively. Schools are basically a home of critics ha. 👍🏾 ☺

    what a mess 😂😂😉
i put the inside of the sharpie in cut sises directly in the spraybottle and also the sharpy point.
Fill the bottle with alcohol and shake it.
put it away for a few ours and its ready.
when the bottle is empty i fill it again with some alcohol an i have a second bottle with a light pastel color.
when thats empty.... i take with a pincet the sharpi base out of the spraybottle and make again a similar color in the same bottle.

Just a couple of things, altho I noticed others have said something about it too. Prepare b4 your video, looking for things during the process can make ppl leave. A lot of the time ur making decisions too during the video have a plan b4 you tape would help you immensely. You had a lot of good ideas, it's just the execution of the video was choppy. If you streamlined you'd probably have lots more followers. Oh about the gloves, look 4 the latex type u can get them in sizes, get a slightly smaller glove than your hand. That way they're tight fitting & u can do way more. Without doing that to your poor hands. I used to not care what I got on my hands either. I'm older now & found out that all those chemicals, even coloring ones, the alcohol doesn't hurt but colors have things in them that may surprise you. Those add up in your body & can damage you. So, take it from someone who walked around with dyed hands too. Gloves are the better way.!!! I hope this helps you

It’s not being rude, it’s trying to help keep people watching. The more people watch, the more they subscribe and view. It’s in Janette’s interest. The ideas are great but the execution is a bit long winded. Try and prepare because people don’t have time to sit through rambling, sorting, looking for. I subscribe because I love the videos, but I do tap the sides to move them on a bit. This was a great idea and one that everybody into alcohol ink art should watch.

The opening word is either what, if you count the title or I. Neither is rude The reply could have been written more constructively but I n essence is correct. The videos are good and helpful and I lust fast forward. Lots of people would give up watching. I want the videos to succeed and get more subscribers and the way Rio do it is to prepare in advance and be a bit more together in presentation. It would get more hits, subscribers and be better for her and us.

Great job on your video! I also watched another crafter a few years ago making these, so I tried it, loved all of the different colors & I found my little spray bottles at the Dollar Tree where you get 3 for $1.00, but that crafter also showed how to add sparkly mica powders if you wanted any of your colors to be sparkly. Anyway, I now save my Easter dyes to put into spray bottles along with a few other items that I’ve experimented with & love the colors. Thanks for taking the time to make this awesome video & to get your correct marker colors from the internet, you have to have info off of the original packaging they came in because I threw my packaging out long before making my sprays, so there are a lot that I don’t have the color name for, but that’s how we learn is from making mistakes right...🙂👍🏻. Take care, 🎀 Lily 🎀

You can get a six pack of water color tubes for about $4.00 at Walmart hobby lobby or Micheals. You only use a pinch of the paint for 2 0z bottle about 1/8 of n inch .

I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?

I got permanent markers from the Dollar Tree 8 colors and a 32oz 91% Isopropyl alcohol at Meijer like Walmart.
I got a medicine syringe from the pharmacy for free.
After opening the marker I dropped the Nib in the bottom of the bottle, draw up 1 dropper of alcohol and pressed it into the drier end of the ink tube with the wet end in the bottle. I squeeze as it turns white to force the ink out the other end. Usually 1 syringe is all it takes to be a totally white core.
Much less messy and the marker can be reused if you want. You can add alcohol if you want.
For $9.35 I got 3 sets of markers and 3 -3pks of bottles at the Dollar Tree and the Alcohol from Meijer and have 8 colors of ink. It works great!
I tried Sharpie. No difference in the ink at all.

    • @JanelleNichol

+Linnie Elle ASMR it depends where you live. For me, it is quite hard to get any alcohol ink at a store. I just have a michaels in my city. They don’t get much new alcohol inks in so I need to order it usually. That can take time & shipping costs. I live in what would be considered a remote norther Canadian city. So for me, it is cheaper because even when I can buy alcohol inks they are usually more expensive than they would be in a major Center.

Thanks for watching! I do actually have a much shorter video tutorial of this that I filmed as this was on of my first videos & way too long. It would definitely be worth it to try to revive dried up markers! That’s a good idea! I guess it depends on the person & where they live. For me, alcohol inks are not easy to get where I live & they aren’t cheap. I used these sprays on a big mural I was doing & so for that it was much cheaper than the manufactured inks. And actually, it doesn’t take nearly as long as I make it out to be in this video. This one is kind of a disaster. I tried to do this about a year ago but barely remember the steps I took. I didn't watch any tutorials, I basically put a marker (without taking it apart) in a container of rubbing alcohol and let it sit a day or two. I noticed a lot of gritty-looking stuff in it, I'm not sure what it was but it looked like kool-aid chunks that didn't get mixed in well. I am positive I did something wrong, I didn't put a lot of effort into it. I will definitely be trying this method, though.
A question...do you think another brand of permanent markers would work? I'm thinking the cheap Dollar Tree markers, but am unsure of the quality of the ink in them. I have Sharpies but if I don't have to spend as much on the marker that would be great.

Hey Janelle!! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but just wasn’t sure if I wanted the mess or even the cost of bottles, sprayers and droppers. But when I saw your video and found out about the hand sanitizer I checked Walmart and I can get a 12 pk of hand sanitizer with sprayer tops for $20.43!! I think that’s not a bad price for the bottles, sprayer and even the hand sanitizer that I will use anyway!! Btw...what about the 70% alcohol vs the 99% alcohol? Could you tell any difference? I did notice that with the blue you made the core of the marker seemed like more of the color was out then the hot pink you done the day before with the 70%. I guess you would really have to to do the same color with one of the 70% and the other 99% to see if it really makes a difference. Anyway you really had an awesome idea about the hand sanitizer bottles!! I can’t wait to see what you make with all those beautiful colors of alcohol inks!! Thanks for sharing!!! 🦋

A way to keep your bottle head from clogging, turn the bottle upside down and spray it until nothing comes out. After everything is finished coming out of it pump it a few more times so that air is the only thing that comes out(you're flushing the line) then wipe off the spot where the ink comes out. I was having the same problem with my spray paint cans when I was trying to do my street art. That and dunking the tip down in paint thinner to keep the end completely clean of paint or alcohol ink

    • @JanelleNichol
      @JanelleNichol  4 года назад +1

+jsinprtn29 yes I do that with spray cans. These spray bottles are a little different though because of the glitter that they have in them.
