i do acrylic fluid painting but have recently started tinkering with alcohol inks. loved this video! Question: I have a lot of alcohol left over from the pandemic but its 99%. does that effect the inks vs. 91%?
Yes, you can use 99%. Be super careful because the fumes are MUCH stronger than 91%. I would use a respirator with that stuff.
Hi Clara....is a blow dryer or heat gun better to use. I’m just beginning to use alcohol inks.
I primarily use a small travel blow dryer. I have been putting a list of supplies on my videos in the descriptions because of all the inquiries. I find the travel dryer works great. The low setting is just perfect for me. BabylissPro Travel Dryer - amzn.to/39jepiI

Alcohol hard to come by by by by. Like I'm in a tunnel. Ethy, Isopropyl and methanol are all an option white spirit or any mineral spirits. Turpentine, naphtha, toluene, MEK, DMF or any other gycol ether is all sorta rank one. There's a list of alternatives too but you focus too much on that one alcohol whilst all of these would work.
very good comparison. I want to start working with alcohol inks on wood but my biggest doubt is what type of paint to use as a base (that is, the white base)
on wood? you don't use alcohol inks on that kind. it's for glossy stuff like mirrors, glass, glossy paper, yupo paper.
If I want to use alcohol inks on top of wood, I will add something with a gloss coat on the wood first. Alcohol inks like things that are slick.

So basically, they both are worth having depending on the look you need for your specific artwork.
Yup, it is up to you and how you feel comfortable working. However with white, I would highly recommend using this over alcohol.
Here in Hawaii we have to make our on Alcohol inks and blending solution(91% alcohol & glycerin). Because no one will ship it here because it restricted
That's cool. RezinArt pigments can be mixed in with alcohol and used as an alcohol ink. However the pigments will be on the surface of your board and will need to be sealed in. Highly recommend resin over them. ArtistTillDeath.com sells the pigments. Use code "howdy" to get an additional 5% off.

I wouldn't do it. 91% is best or 99% (a bit pricey but available). Blending solution is easier to find right now. Single bottle amzn.to/2DjQQMn and 2 bottles amzn.to/3fwe6E2 I have other links in the description of most of my videos.
ever since I use Tim Holtz yupo paper I don't use any kind of alcohol or solution
Thank you for doing this comparison! I've just recently begun dabbling in alcohol inks, and I can't buy the 91% Isopropyl. I have actually been using the 70% Isopropyl until it's gone. I had one bottle of the blending solution but didn't realize it can be used exactly like the Isopropyl. This was extremely helpful, and I really enjoyed the video.
You are very welcome. I had heard a bunch of people talking on a live that I moderate for about the struggles of getting alcohol and it made me start thinking about alternatives. I'm very glad that helped.
Are you wearing a mask? Also note that alcohol can ignite with heat or fumes.
My studio is large and the ceilings are high. A lot of air circulation. I will also take a break and air it out if I've worked on lots of pieces.
I say the 91% and Tim Holtz is about the same. since 91% u can get a big ass bottle for under a $1 and Tim for a tiny bottle for $7 it's not worth it at all. even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't do it. I do have both but rarely use Tim's.
At the time I did this video, alcohol was no where to be found because of covid. But was available was blending solution. So, that is the reason I made the video for those who still wanted to use the medium but couldn't find alcohol.
