Thank you, thank you Laural. This is a great video for what to and not to do.They all are so pretty.
I am just over 4 minutes into this vid and am SO APPRECIATING YOU for speeding everything up and adding a voice over.
There are so many videos I can't through because i get bored and am like, "Next!".
Also, you're easy to listen to. Quick vid, concise tips. Thank you.
AWE thank you so much Dana!
Alcohol Inks have become my latest obsession and I love playing with these beautiful colors.
I have recently (2 days ago) received these piñata inks and had a very brief play with ipa. Loved them, but find you really need to have a wet surface to get them moving. Really good with foil technique. Thanks for the inspiration xxx
Nice. Looking forward to the series. I just started playing with alcohol inks as well. I made some night skies for Christmas cards this year. They turned out beautiful.
I love how animated you are, I'm having so much fun watching and learning!
Oh, how yummy! Looks like so much fun to make and stunning results!
I have alcohol inks but had not used them yet. You make me want to get them out! I love what techniques you used (and some lack there of), my favorite was just what it does with just plain alcohol onto the alcohol paints! Can't wait to see what else you do!
I love this quick help on how to use alcohol inks. I got them but have been hesitant to use them yet. Now I'm looking forward to trying them.
I love working with alcohol inks, too! You've made beautiful backgrounds. I'm just seeing this video 11/20/20. I'm excited to see the cards you made from these backgrounds. Thanks for sharing.
What fun🤗. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Beautiful panels! They must have made gorgeous cards! I just found you, so now I have to find your other videos!
You just made my day! You invented techniques Tim Holts never even heard of. You’re such a hoot. I LOVE how your backgrounds turned out. I can’t wait to see what you make with them, or is this it, backgrounds? LOL
Thqnks so much Laurel - first time watcher - have bought my inks but have not ventured to the paper yet - thanks so much for sharing your own learning curve with us. All looks so exciting - can't wait to get started!
What a great tutorial! They all turned out great. Very few of mine look like that. I will try your techniques. Thanks.
I have inspired me to try my inks that I purchased months ago lol
Thank you
The blending solution is basically alcohol and glycerin. There’s a RUclips video that shows how to make your own. The glycerin slows down the drying process and also helps move the pigment. Great video! I can’t wait to play with my alcohol inks!!! 😊
I was just about to search how to make my own! Thank you!!!
Arijana Lukic my pleasure! 🤗
Correct. There's no resin in the blending solution.
Laurel I love the way you demonstrate to us crafters what we need to get fabulous inked backgrounds using simple tools/equipment but making sure that we and our crafting areas stay clean and tidy too. Great techniques I will definitely be trying out thank you Laurel. :o)
Thank you for passing along the tip about the blending solution & mixatives! I'll have to give that a try. Like you, I wasn't super-impressed with the mixatives. Guess that was my problem! Looking forward to more videos from you, Laurel! I hope things are going better for you now. You sounded like your "old self" here--good! :)
These are beautiful. I am very new to alcohol and saw this on you tube. Love, love, love it.
So happy you enjoyed!
One of the best technique videos I've seen thus far. Have you tried to make your own alcohol inks by chance? I can't afford to buy all of the colors I want so I'm going to try to do homemade inks and also homemade blending solution. What beautiful effects you got. New subscriber after seeing this. Hehe! Thank you so much!
❤️❤️❤️ this video Laurel!! Alcohol inks are such fun and I love that we can clean up a "mess" and pretty much start over! Can't wait to see what you create with these beauties. Thanks so much for sharing! ~HUGS~
#kindnessmatters
Creatively cool!!
Thanks to much for all your tips You inspired me so much!!
I have the best time playing with alcohol inks! I did learn some new tricks from you! The backgrounds are beautiful! TYFS
Amazing! I’m trying each technique!
Woo hoo!
So very pretty!! You have such an inviting way of demonstrating! Thanks! I want to get my basic supplies and create!
Great job!
I’ve had my alcohol inks for a couple weeks now but I was afraid to use them because I didn’t know how lol!! I don’t know what I was afraid of!! I’m gonna go try ‘em right now!!! Thanks Laurel!!! Any tips for a newbie anyone? What’s the most affordable yupo paper?
To replace the Heat Gun, try with Air Duster
What are the advantages/disadvantages to using mixatives vs. alcohol inks?
Wow. Those pieces were gorgeous. You could publish a book with your techniques. { I would purchase one!} . I subscribed to your channel and can't wait to see more.
beautiful ! thank you for sharing
Many thanks for these great lessons. I haven’t tried inks yet but hope to soon. I will be looking out for you next video. Cheers Marie ‘downunder ‘
Oh my, I had you come up on my feed as I watched youtube on my TV. I hadn't been sub'ed to you before (I am now) and I was so impressed with you I actually stopped the video and pulled up my laptop so I could comment directly to you. I've been using AI's for a very long time but I tell you what, I still learned some things by watching you. For one thing I have decided I am definitely going to go buy some PIinata inks as I"ve always used Rangers and have all of his colors but he still doesn't have some that Pinata does. ANyway, just wanted to jump on here and tell you thank you so much for a great video and I am anxious to see some of your other videos now as I am a new sub'er.
Oh my! Thank you so very much! This comment just made my day!!
Thanks for sharing! This is my first alcohol ink video.
I am going to try this!
Oh.My. Goodness. so cool!! Thanks for sharing! just found your channel and love your work! -Marta
Thank you for this great tutorial!
Soy nueva en tu canal . Este es el primer vídeo que te veo y me ha encantado!!!!😍 😘😘
Love this video and I love you. You are such a Joy. Alcohol inks are my favorite techniques to work with. So much fun~~~
I could watch you all day...no matter what you are doing....why....because you my me smile and giggle....you are a star 🌟....love Jane North Wales UK 🇬🇧 😀 x
Very interesting, thank you!
Wonderful, thank you
Great video!
The pinata gold you used. Do you need to shake it up? I tried to use mine and it just left a big clump?
Alcohol inks have become a passion/addiction. Have 3 tins filled with them and lots of yupo and plummers tape. 🌻
New to using Alcohol inks straight on to paper...can one create with the inks on canvasses?
You’re so cute! I love your commentary and you made me laugh :) thanks for all the info
HI LAUREL! I laughed so hard....I teach online courses with Alcohol Inks and have the hardest time pronouncing Pinata inks too. :) What a great channel you have! :) Newly subscribed.
HAHAHAHA!
Amazing. Gorgeous. What fun
Fantastic! Can do on a canvas if you seal it first?
You're so cute, the way you sound like you're having so much fun with these. Thanks, great informative video!
Very cool
You are brilliant 👏 and funny....thanks Jane 😊
What does the paper look like on the other side?
Awesome
Yep i know this is old. I just did my first attempt last night and I was up until 3. I would a batch then leave it then i kept thinking of different ways to get different affects. This is addictive lol you sounded like you were have so much fun.
I love your panels, they are truly beautiful! I've tried doing the alcohol inks on yuppo, and I loved the results. Where I ran into problems was when it came time to stamp on the panel. For some reason I could not EVER get a good impression, no matter what ink I used. *even using the MISTI multiple times* Hence (for me anyway) I ended up only being able to use the backgrounds as that. I could die cut or cut them up or cut an image and place on top, but I could never directly stamp on them. Did you have this problem?
Mary, I posted a card on my blog stamping on a background, take a look! This will be my next video in the series! www.laurelbeard.org/stamping-on-alcohol-inked-background
thanks for your reply. Your stamping looks great. The stamps I was using are from a company called Lavinia stamps. Maybe because the image I was trying to stamp is a large solid image it didn't adhere well? oh well, thanks for responding..I'm encouraged to try again! ;)
Love what you did in this video.
I am curious what do you do with these once they are dry?
I wasn't sure if they can be applied to tumblers ir are they decirative cards?
Frame some of them as art pieces! You could probably mod podge them over tumblers. The yupo paper is slippery so a matte mod podge would probably work. Maybe a few layers of it!
Instead of this paper can i do it on canvas ?
I'd love to make alcohol ink backgrounds properly, but mine are always a mess - I never get those cool lines/cells that you did. Do you prep each sheet of yupo with the alcohol first before applying the inks?
Nope, I just put the alcohol ink down first and then added drops of alcohol. A little of each goes a long way!!!!
I must done something wrong, my ink just did not move at all ? I wonder if I used the wrong side of the yupo paper? #2 try I used the other side of the paper and still not working? what did I do wrong?
If your paper is absorbent it won't move much. I've been using a bottle with alcohol to help with movement
TFS from USA
Didn't realize this video was nearly 4 years old but it's still so relevant. Have you since tried any other mediums with your alcohol inks? I've done water, vellum, acetate and the underside of photo paper. I've just learned you can use them on the Gel Press so looking forward to doing that and I might break down and try it on Yupo - I'm afraid I'll like the yupo too much lol
HAHA. I haven't tried them on the gel plate yet, or acetate. I always just reach for yupo or the hard panels made to hold alcohol ink! I should try it!
Would this work with actone instead of the alcohol?
I am not sure. I have never tried that.
Please tell me how to seal your project of alcohol ink.. Shirley
I use a matte fixative spray (amzn.to/2Sd6Na7) - Spray outside or near window as it smells!
Alcohol ink is VERY light sensitive. For permanent projects it is really important to spray a UV protective coat after the fixative
Hot mess = Beautiful cards!
Wait, didn't you say at the beginning of the video to never ever spray alkohol because its inflammable but at 7:04 you do spray it? because I thought it would be pretty to spray but then after your warning wanted to never do it. I#m a little bit conffused :o But your videos and techniques are great, love the thing with the straw!
You can spray regular Isopropyl Alcohol. You can NOT spray alcohol inks or blending solution as they contain resin.
What’s a mixative ? Does it say mixative on the bottle? I don’t get it. Lol. Please explain further.
A mixative from ranger. It does say mixative on the bottle. It sort of sits on top of the alcohol ink instead of mixing/blending with other colors. It is thicker.
I do spray my inks with a mister and set them on fire on a tile. 👁
Go Reign!
At 7:44 there seems to be a baby in the upper right corner. Amazing!
👌😍
Can u do this on canvas?
It has to be a surface where the alcohol inks can move. A canvas is too textured. Maybe there is some kind of finish you can put over the canvas..... I am not sure. I tried Gesso and it did not work.
@@LaurelBeard Prime canvas with a Binnser or Kilz product ...works great!!!!!
Yesss!!! Prime canvas with Zinsser (BiN) or Kilz2 ...works GREAT! :-)
Do drink wine, lol, just kidding. Love your laugh.
I use an airbrush to move the ink around and you can work it much linger. The 99% alcohol is the best to use.
There isn't papers more big? :/
Yes, you can get larger sheets.
I thought the alcohol had to be 91% or higher
I don't use that percentage and it works fine for me!
put down the paint brush!
J
It looks just making mess and wasting inks.
