Hello Leslie, after watching your video I made my ink by just placing the ink cartridge directly into the spray bottle. I didn’t cut the plastic to open the ink cotton up, I just gave it a good shake every hour or so for a couple of days and my results were exactly like yours but without the mess. I didn’t make a video but I guess I can shoot some photos to show you the outcome. When I post the photos I will tag you in my photo video.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I so wanted to do some projects using alcohol ink but funds have been a bit short. Had all the tools required and a set of sharpie markers. All I needed was the alcohol. Used 90%, 91% not available locally. Deviated from your tutorial a bit... Soaked the sharpie pieces in 1oz of alcohol squeezed out excess, then soaked again in another 1oz of alcohol to get every bit of color from the sharpie. There looked to be a bit more color left to get So... I Soaked the pieces again in 1oz alcohol for a pastel version of the color. Had a bunch of plastic dropper bottles I had cleaned and saved from my eye drop prescription, that I was going to use for another project. Labeled the bottles and was good to go, make sure you put a piece of transparent tape over the lettering (if not the lettering will be gone by the second use.

you can get permanent markers at some dollar stores they are about $2 for 10-12 markers in a pack. Store bought alcohol inks cost about $12 for 3 - 10z bottles with 3 colors. So this is cheaper even if you bought Sharpies because you are getting 2oz and 12 colors that would cost about $50 to just buy the inks.

Why not just soak the cartridges in the spray bottle? You won't lose anything to evaporation, you don't have to pour from bottle to bottle and you can use a hemostat to take them out, if you even do. Thanks for all the information! Great vid.

If you did not cut the cartridge, and just let the ink naturally seep out, then you wouldn't have a problem with fibers, would you? I saw another video where this suggestion was made without any problems being mentioned.

You had quite a bit of ink on your gloves, etc. Why not wipe with, say, rice paper or dry tumble-drier sheets and dab onto plain card or paper as you go. Then you get some free background papers. Not tried it but is just a frugal thought. I’m going to try this process you’ve shared. Should save me many pounds! That gets my vote. Well done and thanks.

Hello, Thanks for your video it's very useful! Big question for you: I live in Europe, in an area where you can't buy spray inks. I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?

I have a box FULL of Sharpies in every color imaginable, but I only use the same few. Cannot wait to get started on this! Thanks so much for sharing.
⭐️May I suggest that after using alcohol on your metal tools, be sure to oil them with silicone or WD40 to prevent rusting. I’m a gardener, and learned that lesson the hard way. 😊

Yay! I made a couple inks last nite after watching this and played a little on a ceramic tile. I LOVE IT!!! I did how ever just leave the inside wick in the alcohol over nite also without splicing down the side. I am using little squirt bottles (??) as our Wal-marts never had those spray bottles, nor did the Dollar stores this round.

Joan that is awesome!! I just transferred mine into little squirt bottles I found in my stash (lord only knows where I got them or how long ago lol) but they work great!! I am gonna make some more for spraying!! love the spray look and the drippy look!! Thanks for watching!!!

I've just seen this for the first time. I was looking for ink colors online, & it would end up costing so much, I wasn't sure I wanted any. Then I came across you diy video, and I'm so happy !! I have most of the tools needed, so I'm going to make my own !! Thank you so much for your wonderful video !! And I subscribed of course ! I'm not sure if you're making videos anymore, I just wanted to show my support !
    Love you !! 💕😍

What a great way to use up dying marking pens! I have wondered if the same can be done with watercolor palettes. Going to try!

Great video, what an eye-opener! I've been wanting to try alcohol inks for a while but been put off by the cost - I couldn't justify it in case it became yet another thing in my craft stash that I might not get to use for lack of space. I have a big container of rubbing alcohol though, and if I buy some Sharpie pens I can have a go at a sensible price. Brilliant. Thank you!

Is rubbing alcohol 91 percent? I was thinking it was much less.

So informative! Newbie's like me have to know the basics. Question: I could not find white ink so I got calligraphy ink and mixed with alcohol. I also found the metallics in calligraphy. I dropped a ball bearing in with the metallics and filled with alcohol 97%. Do you think that would work?

Just a question. Do not know if it was done before, read a lot of comments and did not find what I would like to know, here it goes. Can I use regular coloring cheap markers, not permanent? Or food coloring?

So I am wondering what you use the ink for. I am a painter. I am wondering if painting with the ink could be possible. What do you use the inks for? I am very behind in scrapbook and things. 🌵🤠🌵🤠🌵
