    I'm sorry but I really have to disagree with this false advertising of blending solution. I've had great success with using regular isopropyl alcohol to blend ink and in your example you weren't actually moving the inks around with a dryer or air gun or straw etc... you just threw on some isopropyl alcohol and yes it will look like it's bleaching the inks but you need to work the alcohols and that takes skill and time. Cheers 🎨

      All the videos I have watched, done by experts, use rubbing alcohol. It works beautifully, and they never mention a blending solution at all.

    Thanks for tips! It took me awhile to figure out what surfaces do or don’t work. Your tutorial saves much time and resources.On trick i “discovered” though is to take yupo or glossy cardstock and spread on a layer of acrylic gel medium and while still wet add drops of alcohol ink. Then you can take your favorite modeling tools and lightly draw designs in the gel medium and watch the colors swirl around; they may run together and look like mud but somehow when it dries the colors separate and form a textured marbleized effect. I like to then take the sheet and either punch out shapes or run it through the die cut machine to make embellishments for cards.

    You can use isopropyl for blending... All I used is just 91% and up. For diluting, cleaning, blending. I just put it in a cup and use a brush...

  • @maureenlee6526

    Good tips. Photo paper can be used if you put your inks on the back side of the paper and it’s almost identical to using Yupo. Not all photo papers work, but I believe my HP papers did the trick. Also, the best gold ink out there is the Jacquard - Piñata brand - it is very beautiful and shiny and much prettier than the Ranger gold.

    • @maureenlee6526
      @maureenlee6526 5 лет назад +2

      Nancy Lynn There’s a greater palette with the Ranger colors and they’re more translucent than the Jacquard, so those tend to be my go-to colors. For Gold, it’s almost always the Jacquard.

    Some of this I knew, but seeing the difference of alcohol and the solution was helpful. I used alcohol inks and pearls on Core'dinatons Glitter Prints and die cut some feathers. WOW did that ever turn out cool. It's fun to play with the inks and use your dies to get a one of a kind look. Happy Crafting!

    Thanks for the updated tips on using alcohol inks. I have used the plain inks years ago on some kind of glossy photo paper with fabulous results. I did a little research then and found out there is a thin smooth coat of clay on some photo paper. Those never turned out well! I do not know what paper the good stuff was. From the looks of Yupo papers results being more confined and don’t appear to spread out beautifully I like the results from Tim holtz’s paper better. Yupo is new on the scene so we used what was available and that was photo paper or clear acetate. Those projects turned out gorgeous when stamped over the top. I would love to see what more can done for backgrounds. Thanks!

      Lisbet Cox I completely agree with you. The back side of some photo papers, such as HP, work almost identical to Yupo. It’s great to use while learning and practicing alcohol ink techniques and the paper is easy to glue down into projects, because it is paper, not plastic.

      @@personalestok6693 yes! Go with very specifically, Staples Brand Basic Photo Paper. Red box with a kid in a ball pit on the front. So many photo papers don't work because we use the BACK side and not all are treated the same. This one SPECIFICALLY had a light resin coating on the back that behaves exactly like yupo. I'm an alcohol ink instructor and this is what we use in my course exclusively. No, I'm not affiliated.

    Mixatives don't just stay in one spot - even in your demo they spidered out on the Yuko. I use mixatives in the same way that I use alcohol inks for some amazing designs. A great effect is created when you drop a few drops of mixative on your alcohol ink then add a drop of blending solution.

    I did a test of Yupo paper and photo paper and now only use the photo paper, the non glossy side. I love the results so much I have a hard time turning them into cards as i want to keep them all and I am not an artist. So much more affordable as well. I also use my reinkers for my spectrum noir alcohol markers which have a huge color range and are far less expensive. I feel like I am watching a commercial for ranger here. Pity.

    • @katstoybox
      @katstoybox 5 лет назад +8

      Yeah, the 'look I'm a Ranger product commercial!" vibe is way too strong. I can barely watch most of HH's videos. Doesn't even mention that you can also use poster board, which also behaves very similarly to Yupo but only costs pennies a sheet instead of dollars. Plus it's actual paper so both are less wasteful plastic garbage at the end of its life cycle.

    Here is my question. I recently did a large painting on a patio door we had replaced on our home. I tried two different alcohol inks in white. But every time no matter what the solution when I mixed the white into the clear glue to apply to the class. The white ink would instead of going milky. It would separate! Never actually creating a nice milk glass of fact. But rather looking like snot. Any advice? Thank you

      What's the water content of your glue? That's most likely your problem. Alcohol ink does not play well with water-based products. It's why she's using 91% isopropanol instead of 70%.

    I actually don't use the Ranger mixatives anymore. I thought they were dull and took away from the beauty of the alcohol inks.

    Question: I noticed that the color rubs off the yupo and graphix surface once dry. Am I doing something wrong, or does it need to be sealed. Another thing I wish I knew.... :)

    • @moonmagnolia7

      It needs to be sealed with Krylar varnish spray and then Krylar UV protection spray

    I have a great tip, thanks to Nichol Sporh. I was disappointed in the metallic mixatives , they just didn’t spread. On one of her videos, Nichol used piñata gold alcohol ink. Big difference. Piñata is the answer

    Please make a video sharing the color combinations of alcohol inks which won't create muddy colors..

    • @karenrichardson6767
      @karenrichardson6767 5 лет назад +4

      You will only have mud if you are using two complimentary colors together with the blending solution. Green and red, orange and blue, yellow and purple. Having a color wheel helps.

    Interesting tips, thank you. I'm loving the subtitles, apparently you are working with alcoholics and using the Copic alcohol markers to make pants! (Presumably for them?) Isn't technology wonderful? I am yet to get to grips with alcohol, I'm still at the "why did that go all over the place?" stage, but I will get there.

    Hi dear why we can’t work on canvas?

    • @Perivale
      @Perivale 4 года назад

      The alcohol will be absorbed by the canvas, whereas with yupo paper the alcohol spreads out. It sits on top of the paper.

      You can, you just have to seal it first with a spray sealant.

    So what is the deal. Some people don't wear a mask or respirator while others say it's completely foolish not to wear one. Which is it? And your space doesn't look ventilated. I don't hear any fans or anything like that. Shouldn't you be promoting ventilation at the least?
