@@randompolygon8401without spoiling anything onk hasn't reached its peak yet. Almost all of the manga readers agree that the first volume( which the first episode adapted) is the weakest because there are so many great character moments which will easily surpass first episode if adapted properly.
So yeah if you think onk reached its peak in first episode then you are mistaken my guy.
But if you're one of those people who want someone dying and fighting every episode then yeah onk peaked at first episode

Aot literally Dominated The list 🔥
Steins 0 first episode but no og steins gate is crazy to me. Especially on rewatch you can well from the first episode that Steins gate's plot was very well thought out and interconnected (not higher than first episodes from shows like AOT and To your eternity though)

Not going by ratings, I think that Yu Yu Hakusho has the best first episode in all of anime, got me emotional and shit (I watched it last year tho i havent finished), intriguing plot as well.
Ngl Blue lock and Aot are the only animes that developed interest in me since the first ep!!

Episode 1 had always been used to get viewers hooked into the show immediately.
But, why some other masterpiece anime dont get their episode 1 in here??
The reason is simple, the author planned ot differently.
Some author planned to make it super hype at peak using episode 1 to pull viewers in and the rest will be decided by the plot after that.
While, we have some author who probably had this kind of mindset i can understand
"We don't get viewers immediately hooked up first, we use first and first few episodes to build up our story concept and as we continue to progress, we slowly raise the hype bar, down and up and down and up for a longlasting run to get viewers not only excited, but loving the plot, the characters as they witness the progressive development.
That's why whether episode 1 is hype or not doesn't matter, what matter is how the author plan the conflict.
Besides, slowly building up the conflict is actually safest method I would say.
Take Oshi no Ko episode 1 for example, because some viewers get too hyped at the end of episode 1, for some of them at episode 2 it started become a little bit drop for them(fortunately just a few of them dropped because the decrease of the rate). Congrats to thosr who stayed and continued to watch, because the treat afterwards definitely worth it.
Which is why I think whether Oshi no Ko episode 1 movie length type was a good idea or maybe they should had split it into few episodes. But, the author probably expected this and prepared to take it on.
If there are people like me out there who would never drop an anime they picked up since beginning. Congratulations, because you watched every one of those anime where people dropped due to dissatisfaction at conflict, but the ending is something they didnt see yet actually worth it and when they returned, still skipping those previous episodes just to check out final episode, it is their loss because without the build up from previous episodes, ending episode means nothing.

The two that came to mind were oshi no ko and to your eternity so I am happy. Would place oshi no ko above to your eternity but.since it has 1.5 hours that's not to be wondered at

It's usually because people only watch 0 if they've watched/played the original. The main "gripe" with the original is the first few episodes starting slow and not hitting that adrenaline rush until it all goes down. They've probably already made the preconceptions about the original if they've gone through the first 23 to go to 0 and hit the last two episodes of the original.

as a recent csm fan, I think the premiere isn't all that (storywise)
Major Reminder: the more popular the lower the score, more ratings = more accurate score too, but tons of anime have high rated eps cause only fans give it 10s etc which is fine but in a comparison like this its important to keep in mind for example ofc the 1st ep of demon slayer is better especilaly in quality to many above it but has wayy more reviews
another example aot would be my #1 but again check for yourself how maby ratings it has in comparison to oshi no ko
Demon slayer first episode was like 8/10. Most of the top animes on this list are also popular as well, especially oshi no ko since that is like the most popular anime out right now.

it's not top 50, because some shows are missing. akiba maid war is an 8.4, link click is an 8.7, gundam witch is an 8.6 and princess principal also an 8.7.
these would be in the middle of the list. the video wouldn't be longer, because for each of these added, you would take one away from the end.
just say it would have been too hard to include not super popular titles. that's a very understandable reason, and I'm pretty sure is why you did it like this.
plus I'm obviously not actually offended you didn't include everything. it's just a minor bash at missing some titles.
I understand, i've analyzed more than 500 anime 1 by 1 and took only the episodes that had more than 100 votes. It's impossible to include everything as you said, but i'm sure i've missed only few anime that could enter in the top 50 with more than 100 votes.

A lot of recency bias in this list, most of the top-rated shows are recent ones. Their ratings will go down once the craze dies and people vote based on the episode and not the hype. Still not a bad list.

Demon slayer episode one was good but it did nothing to stand out and It was almost predictable from the start about the fate of tanjiro's family.
