I've been on my fitness journey for 4 years now of constant health eating and going to the gym. The hardest part was finding a meal that I enjoyed but also had veggies, easy to make and eat, high in protein and low in carbs. I tired all kinds of weird recipes but in the end the answer I was looking for was something that I had millions of times, staring me in the face. Sandwichs are a hack
I highly recommend baking some chicken breasts and slicing them thin. Just use salt and pepper(even better if you let them dry-brine), so if you play around with your condiments through the week nothing clashes. Baby-Swiss or Lacey Swiss are my favorite cheeses for this. If you can learn to love mustard that will make this even better. Where my own taste clashes with this, are the hack sauces. For me I need regular mayo. So if there’s something in here you don’t like feel free to adjust it.
the main reason why i love making sandwhiches like these when counting my calories / macros: you dont have to cook anything. just take the ingredients out of the fridge, slap em all together, and you're on your way. sandwiches are a God send for people who suck at cooking lol
My son started back to school a few weeks ago, he's been coming home for lunch and wanted a sandwich each day. When he makes his, I make mine, very similar, but I use a lower-calorie wheat bread instead of a baguette. Measure everything out, I use yellow mustard instead of a creamy sauce, which is 0 calories, which allows me to use an extra slice of ham or turkey. Totally worth it. Gonna have to try the baguette instead of the bread soon, especially if I can find a sourdough one!
Love your videos, they are always so educational. Very much embody the phrase "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". Although I don't make all your recipes, I still watch all your videos to learn tips and tricks to make my meals healthier
Nice trick with the bread! However it is not wasted at all, use it for your stuffed bellpeper recipe from your cookbook (instead of the mentioned sandwich bread, works just as well with other types). it's one of my fav reipes from the book, make it at least once a week.
Actually having a sandwich tonight! What a coincidence! So easy and tasty! Sandwiches can be made so differently each and every time! You can mix up the protein, veggies, and sauces + why make it harder, when it’s that easy? Gotta stick to it, and the only reason you’ll do that is if the diet is easy to follow! Great video as always, Felu!
Holy cow! I never thought of digging out the insides of the bread to reduce the calories! Great idea!!! Thank you so much. I LOVE sandwiches and prefer using long bread but use sliced bread because it has fewer calories. I can’t wait to try this.
Sandwiches are way underrated for dieting. My favorite is the "hamburger sandwich". It's just a hamburger made with regular bread slices and my homemade extra lean burger patties with some toppings. I make the patties in batches in my air fryer to freeze for when I need them.
Thank you for the video! The only thing missing, in my opinion, is text throughout the entire video, where calories, grams and other information are gradually described. For me, the text in the video is like points that help to realize the information in the video 🙌🏻
I found another Bresaola enjoyer!!! I've grown so crazy about it as a snack due to satiety that I may just make my own (even though it takes months) haha.
Love Breasola as well, it's only downside is ridiculous price. Some can have up to 35g of protein per 100g. They are a great way to pack a lot of protein into a portable sandwich without making it's soggy like with 150g of some cooked ham.
@@Felu For me usually my snack a small amount of potato salad (or bigger amount if it's homemade with light mayo and much lower cals) and then half bresaolsa, half chicken slices, alternatively pork. This way it's cheaper, and tbh I only need 200-350 cal for a snack anyways. I wasn't kidding btw, you might consider making it yourself to save 10x money.
I have actually been doing this for about a year now. I actually go through the process of cooking chicken breasts and very tediously slicing them thin. It will keep for the week and is much healthier than eating deli-meat every day for a week. Though this is not a huge issue if you aren’t salt-sensitive, like myself. Pre-shredded lettuce, pickles, mustard, tomatoes, and pickled onions are my favorite toppings. I truly am not much of a snacker so I usually just opt in for the regular mayo (Duke’s). That’s the one place you can’t cheat for my taste, condiments. Try not to have more than one oil-based condiment though(ranch, mayo, honey mustard, deli-dressing, evoo.) Also getting some pulled pork and making Cubans is excellent as well. Though it can be high in fat, but the juice can be used to avoid needing other fatty condiments. Another tip is to try and find baby-swiss or Lacey-Swiss. I find they have bit better flavor and texture than regular Swiss. They also melt better. What really makes sandwiches great is variety. The protein stays the same for me but you can have a great variety just by having different condiments. The sub rolls at Walmart are actually pretty decent. Do yourself a favor and keep them at n the fridge. They can mold pretty fast otherwise.
I have to check the calories on roasted red peppers. The jarred ones are bound to be pretty bad for you. Also, this might be an American thing, but pickle spears on the side are great. Especially if you can get Grillo’s Pickles (as of now, only in the USA), or you can pickle your own cucumbers. Without all the additives, pickle spears are an excellent calorie bargain.
The problem with deli meat is that it is processed meat and most of the time contains sodium nitrite. Processed meats are classified as Group 1 carcinogen by IARC, the same category as tobacco smoking and asbestos. Personally, I try to avoid it or choose turkey or chicken deli which some brands make without sodium nitrite, although it is not perfectly clear if the nitrites in the processed meat are the reason why it is carcinogenic.
Thank you for sharing this idea, Felu! It is such a good idea and looks delicious! I never would have thought of removing the soft part of the bread! Definitely going to be using this for a go to meal! Cheap and easy to make! Right up my alley!
Love these videos! I've lost 20lbs in a month using all of these tips. This one reminded me of a restaurant we have called "Bread Zepplin". They take baguettes and cut off one end, spoon out the soft part, then toast it in an oven. After it comes out they stuff it with a salad of your choice! Really delicious and homemade could be really healthy! Thanks for all you do Felu!

Maybe something to be carefull about when counting the calories: the inner dough is less cooked than the outter layer of the bread. Therefore it retains more water and is less dense in calories (at equated weight). Not sure how to properly estimate the calories when removing the bread inner dough
The majority of the empty calories on a deli sandwich are likely to come from the bread, next the mayo if you go heavy on it since it's mostly oil. If you really wanted to be careful, swap mayo for something that spreads smooth like guacamole and get a keto choice for bread. I've been really digging guac lately but I definitely eat too much bread :)
