    Don’t think just listen. You can’t understand two conversations at once. Ask question and break it into chunks. Thanks James.

  • @Asiro-S
    @Asiro-S 4 года назад +79

    1) Don't think, just listen - You can't understand 2 conversations at once.
    2) Ask questions - Engage to be engaged.
    3) Home Practice -
    a. No subtitles
    b. 2-3 sentences
    c. 10x - for beginners/ 3x
    d. Then play sub
    e. Write down sentences you hear to know what you're missing and then practice what you've missed.
    4) Close your eyes and listen.
    a. It will make easier to listen for you, because when you lose one sense (vision in our case), another one's getting better(hearing).
    5) Order to watch movies:
    a. For kids
    b. Stupid comedy
    c. Action Movies
    d. Drama
    e. Dark comedy

    My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

      Cesar Zvala Yup, things out of context are incredibly tough. As a freelancer, I have to deal a lot with the Government via phone, where it's all a series of passwords, names, data, addresses, etc.
      Since they're all random and have no connection to each other is a pain in the ass for me to know if they want me to go to Leicester Square Gardens or Lewster Mare Gardens.

      Because in america live different nation and they have different accent.
      And also in other states of america speak different.
      I am from Moldova and then i came in USA first time i did not knew nothing in english,but after 1 year i can speak 30 -40 % with out trying to watching movies or some thing like that and i can not understant everyone , just some words .
      But i can read 70 -80 %.

    James, English is the 2nd language for me and I have learnt it in school of higer education for 5 years. I have always had problems with listening and understanding (I'm sure you know this type of people :) But I watched this video of yours and understood every single word even when you spoke fleuntly. By the way the advices are good. I liked the 2nd one mostly. Just thank you.
    By the way, I have not found a video about difference between "between" and "among". Could you give your ideas about this as a person who lives among native speakers. Is "between" really about choice between two things or some several things (but definite)?

    Yo guys I have another really good trick!
    I always listen to advanced rappers like Witt Lowry or Logic. Im from germany and 15 (so sorry for my bad english :)
    I decided to understand what they're saying so I can rap with 'em or just get the feel from the song, you know what I mean... :D
    So I opened the Lyrics page (didnt look at the lyrics doe) and took out a sheet of paper. I played the music and stopped it every hmm I think 30 Seconds and wrote down what I remembered and understood, word for word and after that I compared it to the Lyrics. There were really much Words I dont even knew and I learned so much from it, how to spell them, how to write them, I mean today I can almost understand everything and Im the best in my class so I think it works :D
    As you can see I'm still a noob when it comes to write a text (mostly bc of the tenses) but i wont give up learning
    never been one for past tenses so know that im moving forward before i finish this sentence :p

    👇Teacher advice:
    1-) Don't think just listen. (You can't understand two conversation at once)
    Advice: Close your eyes and listen.
    2-)Ask questions (engage to be engage)
    3-) Home practice, (no subtitles, repeat 2,3, 10 times sentences if you didn't understand) then play the subtitles and check.
    Advice: listen, kids program, tv programs like "Friends" and action movie. (Keeping listen with your eyes close)

      How many time did you practice listening. It just because you need more listening. It's called silent period. It takes about 1200 hours until your brain starts to make up the words instantly (will come out on your mouth) and automaticly according the ideas you want to express.
      But don worry, you are in the right way, carry on, and you will see better results :)

    • @thetragicghostking
      @thetragicghostking 10 лет назад

      well.. it's always depends on what you want to learn. If you prefer British English and you think it sounds better, learn British English! If not, American! Personally, I prefer British English.

      @racingtheweb 10 лет назад +4

      Samuel Sebastian Lee
      Hi Samuel, I've got no preferences between American and British English, I like them both. The matter is that British English pronunciation is more difficult to me. At the same time I think that if I'll learn British English (more difficult), I'll learn American one too (easier). Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know :-)

      +qweqeq wqeqweq The first rule I tell my students is don't be afraid of making mistakes. Native speakers realize English is a difficult language to learn. So relax, no one's going to laugh. If you speak English with totally no mistakes, native speakers will know your first language isn't English. :)

    1. Слушать не думая.(В момент когда Вы думаете о чём говорят в вашей голове можно сказать два диалога и вы путаетесь в разговоре)
    2. Разделять длинные речи на части.(Информация поделённая на части лучше воспринимается)
    3. Смотреть фильмы и сериалы без субтитров. Так же разбивать на части и проигрывать несколько предложений(не больше 5) между двумя людьми снова и снова. Так же записывать слова которые именно Вы слышите на слух и сравнить потом с реальными из диалога.(Субтитры только отвлекают от понимания речи)
