@a different dimension That's a great question. You could say it that way. I suppose I used "one" to refer to any person and "a language" to refer to any language he or she may know. I hope that makes sense.
@a different dimension No, because when you're saying "the language", you're talking about a specific language, a language you're familiar with. And when you're saying "a language", you're talking about an unknown language, a language you don't know about, or even talking about something that the languages have in common (or most of them). Understood? I am still a newbie on English, but if you have any other question, you can ask me! 😉

I'm native and do most of this automatically... but i love watching these explanations because although I speak this way, I have no conscious understanding of why. It's so interesting learning how the language works and what it might look like from the outside in. We take so much for granted with language. It will also help me teach others.

thanks a lot, I have two questions. the first: why am I understand you when you speak, unlike a movie for example? ( what I mean are you using simple words and speaking slowly on purpose? ) the second one is, can the verb "like" come with "to"? as you said I like to eat. lastly sorry for my bad English ^^
Hello, I am not teacher but I think I can help you for your second question. When you use verb (like, love, hate ....), you can always follow with ING or TO + INFINITIF. I like to eat = I like eating I love to play football = I love playing football. I have learned that in my school.
