Went to a blocked loo years ago, plunger 🪠 in hand, only to be greeted by the customer having covered the bowl in cling film to seal it with the nozzle of his hoover taped through the cling into the bowl telling me how he had worked out how much pressure he had created using this method, and laughed at the plunger, saying how as his method hadn’t worked mine had no chance, ripped off his cling film, jogged on his hoover, plunged the bog and had it sorted in seconds, smart arse didn’t know what to say, I’ll never forget his face as I left victorious 👌
Ahhhhj the days when you question why you ever decided plumbing was the correct career path... Even though I took the gas safe route 12 years ago, I still love my plumbing and call myself a gas safe plumber other than just gas safe... Too many gas engineers today qualifying without any plumbing skills or background. Keep up the good work bro👍🏾 .
Refreshingly genuine work. Theres nothing quite like that feeling when you realise the waters not stopping! 🤣 Best tip I've had- always keep a couple of stop ends to hand ⛔ Keep em coming matey👍
Great video, honest plumbing, where you don’t have everything but the kitchen sink to hand. When I was an apprentice the fella I worked with had a saying,” anyone can do this job with the right stuff, only a good un gets it done with nowt.”
Hi, love the video - content is great as always. With the rush you had on, would you have done anything differently if you did it again? Also with the pipe travelling diagonal, was this for ease or cost saving?
Lot of questions on a diagonal pipe. To me .. it’s a pipe. It went diagonal for 50 odd years so it can stay that way. If I knew it wasn’t shutting off correctly .. I’d have put a lever valve on the incoming for sure. And made sure I had one with me
@@ParkesPlumbing fair point on the diagonal. I think my question stemmed from seeing all these flash buggers pulling perfect curved and straight evenly spaced etc. Cheers for clarifying and yeah level valve would be good but hindsight and all that. Cheers 🙂
Please could you make it more like Instagram where everything is easy, polished and generally soothing? 🤣 This is like being at work 😂 Whenever I have a situation like this my phone keeps ringing too to add to the stress level.
Good to see the real life stuff mate, this trade isn't all about shiny pipes all the time! I had one where I was meant to be in and out to just run a new PRV discharge. Ended up drilling through the gas supply to the boiler through the wall and had to do an emergency gas run 🤦🏽♂️
Hey, i must admit i did laugh out loud at one point but only through relief that its not just me who has phaf happen to them from time to time unlike the lads who are always maxed out and never get a leak or miss - diagnose a fault etc etc... cheers fella.
Great honest video.... Could you do a video on when you get a phone call to do a job all the way through to pricing up and how you got the job etc I think that'd be a great video
Keep it real brother, far to many Hollywood plumbers on Insta and YT. The real world requires real fixes. Best tip is a regular landlord customer who drops a crate of booze every time I work for him... it’s become a thing 😂
Top tip - carry a good stick of common size compression fittings, blanks and drain plugs on the van (together with a freeze kit). 😉 Must have saved 3 or 4 metres of CU following the old diagonal route.🤣
@@ParkesPlumbing I know the feeling well. I think the key thing is having an emergency sack with the key compression components and never use them for installs. Only for use when your feet are wet.😉🤣
Would have been nice to have seen it run straight with joists instead of following old run. Why not put an isolation valve at start of incoming main and then took your time ?
Don't even need to do that - it's clearly been leaking a while. First thing to do when you turn up is run all the new pipework through and get it ready at both ends - then turn mains off, then switch it over and turn back on. Absolutely no need to turn the mains off before you had the replacement pipe mounted and available... Poor planning is not "real life plumbing"
Facts dis was sloppy af not a pro at all talk about old piping being sloppy made the new runs just as shitty atleast he got it done best thing is def to run new lines den tie them in when ready and use a damn tape measure or run some pex if ur gonna be sloppy af
Yep, that’s reality for you, anyone who’s not had days like that are liars, I’ve had some real nightmares, towels and bucket 🪣 always to hand.keep up the good work, and stay safe. 🤪
I'm not a plumber, but when I DIY stuff I always try to have a couple of each size of compression blanks handy, for that kind of flow rate you could have capped it and gained some thinking time.
@@ParkesPlumbing Hindsight yes, but also expectation. As an amateur I do not have the confidence of hundreds of successful jobs so am much more aware that I am one small mistake away from wet feet. Also as an amateur I don't want to damage my plastering work as that took ten times longer than a professional for me to do!
Oi pal that’s minor compared to my tuesday last week, had a bloody DHW cylinder split on me. Water as hot as you like flying out at me. Ohh mate what a day that was🤦🏽♂️🙄🤣

Hi mate top video could you not have cut it where it came in from the street 1st and put a blank on it to stop it dripping why you did all the other work then done the final connection
Could you not of just put a lever valve on the incoming in the basement to stop the water then continued with the work, take the head of the lever valve so no one can tamper with it, or even put a lockshield valve , future use then
Loved this video as there is too much picture perfect stuff being posted and in my opinion it's nowhere near reality most of the time.cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear and all that so its refreshing to be brought back to the real world.also what's the deal with the pro press do they make a conversion fitting from metric to imperial as I've not signed up to this press malarkey yet .it looks good but are we not just doing ourselves out of a job when every Tom dick and Harry get there hands on the tool.its only the extortionate price tag stopping the DIYers having a go .just a personal opinion but can also see benefit using it for jointing wet pipework
Cheers Mike! .. I couldn’t go back to soldering now after pressing for 5 years .. so much quicker. I believe they do make an imperial fitting but I don’t have any
@@cliveramsbotty6077 the idea was to cut out as much as possible yes the main was passing but he had buckets and had that under control, going to have to be re visited when other joints are compromised should have changed as much as possible not what he could be bothered to change
