That clip of Kelly Rowland gets me every time!! The power!!
Seeing and hearing her voice in that clip let’s me know she could’ve been a bigger star
@@mrrandywatson658 she has zero work ethic, she’s exactly where she needs to be
@@Dedego768 LFNAOAOAOA
@@Dedego768 I must have missed her not performing next to Beyonce. What we’re not about to do is act like because she could already naturally sing that she should’ve been working as hard as Beyonce who’s voice was crap up until 2001
@@ladysasha90 See...y'all can't just celebrate Kelly, without shitting on Beyoncé. Beyoncé has always been the dynamic vocalist(since her teens), which is why she was picked as the lead vocalist by the orginal manager(Andrea Tillman).
Kelly said can you keep up, make me loose my breath 😭! Come through Kelly Rowland and the tri City singers in that throat!
🤭🤣😂 this made me laugh so hard! Not the tri city singeeerrrsss🤣🤣🤣
The Destiny’s Child clip plays in my head at all times. Kelly came in with a whole choir!
🤣 yes she did! IMO she is actually the best singer in the group.
@@summerreign044you know damn well she’s not, when they were in the 90s on the group her and Beyoncé were around the same level but with the time Beyoncé keeps improve and that’s why she gets better than her
Beyoncé ate her in every register
@@afeliz2642 I know what I said and I don't mince my words. If you disagree you disagree. As for me I have and will always know that Kelly is the best singer in Destiny's Child. Record sales and popularity are not always the best barometer for talent.
Kelly Rowland came through like a choir
Whitney Houston possed one of the most widest dynamic range of all pop singers. There truly an operatic standard in her voice.
Whitney Houston had three octaves and a major second, Ann Wilson has 3 octaves and 4 semitones.
@@Spyrit2011 Noack Somewhere is talking about dynamic range, not range. Whitney could go from piano to forte and back on one note. She had the same kind of incredible dynamic control that is required from an opera singer. I think you misunderstood the topic of this video.
@@colly7963 Exactly. They were completely off topic.
Wrong
No she didn’t the perosn with the best dynamics was Beyoncé sorry😭
Kelly is underrated!!! She sound like a whole choir
Kelly’s voice is very soothing .
I actually prefer Michelle's and Kelly's voices over Beyoncé's. On all parameters. Love Beyoncé, too.
However, my personal taste is heavily leaning towards "the other two girls". Michelle's tone is perfect to my ear, I could listen to it forever - whatever she does with it. Kelly's tone and power together are highly enjoyable - I can't get enough of that!
As far as pop singers go I always said Whitney Houston & Chaka Kahn have the best vocal dynamics in pop music history
I love how Whitney is always in your videos 😍
She was def the standard and set the bar very high
I mean she’s the blueprint 😂
She's one of the greatest dynamic singers
She laid the standards down.
I love that you’re intentional about showing BLACK opera singers and Black singers in general. I love it💜💜
Thank you for constantly using Whitney's voice as a gauge, measure or indicator to explain the concepts you're presenting. It makes things so much easier to understand. Whitney's voice covers so much ground in vocal sound, capability and technique that it makes comprehension accessible to all.
The way Beyoncé grabs Kelly’s arm 😭
Kelly came in matching the ambiance of the Mississippi Mass Choir. Lol!
Love Kelly's belts which she would belt out more dance hits
I swear these videos are all blessings to me. I find myself following rules when I’m singing now and I sound so much better. Thank you!
Same!
I love dynamic singing. Everytime I hear it, it makes me feel like a stream of water is flowing through me because of the continual/gradual nature of the voice that I'm hearing
i always go to Jennifer's Gospel Session entrance whenever i feel so drained, Never fails to gimme some POWER! she was like a thunderstorm invading a sunny day
Chile you ain't the only one cause her rendition of his eyes on the sparrow took me out
@@Russell-ji2fl during your live, at first i was kinda disappointed with your assessment on Jennifer's voice but then I realized what you said pretty much sums it up, "SHE SINGS THE GIRLS DOWN". She's just indescribable.
Thanks 4 that comment love Jennifer
Damnnnn Kelly is a whole choir on her own made beyonce and Michelle look like they were yelling 😳 🤯❤love these videos so much!!!! Thank you 💐💐💐
I ALWAYS FELT LIKE THIS TOO!!!!
The number one reason why Beyonce became my favorite singer was simply because of the music!!! Even though Dangerously In Love came out in 2003, I didn't hear it until 2004. That album alone, how the songs were placed, for her to just simply sing, and the way the album made me felt, immediately drew my attention to Beyonce. Even though I have more reasons to love her now, it will always fall back on one thing: the music! Even if she don't release any videos, we have the music!!!! And I'm halt with this!
Thank you for including Shirley Brown not enough ppl know about this underrated Legend
Whitney Houston's dynamics remain unsurpassed in pop music.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the very small handful of pop female artists who performed opera on stage and in records, this is no easy feat. Bless all these women.
Once again, coming through with casually showcasing black singers as an example. Never overlooked, always appreciated. 🔥
Whitney is so missed.
thank you so much for shining light on variety of black singers all the time. we don't see that at all when others videos like this ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kelly gave me goosebumps
All I can say is “come on” when they did that amen. 🙌
I smile every time I get a notification that a new video is up because I know I’m not only going to enjoy it but I’m also going to learn! Thank you!
The fact thst his video is so entertaining whike your learning so much from it
The sweet, sweet nostalgia that En Vogue brings 🥰🥰🥰
As always I'm always learning something new from these videos that you exquisitely put together. This is one of the reasons why I love studying gospel singers. Daryl Coley is one of my all time favorites gospel singers. Kelly is amazing. She's so underrated.
Thank you!!! So much for this information. I never knew there were different types of dynamic singing! I ALWAYS learn with your channel
'The Voice. The Singing. The Technique. Explained.' Love it!!!! Keep surprising us as you do. Hopefully one day I may attend your RUclips live vocal analysis
Is it possible to get a Brandy (Norwood) analysis? Good or not so much. I'm ready for it.
Absolutely a Brandy fan FYI
Yessss
Another elucidating piece of work! Thank you, BMA!
Can we please get a video on Brandy? I'd love to hear your take on her evolution!
Finally a Maria Callas ref !!!!!!!💞💞💞💞💞
Jennifer Holliday came out full power SANGING! Whew. Do y'all hear me! Had to go listen to the full version again.
Also, another important thing that many singers (even in the Golden Age) lack - the evenness of dynamic. As legendary Zinka Milanov wisely observed: "The piano must be the same as forte. Not in terms of volume, but density has to be there". That's a real example of pp on a very high top B ruclips.net/video/X-SguPkEDwE/видео.html There a few singers who' possesses this type of skill - Renata Tebaldi, Zinka Milanov, (in her prime), Rosanna Carteri, Birgit Nilsson (with less spectacular pp, but still) and also other few to mention.
Muy bueno!! Gracias por el video!!!! Esperamos por mas!.
This videos are a blessing for the RUclips! Thank you so much for the hard work!
Thank you for answering so many questions about vocal quality. The beautiful examples of different vocal qualities and volume make your explanation clear.
I got chills hearing that Libera Me. So beautiful!
Thank you very much this video. Dynamics are the most intriguing part of singing to me.

I'm poor and a starving artist so I can't contribute at the momemnt but have you considered starting a Patreon? I think you should. Your content is excellent and deserves funding.
Or maybe a Nebula account?
Great video as always! Please do an EXPLAINED for Tamia or Coko from swv they have such baby voices but powerful at the same time how??
Every time I watch 1 of your videos I learn something
Now that I’m seeing this it reminds me of the things I would learn in gcse music. I bet my music teacher in high school is showing her students these videos.
Thank you!
Love the way you broke it down for remedial learners. I think I'm starting to learn something now. I think Faith Evans might be one of those lyric voice types. That's probably why I never appreciated her talents until rnb divas came around and I noticed that she gives all she got when she sings and I was impressed. Just like her costar Keke Wyat who might be a forte voice type even though they both might be sopranos. Did I get that right?
Thank you 🙏🏽💖
Very good 🤩
Definitely learned something
Wow!! This is such an interesting video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching ♥️

As always I learn something new!! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching ♥️
@@BlackMusicArchive Your welcome.
Kelly said louder !!!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😂😂😂 i love this clip.
Great video! It's really informative! With your instrumental example for timbral dynamics, would it be the other way around? With acoustic musical instruments, typically louder instruments are ones that produce higher frequencies and overtones. In the case of the alto saxophone (the one in the video) and tuba, wouldn't the saxophone be perceived aslouder or more piercing because of it's timbre and it's higher frequencies? PS the saxophone is a woodwind :-)
I’m the 1st here to enjoy this treat before bed.
Great video!
Can you do an EXPLAINED for Michel'le?
Yes! Your voice has range! Love to hear it!
I'm very interested in this.
almost at 100 subs yay!!!
Another great and informative video. Thank you. I love the inclusion of the sheet music, very helpful. Was that Grace Bumbry in the first clip? What was the song, please?
“O Don Fatale.”
@@BlackMusicArchive Thank you!!
thx for the video
Good 👍🏾 stuff
They put so much hype behind Beyonce that Kelly and Michelle get overlooked. Kelly was not playing any games in that clip and the others that I have seen them sing that song. I so missing singing in a choir and doing Total Praise. That song is not easy to sing, but our choir director definitely knew how to get the best out of us and make sure we had the build up that you have to have with that song.
Throughout this clip I keep thinking of Aretha when she sang He's Got the Whole World In His Hands ending and how the choir and music was building and Queen definitely read the room and hit that note!
Kelly's singing was very inconsistent. One day she would do that, and the next she would be much worse. She didn't stay in vocal shape as long as Beyonce either, who has just been getting better.
Right. They all can really sing not just Beyonce. Kelly voice is very powerful and so is Michelle’s 🙌🏾
You do realize that Beyonce is the one who arranged those vocals so Kelly could execute them at that time and all 3 of them executed in the vocal register(Kelly top, Beyonce middle and Michelle lower) they were singing in. What made dc3 great is all 3 of them could be interchangeable wrt the registers/harmonic parts and either Beyonce or Michelle could do what Kelly did. BTW, what I said take nothing from Kelly. DC3 is my favorite female vocal group in mainstream entertainment.
thanks, teach !
I learned so much watching these videos thank you so much. By the way saxophone is a woodwind not brass
I’m aware that it belongs to the “woodwind” family of instruments. However, the “timbral dynamic” section is talking about physical design. Saxophones and Tubas are both made and designed from brass metal.
Thanks for watching ♥️🙂
Jennifer Holliday came in with that choir!!! Goosebumps!!
