I am impressed by how quickly the touch screen responds. Nicely done video. I live in the Great Plains where dealers actively discourage EV shoppers. My experience so far has convinced me that warranty issues with an EV will be a bigger problem than with vehicles that dealers actually want customers to buy. I envy those who live in places where car businesses are not so short-sighted.
EVs have very reasonable warranties especially on the batteries. If an EV doesn’t have an issue in the warranty period it’s unlikely to have a major battery issue. Now other things could happen, but that is true of any car. The big issue here is EVs don’t make dealers money in service which is why some don’t want to sell them. EVs still need tire rotations, fluids filled, and windshield wipers replaced. Eventually they will need brakes and rotors as well. There will be a market for EV repairs and dealers and other mechanics will eventually start to expand their services to meet those needs. But right now, many just don’t want to sink the time and resources into EVs which are a very small part of the car fleet on the road right now.
There seems to be a lot of questions about scheduling a specific start time and stop time, overriding the target charge percentage to charge only during off peak hours, - more information about the "preferred charging" option would be helpful, if that's where the solution lies.
Thanks for the demonstration. I have yet to take my new Equinox to the Fast Charging stations so I need to get to there and learn more of what to do. Thank you.
Great video. My headlights and taillight weren’t coming on during charging and I thought that was great and must only be available on the higher trims as we have the LT. When charging at night I don’t want to draw any unwanted attention to the vehicle. It would be nice as you say to have that feature when fast charging and it to be turned off when level 2 charging.. One feature that my salesman told me I don’t have is the auto trailgate feature. The other day I was going thru the settings and found a setting for that which was turned off. I turned it on just for fun and lo and behold it now works. So happy as I find it a great feature if you don’t mind the beeping
Good one. I learned some things. My neighbor told me my lights were on the other night. Obviously I need to turn off the headlight charging indicator thanks. EQX 2RS
Did you ever figure out what the "Auto" button was for? Also, in regard to the Level One and being able to select 8 or 12 amp charge rates. Amps x 120 volts = .96kw or 1.44 KW. I noted that due to the fact that people think that they are charging at level one rate of 1.4KW when in reality the default setting is .96Kw. Not a big difference but maybe a mile or two for every hour of charge time does adds up. Also with the level one charge options, know that some garage outlets are 15 amp 120v and some outlets are 20 amp 120v. Not sure what year the code changed to 20 amps. We all should know by now the 25% rule. If not, the wiring and circuit breaker should be sized 25% greater than the max floating load. This puts the 12 amp option right at the limit of a 15 amp circuit which is 100% limit for code and I would not feel comfortable sleeping at night charging on a 15 amp circuit. Check your breaker and make sure the wiring is 12 gauge if you want to feel safe at the 1.44KWH charging capacity.
I would like to set up a charging schedule to only charge at home when there are lower utility rates (after 11 PM) - so I need to: (1) set a home location (2) choose ‘Charge Later’ (3) AND set up a home charging schedule (4) AND set ‘Home Charging Schedule’ to ‘on’ (5) AND set ‘Preferred charge times’ to on. Is this correct? If I correctly set up a charging schedule for home and I then want to use a level 2 charger away from home, can I just plug in and have the car charge immediately? Or do I have to select ‘Charge Now’ on the menu, and remember to set back to ‘Charge Later’ for home charging?
Correct. I have mine set up for 11pm till 6am also. So when we are done driving for the day I plug cord in. It keeps and turns blue. At 11pm it sees schedule and turns green till it get to 80%. If you need to plug in away from home it will work, but if at home you will need to switch off the schedule and put charge now
Does anyone know, if the "Ready By" and "Preferred Charged Time" are different which one wins? The time I charge does make a great difference in price ( 8 cents per KWH vs, 28 cents per KWH). I want to make sure it only charges at the preferred charged times. So if my "Preferred Charged Times" are between 10PM and 6PM. And the "Ready by: is set to 8:00AM. What happens? Thx! :-)
I missed when I was going through the settings that you can shut the lights off when charging. Going to turn that off now. Feel like a dum dum while my car is all lit up in my driveway.
Could you explain preconditioning? Not how to do it, you've done that. But rather why, and which temp to choose. Also, I live in Texas, how does hot weather affect charging? Should I wait until it's cooler or does it matter.
Is there any procedure for ending a charge session before the car is charged to the desired level (e.g. 80%)? Do you simply unplug the cable from your car?
Looking into buying an EV for the first time and want to use my dryer outlet, which is a NEMA 10-30 240V. I'll be setting it up using a splitvolt or similar brand. How can I prevent car from pulling more than 24 amps? Is there a setting or do I need another adaptor?
Some EVSE allows the user to select the max power, some EVSE automatically select the lower power according to the condition of the circuit it guesstimates. My recommendation is to buy a separate EVSE (charger) with 16A maximum, you will be safer and happier that way.
U can. It's on a different page. I have mine set up and I needed to take a picture to show Electric Supplier so I can get my rebate and 10% off rates from 11pm-6am
@garymeredith3610 haven't found it. You can set preferred time, but if it won't get to your set charge level by that time it will charge outside of the set time
I have a question. We charge our 2024 Equinox EV in the middle of the night at home when rates are lowest. When charging is complete, the lights go on. We obviously don't want the car's lights going on in the middle of the night in our driveway while sleeping so how do we shut off that feature?
FYI: "Schedule Charging" on the Charging menu, doesn't work. I've just confirmed that with GM. It looks like it works, but in reality, it does absolutely nothing. The other menu items work, that enable you to have the car ready (charged) for a specific date/time, but that does little good if you need to leave earlier than expected. If so, the car may not be ready for you.
I have noticed that as well. Did you confirm with GM or your dealer? I have been waiting to make a video in case I was just doing something wrong, but lots of people have been having the same issue.
What time does the scheduled charging start? In the volt we had, there was a window with start and finish times. Important to match electric company low rate window.😢
I just charged my Equinox Ev for the first time, and I was curious about the 8 or 12 amp for home charging. I left it on 8amp. It seems like it will take a long time from 50 to 80%
Thanks for the video, so I have a Blazer EV RS for 10 months now and the second menu option where it shows to your the locations for charging, for me shows ERROR 302, contact OnStar, they dont know what to do and 2 dealerships also have no idea how to fix it. even after recall and install new software version, problem still there. Do you all have any idea how to get help from GM itself on these situations? Dealers are useless here....Since the day I took delivery of the car, the error is there and it is very annoying. exactly same infotainment systems on these cars.
That is so strange. I’m not sure why that might be occurring. My only thought is to do a hard reset by holding the end call button until it reseats (that’s what I read online). Not sure if you’ve done that already or if that would even work. I’m guessing it would not work, but worth a try?
Have you actually tried any of the schedule/charge later settings? I can't get them to work. The vehicle just wants to start charging when it's plugged in.
I used the charge later and it worked perfectly for me. I have not done the schedule yet unfortunately. Did you set your home location? Not sure if that might be the issue?
@@theaverageev the home location is set correctly. No combination of charge later, scheduled times, preferred times, etc. makes a difference, the car will start to charge as soon as it's plugged in instead of during off-peak hours.
Well ...I decided this time to just let it charge since it's only an hour before off-peak charging begins and after 15 minutes it stopped drawing power. I guess I'll see tomorrow morning if it actually worked.
So it looks like the schedule, charge later etc. do work but the vehicle will pull some charge for about 10-15 after plugging in before it stops and waits to start again to complete by the time scheduled.

It is probably best practice to stop the charge for in your car. Not every charger has an ended charge button, but that is another good option!

There are many videos on here advising NOT to use a dryer outlet. Says they could melt. I bought a metal outlet and 240 plug at HD.

Let me play around with it for a bit and I’ll put out a video!
