@@QaamansLand Certain people have rivalries with other, whether it's competitive gaming, sports, etc. Sometimes, no matter how hard they try, they just can't match up to them. It's the same thing that Vegeta experienced when he tried to surpass Goku multiple times but failed.
That One Dude what’s sad about that is vegeta was born with more natural talent. It’s just that gokus training was more efficient and yielded better results

@@picassojulien899 "more talent", I would not even say that. He was lucky to be born with a higher power level. Cool. What talent else is there to speak of? You saw Gokus growth right? whatever the case is Goku trained harder as well as smarter and I'd say more importantly his mindset is set above just one person. Doesnt matter how much talent you have.
Vegeta admitting goku was superior in the buu saga led to him catching up to goku making them equals for majority of the time of dragonball super. They train together, Vegeta instead of torturing his body with the gravity chamber all the time, he does image training and meditates like goku as well when he stands on mountains for days at a time. Vegeta swallowing his pride and not chasing goku and focusing on protecting loved ones is what led to him catching up and staying up.

To add on to what you said it’s more like vegeta found pride in other things other than himself being a prince of all the saiyans, he found pride in being a father, pride in living on earth, and even pride in his family, like trunks

What made you enjoy the video?
@@QaamansLand It's hard to pinpoint exactly. You dissect things in a way noone else does. You're looking at story events in non superficial way, instead you're taking a view from character's perspective and therefore not miss many important details. Like telling in 0:52 that Vegeta after battle on Earth didn't really care for rivalry. Or state of Vegeta's mind in 3:40 and step of development in 4:04. Using your expirience from analysing previous what-ifs in 7:36.
Also you and Mark are the only anime youtubers that I don't listen as podcast because I just like the editing you do. The Super Saiyan Record, game analogy, Freud's reference, the timeline; I know I could understand the premise just as well without watching them but I watch them anyway. And of course these great pieces of fanart you find like Gohan with Cell Jrs massacred (with impalement) or #18 giving Vegeta a BDSM foreplay.
Vegeta's pride wouldn't allow him to admit that he was envious of Goku. Goku then became a source of inspiration to push himself further. That they'll always be someone stronger or better than you out there and there's always room for growth.
If Goku was weaker than Vegeta (long term) Vegeta would have no goals

This was very interesting, I have heard so much about their rivalry but this video sheds even more light that I didn't think could exist, also I love the ending, Vegeta's angry voice just made me laugh.

It's interesting because once he gave up the unhealthy rivalry for a healthier version the gap narrowed consideraly. Arguably Vegeta is stronger than Goku as Blue Evolution and Kaioken Blue seem roughly equivalent but Evolution is much more stable. If Meerus helps Goku access UI at will that gap is gonna open so wide it can never be bridged however.
And while that is possible, saiyans continue to evolve and I think vegeta will find some kind of way to continue the close of that gap

In Z I wouldn't really call it a rivaly, it was more so Vegeta chasing Goku while Goku chased himself. In Super however, it's more of a proper rivalry with them both competing

I really want to see a role reversal where it's vegeta who is the good guy, begging goku for mercy. Imagine if Frieza loses it and goes after Goku's family, killing them and pushing Goku to the edge, almost killing Frieza but it's Vegeta who turns goku and spares Frieza, starting his good guy ark.

I hated how he, in my opinion became the comic relief of DBZ, that's how I felt about it if I'm honest it felt like A.T was just making fun of him. @@QaamansLand what I mean is you can't really be a rival to someone who is leagues above you in this case Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta doesn't have unlimited main protagonist powers at his disposal or protection from the writers Vegeta is trash compared to the unlimited main protagonist power Goku has. There is no rivalry, there has never been a rivalry, and there will never be one.

Even tho a lot of people hate on the concept, I actually really liked the filler episodes of DBZ because it built up more of the character’s traits and filled in some gaps that were in the manga. Hell I even like the “Girl named Lime” episode just because it showed more of what Goku and Gohan did during prep for the Cell Games. The Vegeta filler episodes also showed more of Vegeta’s desperation to catch up with both Goku and Future Trunks at the time

Main difference between Vegeta and goku is their training, Goku points out to Gohan that it is useless to train beyond your capability and how important it is to rest.
Meanwhile Vegeta always trains and barely rests, that is a reason why never ending gap between Vegeta and goku exists.
If we talk pure potential Vegeta is far superior to Goku, but thanks to his discipline, easy going nature, teachers Goku manages to surpass vegeta

@@QaamansLand In every instance in GT it is shown that when gohan fights it's either in base form or ssj2 so I don't know whether his mystic would still apply?

Vegeta ended up being Goku's sidekick to the audience 90% thru out the entire DB series because he doesn't had the knowledges and mostly self center. He managed to became SS when God finally allowed him to I guess because is all the sudden and everything he tried doesn't work where Goku, Gohan, & his future son Trunk became SS thru their emotional losses of pain = the death of someone they care. It was Goku introduced the Symbolic Time Chamber to Vegeta so it explain who know how to utilized its training in that environment better than the others. Vegeta didn't care enough for his future son is another reason he didn't get the boost he need to became SS2 after Cell blasted Trunk when he return. More importantly Goku reached his SS3 transformation when he first counter Majin Buu and didn't displayed during his battle with Vegeta prior his sacrifices and failed to take Buu out with him. Just given the title and the fact that Vegeta is the prince of all the saiyans where Goku suppose to be a low class warrior in their race often called to the spot light to deal with major contest with powerful threats as the saiyans prince has to take a back seat.
