  • Part 2 of my ongoing surf fishing series. This one talks about the importance of fishing "edges" in their various forms and in combination. It contains some video footage from my kayak, but the concepts pointed out in those clips are commonly found from shore also, along channels, back bays, and inlets. The open beach is also discussed.

    Well, I have watched several of you videos and I find them pretty consistent. In your videos I am not watching someone fishing, but someone explaining what he does, what he thinks matter. And that is pretty rare! Thank you for all you teached me.

    Thanks for another eye opener for the rest of us.
    The time and effort that you have spent in the making of another great video it's greatly appreciated, you are right about it stimulating thought and changing the way one looks at water, in our fishing journey.
    I don't know you but I will forever be grateful for all your effort in sharing what you have learned.
    We have come a long way from hard heads with your help.

    Another great vid Rich! I haven't looked at a beach the same since I discovered your channel. What is most helpful for me is that your videos are not a "fish here" instructional; its how they provoke critical analysis of what I'm seeing in the surf. Thanks again!!!!

      Ah, you can't give up after 3 tries ;-) Fishing is a life long learning process and the fun is in the journey, the little victories along the way. I'm 67 and have been fishing all my life and I'm still learning stuff. When I think it I know it all, then it'll be time to plant me in the ground lol. Thanks for watching and stay safe.

      Absolutely common sense stuff :-). I'm basing my whole series as a "bottom up" approach, so a lot of the stuff I build on is probably already old hat for the more experienced guys. Just want to cover as much as possible. It's hard to edit down sometimes lol.

    Rich, thanks for the education on how and what to look for. I find your pics n video's mucho helpful, tight lines from Montauk, NY!! The new moon this weekend, fish 'em up. Enjoy living down south, LI is great fishing but too expensive ( save money and buy more Van Staals after the move ) haha

    • @richtroxler
      @richtroxler  3 года назад

      Hi Pete. Sorry for the late reply. been on a 7 day a week work binge. I miss the fishing on LI. I spent a lot of years learning my areas and it was tough to give up but I'm having fun learning my new areas down here. It's a lot cheaper than LI but it's starting to get crowded (VB area) so I'll eventually relocate to NC down closer to Hatteras / Buxton area. Fishing never gets old. Have a good fall and stay safe.

    Rich, thank you for taking the time to create another outstanding video. How's the fluking down there?

    • @richtroxler
      @richtroxler  7 лет назад

      Hi cs. Fluking from the yak hasn't been great lately but I pick up the occasional big girl while fishing for other species. Fishing in the main bay by boat is productive, just need to find the good humps.

  • @ahhhuchiha3834
    @ahhhuchiha3834 5 лет назад

    Wow your videos help me catch fish in places I once thought were unproductive. Are you identifying channels from looking at choppy water next to shiny water 10:49 ?

    • @richtroxler
      @richtroxler  5 лет назад +1

      Very interesting observation Alex. The short answer is when I fish bays, I identify channels by the difference in the way the water looks. You describe it as choppy, which it frequently is, but any difference in the way water looks will usually tell you something about it. Water changes either because of bottom contour changes or current changes (differences in current) which is what happens when water in a channel is flowing faster than the adjacent water on the surround flats. If you identify a channel, look for a difference in the way the choppy water flows and that usually tells you that it is flowing over a change in bottom depth. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Rich. This is very informative but unfortunately I do not have a beach. Since, I am located at Dammam, Eastern Region of Saudi. What we have here is a Corniche. And its very difficult to relate to the info. that you are providing. Can you please provide an email where I can post video of the surface I have so that I can use some advice. Our corniche seems to be infested with catfish.

    Is this east coast or west cost fishing

    • @richtroxler
      @richtroxler  5 лет назад +1

      East coast. But water is water and behaves the same way on either coast. The coastlines can be very different though. On the east coast, we have a lot of fairly plain sand beach, so I focus mostly on how to read those kinds of shoreline.

      richtroxler oh my god you reply. I thought you are one of those VIP whom doesn't reply comments. I've watch a lot of your video about tide and so on. But it is hard to put it into practice in term on how to read beach and know where fish at. And how come you are into chunking bait more than using lures? And why do you like using big yellow and orange color rod?

    • @richtroxler
      @richtroxler  Год назад

      Lots of questions. No, I'm not a snob. I've always tried to respond to all comments, it's just the way I was doing it wasn't the right way and youtube keeps changing the user dashboard, so I was missing comments and they were falling through the cracks and I just discovered how many there were, and I'm still struggling to get all caught up lol. My videos pack 50 years of information into several hours of videos, so it's going to be hard to put into practice. It'll take time. I just provide a road map, the journey still has to be taken. For the open beach I fish chuck bait a lot, in the bays I fish lures or cast eels, around bridges and inlets, bucktails. I fish what catches the most and biggest fish. That "yellow" rod is an old Lamiglass "honey" parobolic fiberglass rod that was what all us "old-timers" used back in the day. Nowadays I use rods tied on lighter blanks because my shoulders are shot lol. Oh, and their black. Thanks for subscribing.
