    ALWAYS make sure you can open the fill plug BEFORE draining ANYTHING on a car
    - drain plug - 10mm allen wrench - 29 to 30lbs torque
    - inside plastic -6mm allen wrench
    - about 90 ounces of fluid came out, he put it 3 quarts or 96 ounces
    - fill plug bolt - 25lbs torque
    just some notes to myself, or for anyone to use

    That “internal” dipstick is for you to set the proper fluid level and a certain temperature range. Best practice is to put 1/4-1/2 extra fluid let it warm up to the temperature then remove the drain plug again and it will retain the correct fluid level with the tube installed.

    • @christopherdimotsis1024

      @@efremendez almost all vehicles especially new ones have a “cooler” that circulates engine coolant and transmission fluid to both keep fluid temps down but also to warm fluid up quicker. Rav4 Hybrid is so friggin' simple. Drain out COMPLETELY - 3 to 3 1/2 quarts and then pump in to OVERFLOW. Wait for it to LEVEL OUT ( Patience, and wait for it to STOP dripping!), and then torque plug down to 29 ft. lbs. BAM, you're done! NO pan and NO filter!
    Then go ahead and do your REAR DIFFERENTIAL in exactly the SAME manner.

    interesting , the car care nut has a very specific procedure for changing the trans fluid. The fluid has to be a certain temp, and you have to be in manual diagnostic mode if you don't have a scan tool to do this to get the fluid level correct.

    • @mongo0179
      @mongo0179 2 года назад +5

    • @jameshendrix8217
      @jameshendrix8217 2 года назад +8

      @@mongo0179 ya they have the scan tool that lets them know the proper temp. of the trans fluid to change it. Theoretically what you could do assuming that the amount of fluid is correct in trans to begin with is completely drain the fluid (get 2 identical clear buckets so you can see the level.) let the hot trans fluid in the bucket sit over night and cool (also have the new trans fluid in the same place.) Now both fluids with be at equal temps, pour new trans fluid into other bucket , match the levels and bingo you have the correct amount of trans fluid to add to the trans. Time consuming but do able.

    This is NOT how you change the trans fluid on a newer Toyota!!! You have to have the fluid at the right temperature so it expands to operating temperature!!! Both the fluid being emptied and the ew one have to be at the right temp 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

      To solve this issue you only should do it without move the car early morning and left the new transmission fluid in the car to allow both fluid been the same temp

      He’s correct. Temperature is significant. This video is helpful for seeing where the plugs are and his procedure but there is risk with not testing the fluid level. Watch the Car Care Nut’s video on ATF drain and fill for a Toyota.

      @@bigfootswatching9986 He's correct. The first thing you need to do is buy a proper scan tool and not some bluetooth enabled dongle that pairs with your phone. A real scan tool, such as ScanGuage, Foxwell NT510, or Xtool that can read the Trans temperature. Most people that own and work on Toyotas know the procedure and there are work-arounds for not having a scan tool but it's just easier and safer to spend the $150 on one and know.

      Why does the fluid have to expand if you’re draining it? I thought the fluid only needed to expand to check the levels. If you drain it cold, measure and put the same amount in then let it expand it should even out no?

    Forget, adding a bunch of 28 oz together. Get you a jug that holds 3 quarts. Emptied it all into that jug. Mark the total. Refill the same jug with the new fluid to the mark. No math, no nothing easy.

  • @mamabazzz

    You don't need to measure the fluid!
    The naturally aspirated RAV4 transmission takes 7.5 Quarts, it's in the owner's manual.

      The overflow won't let you overfill it. Especially if you run it and allow it to heat up. Don't forget to put the MAIN plug back with a tool. No hand tightening please.😅 Only for the plastic pipe level

    Did I miss something? This video shows the easy part which is draining the transmission pan but not the hard part of putting new ATF back in. I'm sorry but this video is not a great help to anyone and his English is hard to understand. Go find a video made by an expert mechanic.

    people keep changing transmission fluid every 60k .. that is old style and their mind is this ..if u dont change it, your transmission is going to break down lmao ... i have a 2015 toyota rav4 and never change my transmission bc it is a sealed one ... if u dont change it, it will last up to 250k.. if u change it, your tranmission will have problem at 150-200k bc you will contaminate the fluid and it will cause dirts to stuck in there... why uncle told me that he changes his fluid every 60k then why he has transmission problem at 150k .. i said bc u drain and fill .. u only do drain and fill if it is not a sealed transmission .. if sealed, dont touch it ... many mechanics did not know this and they keep telling people to change.. they are old school mechanics
