I am sure it took more effort to make this video editing so perfect than it did to do the actual fluid change. Very, very very much appreciated. Thank you sir one more time.
Thanks, yes it's much harder to film and take good shots at the same time, appreciate that
I’m one yr late and like the saying goes “better late then never”. This video is top tier str8 to the point no over talking extra unnecessary BS thank you so very much. New sub
Thank you for your help. I was able to change the fluid without too much trouble and learned a ton! Some observations from my experience should it help anyone:
1. I have a 2019 Camry and did the transmission fluid change at 60k miles. It was the first time I did it and the first time the transmission fluid has been changed since buying the car new. The fluid seemed very clean and still a good red color.
2. I did an oil change at the same time but before the transmission. You do not need to remove the splash guard that covers the oil drain plug as it is bolted to the same splash guard you have to remove to gain access to the transmission drain plug and remove that will expose oil drain bolt anyway. Save you a few minutes if you're doing the engine oil at the same time and a 'duh!' moment lol.
3. The drain plug AND the fill plug were torqued down extremely tight. Make sure you have something with a lot of leverage, especially the drain bolt. I used a 16 inch torque wrench and still barked my knuckles on the fill plug. Be careful.
4.I jacked the up car on 4 stands to keep it level and confirmed with a magnetic level on the undercarriage. It wasn't perfect but it was close.
5. A long piece of tube stretched over a funnel held high above and clamped onto hydraulic lifts for the hood is how i got the fluid back into the transmission. As long as there was pressure from more fluid flowing into the tube it was able to go into the fill hole with minimal leakage. I couldn't get the last few drops in, but I purposefully overfilled it so that last few ml's didn't matter.
6. Draining was straightforward, the straw came right out and the fluid came afterwards. I didn't have a bucket to measure but that would've made it a lot easier to know how much to put in. Another video I watched said 3.5l which is what I did and it went fine draining out the excess though it was probably a little wasteful.
7. The temperature was tricky. I went with the infrared gun method and because my Camry isn't the same model as the vehicle in this video the picture wasn't a perfect match. I looked for the same ridges in the picture and tested multiple areas until every spot on the transmission case was over 95F. Afterwards I removed the drain bolt for the second drain to get the appropriate fluid level and after about 20-30 seconds it started to trickle out like shown in the video.
8. Before and during part 7 I was shifting to circulate the new fluid a very concerning thump sound kept happening when going from park to neutral, neutral to drive, drive to park etc. It wasn't a bad thump, I imagine it was the transmission doing its job with low initial fluid since it hadn't had the chance to fully circulate. I took a risk and drove it around afterwards and luckily that sound did not occur over the 20-25 minutes of test driving. I was mainly doing neighborhood but also was able to get up to highway speeds of around 70mph and it was shifting great, no incidents. I think giving the fluid the opportunity to actually flow and engage the gears instead of just alternating between park and drive was what actually filled up any gaps in transmission fluid that was causing the thumping. I still am concerned that the sound was due to low transmission fluid, so I'm curious how it will sound when I start it cold tomorrow morning. In either case it drives as good as new when warm so I know the level is very close and I way overbought fluid so I can add more and repeat the drain process.
8. I've left the splash guard off for now, and placed a large piece of cardboard under where both the oil and transmission drain bolts are located. I will inspect it in the morning for any leaks, along with the bolts themselves. I'm about 2 hours post change and the only thing on the cardboard so far is water so I think I'm in the clear.
Will update ASAP. Thanks for all your help!
Waiting for this video man for so long. Thank you buddy.
Thanks brother, hope I made it clear and easy 🙏
How long did u warm up the car before getting the extra fluid out

Be sure and have the engine running on the last drain. Too much comes out if off and you start over. Also start at 95* as the fluid warms quickly while running and draining the excess. Thanks
How to know when it’s at 95 degress
@@MaxBuildsItnice scan tool will tell you
@@MaxBuildsItI used an infrared thermometer on the outlet cooler hose and it will get you close enough. Fluid needs to be between 95 and 113° so once the hot line is 95-100 it’s plenty warm
Yes
I've heard from a transmission professional that you can put exactly what came out of the transmission and shouod be good if you do not have leaks if you change the transmission fluid at about 50,000 miles. Great video thank you.
I read for Toyota the service manual says that is about right if you do it on a cold trans (left overnight) otherwise at operating temps there is expansion.
Hey Congratulation bro got new Toyota camry. If you sale your last model I will buy.
I am going to do a drain and fill next time. I decided to do a transmission fluid at dealership fir first Time wirh 90k miles. No issues wirh transmission fluid. Moving forward a drain and refill.
Thank you for your time
Thanks for watching
Nice instruction
Thanks
I like the tool set, where did you get them???
Appreciate it does this technique also work in older camrys like 07 through 11? V6
Yes it’s the same process, I have 08 V6 Camry and I did the same when changing the oil a few years back., now we have a 2019 Camry and I was curious to see if the steps were the same or if it has changed in any way
Thank you!
🙏🙏
Thank you for the detailed video.
When I recheck the fluid in the transmission for the final step does the car have to be on or off?
Yes it has to be on to circulate the fluid and only the over flow will drain
Does the 2017 camry Have transmission filter??
Thanks Great video . Any idea of how long you need to drive it befor last drain
You just need to get the fluid warm up abit and mixed, it doesn't need a long trip
when we should change the transmission fluid ? I have the same 2019 camry SE
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Sound Times I wonder why it is more difficult to change the transmission oil than changing engine oil.
Aren’t you supposed to drain the excess fluid when you reach the target transmission fluid tempera ture which is 95-113 degrees in Farenheit using a infrared thermometer heat gun or a scan tool for accurate ATF level. Also its very important that the car must be level so most of the fluid will drain. Just saying but great video 👍.
Yes you are right, I did that after a short trip to warm up the transmission and I showed the level of the ground when I did the overflow drain
Alimech how would you know you are at the right temperature before draining the excess if you didn't use an infra red thermometer or a scanner to note the temperature
@@wilsonemeka1833 Or via OBD with Toyota software.

Hello Alimech, I have a 2018 Camrey LE. I already did an oil change using your video and I would like to try changing the transmission. I know I can do it but my concern is checking the right temperature before draining the excess fluid. I saw from other video using a OBD reader but i do not like to buy one because it's costly for me and I don't really know how to use a OBD. Other video is using a infrared thermometer to get the temperature. Is there a simple way to check a safe but close to accurate temperature before draining the excess fluid?
I checked with the thermistor and drained, it didn't make difference, but you can turn the engine on and put ur hand under the pan, when you feel you can feel the heat and you can hold ur hand on it, drain it
warn engine can change the transmission Fluid?
Hello, where can I get that fluid?
I heard the transmission needs to be at an exact temperature before draining the overfill. How long did you drive it around for before draining? Do I need to get a scan tool to read the transmission temperature for this operation?
Yes get a scan tool that can read it. You can do with with a temperature reader that measure the outside temperature of the pan but I wouldn’t take a chance
yes it needs to be at 95-113 degrees F u can use a scan tool or the paper clip trick in the odb2 port
I filled it with 4 liters of liquid, not 3 and a half. Is there a problem?
Gracias, me ahorre 400 dolares aciendolo yo mismo.....
Glad it was helpful, thanks for your feedback
Hi Alimech, is this Camry using cvt or automatic gearbox ?
It used transmission Ws type
I loved the video and funny enough I was going to complain that you didn't compare the fluid level that you removed compared to how much you added back in and then immediately my mind was blown when you showed that it has an auto leveling device to get rid of the excessive fluid. Literally what the f***. That's the most ingenious design I've ever seen.
Yes it's like that for camry now, no dipstic, fill up and then drain the excessive
Except you'd better not start draining until the pan temp or fluid temp via a meter scan tool shows the fluid reached 95F....
I've been told from a transmission professional ive known over 20 years you can be safe to drain out and measure it then put back in just what you took out. I did this with my 2017 corolla and had no issues for over 40,000 I changed the fluid 2 times.
It is much easier to use a funnel, thanks.
Absolutely!
I guess it’s the same process for the 2023 camry?
You don't change de oil transmission filter ??
How about the transmission filter?
How often should we charge it?
I don’t believe they are replaceable, I think Toyota only recommends drain and fills.
Is it the same procedure for 2gr Fe 2012-2015 Camry? Thanks
Please I need answers to this
Yes.
search for better videos by Car Care Nuts, you will find more details there.

Welcome
What product did you use to clean at 3:10?
I used carb cleaner, you can also use brake cleaner too
Did you jack up the car again to remove the excess fluid. I imagine that to remove the excess fluid, the car has to be level on ground. Am I right?
If you can't reach the drain bolt, Jack up the car and remove the bolt, and lower the car again
🙏👍Thanks
Thank you too!
I have a 2020 camry se. And the manual said 7.7 qt.
Please do manual gear box next!
Hello my friend, I have a Rav 4 2019. When filling a car with full fuel, the car only drives me 260 miles or only 419 km. Why what should I do?
This is normal, you have a 55 litre tank. You probably drive little hard, if you drive with airconditioning on and low tyre pressure that’s the reason.
The car should be getting around 450km/tank. The ticket (8•L/100 km) is wrong it’s more like 10L/100 then you factor in driving/aircon/tyre pressure etc.
If you really think there is a problem, change your O2 sensors. You’ll probably get the extra 50km back that you are missing.
Did you jack the car again after releasing the overflow oil?
It's better not not jack the car, so you have level car
The Car Care Nut said that ATF WS Transmission fluid is to be changed every 60,000 miles or 6 years. Is that correct?
Yes correct.
The proper level is reached at a certain temperature before the car is warm. Once the car is warm the oil expands and when cold your level is not sufficient.
What's the solution then
@@istiakahmad4727 1. engine completely cold. 2. drain transmission fluid. 3. measure exact amount drained. 4. pour in exact amount with engine cold. 5. add an extra 50 milli liter to be safe.
@@pomanprod Yep if you do it cold, no need to worry about overfill from expansion. Otherwise make sure its at temp Toyota indicates in service bulletin for no dipstick warm ATF changes.
You only need 3.5 liters to do a change? Isn’t the capacity around 9 quarts?
Its not a flush just a drain. Most of the fluid will stay in the transmission but this will replace a portion of the dirty fluid with clean.
How can I get funnel and pipe in Toronto?
Order from aliexpress dude
Local hardware store or car parts shop.
Just changed mine at 135k miles( 200 kilometers), old fluid looks way better than your it’s like black cherry color. I brought the transmission fluid from Walmart for 25 bucks and it’s WS qualified. Drained about 3.5 QT out of it. Definitely runs smooth and going to make another 135k miles lol good video
Does it have Transmission filter??
@@josea.morataya721yes it’s behind the black cover on the front of the transmission but it’s not necessary to replace it as often as on older vehicles as it’s a large particle screen
I have my Camry 2018 se and asked dealerships to change transmission fluid he says he would not be liable because I think it only was done once and I have now 220500 miles on it . Should I change it . They say to leave it alone ?
What do you say ?
you should change
There is a theory that there could be clutch material in the fluid that makes it gritty which if you change the fluid, it would make the clutches not engage properly.
You have to think, if the clutches are wearing, then it's only a matter of time before they give up and gearbox needs rebuilding anyway. I have never heard of this with other cars. You would be better off taking your car to a reputable transmission specialist and asking them if the fluid can be changed.
When is the first transmission fluid change?
If seen online 60k miles
Can I just pour in however much I drained, so I skip the last part of draining excess fluid?
Although not specified in the video title, this process is a Transmission fluid flush, not just a change which is what you're asking about.
You're fine to just do a fluid change under the condition that your fluid isn't dark brown/black and filled with debris like dirt and metal shavings. Inspect the used fluid. If it seems clean and appears more red than brown, then yeah just a simple fluid change is fine.
@@joshuab1707 thx, yeah and the more I think about it it makes sense for dealerships as the car might be hot so fluid volume is already bigger so just a simple drain and fill as much you drained might not work due to wrong volume
This is a drain and fill process not a flush. And to answer your question, how do you know what came out is really what needs to go in if you’re not at the operating temp for transmission fluid. That’s why you always put in more and drain at specific temp of fluid which s 95-114 degrees. Transmission fluid expands so what’s coming out hot is not what you’re putting going in.
@@joshuab1707it's not a flush at all. A flush is when you change the filter and also disconnect the hose from the cooler return pipe and fill up with new fluid until the pump pumps out clean fluid. It takes several goes and many litres of fluid. It's the only way it should be done, doing it this way in the video is a waste of time.
yes. As long as your car is drained when cold and the fluid is stored the same temperature.

What would be wrong with a measuring the amount of liquid that you drained and replacing with the same amount of new fluid.
What if it was low before, and you will put low again, that's why it's important to fill and drain
@@AliMECH I bought it from a dealership as a new car.I dont see any linkage and it has only 60000 miles.

If you want to totally get rid of all the old fluid, do this procedure 4 times while driving in between each drain and fill.
Is it a cvt transmission?
No
this is not a hybrid no?
No
You ought to make it clear that the last drain needs to be done with the engine running.
Looked easy but old fluid was torched.
Yes, it's never been changed before, it needs another change soon to clean that up
