I’ve just about sprained my finger hitting replay so many times watching and listening to it. Also discovered that it’s a whole different piece of music without headphones or with it turned down so it’s like getting several songs in one. And the karaoke track! There is so much going on in that song that it was overwhelming. So I really really appreciate the karaoke track more than usual this time. It’s almost good enough to be released on its own. This is going to break reactors the way Hoist the Color and All That Matters did. In this one Eli is the scary one. In the new one they’re all pretty scary (even Cesar) and Geoff is downright demonic!

The host should watch the video that Elizabeth Zharhoff (the Charismatic Voice) made for this cover. She adds a lot of fun background detail. And once again our host had an outstanding reaction, this time without much previous knowledge of this song. Meaning that I can't blame knowing a song ahead of time for all of the host's great reactions (think "Ain't goin' down ...") Another thing about the host's reactions is that because he often reacts to songs that have already had their time in the sun, I get to pick and choose my fave covers to listen to. The host, BTW, has not made any misteps. Finally, after giving fair warning in previous videos, he fell out of his chair. But made no mention of it, so I'm inclined to think that this wasn't the first time.

I’m so glad you did this one. Their new one is coming out soon, though you won’t be prepared. I love the digital background that Eli did. He used the program Unreal Engine which is used in the film industry and video games. I like that they each seem to represent a different area since the Viking tribes were pretty spread out. I also think that they’re representative of the five forces of life: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and aether (sort of the life force in the second Thor movie). One of the amazing things, other than the fact that they’re scary as all get out, is that Jose was a substitution. This happened just as Covid became life-changing. The original artist was not able to travel because of Covid restrictions. Jose had just come back to Orlando because the Chicago Company of Hamilton that he was in had shut down. Lucky us, but not so great for Chicago. Jose also appears in a couple of minis shot around that time and in Hoist the Colours. By the time they filmed Hoist the Colours , also originally planned for another artist, J had left for the military and Cesar came on board. Hoist the Colours also has rock god Eli, and that was the part originally planned for their guest artist. Jose can’t get that gravel in his voice so Eli had to learn the second part and Jose took his part. That’s why even though Jose is the guest artist Eli has most of the lines in HTC. In their new one Cesar is they’re taking Jose’s place and J is the returning guest star. It’s very confusing at times but you are catching on quickly! Fun little factoid: in high school Jose and Cesar appeared in Les Mis together.

Jose sings with Rockapella, one of the OG professional acapella groups. They're best known for their appearances on the TV show "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" back in the day, but they laid down some great acapella. Check out their "Zombie Jamboree" or "Shambala" ( both predate Jose's tenure.)
I also think Geoff should hook up with The Hu! I bet doing Mongolian singing with them would be quite the treat and learning opportunity for him. The Hu also has similar group energy/dynamics. He'd fit right in.

This was the first VP cover I heard and it is still one my favorites.
You haven't done Hoist the Colours yet... Eli absolutely slays in that one. He basically lives on a tenor high C, in full voice, throughout the song.
Their next video “Valhalla Calling”, coming out soon, is the sequel to this song so it’s great that you’ve freshly reacted to this before that one comes out. If you thought this was mind-blowing, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
You should try Bang. I think you will love their featured artist, Deejay Young. It is so catchy and happiness inducing.
A really happy song with Geoff giving instructions all the time like "majorize" or "bring it back", it reminds me of square dance.
Bang is the only performance of theirs that I absolutely refuse to listen to. Nothing to do with Voiceplay’s performance, but I despise the song. As someone whose life has been touched by suicide, I just find it triggering, not “catchy” or “happiness inducing”.

Great reaction. Yes, I would definitely be running away if I heard that low drone coming at me from an enemy onslaught. There are a few other versions that you might enjoy. All of them are different from each other. The one from The Wellermen is basses only. Yum. The one from The Hound and the Fox features Adam Chance of Home Free. And what I think was the first one I ever saw is from Alina Gingertail. It uses very interesting instruments. Enjoy.

I really love Bezerker Eli in this. But I find it hard to decide if he’s more intense here or in “Hoist the Colours”. Fun reaction. Always is!

New video. Same costumes and makeup except Geoff and Cesar. Geoff is more dirty and messy hair and Cesar is wearing Jose's robe. Eli, Layne and J None are all the same.
I’m so glad you did this one. Their new one is coming out soon, though you won’t be prepared.
I love the digital background that Eli did. He used the program Unreal Engine which is used in the film industry and video games.
I like that they each seem to represent a different area since the Viking tribes were pretty spread out. I also think that they’re representative of the five forces of life: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and aether (sort of the life force in the second Thor movie).
One of the amazing things, other than the fact that they’re scary as all get out, is that Jose was a substitution. This happened just as Covid became life-changing.
The original artist was not able to travel because of Covid restrictions. Jose had just come back to Orlando because the Chicago Company of Hamilton that he was in had shut down. Lucky us, but not so great for Chicago.
Jose also appears in a couple of minis shot around that time and in Hoist the Colours. By the time they filmed Hoist the Colours , also originally planned for another artist, J had left for the military and Cesar came on board. Hoist the Colours also has rock god Eli, and that was the part originally planned for their guest artist. Jose can’t get that gravel in his voice so Eli had to learn the second part and Jose took his part. That’s why even though Jose is the guest artist Eli has most of the lines in HTC.
In their new one Cesar is they’re taking Jose’s place and J is the returning guest star. It’s very confusing at times but you are catching on quickly!
Fun little factoid: in high school Jose and Cesar appeared in Les Mis together.
I’m pretty sure that Jose came to the rescue for them on “Hoist the Colors” instead of this one.
@@hwyla4416 Hmmm. I remember that they did need a sub for HTC. I thought that both were designed around the artist. that couldn’t make it. They have generally been doing two selections with the same artist most of the time since Covid. Maybe I just assumed it, but I thought I read it.
You could be right. I’m not as clued in since I’ve not yet been able to join Patreon. But I do remember people noting Eli took the ‘guest’ role in that one (and Jose sang Eli’s original part) Turned out great for the song that way!
This song was, if I'm not wrong, in both the tV series "Vikings" and in the video game "Assassins Creed V - Valhalla". And as others already pointed out, you were right in time reacting to this, for the SEQUEL to it is due for release next week or the following, and, by the short they've put out as a teaser, it'll be EPIC. 🙂

Jose sings with Rockapella, one of the OG professional acapella groups. They're best known for their appearances on the TV show "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" back in the day, but they laid down some great acapella. Check out their "Zombie Jamboree" or "Shambala" ( both predate Jose's tenure.)

I think it’s funny interesting that you think that deep note that Geoff does as like demon-esc ( not that it’s wrong,) I just have always thought of that more like the Earth or God(s) coming, it’s just so primal.
