It's interesting that on the album recording this is played differently. I think the first two chords are the same but on the Gmaj7 - the F# on the high E string is definitely heard. The Cm7b5 is instead a B/E where the two inner voices just shift down to the F#7(#5) (Tom Misch does this all the time). On the recording the bassist also plays all the bass notes so Tom's guitar is only playing voicings on the upper 4 strings for the last 3 chords. Some attempt at those chords - x2x222 x5x557 / x5x555 (3)x4432 (2)x2442 (2)x2332
You're right. If you see my chord spelling for that chord I have the 3rd, 7th, 9th and 11th of a Dbm11 chord there. Just the root and 5th are excluded with the 7th in the bass instead.
nice observation. I will try these patterns on my guitar and see if I note any change. By the way, when you said about the Gmaj7, I've noted the same thing. I prefer doing the Gmaj7 as 3xx432 or xx5432. Just to understand, you told that we can substitute Cm7b5 by B/E, in this case? Thanks
Earned yourself a new subscriber with this one, thanks for not talking for 5 minutes before starting the lesson and not wasting time on easy stuff! Will definitely be back for more
I love the small box in the top right corner showing perfectly the chords, keep those up!!! I end up screen capturing them and saving them to notes so I have them on a sheet
Thank you very much for posting this, I've learned "it runs through me" with the cords I found on-line but I could see and hear than it wasn't quite right but couldn't get them on my own. Also the video is super clear and it's great that you have the chord and your hand/finger placement shown at the same time. And a big thanks to showing of the embellishments that give the sound more life and color.
Great vid! Glad I was pretty much on the same page for I Wish except I think the E in the chorus is a C#m7b6 so from the A string down it would be 4 7 4 5 4. See if you agree? 👍🏼
I love these videos. It’s the best tutorial I’ve on RUclips. Can you do a tutorial on “in the midst of it all”-Tom Misch? Thanks. Hope you keep making more videos.
Carlos Aguilar 🙏🙏thank u! i’ll check that out. any suggestions i give major priority to my patreon peeps - www.patreon.com/nastysoul - check it out if you would like to support and get soul jam tracks and bonus lessons
@@NastySoulGuitarLessons Thank you for the reply! I'd really like to support the site but I can't support it at the moment. I'll definitely support it in the future. Thanks. Keep it up.
jhillgrooves no problem. I found a band recently called dirty projectors and they’re crazy talented. I’m a big fan of ¿teo? He’s got some smooth guitar work
Thaaaank you! This is a great tutorial without chewing the fat.

hey, great video lad, i'm having trouble with the "i wish" intro, the one in the official video of npr tiny desk (4:40-5:09) i don't really know if that's already the chord progression or what, thank you.
Love this video. Just checked out the rest of your channel. Great taste in music. I'll be checking the HER and FKJ ones out later! Have you got any idea what effect he uses to keep that sustained selection of notes and the effect for the lead line at the beginning for movies? I thought about a loop pedal but you would hear where it repeats and it seems like he literally does it for a couple of seconds before it's set for the whole track
Thank you! What is the fingering for C with the D in the bass for the last chord in movie? And can you explain which string i hammer on please in movie as well?
for this song in particular isn't it better to play the C#m7 (b5) and F#7 (#5) chords doing a barre with your index? it makes transitioning from those last three chords (Gmaj7 included) far easier. you can also use the ringer to reinforce the barre, basically you just change ringer and pinky positions.
Alex Cruz that’s an option! i think details like that are up to the individual. if you are having difficulty executed the chord changes, trying different fingerings is a great approach!
@@NastySoulGuitarLessons crazy because this was right on the beginning of me playing guitar, had to revisit the song because I forgot the chords and all these chords gotten so easy to fret today. progress really is a beautiful thing 😁
CHI7Dlike hmmm.... there are 4 songs and multiple chord progressions throughout the video. if you are interested in learning about the number system I offer one on one lessons online and can help you understand it in no time!
Hi thanks so much for that ! Just I think there is a little mistake in the first one correct me if I am wrong but you "pluck" three times after the first thumb fingers in the demonstration at 2:45...confuses me a bit? it should be just 2 times pluck like the rest of the song right ? Thanks a bunch again !!
Florent Vatin i wish i could help but this seems a bit technical to give proper advice in a comment section... i do give lessons online if you want some proper instruction.
I love how I watched this like I knew how to play guitar lol
Evan Poole just one step closer to it!!
same here lol
genius guy!
I think this is the best tutorial i've ever seen
yeah i thought i was gonna have a harder time but he made it super easy to understand
Great tutorial, wrong chords! 😂
You should do more tutorials of these tiny desk concerts! I’d recommend doing On My Mind - Jorja Smith
yea i dig the guitar part in that song. i did one on Blue Lights the last song Jorja Smith did on the performance, check it out!
It's like you read my mind. The whole of the set would be amazing!
It's interesting that on the album recording this is played differently. I think the first two chords are the same but on the Gmaj7 - the F# on the high E string is definitely heard. Some attempt at those chords -
x2x222
x5x557 / x5x555
(3)x4432
(2)x2442
(2)x2332
To my ear, the chord he transcribed as Cm7b5 sounds more like a Dbm9, possibly with an added 11th
You're right. If you see my chord spelling for that chord I have the 3rd, 7th, 9th and 11th of a Dbm11 chord there. Just the root and 5th are excluded with the 7th in the bass instead.
I hear a B/C# there
I think for the B chord he even puts the major 7 in there some times. At least it should be there, it sounds delicious
nice observation.
I will try these patterns on my guitar and see if I note any change.
By the way, when you said about the Gmaj7, I've noted the same thing. I prefer doing the Gmaj7 as 3xx432 or xx5432.

already did a quick vid on that!
great job.
thank you !
Great video, by any chance do you know the chords in the intro of I Wish from Tiny Desk?
Thanks! Very useful !
Try a C#11 (just bar across the 4th fret strings 4-2) instead of a C#m7b5 and you'll hear it
Very interesting! Nice job, thank you)
Thanks man you’re the best 👌🏻
Thank you man :)

absolutely made my day!!
Is it just me or is there a bossa nova groove in “it runs through me”? Not sure why I never noticed it until now.
Thank you! What is the fingering for C with the D in the bass for the last chord in movie? And can you explain which string i hammer on please in movie as well?
Vick Krishna C/D is the same chord voicing as chords at 5:32 in Video. (low to hi) 3-4-2-1 (fingers)
hammer on is A minor chord - hi e string 5-7 fret
Sooo nice man thanks a lot
thanks a lot man
Thanks for I wish !!!
Maestro!
You’re the man!
thank you so much!!
Thank you!!! God's plan right here!!
His hands are so big he could wrap it around any neck
Love you more than myself
David Galbán the song?? or am i special 😳😜😜 - great song tho!
Keep it up man
Vaibhav Chhaya the encouragement helps a lot! thx!
sos un crack! thanks!
Can someone tell me why in “I wish”
The D9b5 works
Is there any effects used... Or its just their guitars that give them that awesome sound
Hey I just wondering, can I do this with acustic guitar?? Im just a beginner who really adore to play Tom fish's sone one day
of course! it will just sound different
for this song in particular isn't it better to play the C#m7 (b5) and F#7 (#5) chords doing a barre with your index? it makes transitioning from those last three chords (Gmaj7 included) far easier. you can also use the ringer to reinforce the barre, basically you just change ringer and pinky positions.

It's in this video! Haha
i think Jonathan, you are referring to the interlude before the song starts?
he plays some really cool chords there!
i started adding exclusive videos on my patreon on page, and the I Wish intro is one of them! check it out: www.patreon.com/jhillguitar
@@NastySoulGuitarLessons Would love a breakdown of his solo in I Wish! Would pay to have that explained to me- its insane !
Killian Connolly cool! if you would like a lesson via skype, email me at: hemphillmusic@gmail.com
Can you do this on an acoustic guitar?
Miguel Sanchez ofcourse its harder though especially if you’re a beginner but keep practicing and you will get it eventually
Miguel Sanchez sure! acoustic and electric just have different tones and different size strings
What was the other guitAr player plying on the second verse of the second song "I wish"
Dude nice
bearthecrown thx! glad u dig
This was 💯 awesome. Thank you!
does anyone know where i can find the little lick tom does in i wish at the beginning
Diego Uriarte i did a short vid on that. ruclips.net/video/34h521tZgZU/видео.html
thank you!!
What pedal is he using for his solo on I wish? A Qtron?
Brett Tickell i’m not sure
I am wondering the same.
I think it's Moog Low Pass Filter
What would this chord progression be in number system terms?

Hey somebody know wisch pedal he us to keep a note like he do for example on i wish at 3:36?
You might want to consider filming in HD...
Wdo you know what is the key of the progression?
which song?
Hey man can you teach us the beautiful introduction of "I wish" ?
