Fujitsu Horizon system is Introduced and installed in Alan Bates' Post Office around 2nd October 2000 and was greeted with an underwhelming response due to a lack of reporting available Alan Bates tells the Post Office Inquiry.
Subpostmaster Alan Bates had the reasonable expectation that he would be able to produce reports that would enable him to investigate and resolve any apparent shortfalls or overages but was quickly frustrated by the lack of capability in the system as well as that the Post Office also seemingly couldn't access the information when required either.

2:13 Para 15: This partially answers a question I asked elsewhere. It clarifies that SPMs were not involved in discussions about the introduction of Horizon, *but* did their contracts permit POL to introduce the system without SPM _agreement_ to this change in contract ?
Alan Bates had expertise way beyond his pay grade, and had that not been so this POL dungheap would never have been revealed.
I used to use the Craig y Don PO at the time this was happening - it was just around the corner from my favourite bistro, _La Gatte_ . I never realised the POL shit that was being cascaded on these poor people.

It only reduces the burden in the organisation IF they want to know that their system isn’t working as intended and then improve it.

The gentleman questioned today being 11/04/2024 being Sir Michael Hodgkinson who was an overall chairman. Wanted to know if the system (Meaning Horizon) could handle the NEW PRODUCTS POL was making available. I find this most interesting. Question. Is it possible that the Horizon software fell short of handling certain newly introduced products correctly?

It is possible that horizon is a tarted up heritage ICL system that came with the Fujitsu acquisition of ICL. It may be worth investigating whether ICL has a record of litigation or settlements scattered in the private sector accounts world. The intense level of horizon protection could be resultant from a desire to protect Fujitsu share investments PLUS protect high level software and sales people that migrated to Fujitsu. This reeks of criminality and Mala fide driven by an
