I love at the end that he just looks at her kind of like "my concerts are being sold out and my own daughter is crying because I'm singing"...nothing more humbling than a child's honest opinion. That being said...I could listen to either brother sing for the rest of my life and be perfectly content.
The realness of these two dudes is what makes them so rad! This video is, to me, what makes them cool. Simple dudes, singing simple songs, with not so simple messages.... righteous.
I thought when my kids did this to me that it was just a reflection of the quality of my singing and playing but I can see now that it happens to the best, too! At least she didn't mash your fingers, Scott.
No matter how bad my day gets I can always lift my spirits coming to watch this this. Always leaves me with a smile in my soul & tear in my eye. Good stuff right here.
When your Daddy is a huge music star, but you are 3 yrs old & you rule the world. I remember seeing an interview with Robin Williams & his little boy said, "Can you please stop being funny and just be my Dad?" I also saw an interview with Faith Hill & her daughter said , "Mommy, how come you've never won a Grammy?" Faith said, "I have won 3, but your Daddy & I leave that fame at the door."Our kids set us straight, every time, always. And that is a GOOD THING!
Something I remember from working in a medical setting is that beautiful songs like this would often cause uncontrollable weeping with the patients and residents. Organs seemed to cause the most grief. The patients and their friends told me the same thing regarding the cause of such sadness, and that is that this music all brought back memories of church services with loved ones being present. It especially reminded everyone of those dreaded funerals and all of the sadness involved.
What a show of experience on stage. Your daughter is grabbing your hands, you can still keep the song going. Love how he gets a hand free, and starts to play again. How fun.
I love, love, love that ya'll posted this. I'm sure this is something that 100% of parents of young kids (and perhaps even older ones) can identify with 100%. Thanks for all ya'll do. Y'all rock and are such an encouragement to our lives and world right now.
I literally watch this over and over everyday, sing it all day, and everytime I lead singing at church its one of the songs I choose. I absolutely love this! :) Thank you Scott, your amazing! Hopefully he'll put an album together of old Gospels, cuz I've heard the avett brothers do a few now.
oh God, she is so cute! CLOSE it daddy! Oh, and Avett Bbros; opening for DMB at the Gorge was AMAZING I can't get enough of you guys now. Thanks for the music,
what a great song. what better way to walk closer with than walking with family, especially your child. my daughter does the same to me when playing guitar. what blessings. That being said.....i would love to see/hear this song done in it's entirety. thx for everything.
What an awesome video! Watching Scott be a great (and patient) daddy is wonderful! Eleanor really does have his beautiful blue eyes. A handsome man and a lovely little girl...Scott and Sarah...you make beautiful babies!
One day that little girl will grow up with children of her own. That man will be gone from this earth. She'll watch this video in tears wishing to hear him again while her child cries and begs her to stop playing that video. That child will then grow up with children... The Avett Brothers have saved my life many of times. I thank whatever is out there for music, especially theirs.
I love the new lines of older songs like Murder in the city, mentioning his kids and wife versus his sister and parents. God damn, the Avett brothers band have changed nearly all of their lineage based lyrics of the years I’ve seen then to shed light in growth. Both brothers penned many and most of the songs and they’re living documents to their experiences through the depths of love and the pain of loss.
Well that wasn't the most adorable thing I've seen all day/week/month/year or anything. He's so gentle and patient with her. I love it! And she's adorable. Dems good genes!
beautiful song. what better way to walk closer with than with family, especially your child. my daughter does the same to me when playing guitar. blessings. That being said. i'd love to hear/see this done in its entirety. thx for everything.
This is a song that I sing with my 4 sisters often, so I was looking forward to hearing his version. This made me LOL so hard! I have 5 children, so I can relate to multitasking...just adding to the million reasons why I love this family so much!
The look on Scott's face is a look that all Fathers have had with their kids at one point...one of unconditional love but a little frustration as well...been there
I love a strong willed child! God Bless her she knows what she wants and she is not afraid to ask for it, a great trait that will bring her much happiness ( and some frustration) LOL
Scott, this is a wonderful video that shows more about you and your family than your music ever will. Having said that...please, please, please, please dont bring her to a show when she is in this mood.
Had to watch it again since I didn't get a chance to finish it on my first go round before work. Such a big smile on my face right now. She's gorgeous (so's her daddy...) :P
What a beautiful father and daughter. I'm sure she'll appreciate it when she is older. She'll have fond memories of Daddy singing to her, she won't remember pulling his hands away from the keys.
When you thought you couldn't love him/them more... She is precious. He is calm, cool and cute as hell trying to deal with her...and still singing the hell out of that song!! What struck me and a few other friends of mine who watched this... Because our kids adore us for different reasons than everyone else! :) It struck me that she is probably very jealous of the very thing that we all love him for...since it takes him away so much. And lastly, the end! Where she walks off. His face!
Parents unite! This shows Scott's persistence- if you can outwit a 3-4 year old and get your song finished, that's a major accomplishment! She's a lovely little lass- probably just wanted her way- may have an iron will like dad:) bravo on the song too:)
I am so madly in love with this man
Whenever I'm having a bad day I come and watch this video and get happy.
We can have a bunch of good days together. Let's go get dinner sometime.
I love at the end that he just looks at her kind of like "my concerts are being sold out and my own daughter is crying because I'm singing"...nothing more humbling than a child's honest opinion. That being said...I could listen to either brother sing for the rest of my life and be perfectly content.
This is my favorite video on youtube
DemonDeacon21 mine too
Everyone's a critic.

Thanks for this comment man! Definetly this!
Amen Charles ! : )
I know right!! Just some brothers singing. Makes me wonder how many other brothers I know that might be able to sing!
Right on the money
Haha, that was perfect! I love how he was able to laugh and not get frustrated:)
My 8 year old has been watching this on repeat for an hour. This made my heart so happy today.
That gave me a chuckle... Beautiful young lady being ...young. God Bless you all!
Our loved ones are sometimes are greatest critics.
That is so something my son would do. How adorable and he is so talented to keep right on playing
My heart melted.... so sweet
I thought when my kids did this to me that it was just a reflection of the quality of my singing and playing but I can see now that it happens to the best, too! At least she didn't mash your fingers, Scott.
I used to do this to my dad sometimes when he would play his guitar, now I'm always telling him to get it out & play! Lol
No matter how bad my day gets I can always lift my spirits coming to watch this this. Always leaves me with a smile in my soul & tear in my eye. Good stuff right here.
I'm agnostic and I've never had an interest in gospel music...but I absolutely adore this. Record a gospel album, and I'll buy it too!
First time I heard that song was in the movie, “Cool Hand Luke”. Love it even with the little girl backup vocal.
That's hysterical, bright blessings to all who see this!
His daughter made 9 accounts so she could dislike his singing 9 times
LOL
I love you Scott!
That was super cute to watch! I love how he smiles at her and keeps singing and OMG...she is so stinkin' cute!!

Best. Video. Ever. It is impossible not to smile while watching this.
i can't wait for her to get older and watch this.... She has no idea what her Daddies singing means to all of us. So sweet and innocent!
As a dad of a child a similar age, this is exactly how it is. I commend thee Scott.

Fantastic pure spontaneous entertainment. Anyone with children will understand.
Scott.Nothing stops you! So awesome! Love you guys for keeping it real!
Love this! Good daddy singing great music + precious little ears present = beautiful daddy/daughter relationship for years to come.
when he says "come on, baby! sing it!", my heart melts. he is such a good man.
❤❤She still hasn't mastered the wrapping around the finger yet! What an interaction.

This is so cute. And Scott Avett has the nicest smile
Would love to hear him sing this song again with the piano. Simply beautiful.
What an awesome video! Watching Scott be a great (and patient) daddy is wonderful! Eleanor really does have his beautiful blue eyes. A handsome man and a lovely little girl...Scott and Sarah...you make beautiful babies!

Good job, Scott, getting through the entire song. Now that's a professional musician! Keep playing on no matter what.
Most adorable thing ever
This is far too perfect for word

So great! Thanks for posting that!
What a beautiful father and daughter. I'm sure she'll appreciate it when she is older. She'll have fond memories of Daddy singing to her, she won't remember pulling his hands away from the keys.
The irony of him singing "Let it be, dear Lord, let it be" as she gets more and more upset is just great
When you thought you couldn't love him/them more...
She is precious.
He is calm, cool and cute as hell trying to deal with her...and still singing the hell out of that song!!

I have been a die hard Avett Brothers fan for a while now. This is by far my favorite video!
Lol! I love it. Seriously, seriously cute. Thanks for helping me start my dad with a smile!!!
Oh, if he were my daddy, I would be holding the piano open FOR him!! I love seeing people sharing real music and smiles with their kids!!
What a lucky little girl to be able to hear her father sing so often that she's that tired of it!
God bless you guys. I laughed so hard I was cryin.
THIS IS FAMILY!!!!!
This is definitely the cutest video I have ever seen...what I would give to be called 'babe' by scott avett!
I've had this in my head for two days!! Totally been here before...my daughter shuts the top too and she turns my tuners on my guitar or banjo...
Priceless
been there!! Love the "close it daddy, close it". Sometimes they just don't want to listen to us. ;)
