I really thought this was the end for my Salvage Ferrari 360 Spider, but the car had a different agenda. Plus I bought a $700 Jeep Grand Cherokee wholesale (was a trade-in) at a dealer auction, and it was kinda nice, so we tried to get it to run....

4.7s and 3.7s are some of the most garbage motors ever made. Do something cool and do a 4.0 swap on it, people would love it. Or sell the seats and shoot it out of a cannon. Its garbage otherwise, and whoever you sell it to is going to have to deal with it blowing up in a year or two, and will feel completely ripped off. I used to run a shop where we rebuilt mopar 3.7s and 4.7s, and I found it to be morally irresponsible to continue doing so, so we told everyone who owned them to get toyotas and abandon the platform.

The process of troubleshooting and how you resolve each problem (issue) is something that I enjoy and make me aware for what to watch on my own car. On the types of cars... It is interesting to see some bigger projects like the i8, Ferrari, Lamborghini, but let's be real - none of those projects would be completed if you haven't flipped a few cheaper cars. So... I think a mixture of the two would be great - big projects with fancy and expensive cars alongside with small projects with cheap cars.

I worked at Jeep dealers in the service department several years. The 4.7 doesn’t have a particularly robust cylinder head clamping package and they are very prone to do this. Every one I’ve ever seen needed at least one head, the warpage spec is .007”, so basically any warpage means the head is junk, so yes a new engine is the answer. What you saw with borescope is likely from the cylinder filling with coolant and damaging the engine on the compression stroke. For the record I like a mix of exotic cars and low budget builds. And as always GO GATORS.

I like seeing good cheap cars fixed up and put on the road again. An occasional super car is cool too if it gets finished.

I think when the timing chain was done it wasn’t line up correctly and messed up the engine.

@ SAMCRAC> Whereas we love to see exotic cars on occasion the excitement is lost on a vehicle that becomes a long term project. True enthusiasts of certain platform's may enjoy it but as I don't speak for all, I enjoy seeing everyday vehicles with just a tad of uniqueness brought back to life and enjoyed by the average person.

Sam I think you doing it right don't focus on just one type of build. I like to mix it up one week the expensive sports cars and the next get that cheap built in I actually really like the cheap builds maybe more than the expensive builds but sometimes it's cool to see something I can't afford

I could tell on the first cough the compression was bad. It's a botched timing chain job. There's been vales and pistons kissing. Some are just more bent than others. Best bet is to chuck a new engine in.

Haven't finished video yet, but I have owned a few Jeeps with the Mercedes 4.7L v8. They are decent engines if you take care of them. My 99 GC Limited has the 4.7L with over 2300000 miles on it. Was very well taken care of and runs perfect. But if you neglect the 4.7L at all it will die. Regular oil changes. Don't over heat it too many times. Tune ups regularly. And it will run forever. Used engine around $1500. With good engine and all cleaned up I've seen them sell for around $5k. So you definitely got a good deal. Make for a good flip or daily driver.

The Achilles tendon for most 4.0 and 3.7 Pentastar drivelines are the transmissions. They were made to last 125k miles. When you rebuilt them there's a polymer insert that costs $ 1.75. They were used since there's 12-15 different vehicle model that share the same tranny. I replaced mine on my Liberty with a rebuilt Mitsubishi (dr50)7 years ago. now I have 300k on a 15 year old car. Also add a larger diameter hose on the tranny cooling system.

    $750 off road tires

$500 roof rack and some other off road equipments
Total $4500 put $500 for more cool stuff
Got yourself nice off road rig
    Total win win 🏆

I had a 5.9 Magnum in a Durango. If I let it sit for a few weeks the ECU used to take ages to let the engine fire. Once it was going and spluttering it used to take 10 minutes driving around the block and it would then tick over and was fine from then on.
