Also if you plan on gaming I heard SD is better because more developers work with SD instead of Mediatek. Correct me if I am wrong. I am still doing research I am debating on getting a second phone for just some light gaming and pokemon go so I debating on getting a phone with mediatek or SD.

Higher GHz and more cores are not always better when it comes to SoCs. What should be considered is:
    1. SoC instruction set/architecture, the Cortex-AXX cores thing with the XX as numerical values indicating the ARM Cortex Architecture. Generally, the higher the number, the better and more powerful the SoC is.
    2. The fabrication process, which is the X nanometer process, with the X being a number indicating the size of the transistors in the SoC. The smaller the nanometers, the more power efficient the SoC is in general.

I have 2 phones right now.
One is running SD 730- my MI 9T
One is running Helio P70- my Oppo F11 Pro( my daily driver)
Been using the Mi9T for a month already while oppo for 4 months.
    Same 4000mAh battery.
    Comparison:
    1. Both has no heating problems on heavy games such as PubG and Honkai Impact 3.
    2. My Oppo f11 pro consumes more battery when playing games compared to the Mi9T, however is more efficient in handling the battery when it comes to social media and watching videos.
    3. Software- Same level of smoothness. I like MIUI more than color OS.
    4. Mi-9T has better display but is not that noticeable when compared to IPS LCD of my oppo. I also like the in display fingerprint scanner.
    5. What made me decide to have oppo f11 pro as my daily driver is because of the cameras. They are just far better. I think the mediatek processors have better AI scene recognition and postpicture processing. Another reason is the VOOC 3.0 charging. I can charge my phone from 20 to 100% in less than 1hr compared to the QC 3.0 in MI9T which takes me 1hr and 30mins. Last reason is in the LTE signals. My oppo f11 supports all 4 LTE bands of Globe. I never encountered any problem in connectivity kahit pa sa CR ako mag ML. Kaso sa MI9T kahit sa loob ng bahay hina makasagap ng signal. Kaya di ko na nagagamit masyado.
Summary: Better game performance and battery efficiency- go for snapdagon. Flr midrange phones go SD
If you want more efficient chipset for social media and video streaming, go for mediatek. Entry level phones- mediatek.

The reason I mostly go for SNAPDRAGON variants is because of the lengthy support it gets and XDA devs lot to tinker around with them. You get what you pay for with a SD SoC, less issues if ever there was one there will be a solution like the infamous SD 810 overheating debacle of years back now Qualcomm has been doing well balancing performance and heat.

If entry level phone naman good for 1-2 years and looking for better performance for gaming (not saying na di nagtatagal ang mediatek processor my statements are only base on our experiences) mag mediatek kana. Madami ngayon ang entry level phones na ang gamit mediatek chipset obviously mas mura chipset na nilagay mas mura nila mabebenta, ngayon madami din ang phone companies na gumagamit na mediatek g series. Kung mag mediatek kayo diko recommend na mag a-series o p-series dun na kayo sa g-series , the g series is built pang gaming so it should be more enhanced than there other series madami na ngayon ang cheap phone na naka g series patusin nio na kung ako sa inyo.
My statement is only base on experience may nagamit kaming mediatek phone na nasira by software at meron naman snapdragon nasira physically.Nasasayo parin kung maingat ka sa selpon na protected mo ang pang labas at hindi ka dl nang dl tatagal at tatagal.

Nowadays just buy the best phone available in the market that's value for money for a long run. The smartphone race is getting out of control and it is best to wait for at least 2 or 3 years from now to buy a phone that is not half baked with latest tech. Always buy the branded ones that people can trust and never buy weird chinese brands such as Ulefone, Umidigi, Dodgee and etc.

Like what Joey said, Android chipset such as SD and MT are dependent on the design structures of ARM, they chipset companies that basically research what'd best for a phone that will he made for their chipset. Apple on the other hand doesn't have that problem. They simply just make one for an iPhone model and that's it... no other brands, no other designs, no other specs, no other chu chu. That's why you can say that the Apple chipset is the best since they are used only in their own models. However, on the other SD needs to be flexible for it to perform better on a specific brand/model of a smartphone

Vid has a point but IMO you dont just buy a phone coz of the procie. Cam, RAM management and esp battery capacity for me are big factors too. I've tried both Snapdragon and Mediatek.
