It's interesting that this deal with the soldered 8GB on the motherboard, runs for some time at Asus (various other Zephyrus models), but apart from single channel vs dual channel tests (8+8=16), I could not find anywhere on the net performance tests with 24GB (8+16). It would be interesting to test impact in games with the discrete GPU and the APU as well.
I bought this laptop 4 days ago and have to say it runs like a champ so far. I had no problem playing Hitman 2 on the highest settings and the processor blazes through games like football manager all countries loaded (most are view only) and total war games. I checked the temp on Armoury crate at times and the highest temps I saw were between 85-87c. The fans are loud and ran around 45db max. Overall I love it but have to caveat I also have a MacBook and really only use the Asus for gaming. If I could only have one laptop I probably wouldn’t buy this because of the lack of webcam and color accuracy but as a secondary laptop used entirely for gaming it’s absolutely fantastic.
Thanks for this wonderful review. I'm considering selling my current laptop and buying the 240 hz version of the G15, and I was 1) wondering about upgradability especially since i have a 2 tb ssd I would like to put into it without wasting the 1 tb already inside (the 1tb option is the only one I found available), and 2) whether or not the 240 hz version is worth the money. Your video is the first one I found that had information about these issues I have.
Watched your review before i bought a G15 with R9 4900H and Rtx2060 max Q 3 month's ago, since I was confused whether to get G14 or G15. so far I'm satisfied with how it performs while gaming and working.
This is probably the most reasonably priced, best bang for the buck GAMING laptop. Well done asus and amd. Love it when the 2 budget bois work together.
Excellent review, literally the best I have seen yet. PLeasant surroundings, described everything, pros and cons, especially the screen and graphics editing. Kinda of torn between this one and spending a bit more. I have a desktop with Ryzen 5 3600x and Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB and it's great. Trying to find a laptop comparable since mine is a loner.
Trying to stay with Ryzen, I am looking for a laptop that will give me excellent gaming and editing abilities. I play via HDMI to TV, so 15” screen is s fine. Suggestions since you are knowledgeable? Thanks
Just picked up the last year GU502GV last week on sale with RTX 2060 and 9750H 240HZ 16 Gb 512 gb variant, So far its good running all the demanding titles on high settings and giving decent thermals on fan settings set to windows. And I am sure there won't be hardly any more than 10 FPS difference if I would have gotten the newer version so save yourself some bucks and pick the last year version instead.
The fan covers wha? I love the smell of bs in the morning. So that plastic suffocates the laptop and raises the component temps and voids the warranty if you remove them....
aaahm actually it makes perfect sense to have them since those grills are intake grills not output and when air comes in the plastic sheets slightly lift up and let the air come in, this video explains it so bad, Im sorry that people watch this and then get the wrong idea. Those are there just to keep the intake filtered kind of from taking in large pieces of dust and other things you don't want in your laptop.
@@gokalpcetin4763 Holy shit cant believe people actually buy into this shit. The grills exist on the intel variant without any shitty cover in the back, but they expect to undermine the performance of the 4800h by using it. How tf does a 100% opaque piece of plastic work as filter?
@@prathamdave5849 Yea, I found his comment odd too. I have also seen both in person. It's the same vents, with exception of covers applied to the AMD variants. Wonder why they did this? ;)
Nice review, also kudos for factoring in the height of the laptop in your review, a small but good to know detail a lot of other reviewers don't usually add into their reviews
You have to unscrew the bottom cover like shown in this video. For the covers, you would have to use a thin flathead tool to pry off the metal parts holding the black plastic covers. I took out both the metal cover and the plastic cover. This worked well for the laptop’s performance and was worth it for me. But yeah if you haven’t bought this laptop I just wouldn’t.
Glad that you mentioned the 144hz panel downside as i was about to get this laptop for autocad, illustrator, gaming and day trading . It would be a let down if I had not seen your review , thx heaps!!
you have definitely got the price wrong. I’ve watched a few videos and checked some websites and the 240 Hz RTX 2060 Ryzen 7 4800HS version costs 1399$.
Very good and detailed review. I'm still not understanding why Asus is using MAX Q graphics card even in their bigger 15 inch chassis. For 14 inch chassis, I can understand the reason of thermal constrains but for 15.6 chassis, this does not make any sense at all.
Once again, great review like always. And also would you guys review the new MSI GS66? I really need to know it's temps and battery life for i am a student and also a competitive gamer
If you’re looking into this laptop, i game constantly and get good performance on majority FPS games, it has great performance, the only downside is the very loud fan that kicks in while gaming, if you have game audio and headphones on, it shouldn’t be to bad for you
great review. i just got one of these in may. i did not get a warranty with best buy and i might just go ahead and open it and remove those fan covers in a few months
Always a catch. Asus lower end have bad screens. Msi gs66 looks amazing but very expensive for its specs. And they have well known build quality issues! Lenovo seems to be the best overall in the budget region
I'm not actually too fussed about the colour accuracy for myself, but the response times on the 144Hz panels used on Intel based Asus laptops have been great and since the colour accuracy in them was better than this I can only guess it's not the same panel model. I don't understand why they didn't just use the same bloody panels :(
Maybe they are not confident with AMD processor for laptop yet, i think they are still "testing the waters" before they fully give in with better screen and non maxq gpu.
Minor correction at around the 3:00 mark: Zephyrus laptops are actually metal. I don't know if they keyboard deck is covered in thick paint or if it's just a plastic shell, but if you open the laptop and peak underneath near the battery and trackpad area, you can see it's made of a magnesium unibody.
There's definitely metal in the chassis, but the final feel (whether due to an extra layer, or the paint) remains plastic-y. Not sure how much it matters in the end, but it does become a bit complicated to talk about :D
@@TechTesters it certainly is a complicated subject, just thought it was worth mentioning as in my personal experience, plastic chassis don't last as long. Still a great review and I hope my comments don't come off the wrong way
Just bought this laptop mainly because you also showed the 2nd M2 slot and benchmarks :) My first AMD pc since the early 00s and a good upgrade from the 7700HQ
This was a perfect review. Thank you so much. I’m considering this laptop (spec’d the exact same) or a P1 Gen 3. I’m now leaning towards the thinkpad because of the single ram slot, lack of camera, less color accurate display, high temps, and slightly less ram, even if it is around $150 dollars cheaper. What are your thoughts on the P1 Gen 3?
@@TechTesters The Thinkpad's primary use is for workstation things such as Solidworks or other similar applications. This means that the P1 Gen 3 has a Quadro GPU. I currently am looking at one with an i7-10750h, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, Quadro T1000 Max-Q (about the same performance as a GTX 1650), and a 1080p 60hz display that is pretty bright and color accurate. I've done a little bit more research since posting that comment, and it seems to me that a P1 Gen 3 will stay just a few degrees cooler, but the AMD performance and a GTX 1660 TI is a very tempting offer (at a lower price, too). The only drawbacks that I see to the Zephyrus is heat, lack of webcam, and single ram slot, which means that the maximum possible ram is 24gb running in single-channel mode (assuming I understood everything correctly). What are your thoughts on the matter, if any? Sorry I kinda typed a whole essay.
You are doing great. But its just my opinion, if you compare this laptop with others, then please use popular gaming laptop. I did not see any Acer Predator series laptop in comparison but you did compare Intel "U" CPU series laptop in comparision. Again, its just my opinion. I love to see your reviews. Thumb Up.
Nice review cheers! Waiting for G14/G15 to start popping up for sale in New Zealand and Australia, keen to buy one just need to decide which one and with what specs.
Wonder why the vents are blocked? Why does the *AMD* version with 144hz display uses a panda display 144hz 20ms 56%srgb colour accuracy? Why the intel version has unblocked vents, great 144hz display 3ms 100%srgb colour accuracy?
This. Fuck this Asus G15, horrible temps, silent mode has abysmal performance, basically either way you're fucked using it lmao. Either loud airplane-jet with good performance or silent with terrible fps.
Thanks! I can't see a mentioned response time. Feels pretty similar to most recent panels, so I'd assume it's 3-5 as well. As for the speakers, they're "meh". Good enough for informative videos, not something to really get excited over, watch movies on or play games with. Grab a headset for gaming for sure.
This is the hottest computer I've ever used. And by "hot" I don't mean awesome, good, fast, etc. I mean it consistently runs at 96 degrees Celsius (204 degrees Fahrenheit), with the cooling fans going nigh full blast essentially without respite. It gets hot quickly (after only a short time gaming), stays hot, and just just seems to keep getting warmer. The body of the laptop above the F keys (near the screen) gets so hot, it will literally BURN you (reaching 140 degrees Fahrenheit for me), if you touch it for more than a second or two. It's like gaming on a stove top for Pete's sake. Heat progresses (over time) down the middle of the keyboard to the top of the touchpad, until only the outer most (lateral) edges of the keyboard remain relatively cool. I feel compelled to turn off my game at that point because it shows no indication of stopping. And this is in a room with the ceiling fan on high and the AC turned down to 62 degrees. I was sitting in a cold room, fully clothed, wearing a light jacket trying to mitigate the overheating. It didn't work.
Did you keep the laptop (Asus G15) or sell it? I just bought one and deeply regret it, I had no clue how bad the temps were, how loud the fans were, how bad the wifi is, etc lol.
@@vvvios. I returned it ASAP. The exterior of the body reached 140 degrees (Fahrenheit). I posted video and images of me using a thermometer to show the temperature on another site. But unfortunately I can't do that here. This thing is a furnace, and there's no way I'd keep it.
@@conservovirtus5796 Don't worry I can 100% vouch for you, the temps are absymal, I will never buy another Asus product in my entire life. I should have went with MSI, Lenovo, etc. I bought mine used for $700 and luckily can resell it on ebay for roughly that or more, but the hassle sucks ass lol For anyone wondering, the Asus G15 1660ti has two modes: airplane-jet-loud-with-insane-overheating, or terrible-performance-silent-mode-why-did-you-even-buy-a-gaming-laptop-fps-drops mode. Those are the two modes (technically the middle Performance mode is just airplane jet engine mode, same as Turbo mode.)

Even 1180€ in EuroRTV now :D 1200€ for Windows included. Considering prices of other AMD laptops and their availability in Poland, it is indeed a bargain!
Man I have to subscribe to your channel. You're like the only one who got the MSI Bravo reviewed and now you got the G15? Subscribed! I would get a Bravo IF the screen improves for a productivity device. Mainly music production. My current laptop is a Whiskey Lake quad core i5 that runs well enough (I tested it in Cinebench). But for heavier tasks, I wouldn't mind having the power of that Ryzen.
Thanks! :) For music production though, does 60% sRGB hurt? I know it sounds low, but in reality it's not that huge a difference imho until you get to color critical work.
I frankly just wouldn’t recommend this one because of the vent covers. I removed my covers and the performance improved significantly, but just buy a different laptop without this flaw.
Had two fail in a row. Gpu fan bearing failure on the first one and a dodgy screen on the replacement. It's a nice machine, looks and feels great. Awesomely powerful for the price, and agree the screen is a bit of a let down, but has a nice matte non-glare finish which I quite liked. However if you need to do photo/video editing, plug it into a separate decent monitor. The lack of ability to upgrade ram is a bit of a dissapointment. Probably the best laptop for the money at the moment though. Just not sure if there is a build quality issue, or just crap couriers treating them badly during delivery. Also having had to replace it twice and now 3 months down the line awaiting a new machine has taken some of the novelty and joy of a new laptop out of it.
It's all roses and sunshine until you get to the display/price. Man these companies know how to disappoint their customers. BTW, when do we get to see the GF65/GS66 STEALTH individual reviews with those 10th gen chips?
I'll see if i can get a 240Hz version, that should at least make the display creative-capable. GF65 will be the next, or at least one of the next video's. It's a bit rough to plan things now with everything being closed here, but soon! GS66 Stealth, no ETA yet, as the sample I had didn't have the final 300Hz display and I don't think there is a point reviewing it until i have the final version of that.
Thunderbolt missing is understood since it is not an intel-based laptop. No webcam, 1 onboard soldered ram, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A but not Gen 2 is really a problem. Otherwise, it is a nice machine.
Hello! Great reviews and channel, very interesting to watch. I'm currently looking for a gamer/creation laptop and I'm hesitating between the Asus M15 240Hz and RTX 2060 and the MSI Stealth (with the RTX 2070 Max-Q). I'm concerned and the heat and 4k videos editing performances. Which one would you recommend (or do you have any other suggestion perhaps)? Thanks a lot!
Asus just updated the product page for the G15 to no longer include the 4900HS as an option. I bet the 32GB RAM option is also never going to materialize
Only thing missing is comparing the battery with the G14 :/ also this laptop could have been perfect but the plastic build and high temps is a dealbreaker

Nice, enjoy it 😁
FINALLY someone reviews the G15. Thank you techtesters
This is probably the most reasonably priced, best bang for the buck GAMING laptop. Well done asus and amd. Love it when the 2 budget bois work together.
Haha Ive never heard Asus be called a "budget boi" 😂
Loved the * disclaimer you put on the advert in huge letters .. 🤣
Thanks
For editting you'll want that sRGB gamut. 240Hz G15 should be a good choice there. But I can't judge other models I haven't seen yet.
How the heck are people getting these laptops retail? I want to buy one, but it looks like I'll have to wait until at least May.
They have stores
@@S1nw1th1n i was pretty close to picking that one up for $1350, but I think I will wait instead.
I got mine the day that Newegg put them for sale, I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it, it flies
@@S1nw1th1n since the price went back to normal, I had to pick this one up :( it's fine though :) can't wait to play VR with it tomorrow
I'm always so impressed by how well shot and edited your review videos are. Everything is so clean and vibrant. Great work! 100k subs incoming!
Wonder why they did this? ;)
@@gokalpcetin4763 Nope!
Nice review, also kudos for factoring in the height of the laptop in your review, a small but good to know detail a lot of other reviewers don't usually add into their reviews
Can you make a video on how to remove the fan vent blocks without damaging any other components?
Just dont buy this laptop
You have to unscrew the bottom cover like shown in this video. For the covers, you would have to use a thin flathead tool to pry off the metal parts holding the black plastic covers. I took out both the metal cover and the plastic cover. This worked well for the laptop’s performance and was worth it for me.
But yeah if you haven’t bought this laptop I just wouldn’t.
Svaka cast na prezentaciji. Ove godine u svakom slucaju kupujem AMD Renoir laptop, pa cekam vase buduce testove. Hvala.
Okay time to go down the rabbit hole with this channel and see what’s up haha
Glad that you mentioned the 144hz panel downside as i was about to get this laptop for autocad, illustrator, gaming and day trading . It would be a let down if I had not seen your review , thx heaps!!
you have definitely got the price wrong. I’ve watched a few videos and checked some websites and the 240 Hz RTX 2060 Ryzen 7 4800HS version costs 1399$.
Shubham Shakya that’s the US region. She is talking about prices in the EU region, which can have quite a big difference in retail prices.
I am hesitating between this and the A15.... Such a tough choice
If you can afford/find it, G15 with 240Hz display :)
The review I've been waiting for
Very good and detailed review. I'm still not understanding why Asus is using MAX Q graphics card even in their bigger 15 inch chassis. For 14 inch chassis, I can understand the reason of thermal constrains but for 15.6 chassis, this does not make any sense at all.
I haven't seen the G14 yet, but I assume they put more money into the cooling?
@@TechTesters G14 is also having RTX 2060 Max Q but the considering the form factor, that's expected.
Once again, great review like always.
And also would you guys review the new MSI GS66? I really need to know it's temps and battery life for i am a student and also a competitive gamer
Not 3 minutes in you almost Sold me this thing 👌 Key aspects in super short time, perfect delivery 🙋♂️
Glad you liked it!
Your hair looks wonderful. I'm guessing hair salons are still open in the Netherlands?
Oh I wish! They are all closed, unfortunately. DIY :)
If you’re looking into this laptop, i game constantly and get good performance on majority FPS games, it has great performance, the only downside is the very loud fan that kicks in while gaming, if you have game audio and headphones on, it shouldn’t be to bad for you
the no webcam is a dealbreaker for me
the no webcam is a GO for me
Just bought it. This laptop is beast! Its nice!
Asus tuf A15 next pleasee!! Ur review is so amazing
In the making ;) And thanks!
Ignore that laptop. Trash screen

tuf vs rog ? last years versions ??
great review. i just got one of these in may. i did not get a warranty with best buy and i might just go ahead and open it and remove those fan covers in a few months
Intel: Who are you!!!
Amd: i am your friend but strong and cheaper
ASUS: But Intel gives us more money so we're going to block the vents on our AMD laptops to make AMD CPUs look hotter
@@ArmourGX Money = everything
First time chancing upon this channel. I think you guys really deserve more subscribers. Great content, keep it up!
Seems to be a theme with these AMD laptops so far: hobbled with sub-optimal screens :(
Always a catch. Asus lower end have bad screens. Msi gs66 looks amazing but very expensive for its specs. And they have well known build quality issues!
Lenovo seems to be the best overall in the budget region
the 240Hz should be much better color wise!
I think they do that to achieve the price point.
Thanks for calling out thermals and the screen. Good honest review 👍
7:48 that damn uneven length screws exist in their non-gaming products as well sadly
Still a great review and I hope my comments don't come off the wrong way
Key light for plants 😂😂😂
Love your plants!! As a landscape designer I appreciate to see also the nice gaming laptop
Just discovered this channel. Keep up the good job!
Just bought this laptop mainly because you also showed the 2nd M2 slot and benchmarks :) My first AMD pc since the early 00s and a good upgrade from the 7700HQ
What is Panel's Response Time ?
& Battery Size ? Speakers Quality ?
How are the thermals while gaming?
Due to Easter I will receive the laptop coming Tuesday/Wednesday. Very excited.
I don't know the P1, does it have gaming specs at all? I like Thinkpads in general though, but mostly as durable office laptops.
Thumb Up.
Good review! Been thinking about buying this or the G14 version when they come out. Might go for this one because of the bigger display.
And much better screen response time!
@@gianmarcopow-sang8690 so does the G15 have confirmed better response time for the screen than the G14 on the 1080p 120/144Hz screens?
@@roman993_ the 240hz screen has a 3ms response time as per asus' product details on their site
Nice review cheers!
Waiting for G14/G15 to start popping up for sale in New Zealand and Australia, keen to buy one just need to decide which one and with what specs.
Love the content.. Your reviews are top-notch. Keep up the good work
Fantastic review, but what is the sound quality like?
Wonder why the vents are blocked? Why does the *AMD* version with 144hz display uses a panda display 144hz 20ms 56%srgb colour accuracy? Why the intel version has unblocked vents, great 144hz display 3ms 100%srgb colour accuracy?
This. Fuck this Asus G15, horrible temps, silent mode has abysmal performance, basically either way you're fucked using it lmao. Either loud airplane-jet with good performance or silent with terrible fps.
I am so excited about these new CPU's. I have been putting off replacing my aging laptop and holding out for AMD
What is 144Hz Panel's Response Time ?
& Battery Size ? Speakers Quality ?
New to Channel. Liked your Review. You've my Sub.
3ms & 76Wh I think.
@@ethanHat official website has 3ms only for 240Hz panel. So, confused
I bought mine used for $700 and luckily can resell it on ebay for roughly that or more, but the hassle sucks ass lol
For anyone wondering, the Asus G15 1660ti has two modes: airplane-jet-loud-with-insane-overheating, or terrible-performance-silent-mode-why-did-you-even-buy-a-gaming-laptop-fps-drops mode. Those are the two modes (technically the middle Performance mode is just airplane jet engine mode, same as Turbo mode.)

succinctly tell us about the perforence and appearence about this G15,which give me such a good impression.Thank for your afford!
Thank you for the review!
In Poland this version is about 1250 Euros, so it makes it even a better bargain.
Thanks! :)
For music production though, does 60% sRGB hurt? I know it sounds low, but in reality it's not that huge a difference imho until you get to color critical work.
Hey, I just came by your YT channel and I think that your videos are really helpful and entertaining keep up the awesome work!
Im getting this laptop soon im soo exitet
Great review. I'll definitely be investigating the thermals more before making a purchase decision.
William Doyon Somecompany is going way too far to counter AMD with dirty tactics! I
I frankly just wouldn’t recommend this one because of the vent covers. I removed my covers and the performance improved significantly, but just buy a different laptop without this flaw.
I was waiting to buy this model. Thank you kind miss for reviewing this.

I think I will buy ROG Zephyrus G15 or ROG Zephyrus G14. Which one should I buy?
G15 for sure.
First time watching this channel, I love the review, subscribed.
Hi Nada, I'm really liking the flora & fauna in your house!
@@TechTesters Thanks for reply and keep up the great work! I'll be waiting for 'em reviews!
@ageofbogyo That's so cool! I wish I could do that.
