This guy is really cool, I really like this no nonsense approach tempered with with his joy of recording with a little irreverence and techy quirks - no fun missing there!
The Colour and The Shape is one of my favorite records, and THE best Foo Fighters record by a long shot. Just sounds amazing. Fishbone -- one of my favorite bands ever,...nice.
Rewatching this one -- Bradley is just a great dude,...the stories, the sharing of info,....thanks again Warren. Looking forward to you being able to interview people in this fashion again. Hopefully soon. Take care.
Warren, I thought I couldn't like you anymore, then you started talking about Recovering the Satellites and now I like you even more. What an amazing record! And to hear the details about it from Bradley Cook... So good!
Humble and talented, what a great combination. Also liked to hear about these mics. And I got finally happy, when you both mentioned "Echo and the bunnymen". Thanks!
Thanks Bradley and Warren! Interesting, 😊 Just checked the liner notes on my cassette of Recovering The Satellites. I remember buying that... Man my phone kind of blows my mind. I believe I was still low tech woman, when I bought that, always carrying a roll of quarters leaving the house. My phone just read those teeny tiny liner notes. Boom. Just amazed.
Ok I have a question for Bradley! Have you ever seen or tried better dynamic m818 mics? I have a pair here that are in mint condition (I got them for £25 on eBay!) They look like mini sennheiser 421's. I believe they were designed for tape recorders. Personally I love them on guitar amps, toms and snare.
BBC Faders going "wrong" way - my story: I heard in one documentary (can't remember which at this moment) that engineers were accidentally moving faders with their shirt sleeves and jacket sleeves. That was the dressing "fashion" those days. So, in order NOT to move fader in the "wrong" way somebody came to an idea to push the gain (volume) up is towards the eng. and to push the volume down was the other way around. Anyway, that is what I heard and remember. Warren, great video BTW. Again! I just love these tours and pros sharing their stories with a public! Warmest regards from cold Zagreb! Krešo ;-)
@@Kevin-vq6rv Probably. Really couldn't say. But I am always amazed how many tiny things and different steps were there during polishing tools which look as they are today.
I have a question Warren, please ask Bradley what is more important when capturing guitar tones like the heavier ones we hear on TCATS. Obviously its partly the guitar/amp/player doing the work but capturing the sound is it more the microphone doing the work and the mic pre is amplifying the signal or is part of the sound driving the mic pre to add more harmonics to an already overdriven/distorted amp? The reason I ask is sometimes on these albums I can't tell if the low to low mids have been EQ'd out and the mid to upper mids have been EQ'd in or they are driving preamps/compressors that are known for their mid range bump when pushed. I know what that sounds like when I do this in my studio, but curious how much is intentional on the part of the engineer. Thank you and have a marvelous day!
I think we used a 57/87 on the gtr cabs- capsules aligned for happy phase. 1084 neve pres. Prob just light eq. Didn't really push the pres. No compression in the recording of it. Its amp/player tone faithfully captured. There was certainly ssl eq and compression applied in the mix.
Wonderful hearing all these stories of great musicians. Thank you so much for the interview Bradley and Warren. "always something to learn" brilliant!! BTW Eric, the EV666s have doubled in price since this interview. So what's the daily rate on rental ? HA HA
Great content once again. Thinking about the faders coming towards you, and maybe a design thought that you would be less likely to knock them once set. Also if you did you would knock the levels down in amplitude so less likely to damage equipment or ears 😎. Barefoot seems a great place with a fantastic set of people. Love the cable, seen it in one of Eric V's videos. Great thought how do we take that noise and make use of it in a positive way. Eric's the man buying those mic's you'll have to do some tracks for the academy 😉.
if i have an instrumental with an open 16 bar verse ..is it possible that i can record one twelve bar verse & have my engineer cut the remaining four bars in that section to make a clean transition back into the chorus?
@@bradleycook5747 had no idea you were involved with that album. It's an absolute masterpiece in all aspects. One of my favorites of all time. Kudos to you for for doing such an excellent job. It's no wonder you've been so successful.
Ok, let me see... DG rig was Gibson RD standard, fender tone master, boogie cab. Pat used his Mosrite to Kurt Cobains live rig. I think it was a crown amp to a Marshall cab. We kept blowing speakers, but it sounded so good..
So a couple of Updates that I just want to Mention on this Video. (1. The Grandmaster Recording Studio is now being Turned into an Italian Restaurant (2. Artemesia where the Counting Crows Recorded their Second Abum is now a Museum, and (3. The Mayfair Market is now called Gelson's Market.
Eric, you really bought an EV(IL)666 for the same price as a decent overhead mic stand? Wow! I just checked on Reverb and they sell one for 442€... Nice catch man, really!
