I´m really excited about today´s video: I´m interviewing Grammy winning Producer and Mixing Engineer Cameron Webb.
Cameron has been the producer and mixer for Motörhead for many years, until the tragic death of lead-singer Lemmy last year.
He tells us about key moments in his career and the story of how he first met Motörhead: He almost blew his chance of working with them! Fortunately he got the gig and went on to build a long-lasting relationship with the band.
Cameron shares very cool inside information about the Motörhead, their approach to recording, making music and life in general.
We take an extensive tour of his studio, talk about guitar recording techniques, classic amps and Cameron walks us through his beautiful equipment. Every one of his devices has a story of why he picked it up, and he shares his favourite uses for several pieces of analogue gear.
We had an amazing time: there are a lot of very interesting and funny insider stories, you´ll be able to learn from Cameron´s experience and gain plenty of new insights to recording, production and mixing.
Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.

The series 80 and 80b make things sound better just running in the line input. The mic pres really make me smile. You can really hear the low shelf eq on the kick on appetite for destruction. It's very colored and distinctive.

This was such a fantastic watch. Cameron was so into talking about his gear, how it came about, and being a punk rock fan was rad to hear about bands I love leaving their gear at the studio etc. So bloody good! Cool hearing the Pantera kick drum sample / delay / tape head trick! Oh and also, it was a Dimebag pedal! 10/10 👌👌👌

Being creative involves finding a balance between letting go while at the same time holding it all together so we actually get somewhere worth going. Imagine heading into the studio with solid ideas and both these guys are there to bring out your best. Cameron's comment, "Be creative do stupid stuff . . . " speaks to the need of letting our personality come through regardless of what gear we have or don't have.

I recently worked on an album doing string and key arrangements with some cats and I was bugging them to let me mix the album. They said they had a guy. His name is Cameron Webb, Im like, "never heard of him let me try". So they send me a mix back that he did and Im like "wow, ok, good on you guys, this guy has skills" and then a few weeks later I run into this interview and I was so stoked to see it and find out more about Cameron Webb. What a cool guy and definitely a GREAT mixer and producer. Thanks for this!

Just saw this. I think Cameron is great, both as producer and humble guy, and love that he and Motorhead got on so great and made so many great albums (I loved Inferno and Motorizer the best). Anyone or anything that made Lemmy happy is great by me. But as an admittedly non-objective Motorhead fan, I quibble with the 90's comments at 7:05. Bastards, Sacrifice and Overnight Sensation were from the 90's. Lemmy said Sacrifice was his favorite on many occasions. Lots of fans think Bastards is their best or one of. I'm not a producer, but Bastards SOUNDS great too. So the 90's were very uneven, but far from all bad. Mikky D rejuvenated them for awhile, kind of like Cameron did later. Thanks for the video, it's really wonderful. I wish Cameron would write an appendix for "Motorhead In the Studio", covering last 3 or 4 albums not in first edition.

Cameron’s great. I’m 40 now. My old band had him produce our records. I was 19 then. I’ve also recorded at maple in my late 20’s. Great producer. We butted heads a couple times. But he was always there for me when I needed a friend to talk to.

Clarifying, to give credit where it is due. That record in my late 20,s was produced by Sergio Chavez at Cameron’s studio. Sergio doesn’t get enough credit for the work he does with Cameron. Miss those guys.

Warren eludes to the Left and Right Eventide thing. Eventide classic setting Left and right 1.01 and 99. One side slightly sharp and the other side slightly flat. It does have a random quality to it. You've heard it on tons of stuff from the 70's and early 80's. Nice job Warren!

I listened to the motorhead Bad magic album, 2015 and it made me like the band for like the first time! Seriously awesome work Cameron did, its pushed to the limit still sounding great and substantial, noth thrashy at all. Many modern rock album sound vibe-less but not this, its like somebody is finnaly standing on the old rockalbums shoulders and actually taking it to new heights!

I am seeing that the really good professional videos made by people like you who really know what they are talking about get almost no negative feedback. There is always criticism that could be expressed, but when there is so much good stuff, one doesn't care much about the bad. I, for one appreciate what you do. I wish there were more like you out there. The problem is that there are too many wannabe experts that flood youtube with stupid stuff to make a few bucks or to boost their egos. It's incredible how many followers many of those know nothing people get while they blab about things they know nothing about.i think many of those followers feel better listening to people who know as little as they do, It's bizarre. Anyway that was my philosophical rant of the week. Thanks again for all the cool shit that you do, or is it cool shite. I like the word shite much better than shit, for some reason.

Warren, great vid again mate as always, I don't know if you remember but I have a great Jeff Beck story for you ! as you know way back a few years I had a time drumming and recording with Jeff' in East Sussex before I moved to the US. His original amp was a death trap at the time, only because the power lead had a UK pug at each end and the amp had a standard UK wall socket mounted at the back. So if he or anyone had plugged the lead in the wall/power first and put his/her hand on the end going into the amp it would have been super hot! My mate at Pilot Sound studio sorted it out after years of it being over looked. Then Marshall made him some new amps for the tours at that time, but the only amp that lasted was his original. I love guitar stories!

The Neve line amp he was referring to (I believe) is the 1272. It's not really a cross between a 1073 and a 1081 because those pres are actually the same pre, known as the 1290 (only the EQ modules differ between the 1073 and 1081). The 1272 has two of the three stages used in the 1290, since less gain is needed. Some are modded to work as pres though. Rupert's reply when asked if he thought people should mod the 1272 as a mic pre: 'why not? It's all the same stuff in there'. "

On another note isnt that distortion+ brand MXR not MXA?
    Keep up the good work!

Brilliant! Warren - I think I'm about the same age as you. Motorhead/Girlschool on TOTP in Feb 1981 blew my frigging brain out. "Please Don't Touch" with Lemmy in a white tuxedo.... amazing. "Ace of Spades" is my Desert Island Disc - it'll frighten the sharks off when I go swimming. And Ace of Spades isn't even the best song on the album. What is though? That's the question. Love Me Like A Reptile? Shoot You In The Back? Live To Win? Bite The Bullet? Finally - agreed, Wurzel (RIP) is one of the new guys...

    • @MrOblimey
      @MrOblimey 7 лет назад +1

Also... 1hr 40min: Black Sabbath chat, Laney amp. Oh yes! Literally my favourite band for 37 years, and Paranoid/Heaven & Hell my 2 faves. But ohhhh... the terrible early-mid 1980's struggle of trying to like Born Again, and Seventh Star. Basically all the Ozzy albums except the last 2, and the first 2 Ronnie albums, are utter classics. Everything else - for completists only.
Never watched an hour and a half of anything on RUclips before so you must be doing something right.

Hi MrOblimey! Yes, agreed 100&! Ace Of Spades, the album is a Masterpiece! When Cameron starting making Motorhead albums they returned to what I love about them! He nailed there sensibility perfectly! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
