Late 90's.......We were loaded into a van at the Apogee Factory and were driving through the hills...... Arrived at a House and as we approached the Door Opened and there was Bob Clearmountain standing before us. I'll never forget that day he is a truly humble and giving person. After the stories of how he got the board in there and the usual Apogee Stuff we were invited to venture into the reverb chamber ect ect. The vibe in that studio was a dream for me.
Bob says that the first recording that the did in this room was "Streets of Philadelphia" ,by Bruce Springsteen. As per many of Bob's recordings, this one is pure audiophile (for rock/pop recordings). Thanks, Bob !
I love seeing Bob interviewed - as a recording hobbyist and hope-to-be retiree within the next year or so, nothing would make me happier than to apprentice with him over the next 10 years. How very much he could teach a person willing to learn.
Bobs work speaks for itself . A master . I’m amazed he opened up to the RUclips world and has been sharing some of his methods with the world. Thank you Bob! Thank you Sweetwater
Bob = Legend !!! 😊🎶 And Mitch, you’re just awesome. I really appreciate that you are the perfect combination of professionalism mixed in with youthful enthusiasm !!! You truly enjoy what you do… and it shows. Plus you’re always right there as far as knowledge of gear, past and present !!!!! Cheers from Santa Barbara, Steve
I love seeing that he doesn't have the newest of the new computers, converters, clocks and all. There is so much debate on those things, that it gets annoying. A lot of inspiration comes from this guy.
In the UK most of our basements don't have all that light flooding in, what a great studio and outdoor space. Got to love the British telephone booth and royal mail post box minatures 🙂
Bob Clearmountain is my hero. I mean, I just love watching and listening to him talk music and mixing. He just seems so down-to-earth and approachable. Props to Mitch too!
👍 Awesome Studio Tour and cozy Audio conversation in this sunny Area with specialist Pro Bob Clearmountain. from Brussels. Thanks SweetWater in Fort Wayne, is it right Director Mitch Gallagher.
I love the 'Don't get me started!'...when discussing the SSL workflow compared to ITB. Great interview! They didn't talk about drum compression...other than the 1178 on snare, I think.
I love those studio tour. Your conversation with Bob is so informative and reminds me some Pensado's Place episode. Please keep doing those. Mitch is just as good educator as Dave in my opinion. Good job on that as usual.👍
If I could, I would ask him about his speaker choice, he definitely can chose anything but why Dynaudios and Yamaha MSPs? Especially after being one of the first to use NS-10s for mixing. Love you Bob, always feels calm hearing you speak!
I hope those two got to hang for a bit longer after the good bye. It seemed like Bob was willing to carry on the convo for however long Mitch wanted. Great info there on his compressor views.
I feel like this has become Walter’s studio & Bob just owns & operates it lol. I was cracking up when the ears popped up half way into the video lol. Walter must have been inspecting the sweet water camera setup in “his” studio 😂
Whenever I look at a recording studio, I associate all these buttons with a flight into space, how can I manage it. Me in a space ship. The mysticism of mixing music. I am full of admiration for all sound engineers. Regards.
My home studio, with a 72 input SSL. He says that so casually. This is a beautiful studio. I just dream of having a minor amount of the fantastic gear that Bob has. Thanks for this video. It's killer! Bob is one of the nicest people on the planet. He makes me happy that I have a small home studio. Now, where would I put that big mixer? Hmmm!
Dirty little secret. When Andrew Masters did the studio tour of Clearmountain's main studio at Apogee, Bob didn't even have his own Clearmountains Domain plugin installed on the computer lol. He doesn't really use it.
This home recording studio is also suitable for a state-of-the-art recording studio in a commercial building. The floor space is usually larger than a home studio, even in a mansion. I am still interested in the skill of sound reproduction. I hoped to see the inside of a recording studio to know the sounds there as compared to a radio station, or high-fidelity components system. The "Mix This" studio looks boss! Bob Clearmountain, I hope you will keep your Solid State Logic console.
Great interview guys. I haven`t the foggiest idea what Bob is talking about but the guy is a dude. If you look at your album collection it would surprise you how many of them Bob worked on
He should invest in better monitor loudspeakers, because the ones he is using, I would not touch with a barge pole, as they all have very average or worse than average sound quality, not having high resolution, transparency, or good timing ability, etc, etc.
wine cellars are usually bellow grade, bub. get real. i thought you were going to reveal an actual 20'x50' field stone echo chamber like i have. ba ba ba ba ba boring
The whole big studio with the big board and all that outboard gear is History. Those days are over. I can achieve all that with my laptop and a cheap Focusrite Scarlett. It's quite sad really.

Who doesn't love Bob! Cool getting to see a little bit more of his space like his machine room than I've seen in prior tours. Good stuff!

What a great treat to be taken inside his world..A very humble cat for all that he has done
Well, he has to be humble, because the other cat (Walter) is the boss. 😉

I prefer Bob Clearmountain's opinion over many others. I have followed him since the Hall & Oates Albums.
Crowded House is where I first learned Bob's name. His mixing on Woodface and Temple of Low Men is just fantastic
Loved the B-roll footage of Walter 😊😆
Atmos SSL compressor, if you dont have the tools you need.. create them! love it
Great interview! Thanks for the altered state mention, Bob, and great seeing you at NAMM!

During the machine/chamber room section I just had to smile... thank goodness for the forward march of technology.
Bob is the BEST.
I have heard his name most of my life. This was great to see what a cool guy he is. Hi Walter.
the scale of the ceiling diffuser is super cool
What a great guy!...
Love walter!! 🐱🖤🖤

Mitch always asks great questions😎 great interview
Love listening to Bob . Guy is humble to the point of somewhat comical
I visited this studio in 1996. Cool place.
Smoke’n!! 🤛🤓
Great to see Jonatha Brooke's albums getting a mention....Steady Pull is still a favourite listen in 5.1. Bob is always a huge source of inspiration.

Funk Logic DD301 - Best in the biz!
I get the feeling Bob wasn’t ready for the interview to end😂
Good Faders
And the middle speaker placement 😆
This guy get's "air" like no other IMO.
Whenever I look at a recording studio, I associate all these buttons with a flight into space, how can I manage it. Me in a space ship. The mysticism of mixing music. I am full of admiration for all sound engineers. Regards.
Cat ear at 15:01
He built this studio in ‘95. 3 years earlier he was working with a Fostex X15 and an Alexis midiverb!
The sting Rig may have been set up by Nate Kunkel.
10:37 😄
So does Walter get his 2 whiskers say in the final mix?

I wonder how many sessions Walter the cat has sat in on? I'd bet he's witnessed some great sessions!
Please upgrade the clock.

hi walter :)
And when it comes to 'tracks vs stems' defer to his Bobness.
"They always showed up about dinner time..." 😅
Exile on main street, nuff said.....
Walter!
no matter big stuff if in 2:37 of street of philadelphia you dont use an antipop.
The cat appearance is the best part
The world would be much sader without Bob. I wish there was a best of BC CD.
I have a pretty big basement, hmmmmm....
Great interview guys. I haven`t the foggiest idea what Bob is talking about but the guy is a dude. If you look at your album collection it would surprise you how many of them Bob worked on
Great video, although it makes me feel ignorant all over again.
MONEY
Reckless!
If those are echo chambers im a monkeys uncle! Haw! Looks like my wife’s shoe closet!
if anyone can make a small room like that sound like an echo chamber, he could
not a bad little home studio, i suppose , lol
Dire Straits
that is a home studio?😂
Huh. I thought it would have been more impressive.
He should invest in better monitor loudspeakers, because the ones he is using, I would not touch with a barge pole, as they all have very average or worse than average sound quality, not having high resolution, transparency, or good timing ability, etc, etc.
Says the guy who never made a record.
I hope this is a bit

Cool! Please tell us what multiplatinum albums you have produced or mixed?
Have you ever worked with class A electronics?
So could Bob
I doubt it.Have you ever used class A electronics.
You should be a stand-up comedians!
