Which song would YOU love to hear about? We'll see what we can do next!
We're talking this album or literaly any song ever cuz you're some wizard that can arrage anything?
Ok, if not Alice Cooper, maybe Supertramp's Long Way Home?
Can we get anything about Fleetwood Mac ? The way they came together. And recorded is interesting.
@@lahattec I agree that's an excellent track. The lp version anyway with the harmonica at the end. Heck, anything off Breakfast in America. The production at EMI was 1st rate on that record!!
David Bottrill: Tool - Lateralus. Your pick
Hearing the isolated guitars is just unbelievable. They are so crisp and soulful.
That's my dream guitar tone. It's so balanced, so clear, and so powerful.
This channel is criminally underrated, this should have millions of views!
You’re very kind
+Chris Broxton. Couldn't agree with you more!
I remember coming home from school, listening to this song and running around the forest temple on zelda: ocarina of time for n64! great tune
Would personally love to see a video for Siamese Dream or Melancholy by the Smashing Pumpkins. Either album to me is one of the best sounding rock records all time. Would love a breakdown of any of those songs from either of those two albums.
What a truly marvellous idea Derrick! You Rock!!
Derrick Lugo great idea 💡
Well this would be at the top of my list for sure.
yes anything 90'a alt rock, Toad the wet sprocket?
@@Producelikeapro Toad the wet sprocket?
You should ask Dave to be in on one of these so we can get his story. He is a great story teller.
thegreatcerebral yes, that would be amazing!
@@Producelikeapro How about a rap-rock cover of My Hero? That drum and bass are so powerful.
Omg omg omg, content is just crazy good at the moment! Thank you so much for these inside views!
Aw shucks thanks ever so much Chris!!
IKR excellent content, Warren is a great teacher in producing also.
Thanks ever so much@@8cspohn!! You Rock!!
Chris Wacker yea. This channel is on fire with these videos coupled with warrens side burns.
This is so great,....these "Inside the Song" vids are like pron for recording nerds.
Thanks Billy! You Rock!
The best category
🤣
What's pron? Some kind of recording nerds' slang?
@@Module79L Swap the placement of the "R" and "O".
This is absolutely incredible. I'd love to hear the full album broken down. I'm a drummer but when those guitars came in......HOLY SHIT!
The dude straight up said Dave told him that My Hero was about Kurt Cobain that’s pretty gnarly
@Dude Sweet I'm going to assume your comment is sarcastic. clearly you just don't get it
I literally cried hearing those guitars soloed. Beautiful tones. The arrangement is insane as well. I mean it’s not like I haven’t heard it before, but it still is an incredible emotional experience
Bradley's grin at 7:05 when you get both whole drum sets cookin'! Priceless!
Yes! Truly amazing!!
One of the few channels that I can give a "like" to before I even watch the video.
Thanks ever so much my friend!!
This is wild! My friend Chad was an assistant engineer at Grandmaster in the early 00's and he's still friends with Bradley. Alan Dickson was nice enough to let me keep my drums there on the stage for awhile. John Stanier even borrowed (and broke) my kick drum pedal while recording a last-minute track for Tomahawk's "Mit Gas." So if you visited Grandmaster between 2002-2004, my white Mapex P-Series was on that stage in the garage. Memories! Great video!
Otto: Y'know those drums that are like...... DOUBLE DRUMS!?!?!?? Y'know?
Yes!! Insane Drums!!
@@Producelikeapro When you were saying double drums I was thinking, surely just adding in extra beats or extra cymbal hits right? No one can do a full double take pre-DAW days on drums without it sounding terrible. But no. Fucking Dave Grohl ladies and gentlemen haha, what a player. Ridiculous!
As a FOO FIGHTERS fan I should say: THANKS WE LOVE YOU WARREN
Thanks ever so much my friend!!
Please never stop making these! Amazing content
Proutt thanks ever so much my friend!
There’s nothing better than hearing subtle touches in the isolated tracks that totally add to the song. Like the super high, barely audible octave on the verse riff and the ebow thing in the chorus
Exactly - I'm guessing it's Pat playing a highly distorted guitar through an octave pedal to get that background pling-sound during the verse riff?
One of my fav FF song. I never knew it was double tracked drums. Amazing.
I know! Amazing!!
These inside the song videos are amazing. I could listen to you two talking for a week straight. Gonna put the album on the spinner now. Thank you :-)
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!!
Wait wut... Dave always denied it was about Kurt. Interesting.
Anymore that can be shared about that?
It probably is about Kurt, but Dave just didn't want to talk about it cuz it's a sensitive topic. Understandable, really.
Bradley's eyes light up when Dave's vox come in . very cool . can't wait to see more!
RUclips is good sometimes! Videos like this are such a dream come true for me, thanks so much for making them
Thanks ever so much!! Bradley is very generous with his time and talents and of course, wow! The song, the performances!! All incredible!
I could die a happy man if you could get Nigel Godrich in to talk about Pyramid Song! ...or any song post the Bends...
Yes! Incredible!!
Hearing him say it's about Kurt . I think we all figured that. Brilliant song. Fukking brilliant
Can't wait for the Monkey Wrench installment of this series!! Maybe you could get Dave to come in and comment on the making of that one?
I love this channel, some of the best insights i've been waiting to hear all my life. Audioslave would be interesting. Radiohead too. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks ever so much Sargie!! I really appreciate it!
@@Producelikeapro Audioslave or Rage would be increedddible!!!!!!!!
That would be incredible indeed Rick!!
Paranoid Android would be so cool. That song is so interesting from a production POV, so many cool parts in that song
My day is always made when I see the notification that you put up a new video, I love this series so much. So much detailed information, really fascinating
Thanks ever so much Anthony for your kind words!!
This song was extremely important to me being into music, even including 'my hero' into user names for video games as a kid. Absolutely legendary content for me.
I could watch these all day. Thanks!
So cool hearing how my favorite song growing up was constructed. Big thank you to Bradley.
"Back and Forth" on Netflix about this period of the Foo's is really interesting...
Pat was about to quit, and Nate was asked to play live, but Dave was gonna be on the tracks, (was a no-go) soon enter Mr Hawkins.
One of my favorite songs by these guys, especially the guitars, as you pointed out ...Thanks again Warren!
Steve A thanks ever so much my friend! I’m so glad to be able to help! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Steve A I presume you meant William. Nate is the bass player ;)
That phase trick, with starting on inverted and then flip it back just made my day a whole lot better! Thank you for that! :D
Hi Michael Larsen that’s wonderful to hear!!
Now that I listen for the eBow at the end of the chorus, I can't unhear it!
I never noticed it - so strange!
I love how Bradley asked “Where is that at?” Lol.
Love it! I really enjoy listening to how the guitars were built and panned....Is it common to put a rhythm guitar up the middle?
Thanks ever so much Steve! Yes, Bradley is amazing! I learned so much!!
I was more excited to see this than Game of Thrones
Hufsteter Medina aw shocks! I’ve never watched Game of Thrones! Haha
@@Producelikeapro Me either. LOL
I'm going to eat all the fookin' chickens you got" - The Hound
So much low end on the guitars. So cool.
Yes, indeed Timmy!!
This song is a beast. drum and guitar tracks are dynamite, and the vocals are perfect. Tremendous song. This and Everlong the best Foo Fighters.
Your content is insane! Thank you so much for these!! You turned a mundane Monday into an awesome Monday!
Hi Jason Bone was shucks thanks ever so much my friend!!
Been on a dave grohl kick all day today and yesterday, then, BAM! This drops. Love it!
Yea, I just came from the "Dave Grohl “My Hero” on the Howard Stern Show in 1999" video where Dave says it's not about Kurt...
It is probably about ordinary people of which Kurt was ultimately one as well. He might not have wanted to speak about Kurt so just avoided the topic.
Another gem ! Had no idea that while I was at MI grandmaster was around the corner!
2 drum kits! No wonder they have that huge sound!!!!
Warren, just when I think you’ve hit it out of the park with your content, you do it again........ and again! Thank you so much !!. This is so important fo the art to have these processes documented
Man this album was the soundtrack to my early adulthood in the late 90s, Johnny Parks is a dope tune. Cheers for these insights!
this is Masterclass level material Warren, great stuff, thank you man!
Thanks ever so much my friend!!
Coming back to the catalog of videos on this channel has been a pleasure. 2 years later.
TWO drum kits!!
I know!!! A M A Z I N G !!!
It was a common practice of bigband-era jazz. Chicago does it on "25 or 6 to 4," and Steely Dan did it on the tune that pays homage to Charlie Parker, "Parker's Band." I never knew it was used in more modern rock tunes like this, though. Way cool! It just goes to show there are no boundaries for creativity.
So awesome. I love it. Thank you Bradley and Warren!
That bass is everything.
This guy might not have any eyebrows but damn he sure knows his stuff!
And thank you for this channel, you seem like a cool down to earth dude 😊
Georg Albert Ruthenberg, aka Pat Smear. Our quiet " hero". Who would have thought ....
Pure gold, thank you for this, I miss the 90's....
Brilliant, just brilliant. So interesting & fun to watch.
The guitars are HUGE!
YES!! HUGE!!
It just makes sense to go inside this track, it's arguably one of their best. Can't wait to analyze this video. I'm an active recording engineer and totally use these videos for inspiration and love to watch a long while I'm mixing and put different tricks into practice in real time. Couldn't say more about how awesome these videos are.
Love those drums!!!
Wow that ebow in the chorus... mind blown
those videos are amazing, so INSPIRING OMG thank you so much for this !
This stuff is absolute gold! It's so awesome to see and learn about the songs in depth. I've already learned so much and am able to put it in my own music production as well in my own band. We're called First Time Flyer. Hope you dissect one of our songs one day. :)
Thanks ever so much Riley! I wish you all the best in your career my friend!!
I’ve always liked that song but those drum sounds so huge and the guitars sound so nice, it’s giving me a deeper appreciation for it , thanks Warren🤙
Wonderful video AGAIN!!! Bradley, dude, you are so awesome for doing these videos with Warren and allowing us to peek behind the curtain on your productions. My deepest appreciation to you both. I am learning so much, its awesome. Thank you guys! 👍
Thanks ever so much Matt!! You Rock my friend!!
This is PURE GOLD. Thank you so much
Another awesome breakdown! Thanks Warren and thank you Bradley!
I know it’s a small point in the video, but Dave Grohl has said multiple times that My Hero is not about Kurt Cobain, it’s genuinely about ordinary people, a great example of him saying this is on the Howard Stern show in ‘99
I noticed that too, but I don't see why Bradley Cook would lie, like if Grohl told him that you know? I believe Grohl just really didn't want to talk about Cobain with anyone, which is fair enough.
did not know the song was about Kurt.... (exploding head) not sure how I never put that together. Double drums in the whole song with a garage take, freaking genius
MikeyLPSessions the double drums are amazing aren’t they?!
Another great interview with Bradley, thank you for doing these. Wonderful hearing how these songs are arranged.
I don't think people understand, or I hope they do, how amazing it is to get this level of insight and expertise from these gentlemen. I am just pumped to hear their stories and explanations of how it was done... love the foo fighters and I love playing guitar
Not sure what kinda pitch shifting pedals were around in the 90s, but I think that lead part definitely had a pitch shift pedal (Whammy?) with an octave setting on it. Never noticed that before and I've heard this song so many times!
Thank you guys once again for this. Really cool to hear this one broken down. Didn't even think about the use of an Ebow.
I know! Amazing!!
One of the best drum sounds ever!
I appreciate that Bradley doesn't talk over the isolated tracks. I've enjoyed the other guests in this series, but there's a tendency to interrupt before even 10 seconds of the track has been played.
This series is the best thing on the internet as of date!!!!!!
I'm loving this Warren! Such great stories and great to hear the recordings!
Thanks ever so much my friend!
my body is ready! thank you!
This is one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums! The story behind the song makes it even more special. (Sound- and otherwise) :) thanks!
amazing ,how, showing and analyzing a session like this will help us all in such an extent to be more natural and less "perfect" . For me as a producer this video teach me so much and tx for that...hummm the double drums is just insane idea, gold tips
Aw shucks thanks ever so much Marcos!! You Rock!!
This is GOLD. Thank you!!
This channel reminds me of vh1 classic albums and we need as many of these possible. This type of insight is super valuable. Especially to preserve history and to educate the next generation.
Wow! Thanks ever so much Chad!
@@Producelikeapro Thank you for the content! I find stuff like this to be endlessly fascinating and inspiring. Keep it up.
My fav FooFighters song. Great insight on recording this.
every track sounds so awesomely good, damn
So how was the panning of his vocals done? They blend so well with everything.
Powerful song!
Agreed John!!
It would be marvelous if you could arrange to have Roy Thomas Baker or Nigel Godrich in for a conversation. They've worked on a few amazing albums. - chaz
I agree! That would be amazing!!
Love these videos. Told a lot of my musician/engineer friends about them.
Would be awesome to watch an episode for any Elliott Smith song.
Marvellous idea!
the double drums blew my fucking mind
This was truly amazing to watch, thank you so much Warren!
Thanks ever so much my friend!
Super nice to see that kind of content! Everlong was amazing, this one as well... For instance, I am always feeling that I use to much reverb on vocals, but it isn't necessarily bad thing while listening at Dave's vocals... pretty huge!
Bradley is da man! Love these inside scoops and stories!
Yes, he is Eric!!
This guy is great! The absolute best advice ever on how to dial in the Phase! Thank you both!
That’s just so cool:) Nothing Left to Lose was one of my first foo fighters albums I owned as a kid. Would love to hear Stacked Actors or Generator.
These are sooo good!
Thanks ever so much!
Very, VERY inspiring!! (on so many levels)
Thank you Bradley and Warren! ☺️
Hi Audrey Sims Thanks ever so much!
Strange. I thought Dave Grohl said multiple times that this song was not about Kurt Cobain.
That's just for the public. It's a very personal song to Dave.
fuck Dave, why would you deny it all the time?
Alexandre Martini Dave is not denying it. The producer is lying, but it’s okay. My Hero is a song about ordinary people.
BoxOfCurryos I don’t see any reason why Bradley would be lying. From what I can tell, Dave is tired of people asking him if all his songs are about Kurt so he just denies it at this point, and who can really blame him?
@@User-jk8wq I too wouldn't want to talk about my relationship with my friend who died
Great insight, that's really cool that their are two drum tracks on it, mixed so well.
I think this is my favourite Album by the Foo fighters. Good memories. I'm late to find these videos but really enjoying them. Thanks for doing them.
Let me show just how old I am.....tho not a specific song suggesting, founding member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils (If you wanna get to heaven & Jackie Blue (written by Lee) "Larry Michael Lee" use to produce bands like Alabama ,Juice Newton , K.T. Oslin and others....He lives in Springfield Mo., Time to go find my walking cane...smile.....once again thank you for these videos, really enjoy them....Mike
I am four years late, but so what. This sounds PHENOMENAL!!🥰🥰😍😍😍
You two are great together. Keep on geeking on n we’ll keep on watching 🤤
Amazing! Thank you Warren for this great video. 1st Everlong, now this!
Thanks ever so much my friend!
