I like this one a lot to be honest. And while it’s a bit different I like that you could open it one handed with your pocket if need be. Pretty neat knife and great video thanks for sharing.
Thanks Michale! I should have shown everyone how sharp it is, I've been using it around the house for the past 24hrs. & it definitely has a razor's edge, I forgot to show how thin the blade stock is too, super thin! It's a very limited use knife, but it slices & dices like a razor knife with D2 should!😂
I've never owned an easy open, so I'm neutral on that one. But I like the looks of the micarta and the shield on this knife. Everyone seems to be really excited about these new rough ryders! Thanks for giving us a look, my friend!
This is probably the only one the 3 (that just came out) that I'm buying. I've heard lots of people went after all 3, but this one really caught my eye, mainly by looks alone. Not sure it's a feasible everyday user.
This is a recreation of a razor designed for a one-armed man, in particular soldiers returning from action minus an arm. It is opened by hooking the cutout in the blade around a suitable fixed object which is used for leverage. But let's mention the elephant in the room: tubular container, waxed paper, upgraded steel, reduced billboarding, slimmer profile, exemplary build quality - who on earth could SMKW be having a pop at?
Yes David! a *re-creation* is the best description of these "one arm" razor knives. This isn't meant to snag open, but it can be done if you try hard enough. It's more Show than Go. lol It does look like SMKW thinks they may have found a niche market as the "Budget GEC". That's yet to be determined, but I grabbed this one more on looks than anything else, I doubt I'll even use it. This blade style is very limited for what I need in an everyday carry. But, like I said - I think it looks sweet as honey & I'll put it in the collector piece category, which is also my investment category. Don't know what the return will be on it someday, but I'll enjoy it until then.
Rick that is one great looking knife and those scales wow oh yeah I told some of the other guys my wife and I celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary on Monday it’s easy with a good woman.
Wow! Congratulations Larry, I really have high regard for couples that stay together "until death do us part". I'm glad you two are still having fun. That's Awesome 🙏✌️
It looks a good knife with nice tube, waxed paper 'n cloth. I think the idea of a knife you can open with one hand makes a lot more sense to me these days. Can think of many "freaky" situations where you can only use one arm and an opened knife is needed. (eg tight loft or sub floor space and wiring) I also like the lack of blade bill boarding. IfI had one, it'd def be an edc back up. Take care and thanks
This blade is more show than go for one-handed opening Stone. I should have tried to open it with one hand in the video, but it's too smooth to snag anything & the backspring is firm. It definitely is sweet looking though, built well - there is no blade play & the action is smooth. Nice knife, I wouldn't consider it a work knife though - the RR2181 is much better suited for that. I'd call this more of a light duty "Executive" style carry.
I figured they would sell out fast, I wasn't sure if RR will continue to fulfill demand. It's a unique knife that is put together well. I'm sure it will be liked by many! 😊👍
@@jerseyknifeguy6382 Stay cool Pete. Lockdown is gettin' to ya i see. Go sharpen a dozen or so of your oldest knives. lol. That is helping me. I think. Perhaps, or maybe i have already gone mad, how do i know? Hahahahahahahihihihihihiwawawa woof woof!

Hi pete. I know you will love these. At least the 001 and especially the 002. Only thing better than a canoe is a swell belly kayak. Lol. All the best.
I watched your video..sorry about your storage can getting squashed, but at least the knife is in good order. I really like the whittler but when I saw this Blue Denim Micarta Jack, I felt it would be a great compliment to the RR2181 work knife. And they do look great side by side.
Wow, RR is really stepping up its game. It’s a beautiful, well built knife! The design is confusing to me however- why does a one- hand razor need a cut- out? Or a swedge when there is no point? Thanks for the video!
lol😂 Hobie! you bring up some great points. It's more show than go! It's very hard to open one handed - too smooth to snag anything & the backspring is firm. If it was meant to be a true "one arm" bandit, there would be a more aggressive hook/snag & a lighter tension spring. Best to use a pinch grip on this one. As far as that useless swedge, your guess is as good as mine 😆. All in all, I like the way it looks! those covers are done up nicely & with the satin finish backdrop/blade along with that arrowhead shield, it has a unique "executive" styling to it.
@@rustyknifelover4463 😂🤣😂 You dog Rusty! I do like that Whittler. The kayak thingy is pretty cool too I guess. But this is the one I liked right from the get go.
Hello. Looks good but it should be for the price. Have you ordered the other two, I think they look even better than this one but more expensive too. Lol. All the best.
No Rhino, this is the only one I ordered for now. I know alot of people don't like the "razor" aspect of this knife, but I really liked the look of it. It looks great next to the RR2181 in comparison. The razor blade makes it a very limited use knife - but I bought it for it's looks & investment purposes anyway, I have quite a few knives I buy strictly as investments😂
I passed on this one. I like easy open knives but I'm not crazy about that blade shape. I passed on this one and the "Kayak" and went for the Whittler. After seeing this video, I'm still happy with my decision. Knife appears to be quality but I'm still not crazy about that blade shape. How does it work as one hand opener?
Good choice Tobias - the Whittler is one I really like too - I thought this one would be a good compliment to the Black & Blue Micarta work knife. The "one arm" option is more show than go, It is too smooth to snag anything, you more or less have to hook it at an extreme angle to open it in that manner 😂. It has a decent pull (6-7) & is easier to just use two hands with a pinch grip. There is no blade play & fit/finish is top rate. I think the Blue Denim Micarta & Arrowhead shield really hit the mark as well. Good compliment/contrast to the work knife. Beauty & the Beast kinda thing going on.
I have just ordered this; www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001631860189.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.2c5d4c4dSq6Stp from Aliexpress, it looks how I thought this Rough Ryder was going to look before I saw the cut out in the blade. A bit smaller but my kind of knife.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias The only downside to Ali is the wait but apparently they are trying to get the wait time to the US and Europe down to a max of ten days. In theory that means mine should be here Monday, I don't mind the wait though, with mostly free shipping it's worth it.I like a lot of the stuff I have bought from Brother, the quality is there, the 1503 and 1509 lock backs are among my all time favourite modern traditionals.
Wow, it really looks like they've started to surpass Case, it looks like it's almost Böker quality. Soon Case will only have their diehard collectors as customers unless they do something about their dodgy quality. As a Brit it's a shame that there isn't anything coming out of Sheffield that looks close to this quality for anything like a comparable price.
Yeah Tidge, I really hope Case can straighten it out soon..even their "die-hard" supporters are starting to waiver. If Case loses them, things could get pretty grim fast.
No Pete, that's one I've always wanted but haven't gotten around to it yet. (The CV steel) Seen one NIB for $35 once but didn't get it. Kicking myself for that one.
Hopefully they'll do a Spear-point Jack, That has been my blade of choice lately. The Razor knives take a little getting used too. I have 2 Barlows with this style blade that I really enjoy now, (that wasn't always the case).
@@Warthogg1 I would like to see a nice 3" blade or slightly bigger spear point jack from RR, especially with the micarta they are doing now.
